Q.U.B.E: Director’s Cut Out This Summer on PS4, PS3

Hi everybody. It’s Jakub from Grip Games. A few months ago, our friends at Toxic Games announced that their brain-twisting first-person puzzler Q.U.B.E. was heading to PS4 and PS3. Since then, we’ve taken over the development and publishing duties from them, so that Toxic Games can focus on their future projects while we will bring you the best version of Q.U.B.E yet — the Q.U.B.E: Director’s Cut.

Q.U.B.E: Director’s Cut

Q.U.B.E: Director’s Cut is a first-person puzzle game. You wake up inside a mysterious white cube and you will have to solve dozens of physics-based puzzles and platforming challenges, using a pair of hi-tech gloves that can manipulate some parts of the environment to get out.

What’s new and really cool about the Director’s Cut version is the story. It’s like the story itself is a puzzle you have to figure out inside your own head. It’s hard to explain, I don’t want to spoil it! The new story was created by veteran writer Rob Yescombe. He’s written for games like The Division, Alien: Isolation, Rime, and the Crysis franchise.

The second major addition is a time-trial game mode, called Against the Qlock, where the game pits you against the clock. Combining precision, logic, and quick reactions you’ll have to speed through each of the ten levels using a variety of pick-ups to your advantage.

Q.U.B.E: Director’s Cut is coming to both PS4 and PS3 and will be released this summer. The game’s on Unreal Engine, so expect it to look sleek and gorgeous, and the PS4 version will run in 1080p at 60 frames per second. And like with all our games, we’re supporting cross buy.

  • No vita? :(

  • So the addition of a story is new? Crazy.

  • Is this like the old PlayStation One game called Cube? Anyways sold on this.

  • That first screenshot really reminds me of Intelligent Qube for PS1, which was a phenomenal game.

  • I love the visual style of the game! Would love this to support Morpheus when the time comes.

  • looks great! will it support 3DTVs like many PS3 and some PS4 titles have?

    any Move support planned?

same cool soundtrack as before, or is there new music? are the audio assets 24-bit FLAC, or at least 320kbps Ogg?

  • When one has played Catherine, one wishes to never look a cube ever again.

  • If only this wasn’t first person…. definitely be interested in this except the perspective’s a dealbreaker… sorry.

  • @8 I used to be like you, I hated first person games. Then I played the first Portal. Since then I have played a vast quantity of varying FP games, including Bioshock Infinite, which was my GotY 2013.

Anyways, the point here is to be open minded, otherwise you miss out on good games.

Speaking of Portal, this reminds me of that. I’m looking forward to it.

  • played it on pc, would definitely pick it up again. really hoping for Morpheus support being added in the future maybe?

  • Thats a nice concept…looking forward to see the game in action. Please a demo for PS3…any word on that?

  • @9 Nah, I’m not being closedminded. The perspective just kills my connection to the game. I feel no connection to the character, the experience, or the story since ‘first person’ games feel so disjointed to me.

I’ve actually written at length on the subject for my website at one point… but basically it comes down to the fact that first person games feel like I’m looking through a camera slightly in front of the character’s face, not their eyes. I don’t feel like I am the character, but I also don’t get to KNOW the character… so it’s just a horrible experience.

Until we get the tech that can actually deal with the issues that make first person so unrealistic… I don’t see myself EVER enjoying a first person game.

  • I just wanted to say that I contacted Grip Games once and Jakub responded with a fairly lengthy response. I really appreciate you taking the time to respond to me.

I would love to see this on Vita but I will buy it for sure.

  • Can we get some demos for your games on the PS3? I would also like to request Jet Car Stunts for PS Plus on the PS3.

  • what about us who already bought it for steam? :P

  • Really happy that there is a story added. And I like how you are making it a bit of a mystery! I bought the original game on Mac when it came out and enjoyed, it but usually prefer to play games like this on my system. i will pick it up when it is on sale sometime…..and I don’t mean that in a disparaging way…..just that I already played the original! :)

  • Was this game inspired by the movie Cube?
