Next-gen details revealed for Rainbow Six Siege on PS5

Ubisoft is delivering a target 120fps, 4K resolution, faster loads, and immersive DualSense controller features.

Greetings Operators. The team at Ubisoft wanted to drop an update regarding Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege on the PlayStation 5. Please read on, enjoy, and get ready to breach into next generation. – Tim Turi

Hello PlayStation community, we at Ubisoft are super excited today to be able to bring you the latest details on what we will be bringing to your favourite tactical team-based action game into the next generation.

Finally, we can say that a native PS5 version of Rainbow Six Siege will be available December 1, kicking off alongside Year 5 Season 4! We are excited to share more information on an enhanced Rainbow Six experience for all PS5 players.

Graphics and Performance on PS5

PS5 players will be able to experience the excitement of Rainbow Six Siege with the highest graphical enhancements that the game has to offer on consoles. These enhancements will offer multiple options for prioritizing either performance or resolution, granted players are equipped with a compatible device:

  • Performance Mode: Target 120 fps with 4k Dynamic Resolution Scaling
  • Resolution Mode: Target 60 fps with 4k Resolution
  • Activity Card support for Ranked, Unranked, Newcomer, Quick Match, & Events so players can dive into the game faster

The graphical power of the PlayStation 5 enables better lighting and depth of field improvements, especially on long distance. Get ready to literally see your favorite map in a new light, and uncover new levels of detail.

Performance mode, which targets 120 frames per second, makes Siege gameplay smoother than ever. Siege’s stable FPS holds up even under incredible duress, like breach charges that cause destructive explosions. 120 fps enhancements are dependent on your TV, so look into those details to get the most out of the game.

Thanks to the PS5’s SSD, players can jump into the game faster than before and start playing. The map loading time has never been so short, allowing you to quickly jump from your operator selection to the preparation phase.

DualSense Wireless Controller

However the PS5 Rainbow Six Siege experience is not limited to visual enhancements. The dev team has embraced the new DualSense wireless controller, with its haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, for better immersion and improved reflexes in high-stakes gunfights.

Thanks to the DualSense controller’s adaptive triggers, squeezing the R2 trigger emulates the resistance of an actual trigger, offering a unique feel for each weapon category and shooting gadget. For example, adaptive trigger resistance is light and quick for pistols, and heavier for bigger, powerful weapons like light machine guns. Players will also be able to feel the difference between single fire and full-automatic for full immersion.

In addition, thanks to the haptic feedback players will sense impact like never before. Dynamic and immersive, haptic feedback reacts with the environment. Weapons, explosions, gadgets and so on will provide feedback directly in the player’s hands.

Transitioning to PS5

If you currently own a copy of Rainbow Six Siege on PS4 and plan to acquire a PS5, you will be able to upgrade your game at no additional cost. All players will be able to keep their progression and in-game items when transitioning between consoles. Owners of physical game copies can only upgrade at no extra cost if they have a PlayStation 5 console with a disc drive.

Cross-play is also available for players gaming on PS4 and PS5, and they will be able to face one another whether playing on a PS4 or PS5.

Don’t miss out on the immersive power PS5 offers with 120fps, 4K resolution, faster loading, and immersive DualSense controller features. Join the Rainbow Six team on PS5 on December 1, and get ready to enjoy more updates in the future.

  • I can’t wait! but I also really hoped that we could get Tempest 3D Audio for Siege.. since I hate R6:S audio.. but yeah will do. awesome blogpost!

  • Are we getting motion/gyro aiming options alongside the other Dualsense improvements too?

  • Thanks Ubi, sounds great. Not as good as Knack 2, but nothing is really.

  • Great. Now can we get a decent ranking system instead of the oversimplified “team win = rank up” and if you could let us play all the maps and modes instead of just the ones that make streamers happy, that’d be lovely. Best shooter of the PS4 generation IMO.

  • Love the FPS and Activity Card feature!

  • Dear Ubisoft. Please consider adding motion-controls to the game. Thank you for your consideration.

  • I just bought the deluxe edition if anyone wants to play send me a friend request

  • My question is why when I try playing rainbow 6 it’s says trial has ended and purchase four $10bucks when I been bought and played this game?

  • Please allow us to set the dead zone to zero. Having it at a minimum of 5 has always ruined my experience playing this game with a DS4. The input lag needs to go for a game about precision without auto aim.

Nobody cares if there is any more screen tearing as a result.

  • Without limits aside from bots buying all the stock, every restock. I love PS, been through multiple launches. This is out of hand. Why? Why, should I stay up constantly refreshing for the split second I can get one in my cart. Then disappear because a bot bought it,

  • Dont worry, you can buy one at 1000% mark up. This is nothing but a middle finger to the common gamer just wanting to play.

  • If I got the game digital will I still be able to play it on ps5

  • I just want the ps5…been a customer with PlayStation wayyyy to long. The fact that I’ve been trying to get it since the first pre order and still no luck makes me cringe.

  • Ps5 me please 😩

  • I’m assuming that after downloading the next-gen update you won’t be able to use a third-party PS4 controller anymore yeah? I might hold off on the upgrade for this reason alone. PS5 controller is great for single player games but trying to shoot with those mile-long triggers is assssssss. Had to switch aim/shoot to L1/R1 to play COD

  • Not that impressive of a genuine upgrade.

  • Gotta be honest here, the two versions look practically the same to me. Not much of a graphics upgrade. I expected it to be another step towards photo-realistic. When are we going to get characters and scenery that look more like real life?

  • From everything shown, it turns out that ps4 works better and faster than the new ps5 console! WTF ?? XD

  • R6 still struggles with cheaters using DDOS and Mouse and Keyboard meaning will the game be worth going back to just to be playing a losing fight every time ?

  • Dear Ubisoft if you remastered the cooking mama trilogy then you are officially the best game company of all time oh yeah and keep up the good work.

  • Little upsetting that there is a lack of PS5’s. Most of my friends switched to PC. I’ve been a PlayStation fan since I was a kid, but I think I might follow PC gaming.

  • I currently have a PS5 and I’ve tried multiple times to insert my physical PS4 copy of R6 Siege, but it says it’s unable to recognize the disk… not sure what to do as any other PS4 disk works just fine and the disc isn’t damaged
