Hi everyone! In January, we announced PlayStation Music, a new music destination that brings Spotify to PS4, PS3, and Xperia mobile devices in 41 markets around the world. This exclusive partnership brings the best in music and the best in gaming together on PlayStation Network, and I am thrilled to announce that Spotify on PlayStation Music is coming to PS4 and PS3 today!
Spotify is the exclusive partner of PlayStation Music, and with more than 30 million songs and 1.5 billion playlists, PS4 users can soundtrack their gaming sessions with their favorite songs. To make controlling your music even easier PS4 and PS3 users will be able to take advantage of the Spotify Connect feature on the official Spotify app for Android/iOS. You can select a playlist, skip songs, adjust the volume, and more.
PlayStation Network users can easily link their accounts to Spotify and use their account to subscribe to Spotify’s Premium service, which is available for $9.99 per month. If you want to check out Spotify’s Premium service first, we have the following offers in place:
- Music Unlimited subscribers with accounts active as of March 29, 2015, can receive 2 months of free access to Spotify Premium
- New and existing Spotify users who have not previously received a trial of Spotify Premium can receive one month free
This is just the beginning of Spotify on PlayStation Music, which will continue to evolve. We are working with the team at Spotify to bring new and exciting features exclusively to our platforms. You can learn more at the official site.
Thanks for Vita support.

Hit the Option button on PS4 when you click on Spotify.
There’s a option to delete it if you wish.
If you have a cell phone you can use Spotify connect with your cell and PS4.
Your cell will work as the remote….more info…go to Spotify and see the Help section for Playstation.
Also, just noticed for anyone without a cell phone.
I’ve been using Spotify for a while now.
There is an app for the pc, however, there is also a Spotify Beta app on the pc….you may have to search for it, but it’s there.
I use the Beta app on my pc so that I can connect and stream to my stereo system (note….only certain stereo systems have the ability…there’s a list on Spotify).
Anyways….I opened the Spotify Beta app on my pc and just saw that now there’s an option to stream to your PS4, as well as my home stereo or on my pc.
I can use the Spotify Beta app on my pc also as a remote to control Spotify.
This works a lot better than just using Spotify on the PS4, as you have all the custom features on the pc available.
Anyone having problems, leave a message and I’ll see if I can help you.
I’m going to paste the website for the Spotify Beta Connect on this site, but it’s going to have to be moderated, so you may have to come back later to grab it.
At least that way people won’t be trying to find it by googling the wrong site.

Unless there are going to be more options available under My Music and not just all my song listed in a row this is never going to work. I listen to music A LOT and these interfaces need to be fluid and easy to access with lots of listening options, (album, artist) under my library’s. The app on my iPad seems to have more options but the ps4 is downright bare (and I’m not going back and forth). Straight and to the point…..if you want me to pay for this, you need to do better.
Wow, it’s like the app developers never actually used Spotify before.
Talk about bare bones! How do I browse my saved artists and albums? Why is there no way to manage my song queue? Why can’t I go to the album or artist pages for the currently playing track? The PS4 app is missing major features, you pretty much need to use another device as a remote with Spotify Connect.
Can’t browse artists, can’t add to or manage playlists, can’t play albums in their correct order (has to be shuffle play) and shuffle on my bigger playlists only shuffles the first 30 songs rather than the entire list. What the hell? This a MASSIVE step backwards without the features being on par with Music Unlimited. Also, I’m forced to use my phone to control it rather than having it be a self-sufficient app? Garbage. Once my account is linked once, it should be linked for good. Turning the app off in my phone disables music at all until I re-open it. Absolutely annoyed by this whole thing. And to think I was going to upgrade to Spotify premium for this. Nope.
I know it just came out and is a free program, but the audio sucks.
haven’t read the other comments, but the best part of this is being able to play spotify in the background of games… like tonight i’m playing nba 2k15 and can turn up the announcers to hear them talk over the music… but can still hear the music, too. that’s so cool. ha. thanks, sony, and spotify! :)
Hey Spotify
If You See This Message It Means Your Dead.
I Know What Your Doing And You Know You Have To Share That Info With You,Spotify.
Do It.
Share My Work On Playstation…
Playstations Being A **** Hole.
Do What I Said,Share The Spotify Player With My Profile…
I Worked On Spotify When It First Came Out.I Have A Def Jam License,And A Last FM License.
Ok, I’m dreaming here.
Wouldn’t it be nice if Sony and Spotify could make the Vita the remote for Spotify on both PS3/PS4.
They have the ability on phones now, so hopefully this can happen.
Yeah, hate to be a broken record but not having Spotify on Vita is kind of backwards thinking.
I wouldn’t have minded it not being on Vita actually, but only if there was a way to Remote Play games while listening to music. You can’t play music off your memory card on Vita with Remote Play, and obviously Spotify doesn’t run with PS4 remote play either. Very interesting..
Why can’t I unlink a Playstation account from spotify? Seems incredibly short sighted to not have such a basic feature. I accidentally linked spotify to an unused account and it won’t give me the option to unlink them so that I can add my actual Sony account.
After playing around with the Spotify app, I was not remotely satisfied with the feature-set of the app, and have a myriad of issues with the app as it stands. This is coming from an avid Spotify user (I make and share playlists through it each week), so I do not mean this in a slight towards anyone remotely. I simply want to improve the user-experience for everyone by providing feedback from a dedicated fan.
I was writing a comment with a myriad or qualms, concerns, suggestions and requests, but my comment somewhat outgrew the 1250 character limit, so I posted a more touched up entry on my website. I sincerely hope that the lovely developers and service providers of the app take a look.

As I said before, I’m writing this because I’m a fan of Spotify. I used Music Unlimited for months and absolutely loved it. When I heard that Spotify was going to replace it, I started to acclimate myself to the service on PC and Mobile ahead of time and ultimately fell in love with it. That’s why I am writing this — not because I feel entitled to a better product — but because I everyone should enjoy the same great product that’s on PC and Mobile on their PS4.
I have had Music Unlimited for 3 years. I have built some very large playlists in that time. I am so disappointed that I was not given a chance to copy any of my playlists over to Spotify. My daughter had a playlist that had all kid friendly music on it, no cursing and a lot of kidz bop songs. Is there anyway we could get those song titles from our Music Unlimited playlist so that we can build them in Spotify?
Meanwhile, us Canadians got a useless box for a service we don’t (and probably never will) have that we can’t delete. Awesome!
as an addendum to my earlier post about being able to play spotify during games… i now found out i can hold the ps button, taking me to the Quick Menu screen, allowing me to adjust the audio of the song i’m’listening to on spotify. so, there is no need to adjust the audio of the game (or the commentators of an nba2k game like i did, earlier). the Quick Menu shows the name and album thumbnail for the current track you’re playing. i’m enjoying this feature, since i like to break out the Playstation Gold headset after everyone else in the house goes to bed. ever since VidZone i was hoping for a feature like this. i never subscribed to Music Unlimited, so i don’t know if this feature has previously existed, so i aplogize if it’s nothing new. regardless… i’m still excited. ha.
I actually liked the Music Unlimited app and I was just about to resubscribe when I learned about this. Not sure what I think about this, but I really wish companies would stop doing stupid stuff like this.
@168 musicman2059.
Not sure what you’re stating there, but Spotify is available to us as well in Canada.
I’ve had it a while now and it does work very well.
The PS3/PS3 works much better with remote play (my stereo system actually uses the Spotify remote as as it’s called Spotify Connect as well; there’s no way to control it via the receiver actually, it’s via the Spotify connect apps).
Still, I wish the Vita in the near future will be our Spotify connect (remote) device.
That way Spotify and Sony will make even more people happy as there are many that had Music Unlimited on the Vita that are missing that option now.
I know I used Music Unlimited a lot on my Vita.
sorry above meant to say PS4/PS3….
Is there an option to delete this for people who don’t give a crap about it? I don’t want stuff on my system I’m not gonna use taking up space.
hola cuando llega a mi ps4 spotify en colombia? gracias.
@173 – Remmy8199.
Yep, it’s deletable.
Click the Options button while hovering over it and there’s a delete option.
I’m not sure if this has been answered already (didn’t see it in the four pages of comments at a quick glance), but for those of you having trouble logging in on the app because you normally use Facebook credentials to login (like me):
1. Login using Facebook on spotify.com
2. Go to your Account Settings using dropdown in top-right of header
3. Scroll down the page and click on “Set Password” button
4. The next page will give you your “username” that has been created for you (mine is a random bunch of numbers) — write this down so you can use it to log in on your console. Then click the button to receive the email from Spotify.
5. Check your email, and click on the button “Set device password”
6. Set your non-Facebook credentials password
7. Use the username provided in step 4 above, and the password you have just set, to login on your console.
Alternatively, if you can get the “connect” part of the mobile app to work, that seems to be much easier — my phone wasn’t immediately able to find my console though, so I had to follow the steps above.
Hope somebody finds this helpful :)
***ATTN: SONY! – IMPROVEMENTS NEEDED!***
1. Screensaver badly needed while in the Spotify app. Not just static images, which can burn-in Plasma screens.
2. In “Your Music”, it just has a song list. It should also show ALBUMS that you have added. Otherwise, you always have to do a search for the artist and find album again.
I just started using Spotify with my PS4 and I love it.
One problem though, a big one at that, is the SHUFFLE feature. It only mixes maybe 20 out of the songs I have in my playlist. If this a ‘free’ restriction, I request that a full shuffle feature be brought to the free users as well. Thanks for your work! (^_^)
Spotify app needs a huge update, a few examples.
My music library needs to be more accessible rather than having to sell through your songs why not be able to narrow down by artist, album etc.
You should be able to make your own Playlist on the Playstation app.
The Playstation app needs the radio option that is on the android/iOS version.
what about the time i have left on music unlimited :( when i bought it i got it for a year i still had it till 07/18/2015?
do i get a refund or something? who do i call
After some random use, yes it definitely DOES need a visualizer stat. Or at least an independent one we can open up… or both.
@170: do you have brain damage? It works in Canada. I’m in BC and have been using it since it came out. Spotify came to Canada awhile ago.
Is it available in Argentina??
@185 – bbswarrior_11.
Here’s are the countries it’s available for Playstation Music:
Where is Spotify® available on PlayStation™Music?
Spotify® is now available on PlayStation™Music in Andorra, Austria, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria (English only), Canada, Chile, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark (English only), Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong (English and Traditional Chinese only), Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Malta, Mexico, Monaco, New Zealand, Netherlands, Norway (English only), Peru, Poland, Portugal (English only), Singapore, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan***, Turkey, UK and USA.
It is available in Argentina, but just not on Playstation Music.
So you could use it on your phone or pc, just not on the PS4/PS3 at the moment.
Hopefully Sony and Spotify will be adding more countries to the list.
If you go to Spotify online and search, you’ll see there’s a huge list of countries it is available in.
However, Eric’s comment included a link for Playstation Music, so I guess in the coming mths, we’ll see that expand a bit more.
@182 – HeroRex
You’d have to contact Sony.
Mine also states June of this year, but mine was charged mthly and for the month of Mar 2015, Sony didn’t charge anyone…it was free.
Info below:
You may contact us by phone Mon – Fri, 8AM – 8PM Pacific or Sat, 7AM – 6PM Pacific
by calling 800-345-SONY. The average wait time is up to 15 minutes. (Closed on Sunday).
Will it ever come to a point where music can be used when brodcasting games? Or will i need to go buy a capture card for this ability?
I’m a premium subscriber how do I select hight quality extreme on my PS3 ? I don’t see any settings where I can select high quality on my PS3 spotify app? Thanks
@190 – ENVYTHECRUZ09.
I thought it was on the PS4/PS3 as well, but it’s not.
Since you’re a Premium subscriber though, you have the ability for High Quality.
To do it, get Spotify Connect on your cell phone and in the Preferences tab is where you can select High Quality.
If you don’t have a cell or don’t wish to load the app on the cell (also an ipad), there’s also the pc Spotify Connect that will do the same.
Also, Spotify Connect on the cell or pc can also be used as a remote for the PS4/PS4 version of Spotify and works very well.
Go to Spotify to grab the pc version (I put the link above and it had to be moderated…see comment @155 to get the pc version.
Android setup:
Tap the menu User-added image button.
Tap Settings.
Under Music Quality, select Normal, High or Extreme.
Iphone setup
Tap the menu User-added image button.
Tap Settings.
Tap Music Quality.
Select Normal, High or Extreme.
Ipad setup
Tap the Settings Settings iPad button.
Scroll down and tap stream.
Select Normal, High or Extreme.
Winphone setup
Tap the menu button.
User-added image
Tap Settings.
Tap Music Quality.
Select Normal, High or Extreme.
pc setup
Click Edit in the menu bar.
Select Preferences.
Under Music Quality switch High quality streaming (Premium only) on (green).
Ok so by me doing it on my cell phone and selecting high quality extreme I will have hight quality sound when I log on my PS3 correct? I have a full surround sound and I like good sound. So thanks
So Music Unlimited remains on the home screen even after installing the Spotify app? Why Sony? Why?
This app is all kinds of jank. Easier to just buy a DAC with optical in to 3.5mm out to a PC and use spotify there. Seriously though adding artists on the PS4 app looks like an impossibility to where it’s like they’re forcing you to use the mobile app to actually use the thing.
@193 – ENVYTHECRUZ09
Yes,
Note as well, that if you are using Spotify Connect, you don’t need to start the app up on the console.
You can start it on the phone/ipad/pc and click on the Playstation console (PS4/PS3) and it will start automatically on the console.
You are controlling it remotely in other words….I find it much easier on the Spotify Connect device to control and find music than on the playstation consoles.
Check the Music Settings on the PS3 as well.
More is in the Knowledge center, but here’s a bit.
(I set my PS3 to bitmapping 3)
PS3:
Adjusting settings for upsampled output
Select [Linear PCM 2 Ch. 88.2 kHz] or [Linear PCM 2 Ch. 176.4 kHz] under Settings icon (Settings) > Sound Settings icon (Sound Settings) > [Audio Output Settings].
Select [44.1/88.2/176.4 kHz] under Settings icon (Settings) > Sound Settings icon (Music Settings) > [Output Frequency]. Audio is upsampled and output at a frequency of either 88.2 kHz or 176.4 kHz depending on the audio equipment in use.
If necessary, adjust settings under Settings icon (Settings) > Sound Settings icon (Music Settings) > [Bitmapping] to match your preferences.
You can further improve the playback quality by adjusting this setting.
If [Output Frequency] is set to [44.1/88.2/176.4 kHz], you cannot use other features such as Settings (Photo) or Settings (Internet Browser) while the music is playing. You must set to [48 kHz] to use these features while listening to music.
Playback quality will vary depending on the content being played and the playback conditions of the audio equipment in use
On my PS4, I set the sound for DTS output and found that is the best quality.
Then just play around with the high end stereo with the sounds to find one that suits your taste.
I like MultiChannel or All channel stereo the best…that way sound is coming from every speaker and the sub as well.
Good luck.
Actually glad you asked and I looked at the Knowledge center.
Was wondering why on the PS3 I couldn’t go to the Browser or do other functions while playing music and I see now that if you have your settings on a higher quality than 48 kHz, you can’t do both.
If [Output Frequency] is set to [44.1/88.2/176.4 kHz], you cannot use other features such as Settings (Photo) or Settings (Internet Browser) while the music is playing. You must set to [48 kHz] to use these features while listening to music.
Playback quality will vary depending on the content being played and the playback conditions of the audio equipment in use.
PS4 you can do multiple things while listening to higher quality.
So happy that this is here!! It’ll be awesome once it’s an actual functioning Spotify app compared to the crappy thing it is at the moment. The new app sucks in comparison to every Spotify app out there for every single device ever. Selecting random (shuffle) when you have a playlist selected only chooses about 40 songs to randomly go through repeatedly. My playlist is 1400+ songs and only selecting a small 40 song segment of that is stupid. Also, there should be a way to view your playlist as a list in order to easily scroll through it. Also being able to sort your playlist would be great too. So basically my main complaints have to do with playlists. Searching for songs and playing them works just like it should except that I had to select the search button about 4 times before the keyboard came up. Again, super excited that this exists!! I just wish it was a better version of the app. My cell phone’s version of it is far superior and that shouldn’t be the case when you think of the computing power that the PS4 has.
