PS Heroes: Yasiel Puig Plays MLB 15 The Show With a PlayStation Fan

Have you ever wanted to play video games against a celebrity? On April 16th, PlayStation Heroes winner and San Francisco Giants fan, Josh Dirk did just that. He laid claim to a gaming opportunity of a lifetime — a one-on-one, high-stakes battle of MLB 15 The Show against Los Angeles Dodger, Yasiel Puig.

Dirk rocked an ear-to-ear grin as he walked in Puig’s home, where the competition took place. Dirk knew there was a chance he might lose, but didn’t care because as he put it, “he was already a winner,” and that he was. To top off this amazing event, comedian Al Madrigal kept things interesting with a hilarious play by play commentary. Check out this video to see how it all went down and who took home the win.

This event was a grand slam for Josh Dirk and the PlayStation Nation. We all played a role in raising much needed funds for an amazing cause, The V Foundation for Cancer Research!

Don’t forget you still have until May 19th at 1:00 PM to purchase the limited edition Koi Pond dynamic theme and register online to be entered for a chance to win a trip for two to E3, where you’ll play PS4 with Shuhei Yoshida and Adam Boyes in a game of their choice. Even if you’re not interested in going to E3 and playing video games, you should get these themes because 90% of the proceeds benefit some great charities: Make-A-Wish, The V-Foundation, and USO.

Themes can be purchased through PlayStation Store here. In addition, if you also register for the sweepstakes here — you will enter yourself for a chance to win!

NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. A purchase will not increase your chance of winning and is not tax deductible. Game begins April 21 2015 1:00PM PST, ends May 19 2015 1:00PM PST. Must be legal resident of the US and 18+. Cannot re-purchase the same theme. Purchasers of Bronze, Silver, Gold or Platinum themes cannot also purchase Heroic Bundle. Limit 31 entries. • Looks like everyone had a lot of fun, and for a good cause no less. Love how Yasiel “had time” to play a little FIFA too.

Wish I could download the PlayStation Heroes App in Canada; don’t really understand why I can’t. I get that participating and/or donating might be a challenge for whatever legal reasons, but why can’t I watch through the app (or is that not what it does)?

  • +Thwip The App does give you the ability to watch the event video as shown here. There are also photos from the events as well. In addition to the event info and donation areas, there is also a profile that allows you to track badges that you earn within the app.

The event was a lot of fun. Yasiel was really excited to play FIFA. He actually raced upstairs to don his Rinaldo jersey before we started. It got cut from the video but we also did a 5 out Homerun derby in MLB as well.

He was very welcoming and engaged. He went above and beyond what was outlined for the event.

  • Ok, let me be honest. When I first read about this, I was cynical. Like who cares about celebrities, who cares – they are not gaming heroes they are more like unapproachable or whatever.

    I was wrong.

This video was awesome. Josh and his wife had a great time. Yasiel was hilarious, he and Josh sat there and looked like they were busting each other and having a ball. And then what, at the end he hooked them up with a new console? Classy stuff.

Me personally, I still think I would rather sit down and play with the Blogcast guys, but this was really cool and for a good cause. Bravo.

  • Honestly, I’m not too familiar with Puig, but his saying “I have time” was pretty great. Josh represented PlayStation fans really well. Overall, nice job with this.

  • The video was awesome and I’m so glad we are getting to see the results of each contest. Even if I don’t win the contest, I am glad that you are raising money for a good cause. Keep up the great work!
