The Drop: New PlayStation Games for October 15, 2019

Explore a vast universe, throw a Jackbox party, or investigate the mysterious disappearance of a merchant ship.

Next week’s got something for everyone — especially if you’re interested in outer space exploration, madcap party game compilations, or lo-fi mystery-solvin’.

Outer Wilds makes the jump to PS4, offering a mysterious universe for players to explore in 22-minute loops. I’m trying to go into this one as blind as possible so forgive me if this intro isn’t as descriptive as I usually write them.

I think it’s safe to say the Jackbox Party Pack compilations have achieved “legendary” status at this point, right? I’m rolling with it. The legendary Jackbox Party Pack series returns with its sixth set of party games, including Trivia Murder Party 2, the excellently named Dictionarium, and a whole bunch more.

Finally, Return of the Obra Dinn puts PS4 players in the boots of an insurance investigator (stay with me) equipped with a time-altering device assigned the unenviable task of finding out just what happened to the crew of the titular ship.

For a full list of new games coming to PlayStation next week, read on. And enjoy The Drop!

  • HELL YA!
    No More Heroes!
    Put Killer 7 on PS4!

    • My pre-order for Children of Morta is already in.

It’s going to be a great month of gaming for me.

Got Concrete Genie and loving it

Children of Morta on the 15th

      MediEvil on the 25th

      Death Stranding Nov 8th

      Then Valfaris hits console.

  • Sometimes i imagine there’s a subreddit, or a discord, maybe an old-school message board where thousands of rabid fans are debating the merits and comparing the features, plusses and minuses, every nuance of each entry in these vast catalogs of fishing games on the PS4 in minute detail, and then i pray that i never accidentally come across it or anyone who uses it.

  • I’ve got four “maybes” for next week: Driven Out, Outer Wilds, Return of the Obra Dinn, and Stranded Sails. I was disappointed with something I picked up this week, so I’ll be looking for reviews or comments on the games this time around.

    • What were you disappointed by? The good thing about Obra Dinn and Outer Wilds is there are already reviews out on other platforms.

    • Was it that Lovetimes You visual novel?

    • @Mercenary09, it was A Knight’s Quest. It has ok platforming, but the world building is naff. It’s not enough to stop me from taking chances on indie titles, but it does make me a bit more cautious.

    • @dave Ah yeah I actually reviewed that one. Yeah when it’s an indie game like that priced at $25 it’s best to wait to at least see what some reviews or videos say about it.

  • Been waiting since August for Ninja Warriors/Saviors. About freaking time.

  • Battle For Neighborville!!

  • I was under the impression that the CRPG collections, Baldurs Gate, Planescape Torment etc were launching this week. Anyone know anything about that?

    • Last I saw they still are. Review keys have even gone out. I’m thinking they just left them off. They forgot GRID in last week’s Drop post as well.

  • Waiting for my copy of Monkey king on weekend.

  • Dear makers of this fine weekly list.

Please please please update the format to include videos or video links for each game. Your loyal, and slightly lazier readers such as myself, want to see these games in action and HATE copying and pasting each damned name into YouTube.

    Sincerely everyone!

    • Ive been trying for years. THEY DONT CARE. They wont even put a link to the store. No doubt so many great games get missed.

    • Some of these games aren’t live on the store yet when this article publishes so I think that is why they don’t.

  • Are the Planescape/Icewind Dale & Baldur’s Gate Enhanced Editions still scheduled for Tuesday, the 15th? They got delayed from September, & now not seeing them listed has me wondering.

    • Likely just forgot them like they forgot GRID last week. They are still coming out. Review keys even went out this past week.

  • You made us wait for Ninja Saviors for SO LONG in Canada/The US, wouldn’t even let us pre-order it. Now it is FINALLY up on the store, but there’s still no price and I can’t even buy it. This is what I hate about digital storefronts…only select items are available for pre-order and we don’t even really know what the price will be until it is out. And because I’m in Canada there’s always the added sticker shock of the exchange rate… just let me buy the darn game already!!!

  • I think I’ll try Outer Wilds and Plants vs Zombies!

  • hi
