Oreshika: Tainted Bloodlines Coming to PS Vita on March 3rd

It’s been a long time since we’ve brought you any news on Oreshika: Tainted Bloodlines, but I’m excited to announce that this unique JRPG will be available as a digital download on PS Vita via PlayStation Store for $19.99 starting on March 3rd!

Oreshika: Tainted Bloodlines

So what does Oreshika bring to fans of the genre? Well, first of all there’s the striking graphic style. Set in ancient Japan, the game art delivers a rich world inspired by traditional brush paintings of the Heian era. You’ll be exploring a beautiful, watercolor world filled with weird and wonderful creatures based on Japanese mythology. Oh, and we’ve kept the fantastic Japanese voiceover which fits in with the atmosphere perfectly.

The gameplay is quite unique, too. In Oreshika, you’ll take control of a clan whose bloodlines have been struck with two terrible curses — a Curse of Ephemerality, and a Curse of Broken Lineage.

The Curse of Ephemerality means that your clan members age rapidly with a maximum lifespan of around 2 years. As you explore labyrinths, defeat demons, and find treasures, the clock of in-game time is always ticking so it’s important to plan your moves strategically. In Oreshika, no matter how skilled you are in battle or how strong your equipment is, your characters will face death and so it’s your job to make sure your clan’s family tree grows new members to step up to the ranks.

But therein lies the catch as the Curse of Broken Lineage means that your clan members can no longer procreate… Luckily you can turn to the gods for help. By performing the Rite of Divine Union with a god, a new clan member will be created. It’s important to choose carefully which gods you perform the Rite with as the genetic makeup will be a combination of the ‘parent’ clan member and the chosen god which affects stats as well as appearance. And with well over 100 gods to meet in game, there are a lot of deities to discover!

Oreshika: Tainted Bloodlines

And while we’re on the topic of gods, I should mention that for a period of two weeks from launch, you’ll receive the gods Kiri no Mashū and Tonkararin as a special bonus when you purchase the game! So make sure you don’t miss out on this chance to bag these two rare gods that can’t otherwise be unlocked through gameplay.

  • No physical = no buy.

    Disappointing.

  • – No Dub
    – No Physical
    – Stealth release
    – Wasting even more space on my already full 64GB
    – Sony doesn’t seem interested on making people know they have some Vita support. Hyperdimension Neptunia gets way more advertising and support than Sony games lol.
+ $19.99 is a good price and that’s what all digital releases should be
    + Game looks interesting

If I get this you’re lucky sony, means I had extra cash lol

  • Why is this digital only when Idea factory of all companies has their vita games physical. If a company as small as Idea Factory can then it just makes sony look pathetic/uncaring.

  • Come on guys, do a physical release too, how could you give PS Vita Pets one, yet this incredible looking game doesn’t, it’s mind-numbing..

  • I was really excited for this… a little unexpected coming out so soon. I think I’ll get it, but I may have to wait with so much already coming out.

  • I don’t mind digital only and $20 is an amazing price for this game
    thanks Sony

  • @53
Dont forget a small company like IF actually dubs their games. Sony just keeps showing me they dont really care for the vita. Shame to since I was really looking forward to this title and since it was taking so long I thought idk maybe sony was taking actual care with translation, but nope.

  • March is officially the month of the JRPG… we have four good sized JRPGs confirmed for Western release…

I mean, Sony, I appreciate the gesture, and it’s a great birthday present for me… but how am I EVER going to find time to play all of these?

  • Truly disappointing. I would have bought it if it were physical, at this point it will wait until its $5 or PS+. It pains me how badly SCEA treats the Vita. Though I doubt anyone from SCEA will even read the comments, that might show they care.

  • Finally! I was wondering when it was going to be released and it’s half the price too! Please keep those games coming.

  • I wanted to buy this game day one
But Digital release only? no way, only at extremely reduced price.
Im getting tired of the digital onlu trend on the Vita, if Japan and somtimes even europpe gets a retail release then we should to!

  • Well, this sucks. I can’t believe that the game is Digital-only, one of my most anticipated titles this year and they screw us over with a digital-only release. Honestly, I hope you guys reconsider and put the game on a cartridge. Hey, if it worked with Freedom Wars in Europe maybe we can start a riot and have them bring the game over here physically!

  • The last big first party game and you can’t even give it a proper retail release. Shame on you, Sony. Disgusting what you have done to the Vita and most of all to your customers.

  • I’m surprised there are a few straw man arguments between trolling regarding this game… :/

  • Sony please do not let these idiots who are the minority that love to whine and complain deter you from releasing games like these in the West. These people would be ungrateful for anything you do anyways.

I do love collecting physical games- I have my whole life. I’d definitely prefer to purchase this physically as well but a digital purchase would not sway me from missing out on this great game- or any game for that matter.

To all you people who leave extremely embarrassing comments, grow up. I’ve been a collector of videogames for over 20 years and this is life. There are always going to be obstacles that you do not like, well guess what the world doesn’t revolve around you. Sony made its decision and we are getting the game regardless AT A GREAT PRICE. Just reread your pitiful comments and slap yourself with shame.

  • I may feel sad that this game will be digital and that it’s a silent release in the month of busy games like Bloodborne for example, but this is good that it’s priced $20 and that it’s still planning to release it.

We can try get our voices loud enough for a physical release.

  • Great I was really looking forward to this and 19.99 is a steal. Now Sony please localize God eater 2, lost dimension, final fantasy agito, danganronpa another episode, edition, lost song, saga and senran estival. For those complaining for 64 card go to playasia .com and buy for 83.99 pricey but worth it I have all my digital on my vita now. Also some games like soul sacrifice delta you can get with English on site. Saying your not going to buy the digital games aren’t helping our vita situation of a lack of games.

As before I said Sony should drop vita to 150, get one big physical release a month.make a gravity rush 2 and killzone 2 and hyper light drifter for physical release . And a coming soon and pre-order section on vita store.

Bundle vita with ps4 for 500

  • Is it dubbed or subbed? Either way, I’m really happy we’re getting this.

  • Digital only.
Sony, you’re cruel. Poor PSVITA. :(

  • I’m very upset about this being digital-only, but I’ll still be getting it on launch. That’s pretty disrespectful for one of the most highly-anticipated first party titles on this platform. It feels like Sony is the only company who doesn’t have any hope for the vita.

That all aside, the game itself looks incredible.

  • @65
Yea lets praise sony for being horriblely lazy with translation and give them money for doing so. I don’t care its 20 bucks I was waiting for this game for so long and now they pull this bs the deserve anything that’s coming. First freedom wars now this. I swear if it wasint for other like if,nis and more the vita would be dead to me since its clear sony doesint give a crap about it.

  • @70

SCEA to be specific. SCEJ still put their trust on the Vita.

  • @72:

Oh, yeah, I agree. SCEJ is rockin’ it, and the support for the vita in Japan is nothing short of impressive. In these next few months alone I have several imports lined up (extremely hyped for Umihara Kawase Chirari and IA/VT!). Granted, I have just as many games I’m interested in coming to the west soon, but I just wish SCEA would have a brighter outlook for this thing.

  • The writing has been on the wall for at least the past year, people. The Vita is DYING. As someone who owns a Playstation TV and suffering from the same memory space woes as many of you (but dealing with it), it’s a miracle that third parties have not already completely abandoned it for mobile and/or the 3DS. But what amazes me even more is your capacity to constantly complain as a community when you’re actually being given a gift. A brand new game, exclusive to the Vita, retaining the original Japanese voice tracks, coming out at a bargain price, and all you do is b#$%& about there not being a physical release. Do you not realize that this might be the only way that several companies can afford to bring unique games like these to the platform in the near future? I’d rather have some way to play the game (digital, that is) rather than not at all. The Vita would as already be dead if it depended on physical alone to survive. So good luck hammering the final nails in the Vita’s coffin with your stubbornness.

  • @74
You make it sound like sony giving us the game sub only is a good thing. No sorry it shows they are cheap and lazy and just don’t care about their translation process. So yea screw them and I don’t care if it blows up in their face.

    @67
Dear god I hope sone doesint get their lazy mits on god eater 2.

  • @75
God Eater 2 is Namco Bandai.
    OreShika is Sony.

  • Yakuza 5 was recently (finally) announced for Western release. I currently own the Japanese import, still unopened because I’m working through the earlier games that were released here. But I will gladly sell Japanese copy off and buy digital NA version if that is the only way I’ll be able to get it here (provided the localization is faithful and complete as possible). I’m not going to pass up on a game I “must play” simply because it’s a digital only release. Don’t look gift horses in the mouth, people. You’re just hurting yourselves and the developers that you claim to support.

  • @74 No one said, retail only nor asking Sony to print millions of copy and flood the stores. But in this case, there isn’t even an option. If digital only w/ DRM is the future, I’ll probably end up sooner quitting gaming than fully embrace that future. Had digital only been a DRM free future, then that’s another story. But it’s not, not on consoles at least.

  • yeah sorry Sony, I was going to buy this , I’m a HUGE fan of Japan Studio’s games but I’m not supporting digital only games . I’ll do like Soulsacrifice Delta and wait for an asian physical version with english subs . missed opportunity guys !

  • @77
So I should blindly support them just cause they are bringing it over? I’m sorry I won’t support this half hearted attemp at translation. Sony has no excuse since for god sakes its sony not some small company. If it hurts them then oh well. I have to speak with my wallet and I simple thank you sony for dissapointing me again.

  • Gladly pay 20 for this. Would have avoided if it was 40 at Digital…as I only pay that for Physical….cause I can turn it around for 30-20 when I am done with it.

  • Awesome.

  • Found this vid, should help ppl decide if this is for them.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DGYFlSzZBq0

  • Okay, now give us a Digimon: Cyber Sleuth announcement.

  • Disappointed in the lack of a physical release, was looking forward to adding this to my physical collection, “c’est la vie” I guess.
Still planning to get this regardless, that 20$ price point is really reeling me in and it looks like the kind of game I’d have a good kick out of it.
Just hoping I’m done with what God Eater 2 Rage Burst has to offer by then, I’d like to avoid having this on the backburner for too long only to forget it until god knows how long.

  • sucks to see such fickle fans. i’m just happy to be getting it at all. day 1!

  • Was this a PS1 or 2 game back back in Japan? I know this is a sequel but what was the original on? Looks like a interesting mechanic.

    • You’re correct – Oreshika: Tainted Bloodlines is indeed a sequel. The original game (Ore no Shikabane wo Koete Yuke) was released only in Japan on PS back in 1999.

  • morons in kz3 banned me twice, so there no way i’ll buy a digital only game. PLEASE! dont do this with gravity rush 2.

  • Love how they’re very selective to who they reply to…

  • I am glad that the game is coming to the West, and at such a low price to boot. Yet, the lack of promotion, bar one brief video, and the absence of a physical release are condemnable.
I will eventually purchase the game; if a physical release was also incoming, I would be purchasing the game sooner that I now will.

  • I only buy physical releases at premium prices. I don’t buy digital outside the ~$1 – $5 range.

That being said, I have as much money as you desire to throw at a physical release. Special order directly through the publisher? Sold. Here I stand, ready to pay whatever for a physical release. Want to charge me $150 for a physical release? Go right ahead, I’ll buy it.

If I have to custom-order my games to be physically released, I will do that.

However I refuse to buy digital. The choice then, is yours (dev/publisher).

  • What no physical release?
Screw you Sony!, I refuse to buy it then!

  • Okay well FML not only does it go free after I buy the physical limited edition but now its being localized. Well lucky me =(

  • @Shadow_Enz
    that’s exactly how I feel.

  • This game looks up my alley, and I’ll eventually get it. But, like others, I would have much preferred a physical release, and am disappointed there isn’t one.

  • @88
Well of course. I mean they won’t admit they are cheap and lazy.

  • @73
Yeah, true. I don’t know about the other one, but I do hope for IA/VT localization. I need that in my life for my rhythm game craze.

  • I agree that it’s sad SCEA can’t/won’t give this a physical release, but I’m glad it’s coming stateside in some form.

  • Way to continue failing. No phys = NO BUY! Seriously, just go all digital already and when everyone migrates back to NINTENDO or god forbid PC/****box, maybe you’ll learn the lesson this company sorely needs. Do any of the idiots running this show even remember the epic FAIL that was PSPgo?!

You guys release portables and don’t back them, remove BC for no reason other than tp milk users and release a console that clearly was not ready for prime time (PS4) the lock-ups, terrible browser and CONSTANT game resets/ejects are inexcusable. You clowns can’t even include PHYSICAL OST’s with “Collectors/Limited” editions, come on. Get your **** together already.
