House House's surprise hit waddled into first place -- and our hearts.
Honk!* Everyone’s favorite nameless waterfowl nicked enough votes to claim victory in December’s Players’ Choice poll, followed by Arise: A Simple Story, Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey, and Wattam.
*That’s goose for “Thanks for your patience. This edition of Players’ Choice is a little behind as we return from the holiday break and kick off 2020. Let us know if you have any predictions for January’s list!
Welcome to 2020! We’re kicking things off this year with a slightly late Players’ Choice poll for the final month of the last decade. A bit of a slower month, but not without its stars: Untitled Goose Game was a hoot (a honk?) at holiday parties worldwide, Arise: A Simple Story wove a beautiful tale of life and death, and Wattam brought back the trademark weirdness expected of any Keita Takahashi game.
Let us know who you’re voting for in the comments — and tell us which backlog games you cleared out over the break!
What is the voting criteria? That’s up to you! If you were only able to recommend one new release to a friend that month, which would it be? In keeping with our long tradition in the Game of the Year Awards, remastered or re-released games won’t qualify. Ambitious, larger-scale rebuilds and remakes like Shadow of the Colossus and Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy will.
How are nominees decided? The PlayStation.Blog and PlayStation Store editorial teams will gather a list of that month’s most noteworthy releases and use it to seed the poll. Write-in votes will be accepted.
Arise: A Simple Story is getting my vote. Such a well told tale. Highly recommend everyone play it. It’s great to play in co-op too. Goose Game and Wattam would be my runner up picks.
Appreciate the recommendation on Arise and the note about it supporting co-op play. Will look it up.
WATTAM!!
That game made me laugh consistently until the end – and then I cried. ❤️❤️
Arise A Simple Story is beautiful, emotional game, one which will make you cry. Soundtrack is also memorable. Highly recomend it.
Wattam!
Untitled Goose, just cause you play as a cute goose. I haven’t played Arise yet, brought the pre-order.
Avicii Invector
Untitled Goose
None of them…cause never heard of them or see the clip trailers of them…
The ones that should be on board to be voted is
Destiny 2
Death Stranding
Apex
Resident Evil 2 remake
Days gone
Etc.
I think you missed the part in the title that says “December’s Best New Game”
Well how about SSX Tricky and MGS1 Etc.
My vote went to Arise: A simple story. Only problem with the game was the camera angles and missing some of the jumps because of them but it isn’t to big of a deal because there are plenty of checkpoints.
I’ve been playing Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey since August (on PC). That’s a really cool game: a mix of simulation, adventure, action-adventure and survival games.
Ancestors: The Human Odyssey—albeit a niche title—was an engaging game that broke away from the typical formula of what’s out there today.
