A guide to streaming games using Twitch on PS5

A helpful launch week guide for setting up your stream from pros at Twitch.

Congratulations! You and your PlayStation 5 are ready to start creating content on Twitch. Thanks to the Create button on your DualSense wireless controller it’s now faster than ever to start up a stream from the comfort of your console. The guide below will show you how to set up a Twitch account and how to adjust some of your Twitch settings, as well as how to go live on Twitch from your PS5.

While many streamers choose to start streaming with a laptop or computer, the good news is that for most gamers, you have everything you need to start streaming already in your living room. If you’ve got a PlayStation 5 console, you can be live on Twitch in just a few simple steps*.

1. Create a Twitch account from a mobile device or computer. We recommend downloading Twitch on your iOS or Android phone to adjust your stream settings on the fly, which is easy to do with your Stream Manager in the Twitch app.

2. Personalize your channel so viewers know who you are when they discover your page! You can modify your profile photo and bio on mobile, or customize a number of additional settings via a web browser. We’ve set up an entire Creator Camp page on Personal Branding to show you all of the places you can customize your channel page to reflect you and your brand.

3. Before you start streaming, we recommend that you log in to your Twitch account from a web browser so you can establish your Moderation and Safety settings to ensure the experience for your growing community is positive. AutoMod is a great tool to serve as your first line of defense for moderation because it will detect messages in chat that have been flagged as inappropriate and block them from appearing until you or a moderator review and approve. You can also update your settings to include a custom list of words or phrases to filter from your channel automatically.

Streaming from the PlayStation 5 console

1. First, you’ll need to link your Twitch account to PlayStation Network by following the directions on your screen and scanning the QR code, or inputting the code provided to twitch.tv/activate. If you already linked your PlayStation Network and Twitch accounts on PS4, you’ll be able to migrate that to PS5 during this process. Keep in mind that two-factor authentication is required to stream from your PS5, even if you migrate your linked PlayStation Network & Twitch accounts.

2. While playing a game, press the Create button on your controller and then select Broadcast from the Create options, and select Twitch. You can also select Broadcast from your customized Control Center. Players can use the DualSense controller mic for broadcast audio as well.

3. Give your stream a title, add in your PlayStation 5 HD Camera if available, customize your overlay position, and more. You can also choose your video quality options from the Capture and Broadcasts section of the System menu.

Tip: You will automatically be placed in the game category for the game you’re playing. For maximum searchability and follower engagement, we recommend using the Twitch iOS or Android app so you can select a custom go-live notification and add in additional tags.

4. Click Go Live and you’re now streaming!

5. To stop streaming, press the Create button on your controller, select Broadcast from the Create options, and then select Stop Broadcasting. You can also press the PlayStation button to stop broadcasting via the Control Center or Broadcast card. Alternatively, you can select Pause Broadcast via the Create options to take a break.

To increase the quality of your streams, we recommend ensuring upgraded audio and visuals. The quality of your audio is critical in helping you connect with viewers. If you’re interested in inviting viewers to see your reactions while playing, you’ll need to purchase the PlayStation 5 HD Camera.

This guide is just the beginning of your Twitch journey and we’re so glad to see you on your way! Your path as a content creator is unique, whether you’re streaming on Twitch as a hobby or wanting to make it a career. There is no pressure to plan the perfect stream. Take your time and have as much fun as you can while sharing your next-generation PlayStation 5 experience with your community and the world.

  • This is a greater introduction to the next generation of live streaming better than PS4 I’ll give it a test drive sooner rather than later

    • I get paid more than $120 to $130 per hour for working online. I heard about this job 3 months ago and after joining this I have earned easily $15k from this without having online working skills.
      This is what I do….. Www.Work43.com

    • Can u stream from someone else’s ps5 during co op? I was playing Sackboy with my fiance and I wanted to promote the game but it wouldn’t allow me to stream from her ps5. Perhaps bc it was her profile that started the game? Thing is, I did sign in to play co op so I assumed I could stream from my portion. I even linked my Twitch but it kept trying to connect and never worked. Any advice is welcomed.

  • Very useful information thanks!

  • So far I’ve tried streaming Astro’s Playroom and Bugsnax, but everything is categorized as a “blocked scene” and not broadcasting anything but my mic! Any idea how to fix that?

    • Same. It just goes between a pause icon and the broadcast icon on a blue screen. I have all my privacy settings set to be open to stream. I don’t get what I’m doing ng wrong and would appreciate some resolution.

    • I had the same experience. I was able to make a video clip of Astro’s though. It also seemed like it would let me stream Final Fantasy XIV.

    • If it says Blocked Scene, then it usually means the developer don’t allow that particle scene to be streamed. It’s in a lot of games, and makes the PS4/PS5 streaming feature almost pointless.

  • When I am broadcasting, my friends can barely hear the background music and sound. They can hear my mic. It is echoing….. annoying.
Can someone help me? I tried to turn off the mic from the game setting but it still broadcast out.
I tried to turn off from system setting but didn’t work!!!!!!

  • I can turn off the party chat so when i am broadcasting so no one else can hear.
But my mic is still on. WHY!!?!?! Only block my party chat~

  • Thanks for the guide. Is there a Squad Stream option with your friends on Ps5 ? I also wonder that are we able to livestream while also your friend is sharing his screen to you ?

  • What does the chat overlay look like? Is it a decent overlay or that horrible bar on the side of the screen like PS4?

  • Twich account linked on Ps5 but my broadcast arent showing up on twitch (blue screen)

    • I have the same problem, but I just read on Reddit that to go to hdmi setting and find hdcp and switch it off I will try it myself when I get home.

  • I disabled the HDCP on my ps5 but it still only streams audio and not video. Any ideas?

  • One question about broadcasting to Twitch from my PS5 … When I was playing Spiderman Miles Morales and broadcasting, there have been 2 occasions where it simply stated “Broadcast stopped” for no obvious reason, this is obviously an issue when trying to capture gameplay walkthroughs. I have been trying to limit my sessions to 15/20 mins since then but I can’t imagine that’s the intention, any advice?

  • If it is possible to append customized stream endpoints? A lot of local stream website in all over the world.
Such as if want to use niconico of Japan or bilibili of China, I have no idea how to do the broadcast.
But those websites all provide their stream url and security code. I think it should be ok to append that function in PS5.
    Hear me, please.

    • Nico nico is japanese accounts only..
They do not agree to fund non japanese PS4 console accounts stream with Free bandwidth..

The other streaming systems can be added if they do a API license and release..
This is why PS4 HAD more streaming services. Those services rejected the Cost of bandwidth of video Vs the return an Quit console streaming..
      Daily motion
      Ustream
      Quit the console streaming..
Niconico only give SIE streaming access for japanese PS4/PS5 users…

Thats nico nico choice they don’t want you…

  • Hey this is somewhat off-topic but I don’t like the fact that when you manually start recording the recording icon stays. I want to upload at 1080p playing without the icon on my screen.

  • How do you add background music to your stream??

  • Loving the new streaming capability, especially the ease of moving the camera to more desired spots Adler the new chat overlays! The one thing I think that could really help is the ability to fill the screen with the camera and the ability to change the game without the stream ending. Otherwise this is a huge leap forward for streaming directly from a home console. As a content creator without a streaming capable computer or one that works with capture cards, it’s awesome to be able to stream high quality looking gameplay with the press of a button!
