Kerbal Space Program Launches July 12 on PS4

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to work for NASA and build rockets that go into space? On July 12 you’ll be able to get closer than ever playing Kerbal Space Program (KSP) on your PS4 — right from your couch.

If you’re into space travel, flight simulators, or sandbox games, there’s no way you can miss this. Our physics-based space flight simulator is recognized for its realism and attention to detail, while keeping the gameplay experience fun and rewarding.

In KSP, we put you in charge of the recently launched space program for a fun and clever alien race — the Kerbals. These little guys are counting on you to build spaceships, rockets, and vehicles that can take off and hold on during fun space travel missions, without hurting them in the process…

You’ll have a collection of parts and tools to accomplish this, each one with unique functionalities that will affect your ship and its chances of taking off (or crashing).

With completely redesigned controls and gameplay that’s challenging yet fun, you’ll have everything needed to conquer space with the Kerbals.

Our game offers three gameplay modes: Sandbox, where you’re free to build anything your imagination can come up with; Science Mode lets you perform scientific experiments and advance the knowledge of Kerbals to unlock new technologies; and Career Mode, where you control every aspect of the space program, including crew management, reputation building, as well as embarking on side missions called “contracts” to earn funds and upgrade your space center facilities (or repair them).

Flying your vessel has never been so fun in KSP — using the triggers and sticks on DualShock 4, you can have a more precise analog experience to make advanced maneuvers with your aircraft.

So sit back and relax, while you build the perfect rocket to reach Mun. Don’t forget to download Kerbal Space Program from Playstation Store on July 12. The Kerbals are counting on you to take them to space!

  • Free?

  • Awesome news. Saw this at PSX. Can’t wait!

  • I’ve been waiting for this one for a long time! Price?

  • Really excited about this. Will this ps4 version be kept up-to-date with the PC version? My only concern about paying another $30 or so on it.

  • This looks like tons of fun. I can’t wait to pick this up next week!

  • “If you’re into space travel, flight simulators, or sandbox games, there’s no way you can miss this.”

With No Man’s Sky coming out within a month of this, I think I have a great reason to miss this.

Jk, jk… I know they are very different but that sentence describes NMS to me. This game is great though! I don’t think I’ll invest again in the PS4 version after playing the PC version but if you haven’t experienced this game, give it a go!

    • Yeah. They should have added ‘physics simulator’. That would be the real distinguishing factor. (Not that NMS doesn’t have physics modelling, just that it is not a main focus for it).

  • A. Will there be a difference between PC and PS4 versions?

    B. Like the new Skyrim coming out, will KSP support mods? I uh…kinda got addicted to Mechjeb…

    • Squad stated KSP may support mods in the future. But not atm, as console mods are in a kind of experimental stage.

  • Buying this regardless of price after watching the guys from Giant Bomb East do their videos on it. Can’t wait! Very excited

  • Would be nice as a cross buy/save for the vita/ps4

    • KSP, at least the way it is now, will not run on the Vita.
It’s one of the few games that bring even the most expensive PC’s to their limit, as the physics calculations create very high CPU load. Before version 1.1 was released I would have expected that this game would also perform terribly bad on the PS4, which has relatively low single thread performance. Luckily version 1.1 brought a huge performance boost (optimizations in the physics engine, multithreaded physics), so it will probably run pretty decent on the PS4. Bigger ships will probably nonetheless cause troubles, just as on the PC…

  • Can’t been waiting all year. It’ll be $39.99 same as steam

  • The guys from Basically Amazing podcast are covering it from head to toe next of them know everything about the game.
I had it on PC and I thought it was awesome. The PS4 version doesn’t look to be a graphical overhaul of any sort but I wouldn’t have expected that anyways.

  • I’ve heard about this game for so long but haven’t had a chance to play it yet. Glad it’s coming to PS4 so now I can :-)

  • I’m curious how they ported the controls from PC. For some things (e.g. placing maneuver nodes) mouse input is pretty handy, and I’m hoping that one can use the touchpad on the PS4 controller for those.

  • Is it possible to play in coop together with a friend or in miltiplayer?

  • This is a really unique and fantastic PC game. Glad to see it come to PS4, although would have to see how the control scheme is with it being such a good kb+mouse game because of the complex menus etc.

  • As a veteran KSP player, how has been playing on PC for years now. I can not wait for this to release Tues. By far one of the best games ever made. And for those asking about controls….I have played it extensively with the Steam Controller, and that worked great. I like the Playstation’s DS4 controllers much, much better then the Steam Controller and can’t wait to play it on them.

  • Amazing. Will it run at 60 fps?

  • I won’t sheel out another 30 bucks for KSP. The PlayStation really needs a cross-buy program with Steam.

  • I’m really interested in seeing how these controls are going to be set up. I really hope we’re able to use the mouse and keyboard when building ships either in the VAB or Spaceplane Hangar. If not, at least let us move a cursor with the touch pad, because dragging and dropping with the joystick is gonna feel tedious after a while. I definitely think I’ll enjoy flying spaceplanes and regular planes way more with the two joysticks. Oh man, and how simple is docking going to be with the joysticks…I can’t wait. The only downside is the lack of mods, but Squad has been doing exceptionally well with adding popular mods to the game with little or no tweaks.

  • Is this getting a disc release?

  • without mods, i really hope they add a way to see how much Delta V your ships have. otherwise every mission is a guessing game of will this thing make it to my destination.

    • It’s possible, you just gotta do the math yourself or use an online calculator and plug the values in yourself…not nearly as easy as a mod, but possible.

  • Where’s kerbal space program. Invoked on the store this morning and nothings there

  • When will this be on the store?

  • I have this game on PC but do i have to but it again i i want it on PS4?

  • I’ve been playing this and it’s awesome! Anybody know if there are any plans to add mouse and keyboard control? Playing this with a game pad feels wrong.

  • I’ve been looking for this game on the ps4 has it been released in the uk yet
