PS Plus: Free Games for August 2015

What makes treasure hunting even more appealing? Treasure hunting with friends! Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris leads the lineup of free PS Plus games for August, which includes four games that are playable on PS4. Which games, you ask? Well, you’ve come to the right place…

Temple of Osiris follows in the footsteps of Guardian of Light, with fast-paced cooperative play, head-scratching puzzles, and glorious treasure. Traverse the dangerous environments solo, or with friends, and guide Lara on yet another supernatural adventure.

Also up for grabs is the critically-acclaimed Limbo. This haunting story has captured the hearts and minds of gamers around the globe — and has chilled a fair number of spines. If you have a fear of spiders, be prepared to cover your eyes.

If that sounds a bit too unnerving, jam out and get creative with Sound Shapes — which is also available on PS3 and PS Vita. Sound Shapes revolves around musical platforming, fantastic visuals, and a powerful level creator.

Rounding out the PS4 offering for this month is Stealth Inc. 2: A Game of Clones, which is also available on PS3 and PS Vita.This puzzle platformer tasks you with escaping a dangerous research facility in which death is readily distributed to your hapless clones.

Also, joining the August lineup are God of War Ascension (PS3) and CastleStorm (PS3, PS Vita), ensuring that you have plenty of gaming to keep you busy this month.

It is a good list, but IMO Limbo shouldn’t be there, it’s a great game but it was originally released on july 2011 for the ps3 (july2010 for xb360) and it has been given the crossbuy status with vita and ps4 as the consoles came out.

It has been in several sales, by this point if there is still someone that hasnt play it, it’s because they dont care.

what’s the point?

That spot could have been given to a different game…

I was expecting a day one free indie game to appear, oh well. Guess this month my theory or something got broken in the process. Cross-Buy still applies though. An interesting selection but I swear I already own Sound Shapes already. Will try out Castlestorm on Vita, Stealth Inc 2, and Lara Croft and the Temple of Orisis when it comes out. Will get Limbo on Ps4 as well.

Where is the video from Ryan? He should have had one already for it.

I know it’s not a good month for me when God of War is the most interesting of the bunch. But that’s ok, PS+ has been pretty great lately.

Also, wasn´t Sound Shapes on PS+ already? I could swear I got it for free.

  It was only free in certain European territories as a replacement for Outlast, but not in U.S. It was also part of the 2012 PSN Play promotion when it came out with a 20% Plus discount.

Plain crap.
The only good game among this pile of trash is LAra Croft and the Temple of Osiris which I bought digitaly and after that I bought the Collectors Edition.
The rest is poop.
Stealth Inc. is a pos that nobody cares about.
Spund Shapes is just ridiculous.
Limbo was already given a long time ago.
God of War Ascension is a good game, but honestly even my mother had it finished by now.
The only good thing they could have done is give CastleStorm for PS4.
But no.
Now we´re not only getting really bad indie **** but also repeated games.
Way to go Sony.
Can I get a refund for my subscription, please?

  some ppl will bi*ch about good games with no need for updates or hotfixes. But last 6 months have been broken garbage indies that are barely playable in the first place let alone have no content whatsoever. Some of us came from 360 and people like me missed these awesome games.

Yikes! Great lineup, but I got burned this month…I have 4 of those 6 titles. I get Stealth Inc 2 and Temple of Osiris, but otherwise…Nothing new for me. Darn my loyalty to gaming! What has it gotten me? lol

Note: I do have Limbo, just not on PS4. I got it for PS3/VITA. Great game! But…Not one I’d need to go back to in full 1080p. It looked great when I played it. I’m good.

While I’m excited to play Stealth Inc 2, because 1 was such a blast to play, I’m kinda bummed that we’re getting Limbo again, I remember it being part of the IGC last year so why should we get it again, I understand this is the ps4 version which isn’t cross buy with the other two, so it brings this game to ps4 users only, however for most of us who played it when it was in the IGC last year is kind of sad to see it again. It would’ve been better to have another cool indie game pop up instead of Limbo.

Wow, this is a pretty good month! I already own Limbo, Sound Shapes and God of War, but I’m still happy with Lara Croft and Stealth Inc 2. The first Stealth Inc. was fun, looking forward to playing 2 on my Vita. Thanks Sony!

  But I certainly won’t pay full price for it, that’s for sure!

Best line up yet. I have GOW and Sound Shapes, both are great games. I almost picked up Lara Croft for PS4, now I get it for free. Awesome. I played Limbo on Vita, but might replay again on PS4.

Seriously stop with this incredibly pretentious artsy puzzle avant-garde journey game bs. Im not a 14 yo hipster so i hate beck jim guthrie and deadmau5. First entwined now th latest crapfest , inluding tomb raider and the franchise that wont die even if it really really should. Speakin of a dead worthless franchise, god of war is short bland and repetitive.And For the Lames, yes portal entwined and sounds and shapes blows. Period.

I think I have Limbo on the Vita but will be cool to play it on PS4 and Temple of Osiris looks quite fun. Might try sound shapes on the vita, heard is pretty cool.

I am looking forward to these games and cannot wait until the 4th! First time playing them and looks like a solid line up! I played the demo to castlestorm this past weekend on my PS TV and was pleased to see that on the list. Two thumbs up on the selection!

Lara Croft is a great game! It is very fun to play co-op with a friend. But unfortunately I encountered a bug that prevents me from finishing the game!! :( I believe I did a dungeon out of order and I am locked out of completing the dungeon I “skipped”. As far as I know, there has not been a patch to fix this and I have read online that other players have run into the same problem. Be careful!

Really looking forward to most of this line-up (already own Sound Shapes and God of War Ascension both great games by the way). Lara Croft and Stealth 2 I am especially looking forward to and I own Limbo on PS3 already but I will gladly play through it again on PS4 :)

OH MY GOD SONY!!! Your lineup is disappointment after disappointment! This is the type of **** that makes me want to sell ps4 and save up for Xbox one, obviously I chose the wrong console if all you do is give us crap after crap, all I use the ps4 for is Netflix, I thought this was a gaming console, I’m ****ed at Sony, like is it really that tough to throw in something good once in a while, Xbox One is obviously gonna win if you keep this up!, This is BULL, my comment is probably gonna be blocked for telling the truth, I might switch to Xbox one if all you do is put out **** GAMES, I wish I bought an Xbox One, at least then the games would be decent, I’m still giving sony a chance but with these games it’s hard, I spent 400 dollars on this console, WHERES.MY.MONEYS.WORTH?!?!??!?

  Yeah, #133 is right. Buy a device and buy software for the device is the way it’s always been. There are lots of good games available for good prices. We are lucky to have a subscription option in addition to the old model. The best part is that it’s all optional.

Well im pretty excited about the lineup. Surely not the best they could ever do. Been wanting to try out temple of osris for a while, and haven’t had a chance to play the rest of Limbo as i rented it on disc on the 360. God Of War ascension is good as im currently working through them on the ps3 currently so perfect timing. This is the first time in a while that i’ve been happy about the month as i currently only enjoyed Rocket League and Never Alone during the past few months.

I’m really only excited about Lara Croft (which i believe is like $29.99 normally?) PS+ is so worth the money even if you don’t play online or if you just have a ps3 and vita
But if you have all three then PS+ is more than worth every penny

Honestly I think it’s an ok line up. I just miss the days of the ps3. Now that we pay to play it seems the line up is getting weaker. What I would like to see is one AAA title and one or two indies for the ps4.

I was realllllllly hoping for AC:Black Flag for PS4, but the line-up is great. Sound Shapes is super fun!

Also I have no idea why I want another free AAA game after picking up The Witcher 3… I will never finish this game!

We get 4 games to play on PS4! All of them which have been well received. Not to mention GOW on PS3. These titles are free people!!! And if you and to talk about a bad line-up, go look at XB1’s Gold games (still free!).

PS Plus Games are not FREE! $50/yr is $4.17/mnth which translates to about $0.69 per game this month. So regardless if you own them, or have already played them, you’re paying for them!

Sony this is ridiculous i pay you 50 pounds a year so i can play online which was free on ps3 and get free games and the games i get are either games i could buy cheaply or games that i dont want e.g i can buy the tomb raider gold edition with all the dlc brand new from game uk and clones 2 has been given bad score from everywhere i have seen, also you had it on sale the week before. I was hoping for some early launch titles from the ps4 like assassins creed black flag and killzone or even the worst ps4 game of all knack september better have some good fun quality games or when my sub runs out im selling my ps4 and getting a xbox

I do not get people who hate the PS+ program. Each month we pay $4.16 (if you paid $50 for PSN, most of us paid $40 which is $3.33/mo) and get 6 games per month. That is less than 70 cents per game and people complain that everything is terrible and life is so unfair.

It is always a good deal. Perhaps if people complained less and actually tried the free games they would realize how wonderful the program actually is and how you can literally never finish all the PS+ games you get per month if you only played them. Have you tried Unfinished Swan yet? It is great! Valiant Hearts? Haunting! Rocket League? Incredible!

I appreciate the effort that SONY put into providing us great gaming experiences and I hope more people thank them for their time, rather than pessimistically looking at their effort.

The thing is, since I’m stuck on a 1 year subscription (because you NEED to pay for online play now), I hold of to buying games like the ones in this lineup now. My lesson learned is that this was my last generation where I hype up for a console. Next generation, I hold my horses and SEE IF THEY ACTUALLY MADE HUGE ADVANTAGES in the next-gen generation. Because frankly, this generation SO FAR after all that time now has been all about: DLC, Remasters, postponed game releases, buggy game releases, average graphics improvements, stupid social integrations AND MOST OF ALL: milk the customer of his hard earned money in every possible way! STEP UP Sony, goddammit, STEP UP or I WILL give up on you. If only other people would get it too, maybe then they’d listen..

  Most of this is industry specific trending, the rest is directly linked with technological evolution. What does Sony have to do with it? You blame them for what? Running a business as best they can?

  First off welcome to America that will cost 20 years of life and half you soul. Secondly,while Sony will always test all submitted games before release on their consoles you have to understand that video game programming is different from software programming. Here you can release slightly unpolished fatal error causing software. In the real world you do that and you have to give out refunds and maybe more if you mess a business’s revenue up due to incompetence. Third, welcome to America please give all you cash to corporate commander or suffer.
