Eight strangers must work together to battle dangerous foes in their quest to save humanity’s last hope: Dr Margaret Blythe, set to release in Q2 2020.
1971 Project Helios is a turn-based strategy game which combines modern warfare military tactics and close combat. Firearms and vehicles are scarce, conflicts and hostilities have no end, and the terrible freezing cold annihilates friends and foes in its path.
An Earth gripped by a new ice age
In 1942, the world froze relentlessly. There was no sunlight anymore. No food. No heat. The story of this game takes place in 1971, when extreme temperatures and violent storms were part of daily life.
The only resource to survive came from the sky… they called it: Fulgor. Those who lived had to find this resource, a bright red substance that can be used for multiple purposes, and it became the basis for survival.
When the cataclysm began, there was a large-scale war. A new society was born from the remains of the armies and intelligence services that, until then, were fighting each other. Calling themselves Wintersöhne (Sons of the Winter), they successfully researched for practical uses of Fulgor, focusing on military purposes.
Another new society got empowered at the same time. Out of the ashes of devastation, a new ultra-religious cult was born. These people saw the Cataclysm as a punishment for humanity, and Fulgor as a deity. They rejected technology, and embraced Fulgor as the nuclei of their lives. The mysterious rite of Initiation in this cult was called “The Ecstasy of the Flame”… Few are those who survived it, and fewer are those who also kept their sanity to tell how it works.
For years, these two factions fought for new territories and for the control of Fulgor reserves. Both faced the scavengers from the so called No-Man’s Land, the Free Cities and each other.
A quest that unites eight strangers
Among all this instability, eight people – each one with its own problems and interests – join in a sort of temporary alliance, to find one particular person: Dr. Margaret Blythe. She is the scientist in charge of the Project Helios, an investigation which might be humanity’s last hope. However, not every one of this eight characters want her to go back to her research…
Will they find her? Save her? Whose interests will prevail? The resolution of this quest and its consequences depend on you – the player. Your strategy when choosing your preferred units for each mission and your personal decisions will guide this characters – and maybe this world – right to one of three possible endings.
