Battleborn: Open Beta Starts Today, Watch the Bootcamp Trailer

PS4 players: It’s time to unleash your inner badass – the Battleborn Open Beta begins today on PS4! Check out this post for everything you need to know about the Open Beta.

Battleborn

Dive solo into Battleborn’s Story Mode or bring some friends for up to 5-player co-op in two full episodes, “The Algorithm” and “Void’s Edge.” Then challenge other players to duke it out in two Competitive Multiplayer Modes: Incursion and Meltdown.

In the Open Beta, you’ll start with 7 unlocked heroes and you’ll unlock more as you rank up and complete objectives. Experience the natural progression of the game as you unlock heroes, skins, taunts, titles, and more. Test out Battleborn’s multiple progression systems where playing either Story Mode or Competitive Multiplayer Modes will earn you XP towards temporary Helix augmentations as well as persistent Command Rank and Character Rank levels.

Battleborn

As a thank you to PS4 players who participate in the Open Beta, you will receive the first Battleborn DLC Pack 1 and instant access to the 26th character, Alani, upon release. In addition, PS4 players will have access to the Battleborn hero Toby (the mech-driving penguin!) during the Open Beta.

An Introduction to the End of the Universe

The end of the universe isn’t pretty. Hell, here in the Solus System, we’re looking down the barrel of extinction. The Varelsi are consuming stars – whole stars! – while we’re fighting amongst ourselves over the few remaining table scraps of existence. And if we ever catch up with Rendain, that treacherous jerk will get what’s comin’ for selling out every sentient being left.

Nihilistic robots, dwarves, space luchadores, interstellar soldiers, penguin-piloted murder machines and lots of others, all teaming up to save what’s left of the Universe… that’s Battleborn.

For a more in-depth breakdown on what Battleborn is all about, check out the Battleborn Bootcamp Trailer above!

The fight to save the last star in the universe begins May 3, 2016.

  • Looking forward to trying out the beta tonight!

  • Looking forward to this! Downloading now…

  • Awesome trailer,I’m lookin forward to try the beta tomorrow that I have that whole day free, never gave much attention to Battleborn cuz I always thought it was an online-only game but looks like its not…nice of you guys to add 2 story missions on the beta. And wow 5 player co-op?…nice!

BTW I must say…good job with the characters.

  • Won my first two matches. Seems pretty good. But will I have to be online to play split screen story mode?

  • I don’t get why this game isn’t a free-to-play game, and then just have the $60 version be a physical copy + season pass.

I think you’d make so much more money that way because all the people who don’t have PS+ and can’t play Destiny or the Division or Plants Versus Zombies can play your game and give you money. People who only have $10-20 a month to spend on games, can play your game and put down $5 here, or $8 there. Proper free-to-play seems like a no brainer to be honest.

As long as you can earn everything in game, (though it will take forever) and you can buy unlockable skins… it gives people a reason to buy stuff, but not feel like buying stuff is mandatory otherwise you’ll fail miserably.

    • No, thats a terrible idea

    • You know it have full, single player campaign, with story, raid-like bosses, full VA etc.
It’s not just another 100% online MOBA/hero shooter.
It have one in, but it also have $60 game on top of it.

    • It’s good to see a game that hasn’t caved into the f2p market. Because you have only $10 – $20 to spend on games monthly isn’t an excuse to devalue any title that has content on different levels.

You have enough choices for f2p games, go play Warframe or Smite and grind away to heart’s content. Some of us don’t want to spend hours on hours grinding for meaningless progression

      This is not vanilla MOBA.

  • I’ve had my Open Beta client sitting here for over half an hour in queue while I break for lunch & it’s yet to find a match. Funny how it says I can’t do anything else (including loadout changes) while the game forces me into this queue. Even funnier yet, Gearbox has a pre-order button on the start menu. Seems they want us to pre-order a game we know little about & can’t even get a small preview of, unless we pre-order to get into a match.

Nope, I won’t be your guinea pig, Gearbox. This is a dealbreaker for me.

  • I’ve been trying to get in a match for 5 hours now with no luck. deleting it now. you failed at a first impression not a fan of $60 multiplayer only games anyways. thank you for reminding me of that gearbox!

  • Story mode feels very unfriendly towards close range characters, but overall I love the commentary in the game. Also I like the choice of voice actors for it as well. Really pushing me to try and buy this.

Of course I think I am playing this game wrong by taking the more single player approach, but I really wanted to try this. Overall great job guys, I am seriously considering getting a game in a genre I mostly ignore.

    • Beat the first boss solo and I love the slightly random comments. The characters all seem interesting. I will probably end up getting a physical copy. This beta has been a blast so far. I still feel like it seems a little more geared towards long range characters though. Trying to get a feel for that right balance.

  • I waited in the queue for 20 minutes, played a little solo story mode then deleted the beta.

    • Hoping for a better impression from Overwatch. Hopes are much higher having Blizzard behind it.

    • I didn’t have to wait 20 mins but I played part of a match and realized that the gameplay was utter crap. Enemies are at best weird. Not enjoyable or quirky, weird. The hit detection is crap. The only saving grace was the narration but it gets droned out by all the nonsense occurring on the screen. Deleted it and Dead Star.

  • Didn’t like it at all. Borderlands 2 looks and plays better. Plus I despise when a game forces you to always be online even if all you play is single campaign mode.

    • Most people who play games (console, PC, phone) also have internet, so this “always online” complaining is nonsense.

    • There’s a great big world outside of the US, where internet is unreliable, expensive and quite limited. So no it’s not nonsense pointing out that having single player campaigns being forced to be always online is ridiculous. But quite frankly when it comes to this game, I don’t care as it was quite bad.

  • wow all these cranky people in this thread and I’m sitting here as somebody who hasn’t heard much about this game and just played it today. Just preorded the digital delux because I’m having a blast – hope it does alright at launch and that people don’t shun it because beta launch had server congestion (because that’s never happened before in the history of anything…)

  • I don’t like this game at all, but I gotta say – people y’all are being salty as heck. It’s a BETA, not a demo. It exists to stress test their servers and make changes to things at the last minute; you know this, right? Probably not, since most big publishers nowadays just toss the word “beta” out when they mean “timed pre-release multiplayer demo”, but still – school yourselves. Betas are supposed to be broken. You’re getting access to them for free to test stuff for these companies..
