Warhammer: End Times — Vermintide Unveiled for PS4

Fatshark is proud to announce Warhammer: End Times – Vermintide, a game we’ve been working hard on for the past two years.

We’ve been wanting to make a Warhammer game since a group of us at Fatshark started playing Warhammer Fantasy Battle together in our spare time back in 2004. At the time, we lacked the experience and the team to build a game that we felt would live up to our dreams.

Warhammer: The End Times

After having worked on a number of games and watched the team grow in size, we finally set out to build our most ambitious game to date in an IP that we are incredibly passionate about.

Vermintide is a co-operative action first person shooter and melee combat adventure set in the End Times of the iconic Warhammer Fantasy universe.

The game takes place in and around Ubersreik, a city overrun by Skaven. Players will assume the role of one of five heroes, each featuring different play-styles, abilities, gear and personality. Working cooperatively, players must use their individual attributes to survive an apocalyptic invasion from the hordes of relentless rat-men, known as the Skaven. Battles will take place across a range of environments stretching from the top of the Magnus Tower to the bowels of the Under Empire.

Working with Games Workshop has been a dream come true as well as an absolute joy. Vermintide will be published by Fatshark and so we retain a lot of creative control in building the game we want to make. Additionally, we work tightly with Games Workshop to ensure that the right Warhammer feel is accomplished. This has helped ensure that our vision of Warhammer aligns with theirs. It helps us feel confident that our game really looks and feels Warhammer – something that is incredibly important to us.

Having built titles like War of the Roses in the past has taught us a great deal about working with melee combat, and we are building Vermintide to be a first person game that handles both ranged and melee combat in a viscerally impressive manner.

We always knew we wanted Vermintide to be a cooperative experience and have designed every aspect of the game to coincide with this vision. Everything from the loot system to the narrative is built to enhance the co-op. It’s a game about surviving to the end with your friends.

We hope you’re as excited about the game as we are!

  • Interesting. Always down for some good ol’ coop. Is this planned for PS4 and/or PS3? And I personally would love split screen. Feels like a dying breed these days. But I’ll still give it a chance.

  • @1 It says PS4 in the title :p, but I support a love for splitscreen coop :)

@Fatshark, I’m cautiously optimistic. I think the Skaven have been begging to be the big baddy in a game at some point, and I like the Idea of a FPS Melee/ranged combat featuring them, as long as half the enemies aren’t large rats that we have to look down at, I hope there are some Ratogres! And more than a few Plague and Storm Rats.

I really liked Krater for the time I spent with it, and I.. couldn’t get along with War of the Roses, I kept trying to play it like Mount and Blade or Chivalry, and since it was neither I gave up on the combat before I got good at it (My bad) but that is to say that I didn’t feel it wasn’t newb friendly.. But this game isn’t WotR either, and I doubt it’ll have that kind of combat :p

I believe in you guys, several years have passed, I hope this is an outstanding game, or atleast fun to play. I hope you guys can take your time with it! Put out the best product you can, please, the world isn’t tired of poorly optimized “finished games” with bugs. I hope you guys aren’t on a hard deadline :-/

  • Fatshark?

As in Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 and Escape Dead Island Fatshark?

Yeah, I’m sorry, but I think I’m going to have to pass here. Maybe if it gets good reviews, but you guys really, really don’t have the best track record.

  • I love the Warhammer fantasy universe and have aways wanted THE great video game to arise from its pages. The main problem so far seems to have been that every genre they try already has too stellar an example to compete against.

Witch hunters are awesome. Judicial Champions are even better. Gimme both, boys!

  • The game above sounds so awesome and I have a million reasons but I have another question I’m desperate for advice on as the price for it brand new is so tempting, nothing is ever that cheap so soon.

I DO HAVE A QUESTION ABOUT A DIFFERENT GAME THAT SOMEONE HERE HAS TO HAVE ADVICE FOR OR SOMEWHAT OF AN ANSWER. I can’t tell even with all the research. The consensus is no, not worth $30 but I need to now if someone liked AC3, will they like UNITY on PS4? AC3 was the first in the series I put much time into it. He’s just way too tired.

  • I have no answer for _ASH_ but I do have a question for Martin Wahlund.
Will there be any of the cool characters, weapons, vehicles or armor from the actual Warhammer figurine table top world?
The amount of detail and imagination in the warhammer paraphernalia is amazing. Having some and playing some with friends I can see this to be true to the world of Warhammer or another sad take like the unmentionable console game of yore. From Mr Wahlunds’ description this looks to be an amazing concept from true fans. I look forward to more in the coming months about this game.

  • @Slizarus We have for sure taken our time with the Vermintide and haven’t set a fixed release date yet. We are also in control of everything about the game and will make sure we are happy with the game before it releases. Be sure to sign up at vermintide.com/newslett
We are for sure working to make something special and an outstanding experience!
er/ if you are interested in giving feedback and joining betas and such further down the road.

We are for sure working to make something special and an outstanding experience

  • @spacemonkeyham No price set yet. Stay tuned for more info! ;)

@ L337-D4D As core Warhammer fans for a very long time ( I still have my 3rd edition Warhammer Fantasy Battle rules at home along with a Chaos army which was well before GW split up Chaos into three different armies) we are really embracing the soul of Warhammer and want to add as much cool stuff as possible. As you say there is no end to the lore available, the hardest part is to pick out which part that should be in the game! But I am sure you will find some of your favourite stuff in the game! :)

  • Are you the same devs that did Lead and Gold Gangs? That seems to have been pretty well received and gameplay videos look polished.

This Warhammer game looks pretty good and I might try to talk a few friends into getting it. Will the entire campaign be playable coop?

Please post here again closer to release. Any preorder bonuses? Otherwise I might wait for feedback. Nothing personal but as a general rule of thumb I look for gameplay footage before buying any game.

  • need more gameplay and details warhammer seems good but not sure about this one.

  • I made it up to co op FPS.

  • Wish it was third person instead

  • @2 Well, I feel stupid. Read the article, but missed that in the title.

    Splitscreen for Life! :D

  • The screenshots make me think of Mordheim, which I am 100% down for if that’s the case! I’m up for anything Warhammer / 40K though so this will be a fun one

  • @5 @xix_ASH_xix Don’t waste your money on Assassin’s Creed Unity. I’ve played all the AC games and not only is it the worst in the series, it is quite possible the most tedious game I have ever played. Besides being released prematurely and broken, and not even being able to play the game until after the 4th patch, the gameplay and story are frustrating, repetitive, and boring. I barely got an ounce of fun out of Unity. Definitely not worth $30.

  • @big_bob002 Yes you will be able to play all missions in co-op mode!

We will for sure be back here with more info about the game! Yes we made Lead and Gold.

  • Warhammer co-op for all missions and with split screen?! YES! YES! YES! I’ll have to keep my eye on this.
