Players’ Choice July 2018 Winner: The Persistence

FireSprite's procedurally generated PS VR horror adventure was voted last month's best new game by PlayStation.Blog readers.

Have you yet braved into the horrors of The Persistence? Seems a lot of PlayStation.Blog readers have! FireSprite’s impressive foray into VR earned them enough fans to secure the title of July’s Best New Game, followed by Banner Saga 3 and 20XX. Congratulations!

Thanks to everyone who voted this month — let us know in the comments what your early contenders for August are!

And we’re back! The Players’ Choice polls for July 2018 are officially open, and it’s time for you to help us decide what the month’s best new game was. Don’t dawdle — voting closes Sunday night at 11:59pm Pacific!

How does it work? At the end of every month, PlayStation.Blog will open a poll where you can vote for the best new game released that month. Soon thereafter, we’ll close the polls, tally your votes, and announce the winner at PlayStation.Blog. PlayStation Store will also showcase some top Players’ Choice winners throughout the year.

What is the voting criteria? That’s up to you! If you were only able to recommend one new release to a friend that month, which would it be? In keeping with our long tradition in the Game of the Year Awards, remastered or re-released games won’t qualify. Ambitious, larger-scale rebuilds and remakes like Shadow of the Colossus and Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy will.

How are nominees decided? The PlayStation.Blog and PlayStation Store editorial teams will gather a list of that month’s most noteworthy releases and use it to seed the poll. Write-in votes will be accepted.

  • While there’s quite a few good games in that list I got to go with The Persistence. It’s an amazing PSVR game and the closest thing to a new Dead Space we’re going to probably get.

  • It’s just better

  • Warframe has lot to do, from grinding for new loot to many different enemies better than destiny

  • Voted Chasm. It should be in the list.

  • This is an easy one for me. The Persistence is not only the best PSVR game I’ve played in awhile, it’s also one of the best games I’ve played in awhile in general. So much atmosphere, immersion, and fun.

  • Write in vote for No Man’s Sky.
    Loving it. New to me.

  • I have not played anything on that list, bar Megaman games in a older form.

Super Skull Smash 2 Go Turbo gets my vote.

  • The Persistence is one of the best games I’ve played in a long time. It’s similar to Dead Space, but in many ways unlike anything I’ve ever played. The way multiplayer was incorporated is creative, unique, and is tons of fun. Add VR and 3D audio to the mix, and you get a highly immersive experience that I encourage everyone to try. Just a fantastic game, and should be considered a PSVR system seller along with Farpoint, Resident Evil 7, Wipeout, EVE: Valkyrie – Warzone, Rec Room, and the soon-to-be-released Firewall: Zero Hour.

  • The Persistence is the correct answer! =)

  • What a game Persistence is! I mean the Sound Design is just wow, incredible! And whoever edited that VO, great job to them also!

  • woo hoo Mega Man X Legacy for the win

  • Is this one of the winner gets a discount? If that is the case I’m voting for Persistance since I want to play that game. Blows my mind there isn’t a Dead Space VR game. It would be perfect. Give me a Dead Space, Pokemon, and a Yu-gi-oh game in VR and Socom Confrontation remastered and I can die happy.

  • For me its Remothered, AWESOME horror game, nice style, the best horror game of this period, but all the games are great!

  • MOTHERGUNSHIP is amazingly fun. Got my vote this past month. :)

  • Sony PlayStation! It’s been 18 years since “The legend of dragoon” release. Bring back the dragoon’s! crash, spyro, resident evil 2, all got remade. I evenvstill play tomba.
