This week, we celebrated the 20th anniversary PlayStation’s launch in North America. Now, it’s your turn. Tell us — what’s the best original PlayStation game of all time? Cast your vote(s) below by next Tuesday, September 15th at midnight Pacific Time.

See below for a starter list of games, but note: you can submit two votes, and you can write in an answer if you don’t see it in the list below.

    Brigandine Legend of Forsena is my favorite game, not just on the PSX, but of all time. When I saw there was a list, I was surprised to see it there. I also own Brigandine Grand Edition which is a remake released only in Japan. The two games are amazing and they’re both game that I can sit down and put down hours into no matter how long it’s been since I’ve played them. Whether I just got done finishing the game I can still pick it up the next day and enjoy playing from a new game because of how the game plays.

    Metal Gear Solid’s intro sequence has got to be one of the most iconic moments in video game. I remember I spent more than 30 minutes trying to get to that damn lift.

    Never owned / played PlayStation (One). Since I played and thoroughly enjoyed Metal Gear Solid on GameCube and had played original Grand Theft Auto on PC, I gave my vote to those.

    It’s so unfair to pick only two of those, there are easily 5 which I consider into my all time favorite list and many other GREAT games, it is impossible for me to pick only two. :(

    I vote for Castlevania: Symphony of the Night & The Legend of Dragoon. Although there are so many wonderful games on PS,these two left the deepest impression in my mind.

    I got to say, WWF Smackdown was a game that completely changed wrestling games. Even the current WWE games (2k15) is a very similar gamestyle and took a lot of the original code with it. Smackdown was the reason I got my first PlayStation

    LOTD was my first large RPG I tackled in my gaming career much less the PS’s life cycle and it’s one of the major reasons I got into gaming in the first place. Some elements are dated but there’s so much story and character to give new life to that a remaster, prequel, possibly sequel if you are creative enough would be a godsend to not only me but the many others who fell in love with this game. I know it didn’t score well for critics and honestly I can’t attest to what they were thinking while performing the review seeing as me and many others rate it as high 9’s to perfect 10’s. Yes, nostalgia is a part but the game did very unique things and just gave a level of enjoyment and pride in a game that I’ve not felt for many other games. (I love Final Fantasy and that still falls short.). As an original IP the dark story and plot twists were some defining characteristics that made it stand from the others. I missed these nuances while I played as a kid and now I understand these points and this game needs time in the spotlight. I am 22 now and without a doubt in my mind if a new or remastered LOTD did come into existence I would pre-order and count down the days until I can experience it all again. Thank you for your time.

    As I was reading through the comments I was sad to see that not one person voted or commented about Oddworld:Abe’s Oddysee. To me it is the best ps1 game ever next to games like MGS. The game is great but never gets the credit it deserves like batman movies. The closest the series got to popularity was the remake played by Jacksepticeye. The reason has to do with the realistic story it makes you wonder if America will start chopping up people to save profits and I’m talking about you McDonald’s. The cutscenes look like they came from the early ps2 and the gameplay is unique save others or let them get killed. Did anyone else think the play station sign before any game was kind of creepy as a kid. I thought the little intro theme was the type of Sony to make you run like hell. Not to mention that after it was the dark game Oddworld . Just saying if you haven’t played play it now

      Oddworld got lots of votes. But the competition here was brutal. I was thinking about pulling out the numbers and throwing it into a quickie breakdown so you can see visually.

    Cant help but feel the whole kojima/kinami situation and mgsv coming out has a lot to do with the number one spot

      While MGSV and Kojima/Konami mess likely did have a bit to do with the results another factor is that MGS stands alone. Unlike Final Fantasy VII which competes with 2 other major entries in the Final Fantasy franchise as well as a popular spin-off entry, MGS doesn’t have another major release on PS1 outside of the VR missions, and its not nearly of the same caliber/style of game. Whereas there are many fans that love FF7-9 and tactics, and find that they have to split their vote between the different entries in the franchise.

    While I don’t disagree with the list of games necessarily (cause hey, everyone has their opinions and there were several great games for the original PlayStation so it’s hard to choose), I feel like there may have been a serious skew of the results because of the timing of the poll. It’s likely that for some people, the reason that Metal Gear Solid (A very SOLID contender for that number one spot regardless; pun mildly intended) was their choice is because MGSV recently came out and therefore the series as a whole was in the forefront of most people’s minds at the time this poll began.
    Do I think that would have changed the results? Maybe not. MGS was a fantastic game and would have been one of my choices as well. I just feel like it’s just as likely that this poll may be reflecting some unintentional bias purely because of the timing.

      Hard to say. It certainly helped, but I’d expect to see MGS represented very well. I was expecting a big fight between MGS and FFVII and I wasn’t disappointed – the numbers were *very* close.

    How the hell did Crash Bandicoot 3 make the list over the second game? It’s like saying you’d put Uncharted 3 on the Best PS3 list over Uncharted 2.

    Other than that, the top three are great choices.

    Dear SCEA,

    I was really glad to see Legend of Legaia on this list. It was a great game, and better then the PS2 sequel. Please, before the PS3 rides off into the sunset, make Legend of Legaia 2 (3) for PS3. The camping and cooking from the sequel should be kept, but make it way more like Legend then Duel Saga. May I suggest getting the old Prokion/Contrail teams together from the first game? Then make sure to make Legaia 4 for PS4!

    And please encourage Square-nix to produce Musashi 3 for PS3, and then Musashi 4 for PS4. Legaia and Musashi should be PlayStation institutions appearing on every home console!

    Now if we could only BUY/PLAY digital PS1 classics on PS4, that’d be great Sony. Seeing as how digital PS1 classics are presently cross buy/play on ALL playstation systems capable of connecting to PSN (PSP, Vita, PS3) EXCEPT the newest and most powerful PS4.

      Yeah i’ve been waiting on this since PS4 launch actually. Over the years I have purchased and acquired a rather large library of fantastic digital PSOne classics like this via my PSP, Vita, and PS3 which all allowed me to access, download, and play them on all 3 systems via cross buy.

      Unfortunately i had to sell my systems due to financial hardships and eventually upgraded to PS4, my now only Sony system. I just assumed they’d all still be accessible (cross buy/play) just as they were on the other 3 systems. Still very disappointed they’re not. Hoping this feature gets added soon, and NOT by charging me to RENT the PSOne classics through PS Now that I already purchased via my unified PSN account.

    OK Sony, this YOUR own blog, if I can say this here and you see it then I give up. So the winner was MGS1 yes? How about you get in talks with Konami and make MGS HD with trophy support? Seen as Konami have come out and siad they won’t be making another large scale MGS game after MGS V, their only option for the franchise now really is HD remaster of MGS1 soooooo erm…. get on that?
    You already have FF7 HD in the works so thats all good, now we come to Crash Bandicoot. I don’t know who has the rights anymore, but find out who they are and contact them about a FULL HD collection that includes not just the 2 winners but Crash Bandicoot 1,2,3, Bash and CTR, again with trophy support as 5 separate games. You would make me and countless others so happy and it all I persoanlly hope for when I watch any conference from whether it be E3, Gamescom or PAX, whatever… just make it happen then and only then can we truly move forward in games.

    Sid, please show us the numbers!! Why hide them? I’d love to see how close it was and how other great games did!!!

    And dear Sid + SONY, I DARE you to make a best ps2 game of all time list… ;) I guarantee you the SOCOM fans will come out and show you that even among greats like MGS2, MGS3, GTA3, FFX, GT3, GT4, ICO, Jak + Daxter, Ratchet + Clank, etc… SOCOM can and will hold its own… The MILLIONS of people who played socom are STILL waiting for THE online tactical PlayStation shooter to return…. It’s a shame one of the best (and UNIQUE) online games was made poorly in the PS3 days and then abandoned.

    Bring it back (MAKE a new studio if you have to), and bring back CRASH BANDICOOT as well (pay Activision to actually use the licence or sell it back to Naughty Dog already..). The fans have spoken many times… Is it not amazing that both crash and crash 3 made it that far up the list?? Listen to the fans, these games are MISSED + WANTED!!!!!
