Persona 5 will Take Your Heart on Valentine’s Day 2017

Take a deep breath. Ok. Ready? Persona 5 has a release date in the Americas. The Phantom Thieves are coming to take your heart on Feb. 14, 2017. Exhale.

And because this is basically the biggest title in ATLUS’ history, we HAD to go all out and do one of our renowned special editions. Exclusive to the PlayStation 4 version of the game, the Persona 5 “Take Your Heart” Premium Edition is going to arrive in a massive, collectible box, and will contain the following:

  • Soundtrack CD: A selection of music from Persona 5 by legendary series composer, Shoji Meguro, in a CD sleeve featuring special P5 artwork.
  • 4” Morgana plush: Morgana the Phantom Thieves’ cat is not just the mascot of the Phantom Thieves, but also a member – and also not just a cat! The premium edition includes an exclusive 4” plush of Morgana.
  • 64-page hardcover art book: This art book is full of concept sketches, character art, and more by character designer Shigenori Soejima.
  • SteelBook: As strong as a vault, the game disc for the PS4 will come specially packaged in a SteelBook collectible case, emblazoned with Persona 5 designs.
  • School bag: Designed after the traditional school bags in Japan, the exclusive replica bag comes complete with the Shujin Academy crest.

The Persona 5 “Take Your Heart” Premium Edition will be available for $89.99!

For those just interested in the PlayStation 4 version of the game, we’re releasing Persona 5 in a special SteelBook® Launch Edition! All pre-orders and a very limited number of launch copies will come in an official, collectible SteelBook case, adorned with glorious Persona 5 art (identical to the one in the “Take Your Heart” Premium Edition). It’ll be $59.99 at launch! Just a reminder, this will be exclusive to the PS4 version.

And for all the rumor-mongers out there, I’m just going to go ahead and confirm this here and now. (What better place than PlayStation.Blog?) Persona 5 is 100 percent still coming out on PlayStation 3. And at launch, it’ll be $49.99 and come in a regular game case.

Now, even after all that, if you still are thinking: “Why 2017!? You promised us 2015, and then 2016! Now it’s 2017?!!!?!” Well, the biggest factor in the 2017 release date is attention to detail. When we show off Persona 5 at E3 next week (Next week!), I think you’ll understand what we mean. We’re making sure every bit is in place. Persona has exponentially grown as a franchise, and considering that this is our first numbered sequel since 2008, ATLUS is taking its time to ensure this is the best possible experience.

I know the wait is agonizing, but I hope you’ll look forward to all the amazing news when Persona 5 infiltrates E3 next week!

  • Just managed to snag the “Take Your Heart” Premium Edition I can’t wait for next year :D

  • So, can we expect this release to be censored in any way? Lately censorship has been a huge topic and it wouldn’t do this title justice to cripple it beyond all reason…

    • It will be localized however our localizers see fit. But our track record for localizing games has been pretty exemplary in terms of not having to cut content. Yes, we had to edit several images for DT2 to avoid an AO rating, but we worked with the original artist and preserved most of what those scenes were trying to convey.

And before you throw #FE in my face, please note this very important difference: Persona 5 is published by ATLUS. #FE is not.

    • They already said its going to be censored, they’re censoring out the entire audio track.

Will I be able to pre-order off Amazon and receive the ps4 special edition?

  • i can live with the English dub because P3 and P4G VA are excellent but Not having the 5cd anniversary soundtrack is a turn off , i guess i will have to import.

  • First of all, it’s crazy how far this and Horizon is from coming out, we’ve barely passed halfway of 2016.

And secondly, no disrespect to the people who want the Japanese voices, but I for one prefer the English Dub because I hate having to read subtitles. So I just wanted to let you know that there are people out there who like English Dub. Cheers!

    • I love English dubs on everything. It would be nice to have an option in more games to pick between the languages.

  • @John Hardin

Considerng your BS antics. I’m surprised Atlus JPN even let your became PR of the US Branch.

Guess you take what you can get ┐(ツ)┌

    • Wow talk about a petty grudge man. Give it a rest.

    • What part of “Don’t be a jerk” don’t you understand? How about this? You don’t buy the game since your disgruntled or maybe you could present your argument in a calmer fashion without attacking people. You have no reason what so ever to question why someone has a specific job on this site who is doing nothing more than answering questions. Most people that post from companies don’t even offer replies yet John is giving us honest feedback. I wouldn’t be surprised if you got banned for being so rude.

  • Wow, John, you are great at fielding these ridiculously rude ‘tweener complaints. I thought only whatsis from COD PR had to deal with this level of abuse. And I haven’t seen him post here in a couple years.

Persona 5 is my most anticipated game of any year. Perfection takes time so I’ll be patient. P4G is hand-down, no dispute, the best game on Vita. I never liked turn-based until the perfect way it was implemented in P4G. I would prefer a dual audio option because I do think the original writing and voicing is best. Translation is always dilution, just a known symptom. I played Ni No Kuni in English and Japanese and the original cast was way better and the translation idiom choices were weak, at times.

That being said, Troy Baker is a voice-over god, and I adored his Kanji. He is equally Kanji, Joel and Sam Drake and anybody else. So I’m still ok with corporate decision but I would pay a lot for dual audio DLC. I pre-ordered the CE on Amazon and will also buy the digital, that’s how much I love Persona.

    • I got used to hearing Matt Mercer as Kanji (PQ onwards) and it’s weird hearing him as McCree now. (“It’s Hiiiiiigh noon” KANJI NO, DON’T DO IT!)

But yeah! This is a huge title for us, so attention to detail is paramount.

  • I would really appreciate dual audio. If I have to sit through another 60+ hour game of “JOONPAY-KOON,” “A-HA IS THIS OUR CHANCE?”, Inaba pronounced sixteen different ways, VA’s that can’t even pronounce their characters names correctly, English Teddie in general, and “JYB and Yuri Lowenthal voicing JYB and Yuri Lowenthal,” for another game I swear.

ESPECIALLY when you consider the AAA line-up the JPN voice cast is. And please, don’t BS me by claiming that the “AAA” ENG VA’s are even remotely on par. Especially if we get something like Ashly Burch or whatever. They don’t even begin to compare to Shūichi Ikeda, Joji Nakata, Sugita, etc.

Sega gives us dual audio. ArcSys give us dual audio. Capcom, IFI, NISA, and even Namco Bandai give us dual audio, and believe me Namco hates giving us anything without a price tag on it (Hello DLC). Why can’t YOU do it, outside of Atlus just not wanting to because they don’t bloody care about their NA customers.

Hell, even Square Enix is doing it.

    • Lol Nana Mizuki alone would eclipse whatever dub actress/actors they try to replace.

    • Yeah I’m really looking forward to whatever actress they get (that will probably not be one I like) to replace Rina Satou so I can have Makoto go from “I really like this character!” to “Please stop talking.”

  • LTSwordmastre360

I’d just like to say THANK YOU SONY/ATLUS/SEGA for making sure we get a PS3 version!!!!

I’ve been following the Persona series since the PS1 days and I’m glad to be able to get one last game in before I retire my collection with the PS3!!!!!

This will be a total day-1 purchase for me so long as nothing’s been censored or fiddled with like Tokyo Mirage. Otherwise, the second this has an Amazon sale, I’m disappearing with my copy and playing straight through to the end on Hard mode~

  • If you’re still hangin’ around John… please pass on the feedback that us in NA would like to have access to the full soundtrack collection as well, even if not a part of the P5 CE. I love soundtracks, but can’t typically afford to import.

  • megustadosmucho

    preordered :)

  • PatriotPrideBoy

Will there be a digital download option on the PS Store for both consoles?

  • This is the 1st I’ve seen of a company who takes time to reply to post, not like a few who puts in a few comments and calls it a day. Got my premium on Amazon.

    • :D

I mean, part of public relations is relating to the public right? Not sure why that’s a hard concept.

  • Btw, I would most of all love a special PS4 Persona 5 console, even if I had to import it. I cherish my cream-colored Ni No Kuni PS3 and would love a P5 PS4 counterpart.

  • FINALLY!! *breathes in, trying to catch my breath* Thank YOU guys! I have been eyeing the release date for Persona 5 and I got to say I am DEFINITELY getting this for my PS4! I’m so happy! *Does Victory Dance* ALRIGHT!!! YEAH!!

  • Any word on whether or not there will be Cross Save functionality? i have a PS3 and PS4 and they’re hooked up to different TV’s. I’m typically kicked from one of them by either the Wife or Toddler.

  • Really, really disappointing that so much time and so many resources are being wasted on a dub. It’s a game that takes place in Japan, but god forbid the Japanese characters in the game set in Japan actually speak the Japanese language.

It’s so sad that a game can get released in Japan and it’s considered “hip” and “cool” if there are English songs in the soundtrack. But don’t think for one second that it would be okay to release that game anywhere outside Japan in the only language that makes sense.

Was really hoping being acquired by Sega would have some positive benefits for Atlus, after all Sega released Valkyria Chronicles with the correct language included.

    • Agree. Seriously the franchise itself is from Japan. Every detail and hardwork came from Japan. All the quirks and stories are based off of Japanese culture itself.

If they can license Lotus Juice and all the Persona openings. So what’s their excuse for not including JPN voices? They’ll probably remove some of the Kanji and Hiragana characters in the stores in the game.

Look out, it might scare out the potential customers. For not being able to read Kanji and Hiragana >__>

If they can replace all the setting and the game itself from Japan to US. They would do it. Heck they try to did that with Persona 1, and that went well right? lol.

As for paid DLC. That’s been an option for years and they still refuse to use it. Considering he’s been pushing it so hardly since 11/24/13 and hasn’t produce any results in the last 3 years or so. I wouldn’t bet on it.

    • Yeah. I have no faith in Atlus as well. They don’t care as far as I am concerned. It will still sell and that is all that matters. A couple of studios have done Japanese voices via free DLC but I know Atlus won’t do it. I game like this I could never play in english. So I will import so I can play sooner and so Atlus won’t see a dime of my money. I don’t care what excuse they make up. They will never convince me of a good reason this game in 2016-17 no cannot have dual audio. Its not disc space. Its not money. Its not licensing issues. Its them just not giving a…

    • Exactly what I think. These games could come out sooner if they just subtitle them. So frustrating!

  • Can we play this version in Mexico?

    • Yep! We have distributors across LATAM, and you should be able to find both versions in Mexico :)

  • I’d like to have the Japanese voices. It is fun on the second play through of games. It is not a deal breaker, but it disappointing.

  • Only getting this if it has dual-audio. And if it doesn’t have it then at least add it as DLC.

  • Hey, I’ve got a crazy idea. How about putting English subtitles on the Japanese version and then I can just import the version I want? If you’re worried about cannibalizing sales, release it as a separate international edition that comes out roughly the same time as the NA version. My genius boggles the mind.

    • hey . i’ve got a crazy idea. how bout stop posting comments about it and just be paitent and wait and see if any news about japanese voices comes up in the 5-6 months. my genius boggles the greatest minds in the world.

    • 5-6 months after the japan release that is not from now.

  • Make dual audio a DLC. I dont care about your superb dubs.

  • Also I know that the box art is “not final” but I really have low hopes that it will look like the original. So I really hope you guys cna find a way not to “censor” the US box art. Thanks

  • Ive waited long enough on this game so I can wait a little longer for a discount due to the lack of dual audio.

Baffling how most of the other publishers go the extra mile to implant dual audio for even for the most obscure titles these days but Atlus cant even be arsed to implant it for one of the anticipated JRPG of the moment.

  • First of all, thanks for localizing the PS3 edition as well ATLUS,now i dont have to buy a new console to play this awesome game.

Now i have a question. Will the game be available in any other language besides English? I am not asking about dub,i am asking about translation, because you guys have a lot of fans here in Latin America but its hard for new players to play your games because of the language barrier.

If you need help on the translation deparment you could ask SEGA or maybe ACE team.

    Greetings from Argentina.

  • I don’t care how good is your dub. I want to hear Lelouch and Misaka’s voice. Why can’t a triple A game have dual audio in 2017? Don’t give me hope with that bs “for now thing”. We all know you hate jp voice so much that you even removed it in p4 ultimax.

    • It’s typically a licensing thing. Some Japanese voice companies charge extortionate fees to allow their clients to be published in games outside of Japan.

I don’t know if that’s the case here, but I’ve heard some pretty crazy horror stories of the costs associated with the licensing.

  • The year is packed with a lot of JRPGs, so I’m super OK with the delay. Also, it’ll launch really close to my birthday <3
Both Persona 3 and 4 are on my list of best games I've ever played, so I can't wait!

  • My friend Pre-Ordered this at school, I’m doing the same the moment I get home.

  • Will u be releasing the trailers with the English dub audio sometime soon?
So we know what to expect with the English dub

  • No JPN voice, No support!
    Gonna stick to JPN version~

    • Really your boycotting a game just because of a small option

    • That is your choice, but I remind you that P4G english voice over was really amazing. Who knows, P5 voice over may be even better then JP.

    • @RenaChu

P4G’s voice acting was not amazing.
It was awful and Atlus US couldn’t even bother to have a large number of the original cast return.
They don’t care about dub quality, they just want to have it as cheap as possible.

  • Yay! A plushie!! ^o^ It’s so adorable. And a plus for a cat!!!

  • No dual audio, again? Guess being bought by SEGA didn’t help their budgets at all. I’ll stick with buying NISA, KT, and even Compile Heart games before ATLUS ones. Playing the Tales series in Japanese was a unsuspected surprise. if Nintendo realizes that adding Japanese audio is a must from their JRPGs then it’s probably a good time for ATLUS to do more dual audio for more games.

P5 is on the very bottom of my list now.

  • I seriously hope that you guys haven’t delayed again so the release date would match with Valentine’s Day just because of the whole “Take your heart” theme of the game.

  • Tbh, #FE and Apocalypse seemed like they’d satisfy my SMT craving for the year. Don’t mind the wait at all, as long as the game is amazing.
I do hope Atlus can pull for a duel audio since many fans want it. Regardless, thanks for still making a PS3 version, some of my friends will definitely be glad about that news!

  • I’m looking forward to this.

I do have a question in regards to the special edition. Firstly, when is it available for Pre-order? Also, will there be a set number to avoid the trap of scalpers on ebay?

  • Let’s see,

    – delayed half a year after Japan, given no explination of why
    – no dual audio

uh..thanks? Good to see you guys never change.

  • Pedro408sanjose

It doesn’t say Only On Playstation on the cover. Will it be coming to other platforms?

    • Doubt it. A lot of games in Japan that are exclusive to PS don’t even have the label as Sony isn’t involved with them so it doesn’t really mean anything.

They could have just took the Japanese Box art and edited morgana and the esrb logo, and kept the original print.

Persona 4 Dancing All Night didnt have the label in Japan, But has it in NA/EU.

    • Basically, Atlus decided to make it exclusive, Sony didn’t PAY them to make it exclusive. So they don’t put ‘only on playstation’ on it, but Atlus could someday make the decision to release it elsewhere. It’s just not likely.

  • How come the PS3 version is cheaper than the PS4 version

  • The availability of the premium “Take Your Heart” edition? I preordered it at EB Games and they said the hadn’t been given an allocation. I don’t want to spend $100+ Canadian to find out my Preorder has to be cancelled due to limited stock

  • Hey Atlus, are you still there? maybe you can solve the dual audio demand if you can selling it on DLC? If not, try make the effort seaching good dub, really! the voice actors must be and be feeling the caracter and synchronize really well, I’m a bit worried cus persona Q and Dancing all night fell down in dub quality or Fire Emblem Fates its an example of reeaaaaaly awful dub.

  • Already pre ordered my Take Your Heart edition! This may be the first CE I got to pre order without it going out of stock in a moments’ notice! :D

  • Been looking forward to P5 for a long time. P4G had such amazing voice over, my expectations are very high.

Unfortunately I am extremely worried about the game with all the industry censorship lately. Even Atlus’ own Tokyo Mirage Sessions had some pretty extreme censorship. I feel if this happens with Persona it could really alienate me and ruin my whole experience with the game :(

  • Extremely disappointing all around. Sounds like another case of companies forcing their own views and mentalities on their costumers. You say the spoilers that WILL happen due to this giant gap in releases aren’t that big a deal, we say they do ruin a big aspect of the experience for us. You say your English dubs are amazing (when you don’t even know the English VAs yet) and we don’t need dual audio, we say we really want it and would settle for sub only release if it meant coming out closer to JP release. You say the delay isn’t a big deal because there are “SO MANY” other JRPGs coming out in the fall, when many of us just care about THIS RPG and weren’t really counting on any others.

I know Atlus JP has a lot of the blame here with how they don’t give Atlus USA much material to work with or push them to get a near simultaneous release of their biggest game in years, but all I know is that it really sucks to be a fan of Atlus games lately. I don’t think there’s any level of “attention to detail” or crappy bags that could make up for an additional half a year’s wait and guaranteed spoilers. I’ll take my chances importing, which I’ve never had to do for any game ever.

    • Oh my god you took the words right out of my mouth,i really don’t care about other games,I will drop any game i am playing for persona 5 ANY GAME LIKE FF15,so in other words i just want the game that they promise me nearly eight years ago.

  • Had to pre-order it. Never played a Persona game before Golden. After beating that game had to buy P3…. and 1, 2 IS, 2 EP, Dancing all night, Arena. Just wish to get Q on Vita some day. (A man can dream)

  • Couple of questions;

[1] When will a release date be announced for Australia?

[2] Will this collectors edition be coming to Australia?

[3] Does this delay have anything to do with NIS America cutting ties with Atlus?

    • John said the finer details of the delay will be at E3. Not sure what they are up to personally. My best guess would have to do with keeping certain features that would normally be difficult with Japanese referencing.

    • I just straight up bought on Amazon, changed the currency to NZ and bam

  • I hope this game’s ESBR is TEEN.

  • 2017… lol. Was expecting a delay, but… suppose that gives me time to possibly play through the first game.

  • I sure can’t wait for Ashley Burch and Yuri Lowenthall again! Thank you based Atlus US you always have our best interests at heart.

Nah but seriously Atlus US you are completely incompetent and given the amount of delays the game went through in development there’s absolutely no excuse for this to not have a world wide launch.
On top of the fact that you are basically the only localization branch that doesn’t provide dual audio shows you’re downright lying about all the BS you say about not being able to have dual audio.
We all know you’re just cheap and want to hire the same 10 voice actors you found on the streets. If you’re forcing english only you better be paying top dollar for english voice acting, because Atlus JP sure is.

John Hardin i’d recommend getting your head out of your ass and stop talking down to people lest you be out of a job soon.

  • I got my copy of Persona 5 “Take Your Heart” Premium Edition Pre-ordered!! I can’t wait!!! More JRPGs like this need to come west

  • Persona 5 has experienced a major delay in North America. The game will now be released in 2017. Gamers in the U.S. will likely be very furious. The video below provides more details on the delay
