Fatshark is proud to announce Warhammer: End Times – Vermintide, a game we’ve been working hard on for the past two years.
We’ve been wanting to make a Warhammer game since a group of us at Fatshark started playing Warhammer Fantasy Battle together in our spare time back in 2004. At the time, we lacked the experience and the team to build a game that we felt would live up to our dreams.
After having worked on a number of games and watched the team grow in size, we finally set out to build our most ambitious game to date in an IP that we are incredibly passionate about.
Vermintide is a co-operative action first person shooter and melee combat adventure set in the End Times of the iconic Warhammer Fantasy universe.
The game takes place in and around Ubersreik, a city overrun by Skaven. Players will assume the role of one of five heroes, each featuring different play-styles, abilities, gear and personality. Working cooperatively, players must use their individual attributes to survive an apocalyptic invasion from the hordes of relentless rat-men, known as the Skaven. Battles will take place across a range of environments stretching from the top of the Magnus Tower to the bowels of the Under Empire.
Working with Games Workshop has been a dream come true as well as an absolute joy. Vermintide will be published by Fatshark and so we retain a lot of creative control in building the game we want to make. Additionally, we work tightly with Games Workshop to ensure that the right Warhammer feel is accomplished. This has helped ensure that our vision of Warhammer aligns with theirs. It helps us feel confident that our game really looks and feels Warhammer – something that is incredibly important to us.
Having built titles like War of the Roses in the past has taught us a great deal about working with melee combat, and we are building Vermintide to be a first person game that handles both ranged and melee combat in a viscerally impressive manner.
We always knew we wanted Vermintide to be a cooperative experience and have designed every aspect of the game to coincide with this vision. Everything from the loot system to the narrative is built to enhance the co-op. It’s a game about surviving to the end with your friends.
We hope you’re as excited about the game as we are!
