Ghost of Tsushima: Legends and New Game+ out October 16

Version 1.1 brings new co-op multiplayer experience, quality of life updates, and more.

Thank you so much for your support of Ghost of Tsushima! We are so appreciative to all of you who have shared your Platinum Trophy screenshots, Photo Mode captures, fox petting GIFs and beautiful fan art with us, as well as all of your thoughts about the game. We’ve been listening to your feedback, and we’re excited to release a major update for Ghost of Tsushima on October 16, Version 1.1.

Version 1.1 is a free update for all Ghost of Tsushima players. This update brings the launch of Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, a brand-new co-op multiplayer mode inspired by Japanese mythology, as well as exciting new updates and New Game+ for our single-player campaign! Here are all the details:

Ghost of Tsushima: Legends and New Game+ out October 16

Ghost of Tsushima: Legends

As we announced in August, Ghost of Tsushima: Legends is a brand new, online cooperative multiplayer experience that will be a free update for all Ghost of Tsushima owners. A classic element of some of our favorite samurai films is warriors standing together, ready to fight as a team. In Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, you can fight side-by-side with your friends, which is such an important part of fulfilling that samurai fantasy in a whole new way. We’re so excited to hear from everyone who teams up with their friends and jumps in.

Ghost of Tsushima: Legends features two-player story missions and four-player survival missions, as well as a Raid that we’ll release in the weeks following launch. After you’ve downloaded version 1.1 of Ghost of Tsushima, you can visit the PlayStation Store from your PS4 to download a free unlock for Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, which will allow you to play. Keep in mind that an internet connection and an active PlayStation Plus subscription will be required to play with other players.

Once you have version 1.1, you’ll notice a new character at various towns and locations in Tsushima… Gyozen the Storyteller! He’s heard the rumors about the Ghost of Tsushima, but he has a different perspective about what’s actually happening in his homeland. Gyozen is the author and gatekeeper of the stories you’ll find in Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, and when you talk to him, he’ll be happy to share one of his transportative stories about the “Ghosts.”

Speaking to Gyozen will give you access to the Ghost of Tsushima: Legends lobby, but you can also get there directly from the title menu or the pause menu… or by accepting a PSN invitation from a friend!

Classes

In Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, you’ll be able to pick between one of four classes. Each one has their own unique advantages. When you start Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, after a short tutorial, you’ll choose which class you want to unlock first. As you rank up, you’ll unlock each of the remaining classes.

In addition to each starting with their own unique ability, each class can unlock an alternate ability as you progress, as well as earning class-specific Charms and ranged weapons.

While playing with friends, you can mix and match classes however you’d like, whether that’s a party of four all playing the same class, everyone playing as a different class, or any combination in between.

Samurai

Samurai players can run straight toward combat and stay there, sustaining their health while chopping enemies down left and right. When you’re overwhelmed, use the Hachiman’s Fury ultimate attack to slash through enemies in a flurry of strikes.

Hunter

As a Hunter, you can stand on the edge of combat and snipe enemies before they even see you. You can also use explosive arrows to slow down groups, and when the combat gets really fierce, the Eye of Uchitsune ultimate attack will unleash multiple arrows straight at your enemies’ heads.

Ronin

Ronin players can revive their entire team with the Breath of Izanami ultimate ability. You might play Ronin because you want to help your human friends… or you might do it because the Ronin class is also able to summon a Spirit Dog. (And yes, you can ABSOLUTELY pet your Spirit Dog!)

Assassin

If you prefer doing massive damage with a single attack, you’ll love the Assassin. The Shadow Strike ultimate attack will allow you to teleport across the battlefield and directly strike your enemies. If that’s not intimidating enough, wait until you see the terrifying masks the Assassin gets to wear!

Story Missions

Ghost of Tsushima: Legends Story Missions are designed for two players, and take you through Gyozen’s stories about what’s really happening in Tsushima. When you unlock higher difficulties, you’ll face new encounters, tougher enemies, bonus objectives, and greater rewards.

Survival Missions

In Survival, you can team up with three other players to fight off waves of enemies while defending different locations in Tsushima. You and your team can activate blessings to help yourselves, like “ignite enemies” or “summon a Spirit Bear.” The longer you survive and the more bonus objectives you complete, the more rewards you’ll earn!

Raid

You’ll need all your skill, top-tier gear, and a great 4-player team to be able to survive in Iyo’s realm! The Raid is an epic three-part adventure that will require excellent teamwork and communication to overcome. It will be released in the weeks following the launch of Ghost of Tsushima: Legends.

Other Features

Ghost of Tsushima: Legends also has a few features you’d expect from Ghost of Tsushima. Our robust Photo Mode is still present here (as long as your teammates opt in) and you’ll be able to show off all the new masks, armor, and emotes you’ve earned.

Legends is packed with new cosmetics, and they’re all unlocked through gameplay without any microtransactions. Looking cool is important, but Ghost of Tsushima: Legends gameplay progression really centers around the gear you’ve equipped and the techniques you’ve unlocked. You’ll be rewarded with increasingly rare and powerful gear as you take on greater challenges, and you’ll unlock new techniques as you gain experience with each class.

We’ve also added some new Trophies for Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, which will appear in a separate section of your Trophy list and do not count toward Ghost of Tsushima’s Platinum Trophy.

Ghost of Tsushima Single-Player Campaign Updates

In addition to Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, version 1.1 will include new updates for Ghost of Tsushima’s single-player campaign based on your feedback.

New Game+

If you’ve already beaten Ghost of Tsushima, you’ll find the option to re-embark on Jin’s Journey in New Game+. You’ll start New Game+ from the release to the open world, shortly after Jin’s initial confrontation with the Khan. You’ll keep all of the Techniques, Gear, and Vanity items obtained in a previous playthrough, and difficulty will be increased to provide a new challenge (but you can still adjust it down in the menu).

You’ll also find yourself with a brand new New Game+ horse, which features a vibrant red mane and unique saddle. There are also new, extremely powerful Charms available that can help Jin unleash devastating attacks and may change the way you play. You’ll also be able to unlock an additional upgrade for your sword, bow, and armor.

We’ve also added some new Trophies for playing Ghost of Tsushima on New Game+, which will appear in a separate section of your Trophy list and do not count toward Ghost of Tsushima’s Platinum Trophy.

Ghost Flower Merchant

Exclusively in New Game+, you’ll be able to earn a new type of flower: the Ghost Flower. This new type of flower can only be earned in New Game+, and is accepted by a mysterious new merchant that you’ll find in Ariake. If you complete a Tale or activity and already have the reward, you’ll earn Ghost Flowers in its place, so even if you’ve completed JIn’s journey before, it’s still exciting to explore Tsushima once again to collect as many Ghost Flowers as you can.

You can exchange these flowers for new armor dyes and other vanity gear only found in New Game+, featuring much more elaborate designs than those found in your first playthrough.

The merchant will also offer an array of powerful new Charms intended to create new combat experiences, empower existing playstyles, and allow you to customize your experience for even greater challenges!

Other Features

Once you’ve installed version 1.1, you’ll now find the option to enable Armor Loadouts, which allow you to assign all Charms and vanity items to each armor set to quickly swap between loadouts to match your playstyle and roleplaying preferences.

You’ll also find that your total play time is now displayed when you select a saved game file to load, and new options have been added to Photo Mode.

These features will apply to your existing game, or to a New Game + playthrough.

Version 1.1 is absolutely packed with new content, and we hope everyone enjoys this new update! Thank you once again for all of your support since launch. Version 1.1 will be released on October 16, so whether you revisit Jin’s journey or grab some friends and try out Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, we can’t wait for you to play!

  • Loadouts! Awesome.

    • THANK YOU!

I just completed the game today. This game has earned its place in my Top 10 Favourite games of all time.

      I loved every moment.

So pleased we now have NG+.

Ps. I would still love to see added.

      1) improvements.

      — AI need to hunt LONGER when alerted, finding dead bodies, or when the player is spotted and breaks line of sight.
      — And have the AI cover a larger area when searching.
      — have the AI ‘tethers’ to their spawn points not be so rigid so they can chase the player for longer before having to run back to their spawn point.
AI really are eager to quickly rush back to there previous behaviour loop. This is immersion breaking when they have just found a dead body or spotted you only moments ago and they rush back to sit at a camp fire etc.

      — They should also have enemy AI on horses stay mounted on their horse — by doing so it gives them a distinct advantage in combat. It also gives you a reason tactically to get them off that horse.

      2) ADD more weapons — Yari and kusarigama

      3) more mission types — hostage rescue, but you have to lead them to a safe POINT/village. You can give the NPC basic orders FOLLOW, WAIT etc.
Be cool if you had to save a kid. And tell them to follow only when it’s safe. You could put them on your horse.

Steal an item missions. Similar to Shinobido — wear you have to physically carry the object, and put it down if you need to deal with enemies.

      4) playable female character.

      5) Greater immersion — Lite Survival mechanics — killing animals for food are ways you can restore health.
Sleeping restores stamina to sprint further. (Not that you would need a stamina bar).
Be able to sleep to change time of day!

    • ADD SINGLE-PLAYER STORY EXPANSION DLC + more cosmetics!

  • Hi team, is GoT going to be receiving any PS5 enhancements at launch?

    • I’d love to know this as well. I haven’t had a chance to play it. Playing on PS5 with enhancements would be awesome.

    • Absolutely this. This is the only reason I haven’t bought Ghost for my PS4Pro; I don’t want to miss out on an upgrade when the PS5 comes out. Knowing I’ll get a few upgrade to the PS5 version now, well I’d but Ghost tonight!

  • This is absolutely MIND BLOWING. I know SIE games have been known for their incredible post-launch support for Single-Player games, but wow, this is insane. I am incredibly excited for Legends! The timing is perfect: I just got my Platinum trophy and well… considering a launch PS5 doesn’t seem like it’s in my future (sadly, no pre-order yet). Legends seems like the perfect way to keep me entertained and occupied.

Seriously, kudos to Sucker Punch. This update is absolutely massive and Legends seems like it’s going to be tons of fun. Thank you!

  • Wow I did not personally enjoy this game as much as others but the content and support that SP is providing for this game (for free) is great to see I will be trying out Legends for sure.

  • And is the hunter only a girl or you can change genders for every class? If not that’s OK I’m still mind blown over this game is such a masterpiece

  • Awesome!!!!

  • Really psyched to jump back into Ghost of Tsushima! Can’t wait to play Legends. Ghost of Tsushima is my personal Game of the Year! :)

  • WHY did you have to add trophies for NG+? No I don’t want to play the campaign again but now you’ve taken my 100% away. God of War did it right, no new NG+ trophies. Move AWAY from this stupid trend of adding NG+ trophies. Otherwise create a brand new trophy set that leaves the 100% Platinum intact for the base game.

    • Completely disagree with this, loved the games and got the 100%. Them adding more trophies gives me an excuse to go back and do it all over again with new items and trophies to earn.

    • Really dude?

      100% != Platinum

      You have Platinum.

They have expanded the game since then. You no longer have 100%. That’s the case regardless of whether they add trophies or not.

They’ve also stated it “will appear in a separate section of your Trophy list”. So your main game trophy % is still 100%. So I’m not really sure what you’re complaining about to be honest…

    • Some trophy hunters like to retain 100% on every list, adding post-launch trophies obviously reduces the percentage. Not everyone has the free time to play a game multiple times to earn everything or restore their 100%. This is why at least in the trophy hunters community, there is consensus about how annoying and tedious this is. GoT was a great game sure but I have 30 other games to Platinum and having to go back isn’t fun to me. Legends sounds awesome and is something new but replaying a campaign on a harder difficulty and getting dyes isn’t exciting, more like a chore.

    • are you blind dude? the literally said that NG+ trophies do not count towards your Platinum of the regular game…. who cares it says less than 100%…. the world is filled with untitled brats now…

    • @G-MAG are you blind? I never said it counted towards the Platinum. DLC trophies NEVER count anyway. Sony doesn’t allow it. I care which is why I posted but don’t conflate a differing opinion or view point as being an entitled brat. In fact you meet that criteria of being one.

    • Read the blog post again.

    • There is always an a**h**e like you…
It’s the unwritten rule of the internet.
What’s the big deal baby ? You still have the platinum mark on your trophy list, belive me no one cares about your trophy list to go check it, and if someone accidently do it, they can see the platinum mark there.
Can’t believe you people, try to be thankfull for the gift that you were not meant to get.
P.S : IF YOU WANT THE 100% ON YOUR STU**D TROPHY LIST YOU SHOULD GET IT, new game plus is part of so stop acting like a jerk

    • I have to disagree: the developer has added more content, and therefore new trophies can be added.

100% trophy completion isn’t an entitlement. If a trophy hunter wants to maintain 100% for all game categories, they will need to keep-up on the game and do NG+.

That said, I don’t see the obsession with needing to 100% everything, it’s a strange self-imposed thing. Platinuming a game is an accomplishment in itself. I have the Plat and am very happy. I likely won’t get any NG+ trophies, but this doesn’t diminish from my platinum. It means I didn’t decide to play the game again. Heck, base game is still listed as 100% even if Add-On trophies are added.

To demand that developers should not add new trophies to go along with new content, to appease some folks who feel 100% trophy completion is an entitlement I think is an extremely regressive way of thinking and holds hostage the players who think otherwise and would like new trophies to chase.

    • To further what Dead-Sync said…

You’re having a moan about being given more, free trophies to chase on a game that you enjoyed enough to platinum – all because you want completion to stay at 100%. How can a “trophy hunter” moan about being given more to hunt?

I’m a “completionist” and “trophy hunter”, but being time constrained I prioritise chasing platinums over maintaining 100%. DLC and post-release content is a fact of life these days and I know I won’t have time to keep up with this.

But I’m glad these extra trophies are there, because its nice to have even more reason to revisit this incredible game. At the end of the day, it’s my problem that I can’t keep up (and the more games you add to your 100% list the worse its gonna get)!

Just relax, enjoy your platinum. Be thankful that you’ve got some great new content AND some additional trophies to chase, should you wish to do so. All for free.

    • Dude! Read the whole thing. It says it won’t be affected.

    • Jesus, cry much? GTFO! This is awesome

    • Complaining about the added trophies that takes your 100% trophy away from the game isn’t a true trophy hunter at all.

    • I’m a trophy hunter and this reeks of crying and entitlement. You care about something that is a non-issue. You have the Platinum. That should be all that matters. This 100% thing you’re complaining about is a you problem, not a Sony problem. Get over it.

    • Another stupid thing invented by Microsoft, to hell with trophies! Do they even give you ACTUAL value? Can you trade them for REAL trophies? For all we know someone could have played insteed of you.

    • Please go see A doctor ASAP your brain is not working properly

  • You guys Rock! Thank you for the extras! Looking forward for your Second Installment 👍🏽

  • PS5 version?

  • omg i am so hype for this i am just staring at this screen and i am unable to read anything that you just published. I LOVE SP & GHOST OF TSUSHIMA !!! =DDDDDDDDDDD

  • This is amazing! Can’t wait to jump back in.

Will definitely go after the new trophies next year (on PS5), jus hope you update and not remaster the game for us 😂

  • Wow, update sounds nice!

Will there be a way to play the legends + raid on solo and is there matchmaking? I assume there is but blog didn’t state clearly.. also is it required to have 4 players for survival and raid?

  • Are we going to be able to play this on the PS5?

  • Super Thanks for the total playtime displayed on save file, I really want to know how much time I’ve spend in this game :)

If Sucker Punch add the option to turn off “storm weather if player play stealth” this game will be perfect.

  • Guys you are going above and beyond, you’re awesome

  • Please tell me it’s a big deal for me, will we get a free 4K 60fps upgrade for ps5 ?

  • Thank you for your hard work!

  • Couple Of Questions…. If you have PS4 Digital Edition, do you get a free upgrade to the PS5.
Also If I am half way through a game, can I transfer it to the PS5 .

Seriously though, as a huge PlayStation fan…. What are you doing about SMART DELIVERY….XBOX have taken the confusion away on most things. So many questions you are not telling us about the PS5, so close to release. Why are you making it so complicated.

    • Sony did cross buy before “smart delivery”. as always even with “smart delivery” it will be up to the devs/publisher.

  • I would love to know some information about the PS5 before it comes out – this looks great but does it even run on PS5? is it worth waiting for upgrades etc

  • Wow, that’s a robust patch, really looking forward to that, great work!

And akso here I am, once again asking the team to look into gyro aiming for the bow 🙇

  • Why do they add New Trophies for the online co-op part dammit…. I live in Korea, almost no one plays consoles because there are PC rooms everywhere that are so cheap. There is no way i m gonna find a guy playing PS4, Ghost of Tsushima and speaking English, let alone 3 guys for the Raid …..
GoT was an excellent solo game, I just dont know why they had to ruin it with online co-op …. Just release it as a Stand alone like FF XV Comrades online but not as a DLC for the main game ….. Online trophies are the worst, it doesn’t depend on you but on the others, when there is no server glitch or anything going wrong.

    • What is wrong with adding extra trophies for online? Extra trophies are never needed for getting platinum, so I don’t see the issue here.

    • You still can get the platinum solo. The added feature have a sub-set of trophies. Same for other games with DLC trophies

    • Don’t worry. The Legends trophies will have their separate trophy list. You will still be able to platinum the game. Moreover, if the devs see that Legends doesn’t see a whole lot of success in a certain region, they’ll probably give out the trophies for free.

  • ….really really really curious about PS5 enhancements, if any. I have not played this yet [sadly] and have every intention to have this when my PS5 arrives nov 13-18 [according to my pre-order]

  • COVID has been such an X-factor across the gaming industry: We’ve seen many games delayed, some shipped with reduced features and support, and others delivered to market in good shape.

But the post-launch support for Ghost of Tsushima is incredible on its own in a vacuum, but how the team is managing this level of output in the COVID era is truly amazing. Whatever Sucker Punch is doing, it’s magical. Ghost of Tsushima absolutely is the Game of the Year so far.

  • I beat the game on lethal, hardest difficulty, and felt that it was still a bit too easy. Is there going to be a harder difficulty than that?

  • PS5 news? I hope we get GoT: Remastered. How is the game going to perform on PS5?

  • Awesome game. Please in version 1.11 add an unlock framerate option. So when PS5 comes out it can instantly take advantage of this. I hope you do something else next but then come back to do a sequel to Ghost of Tsushima after that. It would be such a waste after all the work that went into studying the culture and era, to not make another game in this setting but it would look insane 3 or 4 more years down the line.

  • You guys and Bend Studio (Days Gone) are bringing post release support to a whole other level!!

THANK YOU for listening to the fans and adding stuff in like NG+!!

  • Been holding out on my second Kurosawa run for this NG+ update 😍

  • You guys/gals are the best. I look forward to playing this. One of my favorite games of this generation.

  • Well smack my backside and call me Ishmael. The greatest game of 2020 just got that much better. Plus..spirit dogs we can pet!!

  • I’ve been holding off purchasing the game as I don’t want to get stung by PS5 exclusive upgrades that won’t be free. Any chance of an update on this?

Will there be an upgrade? Will it be free? When can we expect it?

  • I will be very disappointed if you didn’t do like Resident Evil 3’s MP and make all the Legends trophies it’s own completely seperate master list. With the way it’s worded it sounds tied to the main games list as dlc, just like ng+.

    • Is that the only thing you care about in life? Trophies? Life is much bigger then that.
It’s sad when I see people like you care too much about stupid trophies.
You know that they have 0 value in life right? if you get 100000 platinums you will get 0$ from them.
Please stop complaining about trophies I am sick of it.
      No offense to you sorry.

  • WOW really one of the best free Updates I Have ever seen in A video game honestly.
    Great job Sucker Punch thanks.
One of the few developers that still have Honor 👍😊

  • Welp, I know how I’m spending my birthday.

  • Oh, I can’t wait to play Ghost of Tsushima once again! I’m gonna have a hell of a time!

  • Will 4 player multiplayer allow open world free roam?

  • This looks awesome! Any news on a PS5 version?

  • Please add an option for gore kills with arms/legs decapitations based on where you strike the body and an option to sheathe sword double swords

  • Thank you for all this. PLEASE give us a 60fps option on PS5.

  • I have “A Lot” of games of all sorts and types.. So trust me I know a great game, when I see it and mostly important when play it.. And easily out of all of my games #”GHOST OF TSUSHIMA”easily goes to my “TOP THREE” of all times… For fantastic visuals, a truly immersive and in depth story and last but not least? Stellar and truly epic gameplay… And that’s saying “A LOT” coming from me being that I have such an extensive catalog.. From the PS 1, 2, 3 and 4 and soon to be 5.. To me The Ghost is in the talks and sitting at the table with Grand Theft and Red Dead.. And the reason why I mentioned Rockstar is because the fact is they are the Giants / Kings and Queens of this whole gaming industry.. Whether any one wants to believe it or not true gamers all know.. Add up all time sells and hype alone and Rockstar is at the top easily.. Because of there flawless visuals and fantastic story telling.. So im very impressed with sucker punch.. And the moves they are making going forward.. Second son and first light where great games.. But Ghost of Tsushima is on another level.. Almost to the point of reaching perfection.. As of Rockstar reaches for and almost gets every time.. Great job to the Devs and for the great art designer and the lead of there Tsushima team now.. Great job you deserved the raise and your new position in the company.. Great hopes for the future, having this new team lead.. It’s no where to go but up and I mean straight up.. Thanks again for giving the world such a great game.. This is one game ill be playing until all servers shut down on “GHOST OF TSUSHIMA sometime in 2030 ijs lol.. Peace to my friends, fellow gamers and the whole gaming community.

  • This is more a question, ¿I can buy ghost of tsushima phissicaly for ps5?

  • Might be a pipe dream, but, are those 2-player story missions COUCH co-op, or just online?

  • Amazing!! Thank you SP, picked up this game a little late and couldn’t stop until I 100%’d it… Keep it up! This title is amazing!!!

  • Like in Destiny you should be able to have random pairing for people who want to do a raid, but don’t have enough “friends”- or who don’t have friends who play the game!

  • Great news for a great game, thank you SIE and thank you Sucker Punch.

  • WOW i was just thinking today that I hope that Legends is out soon and to know we are less than 2 weeks away for it is brilliant. I think that Ghosts of Tsushima must be a contender for GOTY such an amazing game. Really looking forward to getting to grips with Legends and also NG+ very happy to have my platinum already.

  • Thank you! You guys are great! I can’t wait to play this.

  • Loadouts is great, wish we had it from the beginning.
    Can you play Legends solo?

  • 1st I’ve been schooling for gaming director and from my perspective you guys did an awesome job. Storyline, graphics, growth, controls, and exploration were all great.
2nd I am a big 100% guy. But I am stoked your adding a new + mode with new trophies. It gives me even mote things I can find, explore, complete, etc.
3rd I am also stoked your adding a multi-player mode also with trophies. You’ve done everything right so far, so keep up the good work. Looking forward not only to the release date and the experience, but the next one i’m sure your working on. God Bless you all and Thank You.
