Introducing the new PlayStation App, redesigned to enhance your gaming experiences on PS4 and PS5

Updated PS App includes new UI layout, integrated messages feature, support for voice chat, and more.

Today we’re introducing new ways to amplify your connections with friends and the games you love to play even when you’re away from your console. We’re pleased to unveil the updated PlayStation App, reimagined to enhance your gaming experiences on both PS4 and PS5.

Starting later today, the PS App will begin to roll out globally through updates on iOS (12.2 or later) and Android (6.0 or later) mobile devices. The PS App introduces fresh features such as voice chat, native PS Store integration, and a smoother experience delivered in an all-new design.

Please note: the Android version of the update is a phased release and may take one week until the update is reflected on your mobile device.

Here’s a list of the key features for PS App:

  • Updated user interface – The first thing you’ll notice is the sleek new user interface of the redesigned PS App. The new home screen lets you quickly see what your friends are playing and access details about your recently played games, including your Trophy List.
  • Messages integration – For a unified experience, the PS Messages app feature will now be integrated in the updated PS App so you can seamlessly message your friends all in one place. As part of this integration, PS Messages will no longer be available as a standalone app. Your existing messages and threads in PS Messages will be carried over to the updated PS App.
  • Voice Chat and Party Groups – You can now create party groups from PS App, and voice chat with up to 15 other friends though your mobile phone. Also, a note to fans: the PlayStation team is looking into your feedback around the Parties changes introduced in the PS4 system software update 8.00. There are no updates to share today, but thanks for speaking up about your concerns – we’re listening and evaluating.
  • Natively integrated PlayStation Store and remote downloads – The new native PS Store experience enables fast and smooth shopping and browsing, with the ability to remotely download games and add-ons directly to your PS4 and PS5.
  • New features for PS5 – When PS5 arrives, you’ll be able to remotely launch games, manage storage on your console if you run out of space while downloading a game, and quickly sign in to PS5 straight from the PS App.
  • All the latest PlayStation news – The Explore tab surfaces Official News from game developers and PS Blog content to help you stay up to date with the world of PlayStation.

If you don’t have the PS App yet, you’ll need an account for PlayStation Network to access the updated app. If you don’t have an account yet, please visit this link and follow the steps to sign up.

The new PS App can be downloaded from the App Store and Google Play.

  • So far so good.

    Hopes for:

    Media Tab
    -Transfer Media between phone/console

    Communities Tab

Shortcut to Remote Play/Future PSNow app?

    And lastly; PC/Mac PS App.

  • Would it be possible to get the message notifications even if my ps is open ? I disabled them on my ps4 so they don’t cover the screen, but they no longer pop up on the app once the ps4 is running.

  • Everything’s fine. But where is the activities tab in new PS App? I can’t see the contents that I shared earlier.

  • Not a fan of the new store front. It looks nice, but what happened to the filters, sorting, and most importantly, the wishlist?

  • Dont have it yet in Canada on android

  • Its 9pm and I still haven’t got the update for the app

  • Don’t have it yet

  • This new app is really good and smooth on ios, I hope playstation will add wishlist option like in the old website 😃

  • PS Vita games no more

  • I’ve been browsing the updated app and it’s wonderful. Thank you Sony.

  • Please Add the wish list on the first update! thanks

  • Looks good, more responsive but seems low res?

  • Perfect timing! New update looks and works great!

  • Am I the only one having trouble updating the app

  • Most imp. I like the integration of the messages app but r we getting the screenshots, videos, etc. directly accessible via our phone feature like the Xbox app?

Also, is there a replacement for communities or something similar on the way?

  • It is now 1:00 A.M. The update still hasn’t came and I am really confused why. If should have reached me by all my other friends have it. They live semi-close to me. What about me?

  • Why did the new app drop support for landscape on iOS? I use my iPad with a keyboard attachment to type messages and chat in games. This is a huge drag…

  • When you’re toggling the push notifications, what is the on position – left or right?

  • Still no App update for me. I’m on an S10+ and Google store is still showing old app. Any ideas?

  • I can’t see there is no update on Google play?

  • Removing the Wishlist is obnoxious and inexcusable.

    • There seems to be a wishlist update push notification toggle in the settings. But I still could not figure out how to wishlist a game in the new version.

    • Wishlist is being added to the console store so this push thing will just tell you if anything in that list price changes

  • Hey, what about the change in the desktop version of the store. Why there are no more media information about the games with pictures and trailers?

  • The PlayStation app still hasn’t been updated for me. Anyone know what’s going on?

  • Will it be available in all countries?

  • There’s no update for Android yet!

  • Under Settings > PlayStation App > Push Notifications. I see wishlist updates there. But I could not seem to make some wishlist while browsing the store.

Is this saved for a later update?

  • the party update is so annoying. why I need to be in chat thread with group I voice chat with them once a week?. that’s will lead to too many different chat threads and annoying notifications!.

  • Let me send screenshots and videos to the iPhone more easily please and where’s the “What’s New” feed?

  • Lemme guess…we won’t be able to see friends who are online on PS3 and Vita & what they’re playing just like you did to PS4?…well that’s f-ing pathetic. So this is a trashy step backwards in the app…aside from the actual Store being on it,that’s something good at least. The redesign based on PS5’s UI is crappy too, unnecessary…the white and blue was perfect.

Stop spitting in the face of your longtime fans greedy and arrogant Sony.

  • Still the same old app and design for me, even this next day. Ohs well.

  • I still wonder why would they separate everything into separate apps when it was all initially in one place when the app first launched at the start of the generation. And what took them so long to add these features? All the additions have been on the Xbox app since day 1

  • The app looks so great!! Ah man, huge improvement. Thanks for your hard work!

  • Not available in my region. Nice job Sony.
    Ps. I live in EU…

  • The messaging experience still horrible. like drag down to refresh!. why it’s not simple like other instant messaging apps eg. WhatsApp or Messenger of FB.

  • I move between NYC and Dominican Republic. There’s no app available for Latinamerica. That’s a shame.

  • Looks slick!

Really like the new feature that will let me manage my PS5’s storage via the app.

Can’t wait until my app updates to check it out myself :)

  • Any plans to enable the use of widgets for this?

  • Mines still hasn’t updated anyone else the same.

  • This is dope! 👍🏼 Love the update. Looks nice, clean & is very fast & intuitive. Definitely an upgrade over the previous app, which was slower. The fact that we’ll be able to launch games remotely on PS5, create & join party chats, and a native store are awesome features. Also glad messages are merged in the main app, and not separate. That was annoying.

    Good job on the update!

  • Can’t wait to try it out

  • Looks very clean and sleek. I like 👍

  • I’m not seeing access to remote play in the app anymore? 🤷‍♂️

  • Any possibility’s we can access our screenshot and video’s from he App in the future or at launch? Or an option in the PS5 that we can auto-upload our screenshots or videos (or both) into the PS+ cloud and manage it ourselves?

  • Still no app for me. S10+ running Android 10 in the Pacific time zone in US.

  • It would be nice if we could add games, which we have in physical media, to our library and sort the list by media, download, stream, name, category, date download or installed, etc.

  • When you made Messages it’s own app that was just flat out dumb, so I am happy to see you bring it back.

As for the new Party system, it needs work. As a twitch streamer from PS4, it doesn’t at ALL fit what we streamers need.

  • I apologize, and I’m sure that there have been many complaints, but I have done everything to attempt to fix it, and nothing has worked. I’ve switched HD’s, deleted all messages through the App, tried to update the console manually via USB, and every possible way to clean the PS4 in Safe Mode, including Initializing and deleting my console data. Please let the literal thousands of people that have been locked out of their console know about the current update and keep us informed before more people start to factory reset their consoles.
