PS Plus: Free Games for May 2015

Another collection of excellent games joins PlayStation Plus this May, and you’ve come to the right place for details!

Let’s begin with a fan-favorite game with a crazy colorful art style: Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition on PS4. Is that title a mouthful? Sure! A mouthful of delicious hand-to-hand combat! Bask in Guacamelee’s mix of platforming, puzzle solving, and exquisite video game humor.

Also up for grabs on PS4: Ether One. This new, first-person puzzle game tasks you with restoring the broken minds of the mentally ill through surreal puzzles. Can you unravel their tangled lives and also find answers to your own desperate questions?

Other games this month include the critically acclaimed indie project The Unfinished Swan, solar speed-demon Race the Sun, and the calmly explorative Hohokum, all of which are available on PS4, PS3, and PS Vita. As well as the oddly charming Murasaki Baby, available on PS Vita.

These games will be free for Plus members starting on May 5th. Would you like to know more? Hit the video below, and hear me rant about video games for a few minutes!

  • Only have a PS3, so there are three games for me this month. I own Unfinished Swan (pretty cool game, particularly with a Move controller), and while the description here doesn’t use the word “calming” or “relaxing,” it easily could. Those words are used to describe the other two PS3 games. So…March is the “chill out” month? Why??

I’m a little disappointed, I have to say it. Maybe Race the Sun will be better than the description, and maybe Hohokum will be enjoyable, but I don’t see much to get excited about here.

It’s been a while since we’ve had a mid-generation or later AAA title for the PS3 (and I hear the complaints of PS4 owners). How long are you going to keep us hanging?

That said…what you’ve lacked in the free titles lately, you made up for at least somewhat in the sales this spring. Wrapping up Saint’s Row IV has been a blast.

  • I have to say that these games look good!

  • another month, another terrible lineup. hopefully in june sony will feel some obligation to put out a decent offering heading into e3.

  • They just don’t care about us at all. we were complaining about the same thing for 6-7 months and what did they do? more and more indies. this month is 100% indies, for god sake.

they can at least give us some old 1st party games like The Last of Us and Infamous SS, but no, we’re not good enough to get anything but indies.

  • I really don’t see how some people can have issues with others not being happy about the Plus lineup, we pay monthly to RENT these games and Sony asks for our feedback and at least since I joined it’s been overwhelmingly negetive with just these indie drops a DLC add on and that DC fighting game that you couldn’t play local MP on or it deletes your save don’t even have to mention the reason signed up for in the first place Driveclub+ edition is still MIA.

  • guys anyone had experience with xbox live gold? Is it true that u r still able to play games after xbox live expires? If so I am might consider selling ps4 and just get xbox one :D

  • Have not played any of the Triple AAA PS+ games since DmC. Honestly have too much of a backlog. Especially Physically.

Don’t get why people complain….when they probably have tons of previous PS+ games to finish off. I get if you finished the ones you wanted to play and is disappointed.

Unfinshed Swan, Murasaki Baby, Guacamelee(wished the Vita/PS3 was complimentary like Dragon Crown was), and Hohukum are quality Indie titles.

Paying around 4.16 a month(50/12)…and this many games. What a steal.

Not sure about Race Sun and Ether One….never heard of them.

Vita users should be happy….4 titles in a month….amazing.

  • “+ Dasme on April 29th, 2015 at 9:26 am said:
Wow, 5 FREE PS4 titles in May and yet all I see is people complaining. Time to get over yourselves people and play some fun games. There is more to the hobby than COD and Madden. Just because something is indie doesn’t mean it’s bad.
Remember that the other console gets 1 game a month. We get multiples on each platform, hate all you want but that is a pretty fantastic deal. Keep it up Sony!”

    Disagree 100%.
You can’t act as if people who complaining about indie are only COD/Sports game players…
The indies they choose to put on their consoles are the problem.. there has to be better and more unique indies than what we receive.
The only decent game of this list im even looking forward to is Ether, otherwise I’m sure the rest will get very little play or even deletion after a day or two.

  • @ 70 B91212- – More people should think like you my friend, thats the real side of Plus and everybody should see it that way…most people who complain here are ignorants who probably…depends on Plus games to play which is damn huge shame.

  • Wow, this is a great line up!

  • Only indie games again?, I understand it for PS4 because doesn´t have a huge library of AAA games yet, because it has 1 year and a half. But PS3 have an enormous library of AAA games (old and new) that you can choose for PS Plus, but you only choose indies, for me that’s a shame. And in the case of Vita, also has some AAA games you can choose for Plus. So, Sony come on!!!!

  • Please get rid of the free games, they are since month trash (PS4) and get rid of the paywall for mp. Always problems with PSN, Updates take 3 hours ( for 245 mb) etc. etc.

What do you SONY with the money we pay for PSPLUS? WHAT?

Trash games, broken PSN….do you fill your wallets?

I am so tired of PS…no reason to renew PSPLUS, sorry i am going back to M$.

  • I already have half of these, but I was really looking forward to Ether One, so yay!

I’d so much rather have some new, creative four-hour indie games than three-year-old “AAA” games that anyone who cares about has already played. Keep ’em coming!

I will continue to laugh at people who bought a PS4 and then thought they wouldn’t have to buy any games. Like Plus replaced the concept of buying games you want. Good luck with that.

  • @102
I totally agree with you! Sick of ppl saying I don’t see why ppl complain blah blah blah! I don’t normally complain and if they like the free game lineup for May good for them, I want a couple retail games or good network games! So sick of boring puzzle games and crappy indie games! I realize plus doesn’t cost much a month, but it’s enough. I want some decent games!

  • A really good month for games this time. First month a in very long time where there is more than 1 I want to play. I want to play all fo them this time. Thanks.

  • u kidding us ? why u give us poor games ..every month same indie games low level games :\ we pay money and u give us bad games :|

  • I wish real gamers still existed.

Not these pathetic ones that only care about AAA games for less than $5 a month.

I paid more than $5 for almost each and every game up there.

I’m not complaining. Ether One is the only one I don’t have. They can’t give you games that cost millions to make, for $5 for 6 games across 3 platforms.

    It’s called math.

  • @103

that’s how it works on x360, but not on x1. x1 has the same exact model as igc. your xbl runs out and so do your games.

worth mentioning, the x1’s gwg has been just as bad as igc, if not worse.

  • I swear that gamers now a days are becoming no smarter than the politicians who want perfect encryption that law enforcement can access easily.

So you want as little and as much security as possible simultaneously?

So you want as expensive a game as possible for as little as you can possibly pay?

Unless Sony works out a Humble Bundle deal, it’s not gonna happen. Humble Bundle only works because it’s an anti-piracy, a marketing device, and while many people opt to pay $5 many people opt to pay thousands.

So until they create the Humble PS4/3/Vita Bundles where you can pay as little or as much as you want, you’re not going to get everything you want. Even then the Humble Bundle works because it gets people who pirated games to pay a few dollars to get legal access to them.

  • Guacamelee is a really good game, already bought it. Not really interested in games they keep recycling though. Makes PS plus boring.

  • 5 mediocre indie games cannot be compared to just one real game. it’s not that hard to understand.

  • It’s a decent lineup. Not resubscribe worthy lineup, which is the camp I’m in come May 4th, but decent. As a person who has played Guacamelee!, I ask that you give it a try. It will probably be frustrating to some of you who haven’t played Mega Man or other action games like it that much, but the story/jokes are great.

I think the only reason I feel this way is that they’re all already released indie games when the past 4 months we’ve seem to have gotten at least 1 brand new indie game on the PS3/Vita that just came out. I enjoyed MonsterBag, OlliOlli2, Kick & Fennick, and especially Rogue Legacy. There is just something about receiving something brand new for free that is hype worthy to me.

  • Japan had Tearaway, Disgaea 4, and Rayman Legends for Vita; Child of Light, Killzone Shadowfall, Natural Doctrine for PS4 in the past few months. I guess we don’t deserve any of them on our PS+ sub.

  • dot dot dot just going say this…

    GUTTER TRASH.

    have a nice day Sony.

  • “No AAA games this month” is the text book definition of a “first world problem.” Get some perspective folks.

  • only game here that looks semi playable is ether
    really bad month :/

  • This latest line up confirms my decision not to renew my PS+ membership when it ends in May. The last few months have been anemic. The only one that I’m interested to try is Race The Sun. I’m all for indie games but most of the offerings have been that in the past few months. Hence I am not renewing until I see a more solid line up that is worth signing up for another year.

  • My ps+ sub ends in August i believe. I hope at some point Sony will do a PS+ sub sale (been a long time since i seen a PS+ sale), because $50/year just for online play doesnt seem worth it.

Yes i do add all the games to my download list, but have yet to play any of them. I do it just cuz they are there to download, but doesnt mean they appeal to me.

Im not saying PS+ is bad, because i know a lot of people get a lot of use out of it. But i also know there are people out there like me, who see PS+ as being just a reason to be able to play online.

Hopefully at some point PS+ will add some good games. It would be nice if Street Fighter 4 (which is coming to PS4) would be free for those of us with PS+ and also already have bought the game on PS3.

  • atleast its free… i subscribe to plus+ just for the online save features.. lmfao
owning a vita and having so many games to manage is a PAIN.. but with online saves its manageable

usefull to prevent 3 years of lost data on the ps3 with online saves… my games will ALWAYS be where i left off no matter what console or year i play them

and with ps4.. its needed.. so lol need to have it anyway!

  • @120 Japan is a much different market. They gave Disgaea 3 on Vita on PS+, Europe had Cross-buy Child of Light, Killzone Shadowfall is cheap enough as it is and Western Shooters don’t do well in Japan, and you get all the maps for free, Natural Doctrine isn’t that great looking of a game, and I haven’t heard anyone care much for it…

    I recommend all these games.

What happened to gamers having an open mind and want to experiences.

Are you 12 year old brats?

  • Let’s Sony, you can do better! The last few months are very weak…. :(

  • good for everyone who decided not to re-sub after this. I decided the same thing several months ago and I didn’t miss anything.

  • For those complaining as usual nothing for me. Checkout the sales games released won’t please everyone.

  • and anyone reading this, go look at the sales on the store right now

insane amount of games for plus+ users CHEAP
saddly im not interested in any of the ps4 or vita titles since i own the ones i want
and the ps3 titles i want hard copies of XD

  • Gutter trash!!!

  • What a fantastic month! 5 ps4 games all with very high Metacritic ratings! Being an owner of all 3 systems I am super excited for this offering!

  • Playstation “Indie” Plus…

I already have Guacamelee… the other games are just… “I’ll put on my list of downloads and I’ll play them sometime when I don’t have a really AAA game to play”

  • Random indie garbage

  • While I am happy for all of the cross buy opportunities I am starting to get frustrated by the lack of AAA titles. I have enjoyed some of the indie titles over the last few months, but am ready for something different.

  • How Awesome !!! 5 new games coming into my PS4 next Tuesday !! I was wanting to try Guacamelee, Race the Sun and Hohokum for a while, and now they’ll all be “free” to me !! Keep going Sony guys, you rock !!

  • “Why are we getting guacamelee again? I thought I rule of PS Plus wasn’t to offer the same game over again.”

We never got Guacamelee in North America. It was on sale, but never in the IGC.

  • @127 Wow how’d you get it right? Yup I’m a 12 year old brat, and totally don’t have an open mind because I already have 4 out of the 6 games for May’s plus. Smh

  • I let my PSN year subscription expire the beginning of April and I haven’t renewed it for another year yet. I tried out the PS Now subscription on PS4 for about a week, and I was able to play Guacamelee on that and pretty much beat the game. It’s a fun game, but this month line up isn’t good for me to renew my subscription quite yet, and I’m not really much for multiplayer online games. I do play a MMO though: FFXIV. Fortunately that doesn’t require PS plus. I’m hoping next month has a better line up for games that might appeal to me.

  • That’s okay.

I’m sure we are all looking forward to having six indie games after the deluge of retail games we have been getting from PS Plus.

    Oh wait.

Awful. A year and a half after the PS4 launch, and the only retail game we’ve got on PS4 was a straight PS3 port of Injustice. And making it even worse, the PS3 offerings are worse than ever despite Sony having a massive catalog of games to draw from.

I’ve had Plus since the very first month Plus was offered. If we weren’t stuck paying for multiplayer now, I’d forget about renewing. It’s the same indie-fest month after month.

  • More indie trash? Very much overpriced at “free”

  • Wow! More free indies games… Who knew! This why I don’t buy indies games at full price anymore. I wait till they are free for Plus or when they are on sale for under $6 or $5.

  • I think this is a very generous lineup. All games playable on all PS consoles! Thank, Sony!

  • Is is just me or PS+ is worthless ?
Why are we getting these lame indie games ?

  • I only own a s PS4. So this month does offer me something to try…

But to summarize my feeling of the recent selection of free* games, at first I was amused by all the indie games, I even gave a couple of them a chance. However, since I joined in December, the only PS+ games that have held my attention for any length of time have been Injustice, and Second Son: First Light. While I’ll download and try to get into these indie games, so far I have not been able. I don’t think its too much to ask for a major title every other month, that is what I thought I was signing up for.

  • I do think this month will really be good. I always wanted to try out Unfinished Swan and Guacamelee. The other games do have my interest though. Also on the first two, Ps4 1080P 60 fps. Can’t beat that!
