New Channels, Additional Lineup Change Coming to PlayStation Vue

We have some new updates about PlayStation Vue to share with you today. First, we’re happy to announce the addition of new channels to PlayStation Vue, including BBC America and NBA TV launching tomorrow, as well as VICE and more local broadcast stations from CBS and Fox coming soon.

Additionally, starting at 12:01am Eastern Time on November 11, all Viacom-owned networks will no longer be available on PlayStation Vue. This includes channels such as Comedy Central, Spike, and MTV. At PlayStation, we always strive to provide the best value and service for our fans. As part of our ongoing evaluation of the PlayStation Vue offering, we have determined that removing the bundle of channels from Viacom is the best way for us to continue to offer the most compelling value to our fans.

It’s been quite a busy year for us since launching ESPN, ABC and other Disney-owned networks; we have expanded the service nationwide, added highly requested channels such as NFL Network and HBO, and introduced new PS Vue enabled devices such as Roku, Android TV and web support for PC and Mac. As demonstrated by the new channels announced today, we will continue to expand the PlayStation Vue service by adding devices and networks that are highly requested by our fans.

PlayStation Vue subscribers will continue to enjoy the popular features that make the service unique, such as simultaneous streaming and cloud-based DVR. We are continuing to add value and flexibility with multiple plan options to choose from, as well as a la carte options such as recent additions of HBO and Cinemax.

Remember that there is no long-term commitment required for any PlayStation Vue plan. You can visit www.psvue.com for more information.

We want to thank all of you for your continued support, and we look forward to all that’s ahead.

  • The last few months since I cut the cable have been very enjoyable and aside from no CW(I just use the antenna for that) I have not missed cable whatsoever….but now that the Viacom stations are leaving, so will I, and the disappointment is widespread throughout our household. Hope this stupid decision is soon reversed.

  • This is totally unacceptable and will be a reason I’m leaving Vue after this billing cycle. Not worth it with so many channels leaving.

  • I see. Sony is keeping the price lower for our benefit. My question is if Sony isn’t renewing viacom’s contract why isn’t he price of ps vue going down. All I’m seeing here is less for us and more money for them. This is supposed o be for our benefit? I think Sony is the beneficiary. And their take is, if you don’t like, tuff s**t, go somewhere else. Nice.

    • Just a guess, but they probably will be adding more channels. Already adding BBC, NBA(not that I care about this). Supposedly AE and WGN are being added, which means History hopefully won’t be to far behind. Ultimately, if you don’t like Sony dropping 15 channels, maybe you should complain Viacom being able to own so many channels in the first place.

  • This is AWESOME!! Right as 5 friends switched because I raved about Vue they dump a ton of the channels they wanted. I’ve been so hesitant about Sony as a company trying to keep your head above water and when I’m like “man they’ve got something going here” they tank again. I hope that this gets situated or we’ll have to bounce and not comeback. Did it to dish the direct now 3 up 3 down. Thanks Sony. Without the PlayStation brand you could/would be sunk. Hope to hear this fixed soon

  • Awesome job adding NBA TV! Really looking forward to that. Keep adding more sports channels. I can get everything else I need on Netflix or with an antenna. Only need PS Vue for sports and that is why I chose PS Vue and will continue to stay with you. More local channels would be nice but NBA TV is a huge add

  • We are very upset by the departure of the Viacom channels. However I do want the people at sony to look things over with a level head. We don’t want a greedy network causing our reasonable prices to skyrocket.

  • “At PlayStation, we always strive to provide the best value and service for our fans.”

Apparently not if you’re cutting these channels

“As part of our ongoing evaluation of the PlayStation Vue offering, we have determined that removing the bundle of channels from Viacom is the best way for us to continue to offer the most compelling value to our fans.”

    No, it’s not.

Good thing I didn’t cancel my (abysmal) U-Verse service as I’m starting my Vue subscription. Guess I’ll have to look to DirecTV Now streaming service to cut the cable. Guess you can no longer call Vue better than Sling.

    • Direct TV Now already has said you will be bound by an X amount of months contract, unliek Vue, which is allowing you to simply quit becuase you don’t like Viacom leaving.

  • Hey great to see you conveniently have yet to change your lineup of channels on your subscription page and in your price.

  • Hey great to see you conveniently have yet to change your lineup of channels on your subscription page and in your price. Nothing shady about that

  • Can I have sprout in my package since you are getting rid of Nick?

  • This is all kind of pointless postings. Sony doesn’t read these except to find good ones to use as testimonies

  • No comedy central no subscription from me. Theres no way removing some of the most popular channels is best for the service. Nfl network and nba tv combined probably get less views than nick jr

  • Yeah no reason to keep the service without Comedy Central.

  • My wife and I never watch any Viacom network shows so no real loss for us. We certainly understand the frustration families and individuals feel but I believe your anger is misdirected. Sony’s margins have to be pretty slim as is to have been offering over 100 channels for 44.99/mo. That is less than 45 cents per channel per subscriber. If Viacom suddenly wanted $10 per subscriber instead of $7.50 Sony’s margins would be next to nothing. Heck Comcrap charges me $5 / mo in ” rebroadcast fees” and that is for content I get for free over the air. If you want to cast your vitriol upon someone, you should be directing it toward Viacom. At least if their content was more enticing they would be able to push Sony, Comcast and DirecTV to increase their rates rather than just drop them. Oh wait, that is exactly what Comcast and DirecTV do for the junk they already put on their networks. At least Sony isn’t passing along that cost in the form of higher rates.

  • Wait, what? All Viacom content? Well crap. And here I though Playstation Vue would be the streaming solution I was looking for. I will not be continuing my subscription.

  • That’s a bit of a disappointment,I’ll miss Spike.TvLand and CMT.Kind of lousy they don’t notify customers.Right now I pay $29.99 and get local CBS included,I’ll be keeping them for now but will check out Direct Tv when it becomes available. Also Google is working on a similar service.Sling tv is too expensive for the channels I would watch,I would have to pay $40 to $45 plus tax.

  • Should adjust the price, since we are losing that many channels. I don’t use it often, since we have a data cap and it is only available in hd, not sd. My mom watches MTV alot, occasionally Spike. Plan on checking out Hulu’s live tv option once they release more details.

  • OK with me. I never watched any of those channels. How about replacing them with something good or dropping the price a few dollars?

  • The reason this is happening is because att is buying comcast and they are creating their own network and online streaming.

  • I cannot believe this is actually going to happened. I made the switch to VUE leaving DirectTV/ATT behind. I have a child who watches Nickelodeon, and if they plan on taking that off what is the point for ANY parent to renew? I am very disappointed on the news about Viacom channels dropping. GOODBYE PS VUE

    • So have your child watch the Disney Channels. The kid programs are all the same just with different actors. Or get a Roku and just watch the Nichalodeon app.

  • Very disappointed. I will look elsewhere.

  • Well, it looks like I’ll have to take a serious look at DirecTV Now. Nick Jr is one of my son’s favorite networks. The short notice is extremely disappointing, especially considering my sub just renewed a couple of days ago… Ridiculous

  • Can we get our money back ? For ALL of last year?

  • Would have been awesome if you guys took a poll for this. We don’t need more sport channels! Keep Viacom an take some of that crap away. BBC America? Oh brother.

  • Great..Just cut the cord, paid for my current vue subscription on the 8th, and just now see this article. Of course this happens. Guess it’s back to cable..They win again.

  • That is the most bs ever, is it gong to be cheaper now

  • bring back the nick channels

  • No comedy central, TV land and nickelodeon… I’m out

  • Really!? The main reason I subscribe to Vue is for CC and the Daily Show. Don’t lie to customers, strip programming and call it a “value add”. Give you 1 month to change this short sighted decision before I unsubscribe.

    • It is highly weird to consider removing things to be adding value. lol.

      “Only on Playstation!” lol

    • They did not say it was “added value”. They said “At PlayStation, we always strive to provide the best value and service for our fans. As part of our ongoing evaluation of the PlayStation Vue offering, we have determined that removing the bundle of channels from Viacom is the best way for us to continue to offer the most compelling value to our fans. At PlayStation, we always strive to provide the best value and service for our fans, while enabling us to focus on the content our users request most.

Translation: Viacom tried to extort us which would force us to raise our monthly package fees. Rather than bow to this extortion we decided to part ways with the Viacom owned channels. We will continue to add channels to the lineup while maintaining our low monthly fees.

  • This sucks, I love MTV Classic, but the worst thing is that my 3 year old son who LOVES, LOVES, LOVES Paw Patrol will be heartbroken over this.

    Viacom, you suck!

  • Okay so I pay the same rate per month ($35) and you take away all the entertainment. I understand how those dbags(viocom) raise their prices, but how come I have to pay the same rate for half the entertainment I signed up for?

  • damn wanted to get rid of cable for this but not really an option anymore, heck i could just do with the viacom bundle in my house lol

  • I agree with one of the commenters above, timing is too close to rollout of DirecTV Now to be a coincidence.. people have some common sense; we are all in for a rough ride with respect to content providers trying to bring the hammer down with all the new Ott services coming out. Sony, nice job on adding BBC America.

I’m hoping we see the ability for deals to be made for just the channels viewers really want, not the whole slate..

  • This is disappointing, but since I switched from Suddenlink to PS Vue, I didn’t have access to those channels anyway. I’m assuming that this is part of a pricing dispute between Viacom and Sony. I’d guess people might be willing to pay for a higher tier if it meant having access to these channels again, though I’m sure this isn’t an option for some reason.

For me, the bigger question is what channels are replacing the Viacom channels, other than BBC America? There isn’t a list anywhere of what exactly we’re gaining and what exactly we’re losing. What will be included in each tier?

  • Say good bye to a potential customer.

  • “additionally, starting at 12:01am Eastern Time on November 11, all Viacom-owned networks will no longer be available on PlayStation Vue. This includes channels such as Comedy Central, Spike, and MTV”

Well I’m not renewing my sub this month. Still no CW or History Channel, and you’re *removing* access to CC and Spike. How about you focus LESS on having 20 or 30 sports channels and seek more diverse offerings? This is also why I don’t have cable. Why should I pay $30/month when I [now] only would actively use 2 or 3 channels? Poor decision making going on over there. See ya!

  • Are you going to cut the price for reducing the number of channels? Nope.

  • I’m OK with this if they can bring local sports channels MASN/MASN2 to my area. That’s the main channels I want. I check periodically to see if the added them, but no luck.

  • i watch comedy central, and my kids watch nick.

    sigh… time to cancel

  • Charter moved Disney Jr to a higher price package. Moved to Sling TV.
Sling TV was single stream and lost Disney channels; Moved to PSVue.
PSVue lost Nick Jr; where to next?

I really do like PSVue, and on average resolution was better than sling TV, and now we can have all rooms on at the same time, without having to pay extra for each room.

From what I’ve seen, it’s a loss of 21 channels, that’s quite quantitative. It really doesn’t matter if it’s 21 or 1, if the single one gone is the one you watched the most, and there’s no other way to recover it without adding an additional, different, service.

I’d rather pay $5 extra because it’s the channel I need, but I’d put that as an option, not a requirement (meaning if you want those 21 channels you can pay $5 more for the “Viacom add-on”, sort of how Sling TV works it.

But that’s not a choice currently.

I may rely on purchasing seasons on Vudu instead.

  • So you are dropping the Viacom networks – fine. However it’s not just Comedy Central, SPIKE and MTV, it also includes BET, CMT, TV Land, VH1, Nick Jr, Nickelodeon and Nick Toons. You are dropping 11 channels and replacing them with 2. You will be dropping the rates we pay as well because your advertised 60+ channels is no longer accurate – right?

    • Biscuits

Its actually 2x that numbet of channels. 22 in total

All of the Viacom owned channels (except Pop! isn’t listed and its a Viacom channel) –

      **ACCESS**
      MTV
      MTV2
      Nickelodeon
      Nick Jr.
      Nicktoons
      VH1
      Comedy Central
      Spike
      TV Land
      BET

      **ELITE**
      MTV Live
      MTV Classic
      MTVU
      Logo TV
      NickMusic
      CMT
      CMT Music
      BET Gospel
      BET Jams
      BET Soul
      Centric

  • For those with young kids Nick Jr is kinda a must… I was looking to ditch cable as soon as my contract was over (2 months), had tried out Vue and was hip to make the switch. Now I’m not sure that’s possible.

  • Well crap.

Guess I’ll hold on until Direct TV Now launches and do a comparison. Nickelodeon and TV Land are big draws for me.

BBC America is a plus but I bet Direct TV Now had it too…

  • I paid up front for Red Zone for the entire season, so cancelling outright isn’t an option right now. But I’ll definitely consider it come the end of the NFL season.

  • Are NBA TV and BBC going to be available on the lowest package?

  • Looking at Viacom’s channel line up i’d consider this a none issue. Other than Comedy Central which I used to watch 3-5 years ago there is nothing they have worth a crap. I can see resentment coming from people with kids though, losing all the “Nick” based channels. For me this is just cutting out the dead wood to make room for much better channels. Many thanks for adding BBC America (1 of a few channels on Sling we didn’t have), and NBA TV. Now please add the NHL & MLB Networks, History, and Hallmark (to keep my girlfriend happy) and all will be golden. One question is are we going to get a price break $$ for losing like 24 channels?? If not they better start adding other channels at a rapid pace.

  • Dropping channels with 3 days notice…classy. Losing these channels is unacceptable. My three year old is going to flip when he finds out he cant watch Paw Patrol and Bubble Guppies. You’ve lost another customer…seems to be a common sentiment here.

  • Okay this is not good, but it could come back the companies battle and take it off and then after awhile they bring it back because they came to a happy place. The Sony offer is the best by far and its month to month. I watch MTV a lot but not enough to go back. The major players don’t deserve my business. Sony is the best cord cutting option out there, and yes to some people out there you can pay for MTV and Nick separately, for example through Itunes. Im sticking with Sony I just started last month there is so much more to offer and they are obviously pissing off the big boys because they are fighting with Sony. Keep fighting Sony and get our Viacom back.

  • for Roku owners, nickolodeon and nick kids are available as channels.

  • bye bye, I want my money back for this month that you just charged me as well. Have to have the NIck stations. in our house so, it’s been fun for the last 6 months, but I guess I’m going back to either TWC or perhaps Sling. Not perfect options, but at least they have the channels our house watches.

    • I chatted with them and they gave me the last month back. Just wanted to let everyone know that they will refund.
