The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited Comes to PS4 in Two Weeks

We’re excited to welcome PS4 players to ESOTU in just two weeks. When we began development of the console version of the game, we knew we wanted it to feel like it was developed for the PS4, not just another port. With integrated voice chat, a completely redesigned UI, full PSN connectivity and controller support, PS4 players should feel right at home in Tamriel.

Today, we’d like to share some details (and some fun things, too!) to help you prepare for launch. Thank you for supporting us through this journey—we hope to see you in Tamriel on June 9th!

This is ESOTU

Over the past few weeks, we’ve released the first two ‘This is The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited’ videos. In them, we delved into the freedom and choices that shape your experiences in Tamriel, and all of the activities you can enjoy in ESOTU with friends. Today, we’re pleased to present the final video in the series, all about exploration in Tamriel. You can watch all three videos, including the latest one, below. We hope you enjoy it!

Launch Day Timing

On June 9th, everyone who has purchased The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited will be able to log in at midnight, local time. This means that every hour, players from a new time zone will gain the access to play ESOTU on console, beginning with UTC+14.

The Quick Chat System

At launch, the console versions of ESOTU will feature a Quick Chat system. This system will allow you to select from a collection of premade phrases to quickly communicate with other players around you. You set them to your shortcuts just like you would a consumable item. Once you’ve assigned the Quick Chat phrase to your shortcut wheel, you simply hold down Right on the D-Pad, then use the R-Stick to choose one.

When you use a Quick Chat phrase, it will appear as a text chat bubble, visible to those around you along with an emote. Below are a few screenshots of the Quick Chat system in action.

You can have a total of eight Quick Chat phrases on your shortcut bar at a time. There are currently 22 Quick Chat phrases you can choose from, all of which are localized into English, French, and German. We do plan to add more over time, based upon the requests of the ESOTU community.

If you have any questions about ESOTU’s console launch or the plans leading up to it, please post them in the comments. We’ll do our best to answer!

  • Been out on PC for a year now.

  • I have a question.

How does the install work if you buy a retail disc?

Is it a standard game install, wherein you just pop the disc in, the game installs, and you’re required to play with the disc in, allowing you to share, trade, or sell the disc at a later date?

Or is it like FFXIV where the disc basically acts as a download key, ties to your account, and is completely useless to another person?

  • Hey Jessica,

How does the integrated voice-chat work on PS4? Do I have to be in the same party as someone to hear the voice chat or do I just walk up-to or near someone and can voice chat?! Thanks!

Love the game can’t wait to get back into it on PS4

  • I have to try it before I buy it, and I didn’t get in the beta, so the chance of you getting my money now depend on reviews.

  • @slayerofgames

You realize people will troll in voice comms too? Right? The medium isn’t going to stop trolling. I actually already have guild mates (not that I approve of this) who are planning out how they are going to troll using voice comms…lol…trolls will be trolls, it isn’t the method of communication that makes trolls.

I’m not playing the PC version because I am a console gamer; I am not a fan of gaming on the same machine I spend 8-10 hours a day working on; I do like sitting on my couch and playing on my huge TV.

If you are not a fan of text chat, you can turn it off (even on PC version of ESO there are ways to turn off text chat); we are not asking for this to be mandatory, we are asking for it to exist as an option in addition to voice comms; I can’t understand what people have against having options so the best tool to accomplish a task is available to all who want to use it.

Also, if you can turn it off, why do you care if it is there for those that want it? That does not make sense.

I’ve head proximity chat has a range of like 20 feet in the game (exact number may be off, but it is relatively short, if I recall); meaning, if you want to use it to trade (similar to zone trading) you will need to actually run up to each person you want to ask.

This personally is one of my biggest complaints with voice comms only; when people start trying to use it to trade, pick up pugs, I don’t want random people running up to me and I am minding my own business in game and auditorily assaulting me trying to sell their wares or pick a person for a group. Talk about immersion breaking.

Personally, I will immediately remove myself from proximity chat to not have to deal with that and other immersion breaking noise; but this opens a whole new problem, without text chat, you have no real way to communicate in a complex manner, only these canned phrases.

  • So if I am in a the aldemire deminion does that mean I can’t go into the other provinces that are owned by enemy alliances like ebonheart pacts Skyrim?

  • @freshbacon

Once you complete the story in your own faction and reach level cap, you are able to travel to the other factions zones and do their quests. Unfortunately, you will only see your own faction members in these zones, and you will still be completing the other factions quests (in support of that faction); which seems out of place in a game where the center piece is a faction war…but oh well…that is what happens when knee jerk reactions are executed…

  • I got the perfect idea! How about instead of waiting 2 weeks, you guys be nice and release it next week? dont mind that its my birthday on the second, just release it on Tuesday and we will all be surprised! Pretty Please?

  • the_templar_grim

I have a pretty large group of friends all chomping at the bit. If we are different “Factions” is that going to be an issue with our co-op experience?

  • @the_templar_grim

Yes, if you want to quest, explore, fight together, you should all be in the same faction. For PvE you only see members of your faction. For PvP, you only are teammates with other characters in your faction.

You could technically play together in PvP if you are in different factions, by joining the same campaign, but then you are fighting against each other, and not really co-op. Or you could try to meet up and conquer some of the PvE content in Cyrodiil with your friends in other factions, but I’d be careful of AoEs then…lol…and that will probably be broken up the second you run into anyone who is not one of your friends…lol…

However, players join guilds, not characters, so you can all be in the same guild; you just can’t play together.

This setup is one of the craziest things about this game, and I don’t see the reason behind any of it, but that is how it is.

  • I’ve purchased the digital version on preorder. I have a ps plus subscription.
¿Will my brother be able to play the game on his profile on the same console?

  • Ashigaru_Musashi

    @OsCGunslinger

Yeah that also worries me the most. Like I’ll still probably play the game and enjoy it but those are things that need to be addressed when it comes to mmo’s. I’ve played a few before and it concerns me how it’s going to work like that because I don’t see those things flying over well and it might hurt the community. I tend to go back and forth between grouping up and going on my own so I don’t mind doing my own thing often but when it comes to trading and other things like that I feel like a text chat or some sort of different system is necessary, otherwise I’m worried that it’ll affect sales and/or reviews + peoples’ opinions on this game that is otherwise pretty good.

  • I was moderately interested until i read that trophy list. Pass.

  • As a player who was playing the PC version, but is now pretty much just into console gaming, I’m really looking forward to this release. I’m hoping someone can answer a question regarding the character ports from the PC to console version though. If I am reading it right, the charge for the porting of my characters to the PS4 version includes a digital copy of the game…if this is correct, how do I go about obtaining this? Do I need to link my PC and PS4 accounts in some way first?

  • Ashigaru_Musashi

    @ketonekevin

They were doing this for a discounted price of $20 and it was digital, but the offer expired around the beginning of may I believe. Sorry man

  • If I purchase a physical copy of this game, can multiple gamers in my home with different PSN sub accounts play the game individually?

  • After researching and reading about this fine game I just pre ordered the Imperial edition through the PSN store, going to be an awesome game, can hardly wait!.

  • Wal-Mart and many other stores just got them today. i work for a shipping company and a whole box full ESO for ps4 and xbox one fell out.. Was really tempted to take one…

  • is ps plus optional like destiny or is it required?

  • Cant wait till this comes out for PS4!

  • I’m a big fan of Oblivion and Skyrim! hope everyone of you enjoy the elder scrolls online!

  • Is this game going to be free for PSP? because most games that are online like DC online most of those games are free so I hope that the elder scrools online is free.

  • Owenwithdemlols

just wanted to ask is there a guild leveling system?

  • Owenwithdemlols

and if there is can your guild do things that they could not do before?

  • I have two ps4 and was wanton to know if I would be able I game share it with the other that is in my home if any one could answer this it would mean a lot thanks

  • I’m a big fan of skyrim and i cant wait to play elder scrolls online. i’ve been watching countless guide videos like pvp builds how to make gold beginners guides skill sets etc. i pre-ordered the imperial edition xD. if you like pvp add me as i will be doing pvp A LOT and hopefully form a ganking squad. i’ll be an nightblade khajitt in the aldmeri dominion with a bow and dual swords. im the stealthy but deadly type of player.

  • @77 You have to buy the game, but there’s no monthly subscription.

  • i wish there was a demo, really interested but i gotta make sure that i really want it- since playing witcher takes all my time and soon batman will be here!

  • I read that people see you pan name and not your rooms name. So then what is the sense of making a name for your toon? Or is this an option that can be turned off? Cause I’m not a fan of seeing mine or others pan names I just want to see the rooms names.

  • Ashigaru_Musashi

    @HairyHenrysink
On the PC there was a mod you could download that could switch that but it wasn’t a vanilla option when I played. I wish it was too honestly, perhaps they’ll give an option for it in the future. You never know, it’s an MMO, they’re always gonna be updating it.

  • Must be a bunch of competition trolls around here….rating posts downwards. I say, disable the rating system.

  • I am looking to buy this game, but …
People will be able to migrate their characters from the PC to the PS4? So on day 1 I can already see high level characters? It does not seem very fair. There will be exclusive servers for beginners? Thank you!

  • Wander… It seems to be so captivating! I’ll take my chances!

  • How is the guild system going to work can we make our own if we want?

  • Is the video above all ps4 gameplay. Ive already preordered but i was put off by pc gamers about how much more they have and better their version looks. But that video made me happy again

  • A Sony CSR told me today that pre-order download want be available until June 9th.

    Is this correct?

  • Well , in case PS4 PLUS is a must to play this game , i will cancel my pre-order and will never look back. Not going to pay money for intellectual property more than once , not now not ever. I’m not a caw and you can’t push me to give my milk all day long.
PLUS requirement should be written with big letters on game cover

  • does anyone know if Elder scrolls will be Local two player, similiar to say diablo 3 ?

    Thank-you

  • i have been waiting for ages for this. Anyone played the beta and if so… can you tell me what tips you have ?

  • Plz play a round or two of “Final Fantasy XIV” and take a look, how they managed a console-MMO with quickchatsystem without a limitation of “8 out of 222.

The system now is a piece of crap. Sorry to say this. Your fan-base is not a punch of teens wth headsets. Your fan-base ist mid-20+ and has familiy and life. They dont sit in front of the TV and talk into a headset.

    Bring back a real chat-system.

  • Well it’s launch day and I can’t login to the North America Megaserver. Even the help elder scrolls online website is giving me errors! I thought access was unlimited ?

  • Note my time is 12:30am EST.

  • 1:30am – Still down.

  • 2:30am – CTRL ALT DELETE

  • Help, my wife pre-orderd the digital version of the elder scrolls online imperial edition off of the psn store on ps4, and because my profile is also on her machine I can access the game and play it? However only she has access to all the extra content and stuff that was included in the imperial edition? Shes got access to the imperial race, the pets, the skills, and the other packs like the explorers and adventurers pack, she can use any race in any alliance? But unfortunately I don’t have access to this content – WHY is this? I ask because when we have pre-ordered special editions of other games in the past, we have both had access to all content. But elder scrolls only allows her access to the imperial edition extras. WHY not me as well?

  • If my ps4 is set on Russian language but im in Germany which language the game will be on?

  • PATRICKKILLASEAL

yeah it’s going to be easier to recruit people in my guild or trade with other people
