The expressiveness of the game’s lighting, texture, and environment has increased with the PS5 version of the game. New features have also been added, including the ability to switch between “Graphics Mode” that prioritizes high quality 4K graphics (4K compatible display required) and “Performance Mode” that prioritizes smooth action at 60FPS.

The game also includes a Photo Mode where the player can take photos of in-game scenes and save their favorite memories, as well as a new episode that features Yuffie as the main protagonist.

Those who own the physical or digital PS4 version of Final Fantasy VII Remake and want to experience the PS5 enhancements can upgrade to the PS5 version at no extra cost**, and carry over their save data from the PS4 version.*** PS4 players who upgrade will still need to purchase the new episode featuring Yuffie separately. Update: Please note the PS4 version of Final Fantasy VII Remake available to PlayStation Plus members is not eligible for the PS5 digital version upgrade.

  • Why will it cost Japanese players to upgrade when it’s free for everyone else?

    • I think it may be due to changes with Japan’s CERO (Rating system). Used to be only Z rated games required cards on file to be purchased(even free ones). but I think it changed on the backend for 15+ games as well.

For reference 100 yen is about $1

  • I knew they would milk this remake.. I really did.

But even I didn’t see a paid DLC bringing Yuffie to Midgar in the cards.

  • Will Yuffie’s episode be available on PS4 as a DLC?

  • Will PS4 owners get access to the Yuffie episode?

  • I prefer the name Final Fantasy 7 Remake Remastered…

Sunil, can we, PS4 FF7R owners, get the Yuffie episode without having to buy a PS5?

  • will people who upgrade from the PS4 to the PS5 version be able to get the preorder bonus?

    • In the article it says: “Those who own the physical or digital PS4 version of Final Fantasy VII Remake and want to experience the PS5 enhancements can upgrade to the PS5 version at no extra cost, and carry over their save data from the PS4 version.* PS4 players who upgrade will still need to purchase the new episode featuring Yuffie separately.”

I imagine it may be purchased via an internal store of some sort

  • Will Intergrade include all lost DLCs like the pre-order DLCs that is no where to get now which is the Choco Chick summon? Square always offered their pre-order DLCs after launch to be purchased. They didn’t here which is very strange. Please bring back Choco Chick on PS Store again. Thanks.

  • Tbh I’m just surprised Square is offering the upgrade for free. It makes sense to charge for the new content.

    • The Yuffie DLC is PS5-only. They want people who have the PS4 copy to buy the new DLC so they’re giving away the base game upgrade for free.

    • Many games that were available on previous gen are offered a free upgrade to the next gen version, so there’s nothing surprising there.

  • No March ps+ games announcement? It is Thursday and next week Tuesday is March. February is only 28 days, Playstarion.

  • I told myself I can wait with the PS5 until stock stabilize because I got plenty to play on my PS4.
Now I got to get one at the begging of June :)

  • Great PS5 support. FFVII is a phenomenal game and i was impressed with the improvements, but it was rumored as the PS+ game. Why hasn’t the lineup been announced? My guess is that a deal was being worked on and fell through last second. This is unfortunate and could lead to backup games or worse, filth like we see on Games With Gold.

  • I’m buying this masterpiece again!

  • I have a question in the article it mentions the following: “Those who own the physical or digital PS4 version of Final Fantasy VII Remake and want to experience the PS5 enhancements can upgrade to the PS5 version at no extra cost, and carry over their save data from the PS4 version.* PS4 players who upgrade will still need to purchase the new episode featuring Yuffie separately.”

Is there a confirmed price for this episode for those that upgrade, also will those the had the digital deluxe version of remake on ps4 get the same on PS5 when upgrading sans the Intergrade content?

  • So I have a question will the upgrade be for the ps4 too

  • Should come with a namingway card so you can fix the crap version of a certain characters name… 😂

  • Hi, May i know when you mention PS4 save can be carried to PS5 version of the game, how do we do that? Since Square doesn’t seem to provide us such option in FF7 Remake, unlike what Ubisoft did to AC: Valhalla saves.

    • My best guess would be saving your progress through PS Plus’ cloud and restore it on the PS5 version.
If you don’t have PS Plus, perhaps when the PS5 version arrives, you can opt for the month free trial.

  • Where is the disc available? I just see it on squares site with that God awful shipping charge that no one else charges.

I appreciate the free upgrade for my first class edition, but id also appreciate a little more on getting a single disc install of my favorite ps4 game on ps5. I also feel like yuffie content should have been on disc, defeats the point to download anything.

Any trophy support? Does this grant a second platinum?

Thanks for remastering the game, been waiting for this.

  • I hear rumours this game is gonna be PS PLUS game for March 2021
i hope rumours are true!! Who don’t want to have this masterpiece game in collection .-.

    • They aren’t.

    • Sorry, are you saying FF7R is a masterpiece? Even if you enjoyed it, if this is what passes as quality these days the bar is low. So many issues with it both technically and from a creative standpoint. Wonder if all those crappy low res assets will be upgraded for the PS5 version, or all the bits where you squeeze round debris to hide load times will be skippable.

  • Wasn’t planning on replaying until close to the release of part 2. Already finished it twice in a row (and I love how different the experience was the second time on harder difficulty, had to be more strategic with my materia etc. and really made for a satisfying second playthrough; usually hate being forced to replay on higher difficulties for trophies).

Anyway, I assume we can just start the episode from the menu and don’t have to go find it in-game somewhere at some time? I’ll definitely pick it up.

  • Is there any way to pre-order just the DLC and get the Cacstar if we bought the game previously? I feel like people who supported the game at launch shouldn’t be locked out of that.

  • There are very few games I would bother buying DLC for, but I’m a sucker for anything FF7. Day one.

  • Looks nice, but the subtitle sounds dumb.

  • Well looks like I’m double dipping sorry but I get irritable when my boxes aren’t consistent or match up

  • Avengers must have really hurt Square Enix’s bottom line because the remake was only the midgar section of the original game which took 5 hours and they filled the remake up with filler and trash side quests less than a year later they are adding DLC character into that existing game exclusive too PS5 and a Remastered version that looks worse graphically compared to the PS4 version sad honestly

    • Whilst I do think there was a lot of filler and trash in the remake, I think you’re being disingenuous by comparing it to the original game, because it is seemingly an alternate reality sequel to the original game (certainly you need to have played the original to understand quite a lot of what’s going on).

    • Seems silly how games like FFXII and Dragonquest offers a large world with multiple towns and cities, as does the (almost yearly) Assassins Creed whatever. But FFVII which basically has 1 city, 3 towns and a few villages was “imposible”.

5 years to make just Midgar is a bit rubbish and slow (especially considering Dirge of Cerberus had basically all of the towns and cities of FFVII in 3D on the PS2).

Nomura is a crap director with no original ideas, who has zero clue how to do anything well or quickly. The sooner Square Enix get rid of him the better.

  • Will this extraño available to purchase on PS4 Or is PS5 exclusive?

  • This is pathetic and I just couldn’t believe when I saw it at the State of Play so came here to confirm…how in the world are you not releasing the DLC for PS4?…what the hell is wrong with you guys?…what kind of shady crap is this?…not gonna release the DLC for the system where the game belongs to?…just on the lame recycled version?…well have it your way then, glad game is being offered for free on Plus was gonna buy it in disc but no way in hell I’ll support this type of crap.

Take notes from Capcom jerks, they released their lame recycled version of DMC 5 for PS5 but Vergil DLC was released for PS4 too.

    • Why didn’t they release the Dragonquest XI addon as DLC, and instead port the entire terrible looking Switch version?

When was the last time Square Enix did anything that made sense?

There’s a reason why their games division has made constant recorded losses since forever.

  • Square promised the full final fantasy 7 remake to PS4 system back in 2015 when they announced it . I bought the game with the intention to play the full game and the extras that they promised. Now they launch a DLC exclusevely to PS5. This is misleading advertising. All content linked to the name Final Fantasy 7 Remake should be Released in PS4.Want to increase sales of Ps5 with the success of FF 7? great, make another game with another ID and launch separately. It is not fair for players to have to buy another console to access content from the game that was released primarily on PS4 and is not yet complete.

    • It took them 5 years to make 1/3rd of the first disk (of 3). So considering that the 3rd disk is fairly short, at the current rate it’s going to take them around another 30 years to finish.

So taking 7 years as the average generation, it’s probably going to be compete around the time the PS9 launches. 😁

  • Wait for years, buy PS3 to play the remake. Comes out on PS4, buy PS4 to play the remake. New content comes, I am not buying a PS5. Hello Xbox.

  • Come on, it’s PS5. You can easily achieve both 4K and 60fps at once.

Spiderman Miles Morales achieved this by setting Dynamic Resolution scaling up to 1440p, and by rendering Ray-Tracing up to 1/4th to achieve 60fps.

It doesn’t have to be full 4K, but it’s still the best of both worlds.

  • Does anyone know if you dont already own it on PS4, will there be a disc version made available on PS5

  • i wanna know is how do i upgrade my game

  • In the effort of being kind and constructive. I’ll refrain from the choice words i wish to say regarding the Yuffie chapter of FF7 Remake only being available on ps5. I seriously only bought my ps4 to play the remake. I did get KH collection and KH3 for my wife but I got the system 100% for FF7. Now I’m faced with the news that I cannot play the next portion of it unless I scrounge up the money for a ps5. I doubt it would be that difficult to downgrade a couple things to make it eligible for the ps4 and still maintain the favor of loyal fans to the franchise all over the world. I have lost all faith in Sony and Square Enix due to this unfortunate decision they have made.

  • I bought the digital deluxe for the first game on PS store and when I go to the Intergrade preorder it says unavailable. Did I miss something or will I have to wait till the game comes out to get it?

  • Those who got the”free” PS+ version of FFVII are screwed if they want the PS5 upgrade. Only the non-PS+ PS4 version gets the free upgrade, and it’s massively discounted at the moment, and the PS5 version is way more expensive, but now those who got the free version can’t re-buy the PS4 version… This is a major oversight

  • Just bring it out on PC and be done with it, my PS5 sucks compared to my PC

  • So I have the ps+ version of the game and was wondering if I purchased the ps5 version when it came out it maybe it would still keep my saves from the PS4? Does anyone know if this is possible?

  • Literally bought ps4 solely for this game. I wish they’d just hurry up man this talk has been going on for as long as I can remember and I was honestly very disappointed with the lack of content, I played through it twice and doubt that I will again. It’s missing way too much from the original, in my opinion. And it’s very unlikely I’ll get a ps5 anytime soon, maybe in 5 years.
