Get Ready to Grind into Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2

The legendary skateboarding games return on September 4, remastered by Activision and developer Vicarious Visions.

Ready to shred again? The original birdman Tony Hawk and Vicarious Visions, the studio behind the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, have come together to bring back Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2, radically remastered for PlayStation 4. Dropping in this September 4, Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 and 2 is all about bringing back the original levels, skaters, tricks, modes, and songs from the iconic soundtrack, as well as amping up the experience with new ways to play including online multiplayer.

As you can see from the comparison screenshots, there have been an incredible number of improvements to the remastered game. Released on the original PlayStation back in August 1999, the series’ first title helped lead the way in the gaming industry’s shift to 3D gameplay. This was thanks to Sony’s advancements in geometry technology with PlayStation, and the original Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater set the standard for the genre.

“It was incredible to play the original games on PlayStation back in 1999 and to see the overwhelming response from the PlayStation community, so I’m excited to bring the game back to all the hardcore THPS fans on PlayStation again this year.” said the legend himself, Tony Hawk. But what’s in store for this ground-breaking remaster?

Here’s the 411 on 1 and 2:

Same Tony, New Tricks

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 and 2

Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 and 2 will feature the full original roster of pro skaters from the turn of the 21st century. That includes Steve Caballero, Geoff Rowley, Bucky Lasek, Elissa Steamer, Kareem Campbell, Andrew Reynolds, Bob Burnquist, Eric Koston, Rodney Mullen, Jamie Thomas, Rune Glifberg, Chad Muska… and of course, Tony Hawk.

These skaters all come with their own Special Moves – from Geoff Rowley’s Darkside Grind to Tony Hawk’s legendary 900 – and have learned a few new tricks over the past two decades, including the Revert, Lip Tricks, and the Wall Plant, allowing you to pull off incredible combos like never before.

The remaster will also feature all the original levels from the first two games in the franchise, from the Warehouse to The Bullring. Those levels can be played solo with goals old and new, with a buddy for local co-op, or online with original multiplayer game modes. All of this will be presented in stunning 4K resolution* with updated and enhanced graphics, running at a frame rate crisper than a perfect 50-50 grind: 60 FPS.

Let’s not forget the tunes, either: Remember the iconic soundtrack of the original game, made possible thanks to the PlayStation’s shift to high-fidelity CD audio? Many of the unforgettable songs from the original games are back to help amp you up while you go for that Sick Score.

  • 60 fps?
    Take. My. Money.

  • Sounds awesome, but two important questions: I assume with the Creator skater you can create a female skater, and two, are the cheat codes from the original games included?

    • ….bruh

    • Didn’t the original have female skaters available in create-a-skater? And, regarding cheats – yes please. I loved those games so much as a kid because you could turn on perfect balance and just go crazy!

  • A lot of time need to wait 🤐😖

  • Where is the pre order?

  • toma todo mi dinero por este juego¡¡ , me imagino que luego llegara el tony hawk pro skater 3

  • Can you tell us the official date it will be up for preorder? I want to try that demo!

  • Woah… I was literally thinking of the og thps a few days ago and how awesome it’d be to play a remaster. Sweet! Hopefully it’s not broken when it comes out.

  • This WOULD interest me but I remember the Tony Hawk HD remaster on PS3. Also 40 bucks? Lol

    • Are you really complaining about two FULL games at 60fps with tons of extra content and fully redone graphics for 40? Be lucky it’s not 60

    • Weve gotten remastered games that are newer and much better graphics for less. I mean how much does the resident evil 1 remake cost?

    • No we have not got remakes with better graphics for less, that resident evil 1 remake was literally a remake for Nintendo game cube upscaled to 1080p, it does not have better graphics, this is literally a full blown remaster at 4k 60fps, you can’t name one full blown remake on ps4 that was cheaper at launch, get out of here

  • I assume you will be able to play this game on PlayStation 5? That way I can play at 4K locked 60fps.

I’m excited to see Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 & 2 being remastered. I guess Tony Hawk HD or Tony Hawk Pro Skater 5 wasn’t the true upgrade to high end graphics?

I’m all for supporting Tony Hawk and his foundation. It goes to the best cause. Which is to build new skate parks for kid’s to learn to skateboard as well as be a kid and enjoy life and make life long friends. And most importantly to stay out of trouble.

I started skateboarding when I was around 16 year’s old (late to skateboarding 😢) around the year 2000 which is when skateboarding started to get really popular. I remember playing THPS on my PlayStation 1 back in the day. The best of both worlds real life skateboarding to learn how to Ollie or landing that first kickflip was the best.

My friend’s would skateboard tell our legs hurt then go inside and skateboard our fingers off in THPS tell it was time to go to bed or go home to eat.

I’m currently 35 and still support skateboarding even though I’m not as physically fit as I was at 16 but I can enjoy the rush on my board and the wind in my hair and smiling from ear to ear. There’s something special being able to manual down the sidewalk and going as far as you can.

Thank you Tony for all you do. I appreciate it even though I never got to meet you in person or enjoy any of your skate parks yet I love all that you do. Keep shredding on your board and enjoy your life with your wonderful family. 🤘🏻😎🤘🏻🛹

Love reading your story man. Keep on having the same spirit when u where 16. I wish I could of skate when I was younger sadly was to broke to even afford a decent skateboard . But this remaster game is gonna be worth it all the memories but in 4k now

  • Gimme that sweet sweet pre-order link goodness. I am so in to this.

  • I cant wait! the pre order needs to drop ASAP. I something to play while stuck in the house!

  • Great and unexpected news…have a lot of great memories with Tony 2 damn this is a must-buy,good job y’all.

Used to play Tony games like hell until after Underground 2 which is when they went downhill.Btw there’s a Tony game named Downhill right?…lol.Anyway I heard Tony 5 was a sort of a flop…I dunno, haven’t played it but it’s always nice to see a game that seemed to be dead come back to life even if it’s only the old ones in current tech.

  • This is exciting news! I have faith that this project is in good hands with Vicarious Visions taking on development duties. The video looks great, and it’s great to see they’ve added some of the features from the later games. I’m ready to get on board…on a SKATEBOARD!

  • I hope the series is here to stay!

  • I’m ready to pre-order right MEOW!!! All of our childhoods just came back! I wish it was dropping sooner than September.

  • thank the lord that robomodo isn’t involved lol. I trust these games will be very well received.

  • $50 for a thps remaster?! Hold my beer…

  • Tony hawk sounds great but why hasn’t ps4 picked up skate or made any new decent skate games compared to skate Tony hawk is lacking

  • This game is going to sell like crazy. I’m already getting the sense from the few comments out so far that all of us old fogies that played the originals as kids are going to jump all over this just for the nostalgic value. Took them long enough to figure that out. I just gave in and treated myself to a PS4 with my stimulus check and I can’t stop playing GTA Vice City (I’m 44, so do the math). I haven’t played a Playstation since the PS2 days and they can re-release any popular game from back in day and us old farts will buy it! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

  • I am going to throw my money at this collection. If they would do the same with thug and thug2 I would do the same. I’ve loved all these games since I was 6.

  • I’m so glad that i have a job so i am able to buy my most anticipated games and tony hawk is one of meny

  • Awesome!

  • I hope everyone at PlayStation knows that people are angrily switching to other systems simply to play this game. You are dropping the ball. Release the pre-order.

  • can’t wait to re-live those days of skating

  • Does it come with extra controllers?
Many a controller lost its life over this game at my house🤘🏼.

  • Can I use the skateboard controller still????

  • When will we get the skate series 😢

  • When will it be available for preorder in the playstation store
