Sir Daniel Fortesque returns in a PS4 remake of the creepy classic this fall.

Citizens of Gallowmere, rejoice! Sir Daniel Fortesque, the legendary knight with the toothy grin makes his return to the land of the living (and dead) when MediEvil launches on PS4 October 25, 2019!

Take a look at our new story trailer, revealed during today’s State of Play, to get an updated glimpse at what awaits you this Halloween.

Whether you’re avoiding the boulder-spitting gargoyles of the Hilltop Mausoleum, outrunning the menacing famers of the Scarecrow Fields, or fending off giant worker ants in the Ant Caves, Sir Dan’s certainly got his work cut out for him.

But fear not! Although the journey will bring you face to face with hordes of unspeakable enemies, a whole host of heroes will be there to help guide you on your way and provide Sir Dan with an ever-expanding repertoire of weapons and shields to aid him in his quest. Everything from enchanted swords to gigantic hammers, crossbows, throwing knives and axes are at your disposal, but you’ll need to use them wisely, lest you lose your head. (Again.)

And make no bones about it, even if you’re familiar with Dan’s first outing, everything you remember (and a lot that you don’t!) is back in ways that will make your head spin. In addition to a complete graphical overhaul, an improved camera system, and a brand-new narrator (brought to life by veteran voice actress Lani Minella) we’re adding a whole casket full of secrets to this PlayStation classic that we can’t wait for you to dig up.

We’ll scare up some more details for you leading up to launch, but in the meantime, feel free to crawl on over to PlayStation Store and preorder the game!

  • Can’t wait for the game! But please clear this up, will there be physical edition of the game?

    • Absolutely there will! That’s the box art at the top of the post!

      Thanks for your support!

    • @Nick Accordino – I know a physical edition is confirmed, but will there be any sort of Deluxe/Collectors edition that is physical?
I would LOVE to get some physical MediEvil merchandise like an Art Book, Soundtrack, or better yet, a figure/statue of Sir Fortesque!

I’ve already pre-ordered both the Digital Deluxe, as the Standard Physical, and I fully intend to buy any other version of the game, as MediEvil is my all time favorite video game.

  • Goodness!!

How have I missed Sir Daniel, so glad he’s back!!

I truly hope for a Physical Edition!!

  • Can’t wait for this one Nick. Any word on price for it yet or pre-order bonuses?

    • We have an amazing avatar set available for anyone who preorders the game on the PlayStation store. Should be live soon!

  • KinderHickory34

    Can’t wait to play it(hyped)
So when can I pre order it ?

  • Looks amazing! never played the original so it’s basically like a brand new game for me.

  • Looks great, hope there is more quality of life improvements! also please polish that frame rate for release.

  • Thank you so much for releasing this physically!!!! Amazing!

  • From the old days of playing this gem on a demo disc is finally HAPPENING!

    • Thanks actually the way I first played the original too! Thanks a lot for all of the support!

  • Looks Great! Happy to hear that it will be getting a physical release. One question though, will we be able to get the deluxe edition physically?

    • The Deluxe Edition is a PlayStation Store exclusive!

We’re putting a lot of work into those extra goodies, so we hope you check it out!

  • I’m excited, as I never played the original on PS1. Serious question though. Games from the PS1 era like Crash and Spyro were remade as full trilogies. Why is MediEvil 2 not included in this remake? MediEvil does not resonate as much as those and so they want to test the waters first? The number of employees involved in the remake? Another reason?

    • lol Of course there’s no reply for my comment.

    • I know I’m late to this, but it’s likely two factors causing this: First, this is Sony 1st party and not Activision (Activision published the Crash and Spyro remake trilogies with Vicarious Visions and Toys for Bob developing them respectively). Secondly, MediEvil 2 wasn’t received nearly as well as its predecessor back in the day. The first game in the series is the only one to still have the ‘gem’ status.

  • I was really hoping for a collectors edition of some kind. Hopefully something of that sort is still in the works. I’m not much of a statue guy but I’d definitely go for it when it comes to Medievll.

    • I’d love some kind of Collector’s Edition for this. Keep an eye out on the Totaku line though. There is a chance that maybe they’ll do a Sir Dan figure.

  • Btw Nick I also just want to say thanks for interacting in the comments. We don’t get enough of that on the blog and I’ve noticed that any post you make you usually take time to jump in and reply to the fans.

I hope we can see MediEvil 2 brought up to current gen standards one day too.

  • I miss the original narrator honestly, his voice was just so thematic. The new narrator just kind of sounds like they are rambling, without a natural flow or pause.

The overall enemy recreations seem a less spooky / more cartoon like as well. I’m getting a bit nervous about how faithful the recreation is. :/

    • After watching it some more it seems that the narrators dialog was just really chopped and moved about for the trailer, making the pace seem odd.

    • I can promise you it’s a VERY faithful remake.

And we know you’ll love Lani’s performance as our narrator – she absolutely nails it!

  • Can we get some Medievil gear on the store? :)

  • Are we getting a limited edition, somewhere in the line of the Shadow of the Colossus remaster LE’s contents.

  • Will there be any kind of collectors edition or steelbook for the game? I would really like to add this to my collection!

    • There’s a standard edition on Blu Ray as well as a Digital Deluxe Edition with lots of extra goodies! (Soundtrack, Artbook, Gold Super Armor, Dynamic Theme)

Thanks for your support – we hope you enjoy it!

  • GhostOfSparta332

I’m so hyped about “My Childhood” I mean, “MediEvil” coming back to grace my presence once more. Quick question, we’ve seen what digital only buyers obtain through pre order, what’s in store for physical owners such as myself who is eager to know?

  • I’ve noticed quite a bit of the trailer is “over-the-shoulder” perspective. Is this just an aiming thing or does this mean the game can be played that way? If so, that’s awesome!

  • Really happy about the return of Sir Dan
…and also thanks for the physical release! ♥

Many people already asked for a nice collector’s edition (steelbook, soundtrack, artbook etc.) and here is another one ;)

  • Omg i loved this game. I’m so glad is comming back.

  • When will the digital deluxe edition be up for pre-order?

  • SONY INTERACTIVE ENTERTAINMENT you have my utmost gratitude for reviving a game that I have been wanting a chance to replay for around 21 years.

  • Stainglass_Demon

I truly believe that a collectors edition would sell out in minutes, even if it cost $200+ dollars. I would personally buy it!!! This being said, it seems like the digital deluxe edition is the closest things we’re going to get. To be honest I’m going to buy this edition as well as any and all merchandise that Sony releases for this game. The only thing I really want to see and ask of Sony is for Medievil 2 sometime in the next two years.

  • Can’t wait to play it this Fall! by the way i see you cut off the souls animation when Dan kills the zombies right? why is that? I hope is a working progress stuff.

This is my favorite game of all time. I can’t even remember how many times I completed it. Thank you very very much for bringing MediEvil back !! I really hope there will be a collector’s edition please let me know before I place a pre-order

  • just want to say thank you so much! I never thought this game would happen, it is my all time favorite, and im sure among many people to be thier favorite, especially around halloween lol! I hope you guys will make enough to make a third game, and even remake the second game. Wish the deluxe was going to be physical, but thats ok Ill buy both just to have them!

  • I hope we will be able to buy extra levels and armour that weren’t in the original game at least (Lost levels and characters etc)! I’d sell my soul for a longer game! You guys could really do digital content and stretch out sales that way! Please concider!

    • Stainglass_Demon

I would love for the game devs to add the level where you were goin to play as the worm unlocking the door to the asylum, and the level where you were going to have to run from the Jabberwocky!!! these (as well as other lost levels) would definitely make for great downloadable content.

  • I can’t wait to play this! The original MediEvil is one of my favorite games of all time!

Is there any chance of a hard mode? I’ve must have played through the original a dozen times and now there is no challenge left. The bosses go down in a few seconds and I can’t remember what the Game Over screen looks like. I have a feeling this is going to be a very pretty but effortless trip through Gallowmere for me. A new challenge sure would be nice on top of everything else.

Either way, I’m so glad it’s finally back!

Sony Interactive World Wide Studios Entertainment: Nick Accordino: After seeing how well nostalgia titles have been received so far from both old & new fans during this generation, are there any plans for reviving PlayStation iconic series or reprinting the ones that have already gotten a limited physical release.

Would it not be better to reach as many people as possible with various PlayStation iconic titles compilations instead of doing limited runs for said titles? Not to mention that by bringing back older titles could potentially mean more people buy the sequel or are now more interested in the series thus leading to overall more sales.

Imagine how well a PlayStation store within a popular shopping center could be (Memorial Mall or La Galleria in Houston Texas) that now people can buy or even order PlayStation titles that had a limited run or are no longer available anywhere else or simply cost too much to buy from another source .

Like I said I would love to buy the Gravity Rush Remastered on PS4 sadly I cannot afford to pay the asking price of $169 dollars for a physical copy of it while a PlayStation store would be a welcomed surprise for millions of gamers.

    Thank you for your time

  • Will the Medievil Remake have the animated green blood & dismemberments the original T Rated PS1 Version had? Don’t get me wrong! The Remake looks faithful to the original, it just needs to be touched up here and there! The original PS1 Version was slightly Darker and Grittier and even had green blood and colors like black and blue. The sound effects in the original had more of satifying crunch that i find hard to define, even collecting souls for the Chalice sounded and looked way cooler! I find that the Remake has too many ragdoll Physics and should go back to Hacking up zombies and imps to literal pieces with green blood spraying everywhere like in medievil 2 which was rated T for Teen! The Original PS1 Version dosen’t have the best graphics but it has the best aesthetic & sound effects! The Remake just needs a little touching up, if you apply everything i just suggested the remake can actually end up being perfect!

    • Amen! In addition to what you said, my other concern is The Glass Demon… Sure, it looks a million times better than Resurrection’s, but still not up to par with the original.

  • After 21 long and agonizing years! I don’t care for digital, and limited run games (as an idea) is stupid! If there’s no physical deluxe edition, I’m just getting the basic physical edition. I just hope this does well, so I can re-play MediEvil 2 without having to drag out my PS1!

It’s really sad, what the gaming industry has become… “Give us your money, and own nothing. Give us even more of your money, for the second half (as in dlc) of the game. AND, if (insert game here) does well, we’ll do the sequel!”
