A Holiday Thank You

Hi Everyone,

Happy New Year! Since access to PlayStation Network was impacted during the holidays, we wanted to show our appreciation for your patience by offering all PlayStation Plus members that had an active membership or free trial on December 25th a membership extension of five days. The extension will be automatically applied, so no action is necessary to receive the extension. We will post additional information here on PlayStation.Blog when the extension becomes available. If your membership or trial ends before the extension is available, you will receive five days of Plus to enjoy once the extension becomes available (we will notify you when).

In addition, sometime this month we will announce that for a limited time, we will be offering a 10 percent discount code good for a one-time discount off a total cart purchase in the PlayStation Store as a thank you to all PSN members.

This discount can be used toward content available on PS Store including blockbuster new releases, award winning indie games, game add-ons and season passes, and an enormous selection of TV and Movies.

In case you missed it, click here to read about all the great games included in the January 2015 PlayStation Plus Instant Game Collection lineup.

Thanks again to all our loyal PlayStation fans and welcome to our newest console owners. Wishing you all a very happy holiday.

  • Still haven’t received the voucher code… Beginning to think Sony doesn’t honor their word… Not the first time. Last year, several of my friends received random $5 and $10 :”Thanks for being a loyal sony customer” freebies… One of said friends only had a PS3 for two months, his FIRST SONY SYSTEM, and he got the $10 code. I’ve had EVERY sony system since 1995. I’ve been a PS+ member for YEARS… does sony value my loyalty? Nope. All I get? NUFFIN’ but hacks, compromised credit cards, and headaches.

Thanks Sony, from a loyal customer.

  • Thanks Sony that’s a nice gesture to your customers since you don’t owe us anything. Although I’d rather you just let me buy Suikoden 1 and 2 on my PS4! Get on it =)

  • Does the 10% discount have a expiration date? If it does, when is it? I really doubt that it would expire soon and there will probably be another discount period in which to use it. Also, the example with digital vs physical cannot really be applied since that’s the case with many retailers, just not Sony. Digital games are constantly more expensive than physical games. The one constant exception is PC games, but that system works differently.

I’ll agree if Sony makes the discount expire before another promotion in order to “trick” people into buying products at a modest discount. Even then though Sony also included a free 5 day PS+. Honestly, these gifts are small but more than supplements the recent issue. If someone can give me some comparison, like something Microsoft did, then there can actually be argument here besides the whiny banter. I honestly can’t believe people are asking for more. It might just be me, but it seems like many “gamers” are some of the most entitled brats.

  • Wow, got the email today (24th Jan) telling me I have a voucher for 10% discount.

Only valid if used between 23rd Jan and 26th Jan. Brilliant Move….NOT.

What about people who may not check their email regularly or don’t get paid until the end of the month.

    USELESS…….

  • It wouldn’t have bothered me if they didn’t offer any free plus at all, but I find it quite funny that they’re offering the almost exact amount of days the network was down for. Would it have bankrupted them to round it up to a full week? Again, not complaining, just sayin’.

  • I didn’t get my 5 days for ps plus. My PS plus just expired yesterday

  • I bought Dragon Age Deluxe Edition. When I attempt to play the game I receive an CE-34878-0 error code. I have downloaded it multiple times and ran through the hoops with tech support, but nothing has resolved it. They have refused to give me a refund, another game of equal value, or another code to use as this occurred due to a fault in the Playstation Store and nothing due to my own doings. I am extremely disappointed, not so much in the error I would love to have it fixed and play the game, but in the quality of your “technical support.” I was read off a list in very poor English and when the problem was not immediately resolved, the first guy disconnected on me and the second just kept talking in circles to get me to leave. Who would think that it would be possible to come away from this situation with an even worse taste in my mouth…

  • Ikancast,

I had a similar problem with the same code, (at least I think it was). What I found, after reading several blogs, was that it was an installing error. If you go to;-

Settings – storage Management – Applications – then your game, you may see it still needing time to install.

I think it was Dragon Age with me. Something to do with the ‘Play while Installing’ feature not working properly.

Hope that’s all it is and it works for you.

  • Does anyone know when the extra five days will be added or know who to ask? I had an active account during the 25th Dec which ended at the end of the year but haven’t heard anything yet.

    Thanks in advance.

  • + ScaryRhinos : You should have received an email that the 5 days start tomorrow.

    Cheers,

  • Um… If this is automatic, then why am I being told by tech support that I have to ask for this extension to get the 5 free days? My 3 month subscription began Oct 28 and ends today. I was alerted it had expired and now I am having to pay to renew. I shouldn’t have had to repay until Feb 2.
