Hello everyone. As we continue our celebration of the PlayStation 20th anniversary, we want to take a look back at the heritage that helped propel us to the brand that we are today. PlayStation 2 holds a special place in the hearts of many gamers who have fond memories of playing some of the biggest franchises in gaming.

PS2 remains the best-selling console of all time, thanks in part to the revolutionary tech built into the box, such as support for the DVD format for games and movies, a powerful graphics processor, and specialized chips for particle effects and physics. Above and beyond the technical innovations that made PS2 stand apart is the huge catalog of amazing and much loved games, such as Dark Cloud, Twisted Metal: Black, and the PS2-era classic Grand Theft Auto games, Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, just to name a few.

Fan-Favorite PS2 Games Launching on PS4 Tomorrow

To celebrate our PS2 heritage, I’m excited to announce that starting tomorrow, you will be able to purchase and play PS2 games on your PS4 via PlayStation Store in the Americas and Europe.

We are getting things started with a bang by launching with eight fan favorites tomorrow:

  • Dark Cloud — $14.99
  • Grand Theft Auto III — $14.99
  • Grand Theft Auto: Vice City — $14.99
  • Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas — $14.99
  • Rogue Galaxy — $14.99
  • The Mark of Kri — $14.99
  • Twisted Metal: Black — $9.99
  • War of the Monsters — $9.99

Having these titles available on PS4 is already incredibly exciting for us, but we did not stop there. We have brought these titles forward to meet today’s gaming standards by adding Trophy support! Each title’s Trophy set has been carefully developed in conjunction with feedback from the original creators to be sure that they capture the spirit and feeling of each game.

Also, you will be able to experience all of these PS2 games like never before — in up-rendered 1080p with the features you expect from a PS4 game including Remote Play, Live Broadcast, Share Play, Activity Feeds, and Second Screen support for game manuals with PlayStation Vita or PlayStation App.

And if you’re attending PlayStation Experience in San Francisco this weekend, you’ll be able to play these PS2 games on PS4 at the show floor:

PEOPLE WILL BUY THIS GAME. Price it at $60 and people will STILL buy this game? I’m convinced you guys just don’t like money. At least tell us why you can’t???

    So I’m supposed to pay more money for games I ALREADY own? Well I don’t know about you, but I think the Xbox One has a better deal than that. FREE! Why would I pay for something that I already Own? I can understand if i didn’t own the game, but if I have a physical copy of it, then i see no reason to buy it again. Poor decision Sony. If you can’t put Ps2 dics in and play them, then you shouldn’t have made the Ps4 “Compatible” with Ps2 games. End of Rant.

    PuhLEASE put Silent Hill 2, 3, 4, MAINLY 4 SINCE IT WASN’T INCLUDED IN HD COLLECTION ON PS3! Silent Hill: Origins and Shattered memories. Resident evil 4, Code Veronica, Outbreak 1&2 with online play restored. Simpsons Hit and Run. PuhLEASE add backward compatibility with PsONE classics and would it kill ya to make PsONE and PS2 Classics cross buy? i know these are upgraded versions for ps4 but i already own a hell of a lot of these such as the GTA games on ps3… BEYOND!

      I think part of the reason is the original publishers had more to do with the PS2 and PSOne classics on PS3. This time Sony is the one updating them instead from the sounds of it. Not that part of me does not feel the same way, but I think that could be the reasoning behind this.

    I want to ask what the point of the most wanted ps2 game poll was. Socom 2 clearly won but yet the 2nd place game gets confirmed.

    Sony once again sweeping socom under the carpet now that’s a shocker.

    Socom 2 with online servers sony please that would make our day.

    Plz sony hear me out. We need Dragon ball z budokai tenkaiechi 3. That game will bring so much joy to the playstation world. That game is the best. The other dbz games are ok but plz bring that game back. That would maka alot of people’s day.

    I wish I could use my Rogue Galaxy PS2 disc, but I can still play it on PS3 though without Trophy support and not truly in 1080p. That game still looks fantastic though on PS3. Though $15 is a steal for a game that used often sells for $22 and up. Dark Cloud I do not own currently, but I did years ago. Might go through it again seeing as how I managed to miss the only permanenetly missable in the game. Did not feel like running through it again since I was super mad about that. However it has been years since then.

    It is a bit frustrating that it has to be a rebuy and that we cannot use PS2 discs for it as far as I can tell. Though some of the titles on this list are rarer and not even available on PS3 as PS2 classics for download. Add Xenosaga and .hack// and we can party.

      Wait KoF 2000 is on that list for coming soon. I want all the KoF games, especially if it allows for arcade stick support. You know boost the enthusiasm for King of Fighters XIV even though that game is getting some undeserved hate just from the new graphics style.

    I literally cried when I saw War of the Monsters. I have such great memories of playing that game with my brothers. I never thought I’d be able to play it again. I love you Shu and I love you Sony <3

    easy answer… the games I already own digitally (Ps2 Classics) and on disc…

    I could scrap share services(broadcast, shareplay, etc), remote play, and trophy sets… I don’t care as long as the games are playable…

    I understand its hard to make disc games compatible (maybe “installing” them on disc or something along those lines)… but the digital ones is quite an abuse not to…

    please… reconsider this…

    I’m in for Dark Cloud and Rogue Galaxy. I already own the Mark of Kri PS2 Classic! We should be able to transfer PS2 Classics for the PS3 licenses over to the PS4!

    I own a bunch of PS2 Classics on PS3, that I’d love to have been able to play on my PS4, which is now my primary console!

    Personally, I would love to see the Megaman X collection on here. Would probably be hard, but oh so very worth it. Besides that, I would really love Yu-gi-oh Duelist of the Rose to be on here. Its the most unique Yu-gi-oh game I’ve played, and I love it to death. Star Ocean Till the end of Time would also be a really high pick, and with Star Ocean 5 coming out, it would only make sense. Really good job with Rouge Galaxy though, that one is a gem.

    I hope you give us the option to rebuy some of the PS2 classics we bought over the years at a discounted price when it arrives to the PS4 (ie. Twisted Metal Black).
