PSN Toolbar Available Today on

Starting today, if you head to and log in to your PSN account, you’ll see a new toolbar in the top right where you’ll be able to view Notifications, Messages, Friends, and your own mini-profile — all from your computer’s web browser. This makes it easier to stay connected when you’re away from your console.

Your Friends list will be fully accessible via the toolbar, giving you a snapshot of which friends are online before you hop into a game. The Messages tab includes the ability to send and receive stickers, images, text, and voice messages all from the web.

You’ll also be able to keep track of friend requests, Party invitations, and game invitations from the Notifications tab until you can get to your console. Head over to to check it out, and let us know what you think in the comments.

  • Focus your efforts on the app instead. It needs a lot of work

    • Totally agree the PlayStation mobile app really needs a lot of work compared to the Xbox app it really sucks big time.

    • I vote on this as well…

The Store through the app works awful and freezes.

    • yeap, I support your thought

    • I agree that I’d rather see the app improved. I really enjoy using the Playstation communities bit their absence from the app let’s them down.

    • Totally agree

    • Make the playstation app great….again?

    • +1 This is great, but the dedicated app needs improvement

    • They need to make it a full native app, right now it’s this hybrid mess.

    • Yeah the PlayStation App does need work. You would think with all the money they make would make a better one. I do use the PlayStation App but I also use a 2nd one. But it has everything we all are asking for. Chat, blogs, and can even see hidden trophies. So yeah the App does need work. But that is OK. I have a back up I use.

    • Before you guys complain about the app just think. If the ps app was as good as xboxs app, would playstation be dominating or annihilating xbox on the ability to play your ps4 console from anywhere via sony xperia or psvita?
Just let that simmer… you can’t play your Xbox from anywhere your playstation give you multiple modesources. Thanks from a former xbox user aname avid new ps4 owner. Ps4 > xbox

    • I still don’t understand why we Nigerians also come last in everything. No PlayStation app on iOs devices just android… you guys should try and make the app available please. Thanks

  • So it’s a toolbar for just It’s not a Chrome extension or toolbar? That should be next, that’s what I was hoping this was!

  • Great addition to the site, you can even delete friends via the toolbar. Thanks!

  • I don’t see it yet – Irish PSN

  • Is this also available at

    • Apparently not yet, sadly.

Also add Communities to this AND the app! Please! And add this to the other regions as well!

    • It works as well if you log in with your EU account

    • We will be bringing the toolbar to EU very soon. As others have noted, PSN accounts from any country can use this feature on Americas today.

  • Great idea! Was hoping for this for a while now!

Though I would love it when it also works in EU (and other regions), plus add Communities to this and the mobile app!

And when you’re at it, change Communities in such a way that it’s like a proper forum with sub-forums and threads.

  • Any chance you can add this to the European Playstation site?

  • Baller! About time you guys got around to this!

  • Awesome!!!! I knew something was missing but couldn’t think of what. Now I know, and don’t have to log into app now! ++++

  • The new PSN Toolbar is a good addition to the site, but I think the PS App needs more work. It comes in handy when I’m on the go but there are a few things that could be improved.

    • I spend more time on the PlayStation App rather than actually visiting The app is more convenient and faster, although a few improvements need to be made, like loading the PlayStation Store and Blog.

  • Yeah… Just rip the PS Vita from your site as well…

  • The site keeps signing me back out so cant really experience the toolbar (did send one message off of it though)

    • Same for me. I can sign in here at the blog but if I try to sign in at it just signs me out from here and doesn’t sign me in there. I use 2-factor authentication… maybe that’s the issue?

  • It’s good that we finally have this, but I was kinda hoping that we’d get an app instead of a toolbar..
I’m not trying to sound lazy or anything, but I don’t want to keep a tab open just for this :(

    • Exactly, at the very minimum, this looks like a macOS toolbar app. I mean, come on… no one is going to keep a browser page open for this.

  • nice addition! its cool to be able to send and receive messages on my laptop when Im not at my PS4. good job!

  • Nice. Now add party function in PC to I talk with my friends on PS3…

    • No offence but thats not a feature I want them to waste money on. There are plenty of free apps on mobile and desktop were you can create party calls across devices, facebook, google etc. Just use of them.

Just a note: PS3 does not do party chat….

    • I agree with TKC-Muzzer, my first option for voice is Skype, it’s easy to use and pretty good for PS3 or Vita when in-game private voice chat is not supported. Also everyone can be on a different console (or not on PSN at all) and just run the app from a phone or computer.

  • Why the hell is this not on Playstation EU?
    FS PS :(

  • Thanks. I used it to message my friends sitting next to me at work.

  • I don’t see this and I’m using Google Chrome.

  • Ok nvm I see it. But I think It’ll been better if this was a Browser Toolbar or extension not a website Toolbar.

  • ok, now build an Windows App and a Mac OS X one too, people tend to prefer apps than web.

  • You did a nice job there =)
btw we need more stickers please, I love them!

  • Now if only I could sort my downloads list…

  • Who cares about this when the Playstation download list is such an absolute mess!

  • this is awesome! i was hoping something like this would arrive soon

  • Another great way to get connected with friends while at office. loved it!

  • More useless stuff from SONY.

  • Definitely cool, PlayStation.

Not to downplay the accomplishment at all, but if you could make that toolbar downloadable for use on a web browser that’d be even better. Then I could access everything regardless of what site I happen to be perusing.

  • Well done but the app needs all the help it can get. Also compared to Xbox, you guys have really lagged behind.

  • Why is this on the stupid website? This belongs in widgets and whatnot on my desktop. Why don’t you have a macOS toolbar app for this?

    • HTML5 through modern web browsers is pretty much the most cross-platform solution nowadays. That’s not to say native apps aren’t better, because in many ways they are. But there’s no way you can compare them to the simplicity and accessibility of a web-based solution which requires no manual user-side maintenance/updating and is accessible by virtually all mainstream devices.

  • Even though everyone seems to think that the app needs more love (and they’re not wrong) I do appreciate allowing a real PC to communicate on your network. It’s easier for me to use a keyboard rather than fat-fingering everything.

PS. Fix your broken app =)

  • Keep up the good work :)

  • This is good for desktop Users, since there is no official PlayStation App for PC/Linux :D

  • CAN someone please link this? It isn’t working, or I don’t know how to do this XDD

  • Thank you for this new Feature! There sure is always a room for improvement :)

  • Very nice…the ability to send messages through the computer will be very very useful.Great job Sony…suprisingly this time around you guys nailed it.

  • I have to disagree a bit with all the people saying the app is more important than this. I didn’t have a smartphone for years, and I realize that puts me in a small minority of people nowadays. But it was impossible for me to ever check any PSN messages and whatnot because I didn’t have a smartphone. I have one now, but in many ways, I’d still prefer to check from a web browser on my work computer than having to pull out my phone. I could see how many younger gamers or people in other countries might be more likely to use the web site than a mobile app depending on whether or not they have smartphones with data plans.
