PS Plus: Free Games for July 2015

Prepare yourselves for a free games lineup the likes of which you’ve (probably) never seen! We’ve got rocket-powered cars, stealthy goblins, science cats,and even a little dab of arthouse wonder for good measure. All free starting next week for PS Plus members.

This month’s lineup includes four games playable on PS4, starting with the multiplayer mayhem of Rocket League. Use insane stunts and teamwork to score points in this fast-paced arcade game that even features a wholesome little cameo from Sweet Tooth, our favorite demonic ice cream truck.

Also included is the fantasy stealth game Styx: Master of Shadows, and the head-scratching puzzles of Mousecraft. And if you’re still not satisfied, why not embark upon an adventure that spans nine lifetimes in the surreal story of Entwined?

Rounding out the lineup is Rain on PS3 and Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions Evolved on PS Vita. All these games will be free for PS Plus members starting on July 7th. If you want to see these games in motion, hit that play button below.

Rocket League is a great surprise. I’m amazed how many people are willing to call it underwhelming when it’s easily the best game for $20 on current gen, barring any console or genre. The first game is still supported to this day, while AAA games of the same era have been offline for years. Rocket League is the next ESPORT in the making and is getting huge publicity on Twitch and YouTube. The only difference between Indy/Published games is WHO PAYS FOR IT. It affects gameplay never.

I think some people forget what gameplay actually is and means these days. Rocket League is EPIC. As a long time fan, I encourage you all to try it or watch a Stream before you call it underwhelming. It will garner more hours per user than most of the 2015 Holiday Line up. Games aren’t based on gameplay much any more, Rocket League is. Thanks Sony/Psyonix <3!

I for one am excited. I don’t like all the games, nor do I ever. But I’m down for Rocket League, Styx, and Geometry Wars III so 50% ain’t bad.

I could be worse guy. Seriously, it REALLY could be worse.

I like all the games you guys put on the Line-up, but this time… This exact time…. You guys dida faboulus pick. First of, Rocket League, Man I dont know If I am gonna get some sleep or not. This game gonna be a hell of fun. Second of, Styx, I mean Yea, is not that famous, but Hell I am gonna game the S##T out of it xD, Third of, Mousecraft. Good pick, I have neve played those kind of games befor, atleast on the console, and its a good hidden gem! To the Ps3 games and Vita games, All I can say is… Its gonna be a hell of a ride, to a whole new dimension. See thats Why I picked Playstation over Xbox! 7 July I am coming!

Sorry Sony but all i have to say to this is Quality over quantity, Come on we know you can do better. I mean i know its up to the devs on what games get put out there for free but the quality has dropped a lot for what we are getting. dont get me wrong i’m happy we get any free games but when i look at what free games we got a month on ps plus for the ps3 to what were getting on the ps4, kind of looks bad. any ways keep up the work i’ll have hope you turn the ps4 free games around some time in the future and make them just as good as ps3’s line up use to be

  Tree, Psyonix is coming out with a Rocket League official soundtrack, PS4 theme, and Rocket League merchandise. And there will be cosmetic DLC, so you will be able to give your money to the developer if you want to show your support!

  we havent even gotten a online multiplayer game since i started plus in february, thats the point of plus smdh… cant fix stupid and im sick of the most commonly asked for game in plus was rocket league for this month. hand picked games? can i just get a refund for half my money on ps plus and i want only online play please

I’ll admit I was kind of hoping for something a bit more and I already own entwined but whatever this line up is still pretty cool :) Rocket League looks fun and I have been interested to try Styx and Mousecraft

Wouldn’t have bought Rocket League myself but more than happy to give it a try. Was close to buying Styx in a sale a while back so happy to see that included. Vita choices are interesting and will be giving them all a try. First month in ages I haven’t owned at least half of the games included.

I don’t have any anti-indie prejudice, but I do believe their overdue for giving us at least on AAA title. How about Shadowfall or Infamous Second Son? Surely they’re old enough now.

You guys need to cut some slack for the indie developers, I’m glad sonys giving them a chance to get there talent recognized, besides it provides something that little kids can play. So we have a fair trade going I would say, I don’t like the idea of my kids playing black ops 3 or blood borne or any game like that. But yea Sony is heading in the right direction, always has been, keep up the work!

  people expect a mix of 1 retail + 1 indie per month (per platform). that keeps everyone happy, and still gives indie developers a chance to promote their game. also, cod isn’t the only retail game out there. there are plenty of viable retail games that could/should be on igc by now.
  
  this month’s lineup shows that sony absolutely is NOT heading in the right direction. they were heading in the right direction in june, and then reversed course.

Not going to sugar coat it, this month sucks. A few vocal people are supporting an indie game simply because it’s indie, if it were from a major studio then nobody would care. Not being negative, but If everyone pretends to love updates like this then things never change, so be blunt, it sucks, PLEASE make it better.

I honestly don’t know what to think about the lineup.. I guess I was just expecting something more special since it was the 5th year anniversary thing. I do know people are real hyped about rocket league but I cant join in the hype. I dont got a PS4… I guess I’m somewhat looking forward to geometry wars and entwined on the ps vita but I don’t know… I’m starting to feel that they are using the ps vita slots as extra slots for ps4 with cross-buy compatibility… Anyways.. just bought a new 32gb ps vita memory card and am already real close to filling it up, not too sure if these indies (and trust me.. I love indies, have a lot of em) will make the cut.

Who knows though.. the month aint over yet.. There might be some surprise sale or something. The 5th anniversary thing cant just go out like this.. right?

  AAA deserve their respect as much as indies but to only put indies on this list doesnt prove they are supporting the community just supporting a niche market. SOME people only buy AAA titles and expect to see indies this way others buy AAA pay for plus and still expect something they can enjoy, whil im not saying indies arent enjoyable ive had my share of enjoyable ones but the sidescrolling platforming indie movement is geting tedious. Indie titles have never had a problem being supported, some deserve it and some dont. If this is trying to bring more games and dev’s to the next gen system its not gonna work, indies are indies mostly for a reason. whatever the reason is most of these titles in plus indie ones have been broken and needed upwards of 2 months to patch gamebreaking bugs, while i understand AAA has this issue too its not nearly as prevelant.

  My suggestion one established title and one indie each month, otherwise people wont pay for it and well this whole movement towards a better psplus will be fruitless. Side not psplus specials are pretty rediculous if people want those titles a 10% sale means nothing they will pay for a physical copy for used or new and have the ability to play it on command given most new games nearly take 10% or more of your available hdd capacity. without the physical copy they will need to spend a few hours to download something they can pop the disk in and play in minutes. Slippery road hopefully they figure this out before theres no one left to claim the plus titles

You’re completely right…

This lineup is a joke, and they’ve been rather joke-ish for quite a while now.

Sony’s made a LOT of bad moves over the last few years. Removing hardware BC from the PS3 was a particularly stupid move. The software BC was decent, but nowhere near as good as the hardware version on launch PS3s, or the NO BC on current models. I understand that they can’t really do BC on the PS4, due to hardware architecture differences, but i do agree that PSnow is kind of a scam….kinda like how they made it possible to trade in physical UMDs, for vouchers to download PSP titles in japan, but wouldn’t do it anywhere else. thus forcing us to re-buy titles we already own, if we got a PSP GO, or a Vita. I’m kind of annoyed that if i want to play my PS2 games on my LED TV, and have them look good, i hafta spend hundreds of dollars for equipment to do the proper up-conversion, when the hardware BC-equipped PS3s used to do it flawlessly.

In any event, this lineup sucks…my plus subscription is up for renewal in another month…i’d seriously consider NOT renewing it, if it weren’t for the backlog of “free” games i still haven’t played, and the fact that they’re scamming us by requiring plus for online play on PS4….

lol gotta love people writing off these games because it’s not AAA. I don’t care if the game is indie or AAA as long as it’s fun. What i don’t get is that some people have this idea that all AAA games are good. Have you played games like Transistor? or heck even the rocket league beta? How do you know if it’s bad if you never try it? but yet i still see people begging for knack….KNACK. why because it’s AAA? lol. but then again it’s not my problem i guess, it’s those people that will miss out on a lot of great games. Can’t wait for Rocket League. I was gonna get it day one regardless if it was free on not. That game is addicting

  It seems the title everyone is hyped about this month is “rocket league”..people say it’s “addicting”. that sounds to me like another of these pointless time waster competitive/repetitive multiplayer only games…lemme guess, no story at all…and lemme guess, you do the same **** over and over again… Nope, no thanks.
  
  I get very little time off from work, and out of that time, very little of it is actual free time, that i can take for myself to do things that i want to do….so i need to be VERY choosy about what games i play, because if i grab a dud, i’ve wasted time i can’t get back. i simply don’t have time for pointless time waster games…

  It’s not that the games aren’t “AAA”, it’s that they’re just not very good games. Ever since sony made plus mandatory for online play on PS4, the IGC lineups have gotten progressively worse. You know why that is? It’s because before they made plus mandatory for online play on PS4, the IGC was the major draw for plus…people were getting plus for the long term rentals….
  
  Now, they’ve made plus mandatory for online play on the PS4, so now they have a captive audience…..this means they’re free to do whatever they want, because they know their customers won’t leave, because they need plus, in order to play online on PS4…
  
  I’ve played more than a few indie games, and i’ve enjoyed them…Again, it’s not that they’re indie, it’s that they just not very good games… It’s the fact that pretty much EVERYTHING we get on the IGC anymore is either indie trash, or in-house developed/published games…

Not really a big fan of these games. Entwined and Rain look cool but I expected more better games like retail disc games at least one for the PS3 that is something like RE6 or maybe max payne. The rest of the games look ok I hope the Plus games get better soon I feel like It was a bad idea to extend my plus until 2018.

I’m a little surprised about all the displeasure. I feel this has been one of the better months for the IGC in quite awhile. I have been very excited for Rocket League for a long time and am very happy it was included. The alpha and beta were some of the most fun I’ve had gaming this year!

It just sucks the ps3 games selection seems to get worse every month compared to the ps4 and vita’s selection. Two short games and a sort of fun puzzle game? I’m starting to regret buying a year of this upfront as a ps3-only gamer.
Nothing here is making me excited at all, just bummed out again.

Ya’ll complain to damn much. You can buy a 1 year membership for 49.99 and you get plenty of value for that price. Even if you find 5 games out of the 40+ games you get throughout one calendar year, you are getting your money’s worth! Now pull the plug out and sit on a pillow for a few minutes. I know it hurts your buns but you get good discounts on other games as well so sleep easy people.

Good line up. Perhaps best of last few months. Been behind news and heard good stuff about rocket league so cant wait to try and always wanted to try STYX master of shadows. Hope it have some serious action. other 2 extra will just be in library even i wont play, maybe will try when have time. Hope line ups will get better and better now (fingers crossed).

Bit gutted, I was hoping for batman origins like our friends in Japan are getting for plus this month, guess I’ll check out rocket league since everyone seems to be excited by it
