Marvel’s Spider-Man: Game of the Year Edition Available Today

Swing into action with the complete Marvel’s Spider-Man package.

We feel privileged to be repeating the same thing over and over again – thank you for all of your amazing support of Insomniac Games and Marvel’s Spider-Man since the web-slinger landed on the PlayStation 4 system. We’re a little over a week away from the game’s one-year anniversary on September 7th! We’ll be looking back at 2018 over the next few weeks – but we wanted to kick off the anniversary celebration with a loud THWIP.

It seems crazy that just about a year ago people hadn’t yet had a chance to swing around Marvel’s New York. We’ll always remember that first E3 in 2016, when our teaser trailer surprised fans that we had teamed up with Sony Interactive Entertainment and Marvel Games to put our own spin on one of the most famous fictional characters of all-time. From working to nail web-swinging and acrobatic Spidey combat, to imagining a brand-new Spider-Man universe and storyline, and getting to build our own version of Marvel’s New York – it’s been a wild ride for all of us here.

With that – we’re pleased to introduce the Marvel’s Spider-Man: Game of the Year Edition. We remain deeply humbled by the incredible critical response to the game last year and during awards season.

You might be asking – what’s in the Game of the Year Edition? You’ll find the full game, as well as a voucher for the entire Marvel’s Spider-Man: The City That Never Sleeps DLC – a three-chapter narrative to the game that tells its own spectacular, post-game story. We’ve been blown away by your response to Marvel’s Spider-Man: The City That Never Sleeps and we’re excited the Game of the Year Edition will expose it to even more players. It’s a great value, as you get the full game and all three story chapters of Marvel’s Spider-Man: The City That Never Sleeps for just $39.99 USD MSRP. You can buy it today at PlayStation Store or at your favorite local gaming retailer. Already have the base game? You can still get Marvel’s Spider-Man: The City That Never Sleeps on PlayStation Store for just $24.99 USD MSRP.

We’re honored to mark the one-year anniversary of the game with this new Game of the Year Edition. We hope that some of you who maybe haven’t had the chance to experience Marvel’s Spider-Man can now swing into all of the amazing Spidey action with the complete package.

  • wish the dlc was on the disc and not in a 1 time use voucher.

  • That DLC price is crazy. I’m surprised the price is even mentioned in this article. Knowing the GotY edition is $40, makes $25 for the DLC seem completely unreasonable.

    • DLC is great, though. It adds at least 10 hours of story content.

    • The DLC is actually 3 separate DLC chapters, each is like 9.99 on their own, so 24.99 is technically a deal.

Showing the DLC price just makes the GotY edition look better.

  • Offer a sale on the DLC to 14.99 and I’ll buy it right now.

  • Can’t wait for the sequel!

    • I cant even imagine the improvements made by next gen. I wonder how long we have to wait tho. I feel like mayne 2022?

  • will there be extra missions and side quests in the GOTY editon?

  • That’s a good deal!

  • “just $24.99 USD”

    • This is no different than the digital deluxe edition that was on sale for $24 for everything a few weeks ago when I bought it. Not sure why a GotY edition doesn’t include something more than a previous edition already included, but oh well.

  • Wish this had come out just a month or so sooner. I bought my nephew Spider-Man after he loved what he played at my place as a gift. Would have been better if I could have got him copy that includes the DLC.

  • Seriously, this hurt me at personal level. Since the launch I’ve waited and entire year for a complete physical release. Now i’ve realised the content is inside a voucher. We want physical games for a reason. For preservation. For their value. To lend the entire game to another person. Because we love having a product not tied to internet connection or services. Do I’ll have to wait to the next generation to buy this great game (like The Last of Us)?

Spiderman sold over 13 million copies and Spider-Man nobody knows what could happen with license in the future. That complete version was well deserved and I feel dissapointed. I guess I won’t enjoy this game then. Very sad not buying this game but somehow expected. With Spyro we had an even worst case.

    • I too waited for this version. (Still haven’t played spiderman) I thought everything would be on the disc like horizon zero dawn complete. Now this makes me worry about the yakuza collection that’s coming out soon . I want to own everything on disc.

    • There’s is not way

    • @The_FastLife the reveal image for the Yakuza Collection shows 2 discs: one containing Yakuza 3 & 4 and another containing Yakuza 5. So we should be good.

Plus Sega has said they plan to lean into physical releases from now on ^_^

  • Skipped Spiderman Standard Physical in expectation of this. Don’t like when DLC is a Voucher.

Hopefully they do not expire till 2099.

  • You guys know why DLC exists right?! You have said it in your own posts. You give it to friends or sell it to which the maker gets no compensation from. DLC is a means for them to get some of that money back so of course they are making it digital.

  • Good to see them releasing the actual full game, though I do agree with those who wanted it all on a physical disc. Really sucks when a “physical” game is partially digital. I’ve really gotten leery of buying some of these games at launch lately when they start putting out DLC immediately, knowing that eventually they’ll do a “this is the actual full game” release and all I need to do is be patient.

    • And usually at a vastly cheaper price than at release, which is what I do for every single player game I want to play.

  • I wish I would’ve waited until this year to get this game my wife bought it for me last year as a Christmas gift and I already have all the dlc to it that’s okay though

  • Some marketing nonsense. You just renamed the deluxe edition, big woop.

  • The one time DLC voucher, it’s just as ethical as when Sony provided one time vouchers for online passes for games towards the end of the PS3 generation. Pretty scummy practices Sony.

  • I also wish it shipped on two discs. Just like red dead redemption 2 did.

  • What’s the point of this if the dlc are still not on the disk? this is just a rebranding of the Deluxe edition with a different cover…

  • Hmm GOTY with the DLC on voucher?
Learn from Guerrilla. I like my Horizon Complete Edition that has The Frozen Wilds on the disc.

  • “…a loud THWIP.” you say; well thanks, I’m here :)

Great game, as a collector, I might double-dip on the Game of the Year Edition, because I’m a Spidey nerd like that :P

  • I have to agree with the disappointment on the DLC only being available digitally via voucher. I collect physical games and would much prefer and appreciate all content on the disc.

  • Why don’t you guys say that the digital version is available now and that the physical version comes out next week on September 4th?

  • 1. dlc for 25 when goty is 40?!? well done sony

    2. goty where dlc is not integrated but a download code?!? well done sony

    well done sony

  • Can’t find this version in Ukraine store.

  • LoL! I purchased the physical copy of the game and later the season pass on PlayStation store. Then gave the physical copy to a friend as a gift. Now I can’t even buy a base game on Store to play because they removed it and replace it with GOTY edition… Asked the support they told me to buy another physical copy of the base game… Really? Did anyone encounter this kind of situation?

  • Like others have said the whole reason I waited to buy was to have the complete game on disc. This voucher bs really kills my enthusiasm for the game. Might just wait another year when it goes down to $20.
