PlayStation Store: June’s Top Downloads

Welcome back! Last month, Battlefield 4 was the most-downloaded game on PlayStation 4, beating out Blizzard’s up-and-comer Overwatch, which took the runner-up spot. Dark Souls II led the charge on PS3, and Call of Duty: Black Ops 3’s “The Giant” was the biggest add-on for the month on both PS4 and PS3. Rockstar took the top three slots in the Classics category, followed closely by Psychonauts and Dark Cloud 2.

Now that we are well into the summer, which games do you think we’ll see topping these charts in the coming months?

  • I wonder why and how come GTA and Bully is always on this list? Are there people really still buying these games?

    • Well, gamer like trophy and discount, bully got some discount last few month

    • I wondered the same thing about Final Fantasy VII. It was #1 or #2 for months, years on end. And I could never help but wonder, “Who’s buying this game every month?”
Chances are, Classics do not sell as well as the commenters would make it out to seem, and selling a hundred copies, or maybe even a few dozen copies, earns it the top spot on the list. Same as the Vita list.

    • they were on sale. Whenever there is a PSN sale, theres a boost in downloads

    • Minecraft is the one that confuses me. It’s always in the top selling. Which means that it’s selling good ok, but that means other digital things are selling a bit low if Minecraft is always selling I dunno 50-200k a month… So… bah…

I heard that most games on steam sell like 35k copies. I wonder how much the average PSN game sells.

  • Justin,
Instead of looking at lists separated by systems, I would rather see a sales list that separates the new releases from the downloads due to price drops. To observe that battlefield 4 selling at less than $5 is “beating out” overwatch is kind of meaningless.

  • Good to see visual novels Steins;Gate and Zero Time Dilemma breaking into the Vita Top Ten

  • And to think that square didn’t want to release Adventures of Mana on the Vita. Great old school ARPG game play, and brings back a lot of nostalgia from my big grey brick of a Game Boy

  • I bet God Eater fans on PS4 decided to preorder GE2. Or do you not count games received for free?

    • You would be correct.
I pre-ordered GE2:RB on PS4 digitally, and got GE:R for free. Free games, same as PS+ games, are not counted as sales and are not included in top sales lists.
Which kinda sucks for Resurrection, but we’ll see in August how Rage Burst places on the charts on PS4.

    • I like what this ^ dude above me said

  • meanwhile in Europe we have on PlayStation classics top selling games are Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the dragon
this makes me believe European are the ones that really want Crash Bandicoot back, meanwhile NAmerican they just pretend when they say want Crash back lol

as always Americans brag about how great Uncharted is and Yet Uncharted was the top selling games on EU surpassing Overwatch, meanwhile
the American supported Mirror’s edge, Americans do you even try?
Sony is bringing Exclusives games thanks to European at this point, because AMericans buy only what Media Hype for them, really Sad

or they take seriously Clueless Gamer lol, I want to Play What Brien is playing lol

I hope PS4 AMERICANS start buying exclusives

how can North America be Sony’s biggest Market? when PS4 in EU outsold NA
I hope you’ll prove me wrong next time, but I know is not gonna happend lol

Respect to the North Americans that supported Exclusives

    • Do your research first if you want to go out and start accusing people of not showing support to certain franchises. Theres a reason it is not in the American top charts.

      1) people are moving from PS3 to PS4 and they cannot be played on that system. Also many owners who have a PS4 are owning a sony system for the first time, and did not have any other sony systems prior.

      2) You cannot play them on the vita because for whatever reason, they do not allow these games to be transferred to american vitas.

Because of these reasons, many people dont buy it because they cant play it. I myself already have these games from the psp days, but I can understand why many people would not purchase them because of the reasons listed above.

    • yes, you’re right
I must admit, I screwed up
      sorry guys
I did my research and there’s alot of Americans supporting exclusives :)
and No, I’m not being sarcastic

      Sorry :(

    • I may have the Nathan Drake Avatar but i found Uncharted Bore Boring. Its funny i played Mirrors Edge more then Uncharted 4. Hell i am on Chapter 4 and i have no urge to go back and play it.

    • Wow get off your high horse and screw off. Crash and Spyro are not playable on Vita or PS4. Why would we be buying them if we can’t play them on current gen machines?

    • NAm’s do want and respect some of the older games you mention. And yes, overwatch and the like have higher sales here than in EU. The reasons our claim to want vs actual sales are divergent, is due to age difference and vocality of these different age groups. Example; (speaking for NAm gamers, mainly) older gamer shouts for comeback of ‘insert classic game’ gamers like him agree, and then younger group of gamers agree. When these classics drop, elder gamers buy, but the larger group of younger gamers don’t, for whatever reasons._bandwagon, never really played it, trolls, etc. The largest group of gamers in NAm being 8-18, only really buy new “AAA” titles, and don’t care about the classics they vaguely remember even commenting on. So blame the younger masses, added with mix of young and old cynical trolls

    • And don’t forget the non gamer gamers.._ the worst of all. Usually own a system and a few games, but would rather watch others play on ytube or twitch or etc. These non gamers are usually most vocal about games they have no vested interest in playing. I don’t buy most classics bc I’ve already owned or still own. No one person, no group, speaks for all NAm you stereotyping snot

  • having a console with exclusives Is great for Sony and for Gamers
because Exclusives makes a console great and appealing

  • I’m so completely addicted to Odin Sphere Leifthrasir. Vanillaware has mastered 2D.

  • I respect the ones that bought Japanese games also

  • Only reason battlefield 4 is the most downloaded game was because it was under 5 bucks.

  • I agree with the sentiment that there should be a separate category for discounted games. The lists, as they are, are very misleading.

    • It’s not misleading. The list reflects exactly what the title says. So what if BF4 is number 1? Ya it sold a lot because it was on discount. And OW beat out another game that was $5, Hardline, a game that I actually purchased during the sale. Since you know what games were on sale in that month anyway, just imagine they weren’t on the list….

  • Not a single Indie on the Vita list. Yet Sony continues to claim that no one buys full releases from big publishers on the system. Sony is full of so much freaking crap

  • Hopefully Battlefield 4 can go on sale again. I really want to pick it up again instead of paying $30 on the PS Store if anything I’ll give it until Tuesday when they update the store to see if there will be any sales but I highly doubt it there will be but if BF4 is on sale then I’ll pick it up if not then I’ll just buy it for the $30
