Side-Scrolling Cartoon Shoot ’em Up Freedom Finger Arrives Tomorrow on PS4

The music-driven shooter brings new levels and original music by Aesop Rock to its enhanced PS4 edition.

Hey gang! Jim from Wide Right Interactive here. Before I dive in, I need to ask you a very serious question. Have you ever wanted to fly across the universe in a spaceship shaped like a hand, blasting music, and destroying everything in sight? If you said “YES!” or are generally intrigued, read on. I’d love to tell you why you should check out Freedom Finger, a crazy cartoon shooter, when it launches tomorrow, March 24!

Freedom Finger is a music-driven, side-scrolling shooter that sends you shooting and punching through 40 levels of action. It features the superb voice talents of Nolan North (Uncharted), John DiMaggio (Futurama, Adventure Time), Sam Riegel (Critical Role), and Eric Bauza (Rick & Morty).

On the music side of things, we have original music by Aesop Rock and over 30 licensed tracks from Red Fang, METZ, Power Trip, Com Truise, Ty Segall, Makeup and Vanity Set, Drab Majesty, Danimal Cannon, and more.

So yeah, that’s a lot of bands and voice over dudes, but what about the gameplay? Freedom Finger combines the fast-paced shootouts of side-scrolling shooters and forges it with the melee combat of beat ‘em ups.

Since your aforementioned spaceship is shaped like a hand, it has the ability to shoot, punch, and grab enemies. Shooting (from the middle finger, of course) inflects damage via laser cannon. Punching takes it a step further, allowing you to stack damage and deliver a devastating uppercut combo.

Grabbing lets you capture the enemy and use their guns as your weapon. This is how you gain access to power-ups and alternative weaponry. Throwing the captured enemies turns them into a projectile. Time your toss correctly and you’ll knock out incoming enemies and rack up some serious points! It also looks pretty cool.

Speaking of looks, everything in Freedom Finger was hand-drawn by artist Travis Millard. And when I say everything, I mean it. At last count we had well over 2,000 individually hand-drawn assets.

This artwork plays a big role in bringing Freedom Finger’s story to life. The story is told through fully animated cutscenes, over 70 total, which together span over an hour of content. Highly satirical and over-the-top, the story features branching paths and multiple endings. Not a fan of story in your game? No problem. Head to arcade mode where all 40 levels are unlocked and fully playable from the start. Not a cutscene or plot point in sight!

When it comes to the levels, each one is driven by a unique music track. These tracks drive the pace and influence the timing and movement of enemies. For example, a level featuring the synthwave beats of Com Truise might move a bit slower, making each enemy attack more deliberate and calculated.

On the other hand, a level featuring music by thrash metal band Power Trip would be cranked up to 11. Lots of enemies, bullets, and mayhem. The variety within the soundtrack allows us to create an experience that will keep you on your toes level-to-level.

We wanted to make the PS4 version of Freedom Finger even better, so we’ve added three new levels featuring original music by legendary hip-hop artist, Aesop Rock!

We know players have a ton of great choices when it comes to gaming on PS4, so we wanted to absolutely pack Freedom Finger full of great music, hand crafted art, top-notch voice talent, and a lot of laughs.

Freedom Finger launches tomorrow on PS4. We hope you’ll join us as we fly across the universe in a spaceship shaped like a hand, blasting music and punching everything in sight!
