Happy Thursday! Spring Training is winding down and the 2021 Major League Baseball season is right around the corner. Everyone on our team is excited to show you the first extended look at MLB The Show 21. We’ve got so much more to reveal, including a special legends trailer coming out in a few weeks.

Ready up with MLB The Show 21 gameplay details

We at San Diego Studio are very excited for the release of MLB The Show 21, our first PlayStation 5 and first multi-platform (with cross play*) iteration of The Show. We’ve been working on a lot of great new features for all our fans, returning and new. Here are just a few of the new additions to look forward to with MLB The Show 21’s gameplay:

The friendliest Show yet

Learn the ropes so you, too, can make impressive off-the-wall catches and notch up your gameplay. We have added a route to ball indicator to help you in the field, improved the throw accuracy meter to help you show off your cannon, and have built in assists to make jumps and dives more intuitive. New to MLB The Show, Casual mode teaches you all the gameplay mechanics of The Show while letting you hit dingers to your heart’s content.

Two-way player

For the first time in MLB The Show, your Ballplayer can be a two-way player, expanding flexibility in player position options. Enjoy a revamped player progression system that emphasizes adaptability and variety. Finally use your centralized ballplayer in Road to the Show, online in Diamond Dynasty, Programs and Moments.

Animations & stances

You want bat flips? We have bat flips. In fact, we have added over 100 new personalized bat flips, home run swings, and bat tosses. We’ve also got 140 new batting stances, 250 redone batting stances, 160 new pitching animations, 180 redone pitching animations, and more than 1,000 new fielding animations.

Stadium Creator

Fans of MLB The Show have patiently waited for the ability to build their dream ballpark in-game, and we are happy to say that the wait is nearly over. Available on the PlayStation 5 version, MLB The Show 21 gives you the ability to build and customize stadiums with over 1,000 pieces ranging from foul poles, signs, buildings, and much more. The developers have designed specific stadium kits ranging from realistic to fantasy, giving players the ability to create bespoke layouts, dimensions, wall heights, and more while being able to use created stadiums in both Diamond Dynasty and Franchise modes. With an internet connection, the fun doesn’t stop there as players can share, edit and play in stadiums created by fellow MLB The Show community members, too.

This is just the tip of the iceberg, plenty of info to come on Ballplayer, Franchise/March to October, Diamond Dynasty and more…

MLB The Show 21 launches everywhere on April 20, 2021. Pre-Order digitally to receive a Gold Choice pack.

  • Will custom music be back? If so, will it be available on PS4 and PS5?

  • Why is this on game pass day 1?

    • Complete slap in the face to sony customers. They’re gonna pay $70 for the game when the other console gives it away for free? I literally bought a PS3 just to play the Show a long time ago. This game sold me on Playstation. To charge Playstation customers and give it away on Xbox is just an awful PR move.

Kind of ironic that the game that sold me on Playstation may be the game that sells me on buying an Xbox.

    • Because it’s crossplay now, and everything Xbox gets now is free with gamepass, game pass or Xbox must of made a deal to do it like that now. Definitely sucks for us ps5 owners. And ps4

    • Yeah, is a fu…ng mocking to us, a PS game in Gamepass in day one, but for the PS Now users not. Really is a madness. Im one step closer to go to Xbox.

  • Thanks Sony.
So being a loyal PlayStation owner I have had all PlayStation consoles,I own PlayStation 5 now,I was looking forward to mlb the show 21 but having learned I have to pay £69.99 for a Sony developed game and a game pass owner has to pay £1 for gamepass to play this game I can tell you I will not be purchasing this game, totally wrong Sony.I will be looking at getting a series x now.

  • What an anti consumer move yet again by Sony it’s so disappointing it makes me sick to my stomach. I don’t even have any desire to play game but the fact that PlayStation is giving away old games they already gave away many times when Xbox is straight up killing it with games pass makes me realize I made the wrong decision choosing my next gen. Temporarily retiring my PlayStation 5 and switching to Xbox so I can actually enjoy next gen without wastin money on something I can get for free. SONY MUST BE ASHAMED!!!

    • This mlb is cross play everything is getting switched to that. Xbox must of made a deal somehow and most stuff is free now going forward with Xbox game pass. Definitely a huge blow to us ps5 ps4 user’s

  • Wtf is wrong with you Sony ppl?

  • MLB The Show going to Game Pass on day 1, while you ask your PlayStation consumers to shell out $69.99 is making you guys at Sony look like fools. If MLB controls the IP just dump it and move San Diego studio on to new IP you can actually control.

When Sony says “For the Players” I thought they meant for PlayStation players not the competitors players.

  • Can u pls give us back online franchise. As add on if anything pls god I been waiting for that to come back. Pls
