Disney Infinity (2.0 Edition) Hits PS Vita May 9th

Hey everyone, John Vignocchi, Vice President of Production on Disney Infinity with exciting news on the launch of Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes (2.0 Edition) for Sony’s PS Vita handheld system.

Disney Infinity (2.0 Edition): Marvel Super Heroes

You may recall that we first revealed this version of Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes (2.0 Edition) during PlayStation Experience last December, and now it’s finally here! PS Vita owners can start playing and creating their own adventures featuring some of their favorite Disney and Marvel characters on this amazing platform.

Featuring an all-new and exclusive Black Suit Spider-Man figure, the PS Vita Starter Pack also includes the Disney Infinity (2.0 Edition) video game, the Disney Infinity Wireless Base which connects via Bluetooth, a Marvel’s Spider-Man Play Set Piece, both Marvel Super Heroes Toy Box Game Discs, a Web Code Card and a USB Recharging Cable.

The Black Suit Spider-Man figure will be fully compatible with the console version of Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes (2.0 Edition), but it will be making an exclusive debut to the Disney Infinity universe through PS Vita.

Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes (2.0 Edition) for PS Vita will be available exclusively at GameStop for $59.99, starting on Saturday, May 9, 2015.

Before I go, I’d like to personally thank Adam Creighton and the team at Panic Button Games in Austin, TX for all of their hard work to get this version of the game out the door.

Also, special shout-out to Adam Boyes and the Third Party team at SCEA for encouraging us to get Disney Infinity (2.0 Edition) onto PS Vita. It is pretty wild to play the full experience on that beautiful, small screen!

And last but certainly not least – Thank you to all of our loyal Disney Infinity fans and PS Vita owners. We really hope you guys like it!

  • What about in Canada? The game is still not up for preorder on any site, even EB Games, which is owned by Gamestop. Is it coming out here at all, let alone tomorrow?

  • Thanks for this amazing game for our PS VITAs!

  • Thank you for bring this series to the PS Vita, any chance that that this version of Infinity 2.0 is coming to Europe ( more specifically Australia) since there hasn’t been any reports about an european release.

  • Hope someone will answer this. Will the BT base also be usable on PS4? I’d love to get rid of the USB cable for the base, and this would be incentive for me to get Vita version.

  • Canada? I have been looking forward to this since it was announced. Please Please Please don’t make this a US only exclusive (not to mention pointing to it later and saying ‘No need to do 3.0, 2.0 on vita didn’t sell).

  • This looks amazing! I can’t wait, thank you so much for bringing this to Vita!

  • I now I should probably ask this on the Latin American blog, but is this starter pack also coming to Mexico?

I haven’t seen anyone announcing it over here and I might as well import it already if it’s not getting a proper release here.

  • Time to dust off my vita oh wait it’s not coming to Canada never mind. Now I’m a sad panda.

  • This may not be what a lot of PS Vita owners want but it is a game for the portable however.

  • This is some strange timing seeing that Infinity 3.0 was just announced earlier this week. Who doesn’t want to drop $60 on something that will essentially be obsolete very soon?

  • I guess acknowledging this thing’s existence late is better than never doing it. Kind of concerned how there’s been 0 pre-release screenshots or gameplay footage. A stealth launched port with no media always leads to suspicions of it not being good. Oh well, I live in Canada, so it looks like we’re not getting this anyway.

Might not be a terrible idea to mimic the PC version’s solution and release a PSN version of the game where the additional characters are digital DLC. That’s just so it won’t be Gamestop-exclusive.

@10 Yes, here’s a 8 month late port of a game that has had its followup announced the same week it’s launched for pretty much everything but Vita. Vita fans should be thrilled that they can give Gamestop their money!

  • Just a few questions, assuming somebody here will be able to answer them:

    1) Is there any reason things have been so quiet surrounding this game? There has been no information on since PSX, and it was officially announced BEFORE that. There was no information between the announcement and PSX either. Typical Sony, no advertisement for a big Vita game like this.

    2) No footage? It’s out tomorrow. Sorry if I seem cynical, but it doesn’t inspire much confidence in the game.

    3) I take it there’ll be no 3.0 on Vita? Seems a bit weak that the 3.0 announcement happened this week and completely overshadowed this version game. =/

  • 1. Why cant you make one with the game, base and spiderman? I already have the playset and the 2 game disc.

    2. Is it the same game for the console?

    3. Anything special with the black spiderman? new bracket? (also what happens when I use the Black suite disc on this spiderman?)

  • I’d like to also thank you for bringing this to Vita. As a Vita owner since launch, it’s good to see someone once again bringing a major IP back to the console. Hopefully this will sell very well and help spark more interest in Vita at the same time.

  • I need help! I’ve never played Disney Infinity before and really don’t know much about it. I want to support any Vita retail game I can. Is this really the full game unlike the Lego games or does this have parts stripped from the console version? Does it require online? 95% of the time I play my Vita(traveling) I don’t have wifi. I want to thank you for making this for the best portable gaming device of all time!

  • Just so I understand, are any Disney Infinity 2.0 figures compatible with the full features of this game? I assume the Disney Infinity 1.0 figures are just for the Toybox right?

  • Sony, when are you going to fix the Vitas that you broke with the 3.5 firmware update?

  • I am going to support this version of the game for three reasons…
    1) I’m a huge nerd and love the Marvel universe, particularly Spider-man.
    2) I really enjoyed the PS4 version of the game.
    3) I want to support AAA games on the Vita with my wallet, to encourage more publishers to bring their work to the platform.

Now, can someone please address the Canadian questions others have already noted above?

  • So is this game gong go to be available digitally?

I am really interested in buying this, but I stopped buying physical media in 2010. So jf this does not come to PS Store, I am unfortunately not going to be able to support it.

On a happy note, I am so glad to see some support for the Vita. The 3G Vita is still by and far the best Smartphone ever released, and is much deserved of titles like this. Hope we see more support from first and third parties, and even more from productivity app makers. Weather apps, calculator apps, banking apps, pdf readers, documet apps, etc. these would all be great additions. Then top it all off with a 4G Vita with full acfess to PSN.

  • So, no digital purchase of characters like the PC and mobile versions totally rendering this handheld port unnecessary. And Gamestop exclusive so no chance of getting it through PS Store… Also zero footage of the game. Do you want this to tank?

  • Oh man, my kid would love this but the only reason we’ll likely pass is because he only really enjoyed playing Skylanders and Infinity on consoles when it was multiplayer. We have two Vitas so we can play many games ad hoc with each other but I imagine that since this game requires a peripheral, that will not be possible. Even if it was, I would not be buying two copies of the game/peripheral to do it.

Either way, we might jump on board in the far future but for now, sorry.

  • For those asking about Canada (I was too).

“It will be exclusive to EB Games and should be in stores mid next week.” That’s from Ashley Bernatt who works in marketing for Disney Interactive Canada.

The game is available for pre-order at EB Games. It has been in the system for over a month but it had a “DO NOT USE” next to the sku…. Why I have no idea.

Either way I went in on Thursday of this week, here in Montreal and managed to order one. It’s $69.99 here, and comes out on Tuesday of next week, not this Saturday.

So if you want it, I suggest going in store and asking, to see if your local store is taking preorders for it now.

  • I was very excited for this game to come to Vita but I absolutely will not buy it from Gamestop. This kind of thing should not be allowed.

  • Exclusive through Gamestop? Ugh. No thanks. They don’t get my money. Ever.

I’ll pick it up when/if it becomes available through other retailers.

  • Awesome. Can’t wait.

  • Why’d it take SOOO long? Is it gonna take ’til 4.0 comes out so 3.0 can come out on Vita?

  • @ John Vignocchi,
I reserved mine and it will be waiting for me at my local GS tomorrow morning. I broke out my PS4 version yesterday to level up some characters. I’m excited to see that this game is coming to the Vita, it will be the first of any of the “character driven”
games to do so. I’ve been wondering why it hasn’t happened before. Thanks for breaking new ground.

It would be great if you could tell us if a 3.0 is in the works for Vita, as well. This title snuck up on me. I would have reserved sooner had I known.

Also, how could it possibly be released on the PSN when it requires the base?

  • I WANT. I’ve been curious about Infinity, but a Black Suit Spidey bundle…good lord. I NEED IT.

  • I can see Gamestop being the only retailer willing to stock this. Most stores are trying to sell off their 2.0 stuff, which is why you can find the figures and game on sale very often. Couple that with a really late release on an unpopular platform and you have something few retailers will want to carry.

@28 As I said, mimic the PC release where the figurines aren’t required. It would’ve worked well for a handheld release …

  • Why are a lot of people complaining about this again? It’s a good thing! I prefer my Vita version with physical figures anyway, since it feels more like the full experience. The fact we aren’t getting 3.0 does suck (so consider a 3.0 Vita please), and I have no idea how I’m supposed to play 3.0 properly, but at least getting 2.0 Vita is better than nothing at all.

Hopefully you guys can find your copies in all your different areas. But if this doesn’t do well, I think it’s more the situations fault (late release, lack of retailers/advertising) more than people not wanting it.

  • Great job guys bringing this to the PSVita! 2015 is finally starting to pick up steam for the PSVita! Now if we can just get Sega to release their MMORPG, Phantasy Star Online 2 to the PSVita 2015 will be nice!

  • Will the wireless base be compatible with the PS4?

  • Love my Vita.

Really like Disney Infinity, since we have Marvel 2.0, and quite a few figures.

Don’t really want to buy another one.

Don’t really want a device to carry, to play a mobile handheld. Defeats the purpose, and was really hoping for digital characters.

    Huge disappointment for me.

  • yay, finally!

i’ll also wait for some non-paid reviews, as the lack of screenshots or demo is worrying.that being said, Epic Mickey 2 for Vita looked and layed great!

will Vita players b getting Ducktales and/or Castle of Illusion this year? the iOS oorts are done, so mosf of the technical risk is out of the way…

  • Hopefully we’ll get 3.0 on time this year too.

  • also, is the bluetooth base compatible with tbe PS3 or PS4 versions?

  • Soooo interested! If it plays well… I will even buy characters I don’t like.

  • For what should’ve been a big announcement, this was quickly forgotten (Due to a lack of advertising). I’m actually interested in a Vita version, but the announcement of 3.0 days ago (And not on this platform, sadly), lack of footage/marketing, and GameStop-Exclusive/limited run nature makes me feel that it won’t be very good.

I’ll wait to see the verdicts, and hope that a 3.0 Vita Version is announced at some point, and hopefully is treated much better.

  • correct me if im wrong but I cannot find any gameplay online, so that is a giant red flag for me.

  • Hey European players, it looks like Disney Infinity 2.0 on Vita will launch May 22nd in your region. If you’re in the UK, you can find preorders available on Amazon, Game and Smyths.

  • Next time please don’t do Gamestop Exclusivity.

    That company is the evil.

  • Oh. It exists.
    Great heads up…

  • Ducktales and Castle of Illusions would be cool games to port.

  • Of course, nobody has been here to answer questions. It’s perfectly clear that John Vignocchi and the team behind Disney Infinity could not care less about this version. It was obviously made out of obligation to some contract with 3PP, with no advertisement, no information and no press. They only officially announced the release date the day before it came out and days after revealing the new upgraded version for other systems. It’s really tragic.

The Vita deserves better. It’s a great system.

  • I’m sure this should be a nice game on the vita. I looked up Panic Games and they are responsible for Injustice: Gods Among Us on Vita.

  • Sweet, I’m always game for major company games on my Vita.
Fed up with nothing but indies on the system, so thanks for bringing this to the Vita.

  • Where’s the UFC Fight Pass?

  • @45 madmanwithabox12 I was thinking the exact same thing. I come back on here to see the responses and there’s not even one. That doesn’t send a good message to the people that want to support this game.
