Saw Everspace, got super excited. Saw rogue-like, kept scrolling.
Sorry developers. I will keep ignoring Rogue-like gameplay. It was cool 30 years ago when I was a kid, but I like the feeling of true progress in a video game and not permadeath after hard work.
I’ve been doing the same lately. See a game that looks interesting then read “rogue-like”.. pass. I have enough problems in real life without my games giving me grief.
I’ve been playing this for a while on Xbox and can definitely say there are permanent unlocks and even different ships to purchase. I will definitely say that each run will feel like a grind at times.
Eh Rogue-like mechanics are much like any other type of game mechanic. When used well, they enhance the experience,.. when used poorly, they ruin it.
I’ve played a few games with rogue-like elements that I’ve really enjoyed, and others that were just painful. Rogue Legacy and Guided Fate Paradox are two great examples of game that have rogue-like(or more accurately rogue-lite) components, but are still immensely satisfying.
I try not to let any one mechanic decide whether I’m interested in a game, personally.
You should delve deeper into games instead of writing them off so easily. Everspace uses roguelike elements but not used the same way as you experienced 30 years ago. There’s even permanent progression.
Nice to see 4 ps vita game this week!

Rogue-like is equal to in-app purchases to me.
