The Nioh Collection announced for PS5, launches next February

Celebrate the franchise’s 4-year anniversary with remastered editions of both games featuring 4K and up to 120FPS support.

Salutations to all of our demon slaying samurai and ninjas! We hope you’re enjoying your way through the latest DLC expansion for Nioh 2, Darkness in the Capital. While I’m sure you have your hands full with all of the challenging bosses and missions, not to mention the new difficulty level, we’ve been diligently working to bring you more Nioh content.

Nioh 2

The thrilling conclusion to the Nioh 2 story and the third and final DLC expansion-The First Samurai, will be available on December 17, 2020*. Brace yourselves to take on some of the most challenging missions and formidable foes in the entire series, along with an added difficulty level that will give even the most seasoned veterans a run for their money. While you still have some time to prepare for this climactic expansion, I wanted to provide a bit of story context to give you a hint as to what awaits you in this next DLC installment.

Nioh 2

A flash of light from Sohayamaru whisks the protagonist back to the past as a Visitor for the third and final time. They are brought back to the place their mother spoke of when they were very young, the land of the fabled youth that defeated an oni. Otakemaru’s past, the secret of Sohayamaru, and the truth behind the first samurai. All of these mysteries will be revealed, and the protagonist’s long journey will finally come to a climactic end.

Nioh 2

As we approach the release of this third DLC expansion for Nioh 2, I am happy to announce that we will be releasing several titles to celebrate the series and give new fans a way to experience the entire Nioh story, from Nioh to Nioh 2, on PlayStation 5.

For those of you who are looking to continue your demon slaying journey in Nioh 2 onto PlayStation 5 from your PlayStation 4, there are two upgrade routes for you to take***:

  • Players that own Nioh 2 – The Complete Edition on PS4 can upgrade to Nioh 2 Remastered – The Complete Edition on PS5 at no additional cost.

Upgrades for disc copies of PS4 versions are only available if you have a PlayStation 5 console with Ultra HD Blu-Ray disc drive***. To obtain your upgrade, you will need to insert your PS4 game disc into your PlayStation 5 console with Ultra HD Blu-Ray disc drive, navigate to the Game Hub and select the upgrade offer to download the corresponding digital PS5 remastered version of the game, which you can then play while your PS4 disc is in the drive.

If you purchase a digital copy of PS4 versions of the game, you can simply navigate to the Game Hub on your PS5 console and select the upgrade offer to download the corresponding PS5 remastered version. Note: you will need to log into your PS5 console with the same PlayStation Network account that you were using when you purchased the PS4 versions of the game.

Please note that Nioh 2 Remastered as well as the Nioh 2 DLC expansions for PS5 are not available for individual purchase.

While many of you may be sad to see the story of Nioh 2 arriving at its final chapter (I know I am), I’d like to thank all of our fans that have been by our side along this crazy journey from the release of the first Nioh right up until this milestone. On behalf of Team Ninja, I want to express our sincere gratitude for supporting the Nioh series and our team through this long and wonderful ride.

As a token of our appreciation, we thought there was no better way to celebrate the Nioh series, one very near and dear to our hearts, than remastering the entire story for both veterans and new players alike to enjoy utilizing the latest hardware.

So, gather your best gear, hone your skills and perfect your build one more time as you prepare to unleash your darkness on a multitude of brutal bosses and fierce fiends that await you in the voyage ahead. The time is near to experience the thrilling conclusion to the Nioh 2 saga. Thanks again my ninjas and samurai, it’s been an honor!

Nioh 2

*Nioh 2 is required to play “The Tengu’s Disciple,” “Darkness in the Capital” and “The First Samurai” (sold separately or as part of the Nioh 2 Season Pass)

*4K resolution and 120 FPS settings require a monitor that supports these features

***Blu-ray discs are not compatible with the PS5 Digital Edition. If you own PS4 Blu-ray discs, you will not be able to use them with the PS5 Digital Edition console, including to redeem offers to upgrade a PS4 game to a PS5 version. You can, however, upgrade eligible digital games.

  • What about season pass holders? Will we get the complete edition on ps5 if we bought the standard version and then season pass?

  • I knew Nioh will be amazing on PS5 solely because of the variable framerate mode, which the PS5 would power up. But you guys are going the extra step and provide enhancements. Cannot wait. Even though I own everything on ps4, if the package is nice for the Collection I will definitely get it.

  • Can we get the physical version of the collection in English also ?

  • Wait, so if I have the original Nioh 2 on PS4, can I upgrade for free to the PS5 version or not? Not very clear!

    • yes, had to read it a couple of times but gist is if you have nioh 2 you get ps5 version and then all ps5 versions of expansions you own
or full lot if have complete edition or season pass

  • Great news,

However, what about Nioh ? Do owners of the original Nioh get to have the upgrade ?

  • We who bought the Nioh 2 Digital Deluxe edition from PS Store, do we get “Nioh 2 Remastered – The Complete Edition” for free then on the PS5 ?!

  • cool, will be good once i get a ps5 next year lol for nioh 2 anyway, not sure want to pay again for first nioh though but will see

  • I’m a little confused. I pre-ordered both game’s digital deluxe editions when they were first announced, but it doesn’t seem that they are considered in this upgrade. Am I just kiss reading and the are they considered? Do the digital deluxe editions qualify as “Complete Editions”? Regardless I’m looking forward to the upgrades!

    • If the digital deluxe edition included the season pass then yes, that would qualify you for the complete edition.

    • Players that own Nioh 2 – The Complete Edition on PS4 can upgrade to Nioh 2 Remastered – The Complete Edition on PS5 at no additional cost.
Players that own Nioh 2 on PS4 can upgrade to the base game – Nioh 2 Remastered on PS5, and receive the PS5 version of any DLC expansions they own on PS4.

So far it looks like only Nioh 2 is a free upgrade. Also, any DLC for Nioh 2 on Ps4 will carry over to Ps5.

  • PLEASE BE CLEAR ABOUT CURRENT PS4 VERSION OWNERS. IS THIS FREE OR PAID UPGRADE?
I own nioh 1 and season pass. Will I have to pay to upgrade this?

    • So far only Nioh 2 is a free upgrade. If they mentioned Nioh 2 is free I am sure they would have said Nioh 1 is free if it was. We will have to see.

  • Will our trophies transfer/auto pop though? If not I have no desire to spend any more time doing each game over again.

  • Will the ps5/Bea5t run at 60fps in cinematic mode? Because action mode downgrades the graphics but runs at 6pfps while cinema mode increases graphics but runs at 30fps.

    >:/

  • So what if I own Nioh 2 plus all the DLC on my PS4. Do I get an upgrade to the PS5 version “at no additional cost”, or do I have to pay?

  • So many things are not answered here, especially for Nioh 1.

    1. Do Nioh 1 Complete Edition owners on PS4 get a free upgrade to PS5? I guess not.

    2. If I buy Nioh Collection or Nioh 1 Remastered, do my saves carry over in both cases from the PS4 version. I’m not willing to buy it again if my saves don’t carry over.

  • These versions will has Haptic dualsense??

  • Will there be physical copies of the collection on PS5? I would love to be able to own this physically.

  • Well, this is good. The collection I really want is a Ninja Gaiden collection (not the Black versions as they have cut content, but maybe add their new features to the more complete versions?). And the GCI cutscenes in 480p need to be redone. Maybe in remake the games in the DOA6 engine?

  • Oops, Yes it will have haptic feedback according the trailer they released for the Nioh collection on the PS5. ;-)

  • Team Ninja’s support for performance modes and higher framerates on PS4 Pro and now PS5 has been incredible. Thank you for being the real MVP.

  • great news :) i can’t wait to try the 120 fps mode

  • How much will it cost?

  • Looks awesome, I can’t wait. That’s all I wanted on my PS5, when I get one.

  • Please release physical version of this collection

  • Hello

First of all I want to felicity Team Ninja for the outstanding work on Nioh and Nioh 2 and bless them for this free upgrades to fans. But can you awser to this question pls:
The physical PS4 game NiOh has also a free upgrade path to the PS5 or the free upgrade path for PS5 is only for Nioh 2?

    Thanks for Portugal!

  • Why are you advertising and selling games for a seemingly non-existent console that NO ONE can get their hands on?? We can buy games, controllers, headsets, with NO issue. But we can’t get the console???

  • Awesome! Will this get a physical version?

    • In Japan yes they have showed pictures of it on Tecmo’s Japanese Twitter account. For the West? No formal announcement so we will have to wait until the 20th and see.

Also remember X is default for Confirm and O is default for Deny in Japanese PS5 games now so the only issue would be English voice and possible Subtitles inclusion for a Japanese physical release.

Well and the obvious you would have to import it.

  • I Knew Waiting until February would be worth it!!

What about the OG Nioh owners? we get screwed over? please let us upgrade in the same way. Come, your are doing a great job with Nioh2, don’t alienate ps4 nioh supporters like other companies with their games.

    • Sadly that part is unknown hopefully on the 20th when the store page is live you can see if it says free for Nioh 1 Remastered.

This is a good thing people are asking it needs to be outright denied it is happening or just say it’s free.

  • Typical PR nonsense.
It is not clear whether those who have the base game of Nioh 2 with the separate DLC purchased will get the DLC for free on PS5.
It is not clear whether owning Nioh 1 will get you a remastered.
Just be crystal clear, it cost nothing to be open and honest.

  • Nice, but why can’t we get Demon’s Souls to support 120 frames per second?

    • Demon’s Souls at 60fps is running at closer to 1440p default so my guess it would have to be in a 1080p mode to even attempt 120fps.

The graphics tech in it are pushing hard to even get native 4k at 30fps.

It’s possible but I’d bug BluePoint Games not Sony directly as BluePoint are the developers.

  • So free upgrades that’s awesome! But will there be a physical release of both games in a collection for PS5?

    • Yes, there is a physical PS5 collection planned. It probably hasn’t been announced officially but distributors have a listing for it. Barcode is 711719545897 and price is $69.99.

  • Wow pathetic…and the sheeps excited to support this cancer are even worse,y’all devs releasing recycled versions of your games for PS5 just to cash-grab are the worst type of scum since now with BC there’s literally no reason to recycle your games but oh well there’s always those who enjoy being robbed and will pay for this right?…hmpf.Makes me not want to support you guys ever again but I’ll get that Nioh 2 Complete Edition for PS4 when it’s dirty cheap of course.

    • If you own Nioh 2 Complete you get the PS5 upgrade for free. No cost.

120fps even on PC is pretty difficult on single player games (game depending) and how new your hardware is. Definitely not happening with a PC that costs $500.

You do you but for us that want more 120fps console games no way your just being silly here.

    • Stop been stupid,Team Ninja, they are offering free upgrades for people that own the game already, contrary to some developers like Remedy and Publishers like 505 that make us pay for upgrades on Control. So if like me people like to collect games to keep its good to have free upgrade versions to keep playing on new systems. I also don’t see a problem if the developers and publishers want to sell new remaster versions, you only buy if you want, no one is obligated to buy!

  • Was just wondering if we’d get an upgrade. Wonderful news.

  • It would be awesome to see a physical copy of this collection. Having all of the content on a disc would be ace.

  • Sounds good! Glad the upgrade path for us existing players is clear

  • I hope every version that contains the full game with DLCs is considered “complete edition”, I bought this game and all of its DLCs in the special edition on preorder, which is not only the full game with DLCs but also the steel cover and art book, would be sad not to get the remaster version for free oon PS5 just because “special edition” is not the same as “complete edition”

  • Maaaan, I just bought the first game, on disc… Glad to know physical buyers have some upgrade options though! Any news on PC version of Nioh 2?

  • This whole process has become completely convoluted and anti-consumer.

So let me get this clear before I consider any additional purchases. If I already own Nioh and Nioh 2 with all the DLC on PS4, I do NOT get the free upgrade to Nioh Remastered and Nioh 2 Remastered? So this is a double-dip scenario?

  • Re-reading again, and still unclear if this is specific to Nioh or Nioh 2 on PS4.

“If you purchase a digital copy of PS4 versions of the game, you can simply navigate to the Game Hub on your PS5 console and select the upgrade offer to download the corresponding PS5 remastered version. Note: you will need to log into your PS5 console with the same PlayStation Network account that you were using when you purchased the PS4 versions of the game.”

Does this apply to PS4’s “Nioh – The Complete Edition”? Will I get the free upgrade for the PS5 remastered version?

  • I will never buy Nioh games again. I bought 1and 2; Both were too difficult. If it had an easy level I would by everyone that came out. Like I bought ALL of the Assassin Creed line.

    • Masocore genre is designed to not be easy, that’s the point of it.

Nioh’s director: “Nioh is meant to be a masocore game so during development, we consciously avoided making the game easy.”

    • It’s not a matter of making it way easy for consumers/gamers. It’s basically making it enjoyable in a sense of expanding the possibility of levelling up, where it’s not too damn cap’d every damn time they come up of a new dream dream BS!!…

It’s just too unreasonable to cap the stats and possible levelling up.

I kinda agree with sondradee2007 though, the first Nioh really ticked me off. It was beyond annoying where you get hit and you’re down like a damn jello!, but eventually I challenged myself to the point where I finished the bloody game again and again and again. It’s just that the abyss I gotta deal with now, but I put that on hold since the 2nd Nioh came out and that is already on platinum trophy ladies and gents.

I’m simply demanding for them developers to remove the stupid cap’n for the stats and allow us to go crazy hrs on grinding for exp!!
