Genshin Impact hits PS4 September 28, bonuses for pre-orders and PS players detailed

MiHoYo shares details on its open-world adventure ahead of next month’s launch.

Hello once again everyone! This is Zhenzhong (ZZ for short) from miHoYo and I’m super excited to be back with another announcement regarding the release of our latest open-world action RPG, Genshin Impact. Thanks to the support of our dedicated community and the continuous hard work of our development team, we’re thrilled to officially confirm that Genshin Impact will be launching for PS4 worldwide on September 28!

A world waiting to be explored

In Genshin Impact, you play as a mysterious being known as the Traveler. After you are suddenly separated from your sibling, you find yourself stripped of your former powers and helplessly stranded in a new unfamiliar world. You have arrived in Teyvat — a fantasy world where the seven elements flow and converge. But you are not alone. Here you will embark on an epic journey to find your lost sibling and unravel the many mysteries of this world, meeting a host of faithful companions along the way as well as powerful enemies who seek to challenge your quest.

This vast open world is yours to explore as you travel to new cities, unlock elemental powers, and uncover the ancient secrets of Teyvat through an immersive story-driven campaign. Whether you revel in completing side quests brimming with lore, challenging dungeons packed with hordes of intimidating enemies, or simply like interacting with your party of unique and fully-voiced characters, Genshin Impact will be a one of a kind adventure with something for everyone to enjoy. We hope that the amazing world of Teyvat will soon become a place full of meaningful stories and memories for you just as it has for us.

A journey in the making

Our own adventure with Genshin Impact first began over three and a half years ago, and the game’s development has certainly been a journey of its own. Our talented and diverse team of developers here have overcome numerous technical obstacles along the way, whether it was meeting the demands of Genshin Impact’s massive open world, or polishing the mechanics of its fast-paced elemental combat systems. Given that this is miHoYo’s first release on the PlayStation, we wanted to take this as an opportunity to showcase our vision on PS4’s hardware.

Exclusive PlayStation bonuses* – Fight and fly in style

To celebrate the release of Genshin Impact on the PS4, we will have some special bonuses for PlayStation players during the game’s launch. PS4 players will have the chance to get the exclusive Sword of Descension and Wings of Descension, as well as more bonuses coming in the future.

The Sword of Descension is an impressive weapon that will prove quite handy at the outset of your adventure. It not only has a chance of dealing additional damage to nearby opponents but also grants a considerable increase to attack damage when equipped on the Traveler, making it the perfect choice for dealing with any pesky enemies you may encounter early on.

The second item is the Wings of Descension, an exclusive stylized wind glider. Your trusty wind glider will help you travel quickly over adverse enemies and terrain, and will allow you to safely navigate heights that would be otherwise impossible. The limited Wings of Descension glider style will be exclusively available to travelers on the PS4.

Cut down challenging foes and soar through the celestial heights — in style!

To find out more about unlocking these bonuses, be sure to log in to Genshin Impact at launch, where you will find all the related details.

Limited pre-order bundle now available – the Adventurer’s Starter Bundle

Finally, in preparation for the launch of Genshin Impact, we have assembled the Adventurer’s Starter Bundle, an exclusive pre-order bundle that includes everything you need to get your journey started on the right foot. But as they say, time is of the essence, and this special bundle will only be available for a limited time. So pack your bags, don your adventurer’s cap, and be sure to pre-order before September 28.

We look forward to seeing all of you in Teyvat!

  • Looking forward to this ^_^

  • I did expect this game to be $10 dollars

  • Now that’s what I’m talking about! So excited to play it.

  • When will the preorder be up on the NA PS Store?

  • Is the game free to play?

  • why is this for free? whats the catch?

  • Free2Play? Limited pre-order bundle? Maybe we need some clarification about that stuff.

    • It will be F2P, the $9.99 preorder are only bonus items for beginners it’s optional

    • They have a game already on mobile and PC called Honkai Impact that’s f2p and in the same universe to this if you want to see how that model works. Basically there’s an increasing roster of characters and weapons that get added to the lottery pull. Many you can earn via gameplay but sometimes doing so is overly tedious. You can usually also earn in game currency via grinding as well, but it is tedious as well.

I play it as a completely free player and I have a decent number of characters but certain ones are sometimes limited time only and only in the gacha.
They also usually have cosmetics available as well for ingame currency.

That being said, even playing with just the starter character is a fun experience and the gameplay is solid.
I plan to pick up Genshin as well with the mindset of not putting any money into it and expect to have a decent amount of fun with it

    • Thanks for the answers. Got the preorder pack already!

  • Will the game have shared progress? Like if you were to join another players game, would you be able to keep all the loot you find and progress the story together? Or is there really no incentive for joining another players game?

Also, it’s coming out on mobile too, would I be able to continue my story on mobile and other platforms?

  • I’ve been looking forward to this until I realized it was F2P and in-game purchase heavy. Will in-game purchases be purely cosmetic? Seems like this might be copying Battlefront 2’s mistakes.

    • All new characters come from paying for random boxes. There’s a lot of game to explore for free, it’s up to you how much you want to spend trying to find best waifu.

    • Not comparable at all with Battlefront 2, which was a full price game. Here we are talking about a FP2 game, of course it’s going to have MTX, devs are not working for free. F2P is a great business model, we’ll just have to see how it’s handled in that game, hoping it’s not too intrusive.

    • Locking everything behind a pay wall is not a good business model, full priced or F2P. Micro transaction should not be how developers get paid, like any artist they should be paid in full for their full work. F2P thrives on random cash grab simply because gamers have no investment commitment. It’s easier to day, “I can spend $30 on a character since I got this for ‘free'” and then buying in the same mentality over and over again.

    • What the heck did I manage to do with that last comment?

    • Apparently, last time I copied my reply to someone else I accidentally copied the whole page somehow so posting again so you don’t need to parse all that

  • Earlier than expected, LOVED the beta, pre-order is £8.99 on UK PS Store (and the extra boost items are helpful I guess but I just wanted to throw money at miHoYo to say thank you). Probably the best FREE game ever released on a PS console (although Warframe is pretty excellent too).

  • Will there be crossplay and cross save with other versions, aka mobile

  • Really looking forward to play with my friends. You guys have done an amazing job, thanks for the hard work !

  • Looking forward to playing this game. Have been following it for awhile now. Ready for September 28th!

  • Please keep support for this game. I’ll give you my money.

  • Just a question: this game have something censored?

  • Man this F2P model has really dropped my excitement for this game.

    • Same my dude. I can see the microtransactions going insane.

    • I’ve played Honkai, and their Gacha mechanic isn’t horrible at all! Honestly, a F2P has to make some money, otherwise, how are they going to make new content? Are they truly going to make it out of the goodness of their hearts?

  • Been waiting for a long, long time, getting this for PS4 and mobile.

  • Will the game be upgraded to PS5? What improvements can we expect? Higher polygon count? Higher framerate?

  • Does the game runs at 4K? What framerate? HDR?

  • Honestly one of the best Hit Anime Action RPG’s of the decade fella’s! prepare for some REAL kickass fun action in this amazing masterpiece of a game!!! get ready to start this Fall with a HUGE BANG!!!

  • F2P on console seems to be a different beast than on mobile. You tend to get a lot more game on console.

Phantasy Star Online 2 is F2P and is fantastic. It has convinced me to buy the optional purchases.

So I’ll give this one a shot.

  • Why is it free? Is the story going to be limited and released monthly or something? I’d prefer paying the usual 60$ for a full game with all the characters in a console game.

  • I’ve been debating picking up the Playstation version for the extra stuff.. But I just learned that cross save will not be enabled on Playstation like it is on the other platforms.

That’s really disappointing.. So I can play on pc at home and keep playing on mobile when I’m out, but on Playstation it’s locked to my console. It would have been nice to have the option to log in on mobile to grind out a bit when needed. Not digging the cross save restrictions, and the fact that it’s only Playstation that’s left out tells me this is a Sony thing. Please reconsider so I can take advantage of all the cool features of this game.

  • I didn’t know it was free to play. AND on mobile. My cautiousness increases.

  • Nice, hopefully a Platinum Trophy that isn’t too grindy.

  • In the PSN store it says that there is a one-time license fee. Is that different from the $9.99 pre order bundle? And how much?
