World of Tanks: Celebrate the 100 Years of Tanks Anniversary

Hello everyone! I’m Jeff Gregg, Lead Designer on World of Tanks for PS4. The team has been working hard on features and elements surrounding the 100 Year Anniversary of Tanks, and we’re super excited to share some of this with you!

First of all, celebrating 100 Years of Tanks is obviously a big milestone for us. For me personally it’s a reminder of how far we’ve come both “in real life” and in the game itself; these behemoths have had incredible influence on history. From the first Mark I tank that rolled across Europe to the current roster of vehicles in the game, each tank has had an impact on both me and all of the development team. We take great pride in bringing these vehicles to the players in our community and love to see them used in digital combat all across the world.

To celebrate this anniversary, the team has worked on special custom operations, a new Centennial T95 tank for players to acquire, and a brand new event mode featuring the Mark I tank itself.

For those who don’t know, the Mark I was the first vehicle to be given the moniker “tank.” Its primary job was designed to break through defensive lines and traverse across trenches while protecting soldiers from enemy fire. It was big, noisy, slow, and terrifying when it appeared on the battlefield.

The development team spent considerable time deciding how to bring this vehicle to the game. We studied how this tank was meant to be used and what it did historically; balancing these elements with what would be fun. Since the Mark I never fought per-se, we had to imagine how a battle of Mark I tanks would go.

We leaned on classic World War I trench warfare engagements. Keeping your vehicle protected from fire, risking rushes across no-man’s-land, and covering your team’s flanks all play into the Mark I battles and are hallmarks of how World War I was fought. But that still didn’t satisfy us; we needed something more. So we looked to you, our community.

Our players are very vocal and have lots of great ideas. We listened to them and poured through feedback on previous events such as the Lunar Tank (on the moon) and the TOG Boat. After analyzing what we wanted to do and what we thought you the player would want to play, we decided this Mark I tank event needed something extra special to stand out. To that end we gave the Mark I a flame-thrower for intense close-quarters battle. Combining this new weapon that could be replenished via pickups to Mark I tank combat turned out to be a great combination. We can’t wait to hear what you think!

We are very excited to continue to celebrate the 100 Years of Tanks with you all. I’m grateful to be part of this game, and love that we can honor our collective history while playing games together and having fun.

  • all i want to say is thanks sony for not allowing fallout 4 or skrim mods on your joke of a system and i shure as hell better get my refund for my pree order of skrim for fals advertising

    • I did live chat with Playstation support yesterday. Expressed my disappointment about the “no mods”. I asked for a full refund for Fallout 4 and pass. I was denied because it was out of the time window. Amazing!! Most of us have had this game for almost a year and now we find out that Sony won’t allow mods. If I would have known from the start, I would have bought it for my Xbox One instead. Which is why I’m requesting the refund. Nope!! Tough luck!! Absolutely terrible. :-( I don’t like being lied too nor false advertising. A feature was promised and it didn’t happen. Retribution!!!

    • ok so what if you have no mods the game is still fun stop complaining and enjoy an original game instead of a modified one takes the fun out of a game

  • no native 4k, no mods, low powered ,DDoS psn oh my #sony Fail big time) i get pc & #xbox then

  • “Celebrate 100 years of tanks”?

When did tanks become a good thing?

Are we going to celebrate leukemia next?

    • Spoken like someone who has been handed everything they own in this life.

Tanks are a crucial part of any given military force. And regardless of what little you actually know about wars and fighting, some people actually need those tanks to survive simply defending their land and people.

    • Couldn’t agree more. Why is this something to celebrate…?

  • PS4 Mods Now !

  • Lol aren’t both pics of tanks from indiana jones and the last crusade?

  • Way over priced tank combat game. I guess people with $ to burn can enjoy it but during my play time with it, its just not for me. Neverwinter is the mother of $ this $ that games out there but theres always something for me to do that doesnt cost me a dime…!

  • Give me Girls und Panzer tanks or don’t bother.

  • Bring Mods to PS4!

  • no mod!fake 4k!and I still not understand about the patch!?

if give me 1080p60fps in the future,I will not leave.

    60FPS! please!

  • Isn’t Deep Down due for it’s 100th Renewal Anniversary come this Feb? Never thought I’d see a new playstation come out before the game. Would have been a great VR launch title.

  • i am gonna buy ps4 pro on day 1.
And i have website like this too plz checkout it at Mindracker.com

  • Reasons why Sony is a terrible company right now:

-Playstation Pro cost $100 more than Xbox One S.

-Allows mods on Farming Simulator but not Fallout 4.

-PSN is almost always down at least once a week.

    -No backwards compatibility at all.

Yeah, I’m selling this garbage PS4 for an Xbox One. I can’t wait to mod Fallout 4 and play old Xbox 360 games.

Oh and by the way, allow Rocket League to be online cross platform. Microsoft is willing to. Just kidding I know you’re never going to listen to the fans, so this is for the other people commenting to see. Sell your PS4s for Xbox ones, they have more features.

    • See us! Your mad about not playing old games on a new console. Mad about two games not having mods when you played games in the past without them. And I hope you know it’s extremely limited on Xbox. Only 2GB. One mod is like 500mb and that’s just skins. Also the mods have to be approved. And they do risk your console being bricked. PSN is down? Gee same with XBL. Both have down time. Now if you want to leave Sony and join MS that’s ok. It’s your life. But for two games? And one you played last gen? Wow so sad. But it’s cool. Sony already got your money.

    • If you sell a PS4 for a One, you probably have autism

  • Exactly Gamer, PlayStation is better in every way, they are just acting that way because they are rude, japan is PlayStation and not rude, if mods can brick a PS4 or even interfere with the servers OR the store then dont add mods (i was looking for skyrim mods so much though) but theirs no reason for anyone to switch because of excuses.
