PS Plus: Free Games for July 2015

Prepare yourselves for a free games lineup the likes of which you’ve (probably) never seen! We’ve got rocket-powered cars, stealthy goblins, science cats,and even a little dab of arthouse wonder for good measure. All free starting next week for PS Plus members.

This month’s lineup includes four games playable on PS4, starting with the multiplayer mayhem of Rocket League. Use insane stunts and teamwork to score points in this fast-paced arcade game that even features a wholesome little cameo from Sweet Tooth, our favorite demonic ice cream truck.

Also included is the fantasy stealth game Styx: Master of Shadows, and the head-scratching puzzles of Mousecraft. And if you’re still not satisfied, why not embark upon an adventure that spans nine lifetimes in the surreal story of Entwined?

Rounding out the lineup is Rain on PS3 and Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions Evolved on PS Vita. All these games will be free for PS Plus members starting on July 7th. If you want to see these games in motion, hit that play button below.

@ TBarnett458 supersonic acrobatic rocket-powered battle-cars is pretty much the same thing, it’s the first game and it’s on ps3 though the stars are pretty much impossible to get all.

Why can’t we get good games for once? Rocket League looks cool and all but the other games are unacceptable. Also why didn’t we get Guilty Gear Xrd? I would gladly take that game over this garbage.

I just got the Batman Arkham Knight edition PS4 bundle. And i want to activate the free Playstation Plus membership.
Wanted to ask if i activate today (2nd July 2015), do i still get the Metal Gear Solid V free game?

  Depends on the length of the trial period (15 days?), your best bet is to activate it around sunday/monday, download the current lineup, then on tuesday night download the new lineup.
  Have in mind of course, PS Plus games are tied to the membership so once the trial ends, you’re SOL, unless you renew later on.

This is a great lineup to be honest. I haven’t heard anything about Styx or seen videos, but looking great.
Entwined and Mousecraft hell yeah, been wanting to grab those since last year.
Rain well, meh, but will try it and Geometry I guess will force me to recharge the Vita this month.

And Rocket League!!! Woahhh!!!1111 Since the E3 I had my mind set on it, was waiting to grab it end of July or something, but now it seems like I’ve been playing it next week.

Am I the only one who gets annoyed that it feels like we have to search for the Plus games on some platforms, for example Vita. It is quite frustrating. It used to be easier before the PS4 came out and they screwed up the plus layout. Before it was a tab where you could simply see all the games they were offering for free. Now I’m lucky to find the 2 for vita when there is also a crossbuy that isnt in the same area. What gives? Dang I miss the days for 12 free games that came with plus AND the 6 free vita games. IJS

I’ve had plus for quite a bit of time myself. I don’t own an XBox and probably never will. Some of my friends do. They love it. More power to them. I’ve played some games on their console and it was ok. The games I desire the most to play weren’t available on the XBox or available on both systems. So, I chose PS. I don’t regret it. If people do, that is their decision honestly.

I have owned a PS1, PS2, PS3, and PS4. My PS1 and PS2 are somewhere in storage. My PS3 I play sometimes, but not as much. The PS offering this month includes “Rain” which was a game I was interested in for PS3, but never ended up buying.

PS4 games sound interesting. I’ll download them. If I don’t like them, I’ll delete them. However, between the two systems, I get way more than $50 worth of games in a year.

Keep up the good work guys. I like the variety of games. I may not always find something I like in a month, but I get to experience a lot of games that I probably wouldn’t have just thrown money at. Without plus, I would have missed some great games (i.e. Infamous, Borderlands, etc)

Yes, there are great indie games, that’s not up to discuss, but not everyone are satisfied with only that. Two years and one, maybe two AAA titles? Really? I can’t help to be disappointed, especially when we were used to AAA titles for ps3 every month. The ideal would be a lineup with indies and at least one AAA, everyone would be happy.

the defense of the ps plus lineup, especially july, suggests there is something to the criticism of this lineup as crap. That goes for the last 6 months i been a member having not downloaded a single title.

Another month and another pile of rubbish for PS Plus. When will we get back to AAA titles being on PS Plus? Instead of these budget titles. It’s a major kick in the teeth when XB1 gets black flag, and we get ****.

SORT IT OUT!! If you want new customers and keep you existing ones. As in getting to the point of not renewing my subscription when it’s due. Also we need better PS Plus discounts on AAA titles and older games.

I was so hoping we were going to get Guilty Gear like Japan. Look, I don’t mind indie stuff. There are some great indie games I’ve bought over the years (Hotline Miami, Binding of Isaac), but when it is ONLY indie titles, it feels like we’re not getting our money’s worth. One indie, one retail title is the perfect compromise. Right now, I just don’t see anything I’m going to download.

Oh well, I guess there’s always August.

… and I thought nothing could be worse than June… More Indie crap, great, just great!!! Thanks God I also own an XBox. People at Microsoft are offering Blag Flag. I know it’s an old game, but at least they hit the AAA segment. I get it, Sony virtually controls the consoles market, so **** the customer, right?

On PS Store i downloaded driveclub playstation plus edition. after installing it and the update I tried to play it, but all of the single player races are locked with a message saying “To continue you must upgrade your DRIVECLUB playstation plus edition.” I have tried to and when i select continue on the upgrade screen i get a PS store message saying “The content cannot be selected at this time.” message. What is going on, did Sony troll us in releasing a game that can’t be played?

  I had this happen too. Delete it. FULLY reboot the PS4, and re-download and install it. Just make sure you get the PS plus one, and not one of the other two out there.

@155 GothamSuperman- That was one of the funniest posts I’ve read on here in awhile….lol. I agree that much of the last few months have been lacking but I actually am psyched for Styx and Mousecraft.

Overall though, this year’s lineup has been really weak. I know they “can’t all be zingers” (Primus shoutout), but you get the sneaking feeling that Sony really has been stiffing us lately.

Is it too much to ask for at least one truly AAA title that’s a year or so out from its peak sale to be included each month? I like indies and games aimed at casual gamers but I’d like to see a non-ancient AAA title in the mix each month. It’s rare for that to happen which is a bit disappointing. PS+ free games aren’t really free when you’re having to pay for the service. You do get what you pay for but it’d be nice for Sony to sweeten the deal. That’s all I’m saying. Spoil us for our loyalty.

Some indie games are actually good. Don’t knock them until you try them. The free games they are giving out are a chance for me to try out some new indie’s that I would otherwise pass up. If they give out a AAA game, it will be an old one that if you wanted to play it, you would of already had. Businesses aren’t stupid. They are in business to make money and they aren’t gonna give away a game for free that people are still shelling out $60 for.

The bottom line, is you want a new AAA title, you’re gonna have to open up your wallet and spend some money.

The only reason I haven’t purchased Knack is that I’m expecting it to come to PS Plus eventually. I’m surprised it hasn’t. I have been relatively happy with the releases from PS Plus, but like others, I’m hoping to see some bigger titles soon.

What a hilarious joke. Most indie games are thrash passing off as games. When indie games stop pass off as “art” and using that as an excuse for their shallow gameplay then I’ll give them more of a chance.

Your definition of “a true gamer” is very flawed.I have probably been a gamer since before you were born, and I hate most indi games. I was there, and I played them the first time.It’s 2015 I want something a little more advanced than generic Super Mario.

  You clearly are missing the point of most indie games, the “crappy games from the 80s” vibe is intentional they are emulating nostalgia, it is an intentional design. most AAA titles are designed now-a-days to get you to buy the next one in the series or from the dev/pub. most indie games are designed to be a specific experience or tell a specific story…indie games like almost any genre are varied but unlike other genres indie games are not restricted to just being a “indie” game they can be any genre of game and without trying a game you cannot know if it is truly fun…i remember when arcades where still prevalent and nothing was more fun then there being a new game machine and trying it out, even after watching some one else play you still would never know if the game was good unless you tried it yourself.

  To say any game is not worth the download without ever actually having the experience the game is designed to give, that is what makes you not a “true gamer” in my opinion a “true gamer” plays any game and gives any game a chance not acts like a spoiled 10 year old screaming about how the graphics aren’t good enough because they look retro, yes we have the tech to make it look awesomely realistic but it’s not required.
  
  What makes a game truly good is some key point in the game when you experience it whether it be an awesomely named item or a really funny quest and you have to tell a friend or go to a forum and rant in excitement maybe write a review, games give us an experience we can’t get in real life so why deny yourself that experience because games don’t look good, have some depth man.

Decent line up. Styx is pretty good although I still have yet to finish it. Rocket League looks fun. As someone who has a XBO as well, I’m looking forward to having a copy of Black Flag since I traded it away after I beat it. Both systems are having a decent July. I’ll download them all and give Rain a try at some point.

The last really good games that I couldn’t believe were free on ps4 was don’t starve and outlast (omg outlast) and for ps3 was 2k14 which at the time I felt was a steal, idk lately i’ll try some of these games once or twice then delete but this rocket league game seems to be getting some hype so that’s all I can hope for, oh and also sytx I love stealth

I just swapped out the Xbox for PS4 and I have to say Plus is miles better than Gold. Like people are saying we got a pool game that took up one of our slots for months and we often get crap games or really old games. We got Rayman when it was only 10 dollars and only games we got day one for free was Massive Chalice that I can recall.

I had a PS4 at launch and was always getting fantastic indie games I was going to buy anyway. Writing off games just because they are indie is a mistake, some of the most fun I’ve had in my systems were indie games.

I don’t have a PS4. I have an Xbox One. I do have a PSN+ account (well, when I renew it anyways) because even though I only have a Vita, it is still worth it for the games I get for free on the Vita alone. For 50 bucks over the last year I have gotten Uncharted Golden Abyss, Dragon’s Crown, Terraria, Killzone Mercenary, Playsation AllStars, Fez, Soul Sacrifice, Gravity Rush, CounterSpy, and more. A huge value! I let my membership lapse in May because I knew that all my gaming time was going to be consumed by Witcher 3, but I am going to renew to get Geometry Wars. I don hope we see a few less indies and a few more “better” titles so that I feel year two is as worthwhile as year one.

Japan have got TRIALS FUSION, KILLZONE, KNACK Free, Guilty Gear, GZ, First Light

EU/US : Injustice, GZ, First Light

why??? why??? who did this? why no killzone, knack, trials for US?

  I personally couldn’t care less about what Japan gets vs what the US gets. Its a totally different market. I would suspect that in the future, the US PS+ subscribers will be getting similar titles. Japan gets Guilty Gear, we get Rocket League. I would take Rocket League any day over the mindless repetition of Guilty Gear. You pay $5 a month for about 300$ worth of games throughout the year. $600 worth if you own a PS3 also. I wish you could do that with every business.
