Survive a Monster-filled Mansion in My Night Job, Out May 17 on PS4

Cue a movie-like soundtrack reminiscent of 80’s night flicks, while a desperate, middle-aged man relentlessly fends off hordes of invading monsters inside a big old mansion, all the while gathering dozens of scattered survivors and guiding them to the relative safety of the mercenary rescue chopper.

That’s the part-time job you’ll find yourself in when you play My Night Job on PS4.

My Night Job, PS4

The gameplay is fast and fluid, and focused on pure arcade action. There’s no progressing storyline or successive stages. You are inside one big mansion. You need to keep the monsters from overflowing and destroying the rooms, rescue at least 100 survivors, and get the hell out of there before it’s too late!

Mixing 80’s Horror and Arcade Gameplay

Even though I was in the process of creating a fast-paced, score-based arcade game where tight mechanics and game balancing are king, I always kept in mind the old horror movies I watched on TV when I was younger — and the cheesy, eerie tension they brimmed with. That’s how the setting for the game came to be: an enormous house overflowing with references from more than 30 of those movies, coupled with the familiar feeling of a labyrinthine endless night escape, with just a tiny amount of hope shining through for those skilled and brave enough.

More than 60 different objects have been designed as weapons, so you can use cutlery, arcade controllers, golden axes, fish, or umbrellas in combat. You’ll also get special items when you guide hidden special survivors to the chopper: a kitten that obliterates all monsters in a room, a reanimation syringe, and more.

The horror movies were a very rich source of inspiration.

Bringing Trophies to a New Level

Trophies are actually useful in-game, too! Deep inside the mansion, there’s the trophy room where ten of the shiny trophies you earn are displayed. You can activate and deactivate up to two of them at the same time, with each of them toggling gameplay modifiers in real-time. Enhanced running speed for you or the survivors, 50% more HP, temporary invincibility while transformed into the demon clown (yes, you can be a demon clown for a few seconds), and so on.

So accept the job, discover all the secrets in the mansion, survive the night, and show off your hi-score on the online leaderboards!

  • I really like the look and what you describe of the play! Typo in the final photo, “WALKED FOR MORE *THAT* 1000 STEPS”

      Hey there! Really glad you like it so far, we are very fond of the high level of detail our artists managed to achieve, while remaining true to the top arcades of the nineties (no sprite rotation or scaling, unique assets for every room and so on). I really hope you also enjoy the mechanics and gameplay controls once you try the game. We gave our best to achieve the same level of detail and dedication on that front. And about the typo, we corrected it in time for the final submission to PSN so it is all right now. Thanks!

    That’s a very cool way to make trophies interactive. Never seen that before. Hopefully more games like this can do something like that in the future. Looks fun!

    • I agree, neat idea with the trophies!

      Thanks for the comment! I came up with the idea for interactive trophies because I myself am not a big trophy hunter, and I always thought to myself “how would I be more motivated to go after trophies in a game?” Well I finally got my chance to test a new concept, and hope everyone enjoys this new approach! First seen on MyNightJobTM ;)

  • Looks kinda of fun but I’ve been burned by this kind of game before, would rather have it on PS Plus

      As an avid gamer for 27 years and counting, I can relate. I have spent a huge amount of money on truly great games, but also on games that I never really enjoyed playing. I hope MNJ fits into the first category, as me and the whole team have put a lot of dedication, talent and heart into it.
      I can try and help you decide telling you the kind of experience and scope you will get from it:
      – The main point is not combat itself, but achieving the balance between rescuing a lot of survivors and running around defending the rooms. Think the first two Dead Rising games mixed with the “Conquest” mode in some multiplayer games;
      – The game is ONE HUGE MANSION only, much like some classic old horror games, but the focus is on experimenting and finding the strategy that best suits you, so there’s lots of replayability. Also, add in the trophy system modifiers and the untold little details to be found;
      – Gameplay is very keen on arcade feeling. So fast simple action and a lot of room for player skills, and no messing around.
      – The soundtrack is true to the movies from the 80s, and the graphics are very detailed.
      Also, there’s some awesome gameplay videos floating around like this one:

  • This sounds really fun. Nice work on the trophy integration. I have never seen anything like that before. This is now on my radar. Thanks for your hard work and bringing the game to the PS4!
