We’re happy to share the free PS4 games for PS Plus members this August! This month we look to satisfy your inner space pirate, and let you battle it out with friends in a frenzied tower builder.

First up is Tricky Towers, a new title from WeirdBeard Games. Tricky Towers is a physics-based puzzler that’s at its best when you’re competing against friends. With local and online multiplayer for two to four players, the game shines as you race to stack your tower while casting spells to disrupt your opponents. The gameplay is fast, fun, and addictive, as you’ll find yourself coming back for more. So gather your friends or join them online and enjoy the mayhem of Tricky Towers.

Next up is Rebel Galaxy. Suit up and take command in this space combat RPG from developer Double Damage. Take the helm of a massive destroyer as you make your reputation through trade, by being a work-for-hire mercenary or a swashbuckling pirate. In a procedurally generated universe, no two star systems are the same and there’s always something new to discover. So take the helm, prepare for battle, and have a blast with Rebel Galaxy.

  • Woo-hoo! Excited for Tricky Towers! Played it at PSX and really enjoyed it.

  • Yakuza! Now that’s a surefire way to get me to play a digital-only release of a game I’d been begging for a physical release of!

Rogue Galaxy sounds intriguing, so I’ll have to check. Some footage of it.

Patapon and Ultratron will be enjoyed. Still happy that Oreshika was July’s Vita gem

  • Average stuff once again, we had a couple of treats in recent months and things are looking up. All the predictions were pointing to resident evil hd, or even tomb raider, the last of us amy other 2 year old Triple A game. All that hype and then 2 PS4 games we have never heard of again. Disappointing.

  • I’m looking forward to trying out Rebel Galaxy. I really loved Guru.

  • This is Just Sad

  • Rebel Galaxy looks like a ton of fun!! Really excited about getting my hands on it, especially after listening to the Bombcast hype it up. Patapon will be a fun time waster, but I’m a little disappointed that it’s another game with no trophies. Retro/Grade looks interesting especially seeing as you can play it on a guitar, and Ultratron looked like a fun little twinstick shooter but I couldn’t justify myself buying it as it is supposed to be very short so I’m glad we got that. Yakuza 5 I already own, and Tricky Towers doesn’t look overly appealing to me, but overall I am pleased with this month.

  • This is embarrassing. Most of this year’s PS4/Vita PS+ releases have been completely lackluster. PS4 has been out long enough to throw us some decent retail releases now and then. And are we really going to start calling PSP games Vita games? Have we actually run out of games? I’m not resubscribing, this is a joke!

  • YAKUZA 5
    A
    K
    U
    Z
    A
    5

  • The space RPG looks pretty rad

  • June: NBA 2K16, Gone Home. July: Saints Gat out of hell, Furi. And Now August It’s Some Tetris Look A Like And Some Game I’ve Never Heard Of. At Least Ps3 Gets Yazuka 5 and patapon 3 For Psvita. Yeah Sony ****ed Up. Xbox Has wwe 2k16, Beyond Good And Evil, Warriors ultimate 3 And Spelunky. Really Sony You’ll Have To Do Better.

  • PATAPON!!!! OOOOHHH GOD! Thank you so much.

  • Not bad but could be better.

PS3 as always get the best games…will gladly pick up Yakuza 5 and I already have Retro/Grade but it’s a helluva great game with a fantastic soundtrack…whoever that didn’t played it yet oughta try it out,you can’t go wrong with that soundtrack.

  • First time in a very long time i am mildly exited to have ps+ membership. PS4 era have been really bad compared to PS3. Lets hope we get more than awful indies in future.

  • Its pretty sucky that XBox Live members are getting Triple A releases like WWE 2k16 and PS Plus members are just getting MORE indy games. Based on free games, I would be much happier this month if I had an XBone over a ps4. Why can’t we get a WWE game or even a launch title like Knack or Last of Us Remastered with our membership?

    • Stfu.. We just got nba 2k16 in june, and last of us remastered was 7.99 just 2wks ago. If you want crap looking 720 quality AAA games, got to xbox, we won’t miss you

  • Woot Patapon!
    woohoo! not a walking sim!

  • Wow kinda cheap this month on the free games, granted I have way to many games to already catch up on but I was really hoping for something other than indie games for August.

    • Cheap on the games? Well if you add the current asking price for the games excluding Tricky Towers as I do not know it’s price, it adds up to $94.95…. I don’t think you have done your research.

  • May not be AAA for ps4 you guys, but both look good, and have piqued my curiosity. Especially rebel galaxy. Loooong time since I’ve played a good space sim. Really can’t wait for No Man’s Sky, hoping rebel gets me warmed up for it

  • Kinda weird and ironic to see Sony giving rebel galaxy the same month no man’s sky is comming out. Great game there it is no AAA but you guys should rly give it a try.

  • Xbox only does AAA titles bc they know their system is garbage and microsoft is losing tons of money because low console sales. I’d rather pay for high quality 3rd party games, than play with 720 quality looking crap

  • Can we start getting good games again please. That’s the only reason I have PS PLUS. Multiplayer online means nothing to me.
I feel since Sony is in the lead they no longer need to use good games to draw us in. We had way better games on PS3 before PS4 came out. I keep hoping that the next month will be better. Will not be renewing PS PLUS if there is no change by end of subscription.

    • I think ps4 is good enough to not need to draw us in. And i believe xbox only does big games more often bc they know they’re trash. Especially in overall video quality . There’s almost no difference in video quality of 360 to xb1

    • No one gamer will ever be happy every month, but in all, including plus sales, it’s worth it. Picked up Last of Us for 8 bucks…8. That’s a f’n awesome deal

  • again, indie games are all the campaign of good games they have finished and what is there to enjoy

  • Super excited to try Rebel Galaxy! Never heard of Tricky Towers, which makes me want to play it real bad lol. Nice one Sony!

  • With almost 12000 dislikes *and climbing* on Youtube seems like you guys made the right selection.

  • I guarantee you if PS4 didnt require a plus membership to get online, most of you defenders would have opted out of a PS plus membership by now to pickup better games with the money. This is pathetic compared to what we used to get in 2012-13.

  • Thank you! I’ve very excited for Yakuza! Now I just need dead souls to complete my collection. I’d be more excited about rebel galaxy if No Man’s Sky wasn’t coming out in like two weeks lol. But thank you anyway for it because it will be like an appetizer.

  • I get that not every month is going to have some great titles for the PS4 and honestly i have come to terms with it, but for the love of god how many space shooters are you going to give us. Pease just for the rest of the year no more space shooters.

  • I was going to buy Rebel Galaxy so this lineup is friggin awesome!:D

  • x-SacredShadow-x

Ill probably give that RPG game a shot but thats about it. Can I recommend ps2 to ps4 games here too? Like, Champions of North or Baldurs Gate: Dark Alliance 2?? I would explode with joy if I could play those again.

  • What you Sony r doing to all of us PS4 users is bull. Only ****ed up games. Fortunately my membership expires next month. I won’t buy it again.

  • My PS Plus membership expires next month. I won’t buy it again. Only horrible games are given to us PS4 users.

  • TectonicElement1

Disappointed, heard there was supposed to be 1 “triple-A” game, Tricky towers is basically Tetris

  • Looks pretty good to me! The only game I already have is Ultratron (A great game btw!) so I’m looking forward to them.

  • Cool, I have been meaning to pick up Rebel Galaxy… i already own it on PC & playing it on the couch should be even more fun.

I will say that it would be nice to see a bigger budget title offered to … Kinda like how Infamous 2 was offered on the PS3’s PS+ for several months in a row.

  • These games in my view are “Bumish” at best. All the money spent on games and the best they could do is this BS..Cmon Man

  • this is almost as bad as having hillary as our president.

do the geniuses working for psplus at sony HQ even read the comments each month? you would have hoped they would have solved this issue by now seeing as how pretty much every month they give us garbage indie trash and get trashed for doing so.

  • So this is what the PS4 user base has to look forward to come August? Pretty embarrassing stuff here, Sony, don’t ya think? In the absence of backwards compatability, I would expect to see at least one AAA game on that list.

I’m all for trying something new, but this month’s offerings border on insulting.

  • OneManArmyAndres

    PATA PATA PATA PON!
    Thank you Playstation!

  • Well Yakuza 5 is awesome if i didn’t already own it…

  • If you’re actively playing all 3, the PS4, the 10-year-old PS3, or the defunct Vita, then you’re getting a number of options. But comparing what MS gives with Live for XB1 to PS Plus for PS4, Microsoft consistently “gives away” more and better stuff. Sony really embraced the indie-games when with this system and it shows even with the freebies. I know Sony has the much larger user base, but they don’t support them as well.

I know there’s some that are happy with the offering, and with full sincerity, good for them. As a note to Playstation though, I’m an unhappy customer. I wish I purchased the XB1 this gen.

  • Raise your hand if your sick and tired of indie-based tetris/tower games. *raises hand high*

  • Dolphindragon888

I’m grateful to Sony, because most games sound like fun. My only grievance is that I bought Yakuza 5 when it came out, so I’m not thrilled to have it on Plus, since it’s a less game for me. But hey! I can’t wait to try the rest of the games. :D

  • I own every main-line Yakuza game, and I just saw the January release date for Yakuza 0. Yakuza 4 was a Plus Game. Yakuza 5 will be a Plus Game next month. I’m still making my way through Yakuza 3. I don’t regret my purchases but I’m beginning to think when Yakuza 6 comes out I should hold out until it eventually joins Plus…

  • CanccerianBuddha

    What are these dos games?

  • Hi, I almost never comment here, but this one deserved: This is lineup is a joke for ps4 owners. There’s a reason why anyone has this games, but I’ll let you wonder why.

  • Are you kidding me? So, Rebel Galaxy and a PSP game are the only decent things this month? I don’t have a PS3, and the rest is trash. Unbelievable how you guys don’t even try anymore

  • Really Disapointed, don’t know if a goona resubscribe my plus, just the letdown to see those garbage , and live givind so much more, i don’t want to fell that way anymore, gonna get a xone and play online there, they respect my money , my ps4 is officialy a an offline gaming system

  • I am super excited for Rebel Galaxy, though I wish it weren’t coming at the same time as No Man’s Sky and Abzu. It’s a game that I’ve eyed for a while, but just haven’t bought because I’m playing other stuff. But I’ll definitely get into the game at some point.

And, I’m personally not interested in Tricky Towers. But I have a 7 year old who might love it.

  • Let’s face it, if they were giving away GTA 5 and a night with Scarlett Johansson, it would have looked pretty lacklustre against No Man’s Sky, which we’ll all be playing in 2 week’s time anyway. It really wasn’t worth putting anything on there that would excite anyone.

And Rebel Galaxy is only there to whet the appetite of those still on the fence about No Man’s Sky. I wasn’t expecting much this month….

  • Yakuza 5 alone makes this the best month in a real long time

  • Rebel Galaxy is AMAZING!!! I have never seen a comment online or heard from a friend or anyone who has played it and not liked it. An amazing 20-60 hour game made by two guys, that’s it. I put in close to 70 hours getting platinum plus then some for enjoyment. Good combat, great soundtrack, blast to play. This should be considered a win for anyone that gives it a try.

    • I’ll be grabbing it as I still cite Elite as being the greatest game ever, so want to see how it compares. As I said earlier, it’ll whet my appetite for No Man’s Sky. When that drops, Rebel Galaxy might well be a gaming mouche bouche for me.
