Hello everyone. As we continue our celebration of the PlayStation 20th anniversary, we want to take a look back at the heritage that helped propel us to the brand that we are today. PlayStation 2 holds a special place in the hearts of many gamers who have fond memories of playing some of the biggest franchises in gaming.

PS2 remains the best-selling console of all time, thanks in part to the revolutionary tech built into the box, such as support for the DVD format for games and movies, a powerful graphics processor, and specialized chips for particle effects and physics. Above and beyond the technical innovations that made PS2 stand apart is the huge catalog of amazing and much loved games, such as Dark Cloud, Twisted Metal: Black, and the PS2-era classic Grand Theft Auto games, Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, just to name a few.

Fan-Favorite PS2 Games Launching on PS4 Tomorrow

To celebrate our PS2 heritage, I’m excited to announce that starting tomorrow, you will be able to purchase and play PS2 games on your PS4 via PlayStation Store in the Americas and Europe.

We are getting things started with a bang by launching with eight fan favorites tomorrow:

  • Grand Theft Auto III — $14.99
  • Grand Theft Auto: Vice City — $14.99
  • Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas — $14.99
  • Rogue Galaxy — $14.99
  • The Mark of Kri — $14.99

  • War of the Monsters — $9.99

Having these titles available on PS4 is already incredibly exciting for us, but we did not stop there. We have brought these titles forward to meet today’s gaming standards by adding Trophy support! Each title’s Trophy set has been carefully developed in conjunction with feedback from the original creators to be sure that they capture the spirit and feeling of each game.

Also, you will be able to experience all of these PS2 games like never before — in up-rendered 1080p with the features you expect from a PS4 game including Remote Play, Live Broadcast, Share Play, Activity Feeds, and Second Screen support for game manuals with PlayStation Vita or PlayStation App.

    Seriously, the overhauling these games’re getting is, honestly, more than I expected out of Sony, not to mention the newcomers (Dark Cloud? Rogue Galaxy?). Would love to see the Xenosaga set (uncensored, yeah?) up; Persona 3 FES (what with the “definitive” experience being split between that and P3Portable); heck, maybe Drakengard (Drakengard!) could rise its maligned head again.

    ‘course, my big wish would be seeing this treatment extend to PS3 and Vita/PSTV, but, y’know, pipe dreams. Up there with Cross-Buy on ’em.

    Hi dear Sony there is a big community of about 100,000 or more fans asking you guys to bring to games which they are dragon ball z budokai tenkaichi 3 and dragon ball z infinite world. We are the dragon ball z community and we have been waiting for this game to come to any old gen and current gen system, you guys have the power to do it. You guys will win as well as we will win so is a win win situations. Plz we are begging you guys.

    I love this. I’d like some Dragon Ball Z titles (Budokai 3, Infinite World, and Tenkaichi 2) if that’d be possible. Infinite World/Budokai 3 are a must though

      Heck I would buy the Melty Blood games fully in Japanese if you would put them up. PS2 had one of the largest fighting game libraries out there and PS3/PS4 continued that. Also all of those awesome RPGs. Star Ocean V comes out either next year or the year after. So Till the End of time would be super awesome.

    Is the quality in the trailer the same quality we can expect from the games if we download them tomorrow? If so, count me out! HD Quality my @$$. Full screen with black bars, dark picture quality, and blurry? No thanks! I’ll try vice city tomorrow and if it’s not up to par like converting to widescreen, and increased visuals then it’ll be the last time you rip me off Sony! I just bought San Andreas on ps3 2 days ago, so I hope I can download it on ps4 for free, but I’m not holding my breath.

    Not even so much as a discount for those of us who bought the games we already own again on PS3 and with only minor enhancements expected to buy for a 3rd time again on PS4.

    Ohh, I was waiting for this for so long, but… 15 bucks for a 15 year old game? That’s obviously too bold, $9.99 is the top line for those games, even classic masterpieces, seriously, we get fresh decent games on Steam when discounts for less prices. And then another thing. Why no disc compatibility? I mean, you just put a disc in your PS4, the system recognizes it and starts downloading the game, you can play as long the disc is in – simply. I personally don’t like buying games digitally, I still prefer to buy a physical copy, even though I don’t have a PS2 nor games to it, I’d make a collection of PS2 favorites on a shelf along PS4 boxes.
