A Holiday Thank You

Hi Everyone,

Happy New Year! Since access to PlayStation Network was impacted during the holidays, we wanted to show our appreciation for your patience by offering all PlayStation Plus members that had an active membership or free trial on December 25th a membership extension of five days. The extension will be automatically applied, so no action is necessary to receive the extension. We will post additional information here on PlayStation.Blog when the extension becomes available. If your membership or trial ends before the extension is available, you will receive five days of Plus to enjoy once the extension becomes available (we will notify you when).

In addition, sometime this month we will announce that for a limited time, we will be offering a 10 percent discount code good for a one-time discount off a total cart purchase in the PlayStation Store as a thank you to all PSN members.

This discount can be used toward content available on PS Store including blockbuster new releases, award winning indie games, game add-ons and season passes, and an enormous selection of TV and Movies.

    What’s the hold up? Why not just release it immediatly? Its a one time discount, no reason not to just make it avaiable when you announce it.

  • We’re still waiting for the extension – as well as the 10% off on the total cart. I am hoping that my membership would end at the beginning of the month (where I would either have to renew or buy a card just for me to redeem).

  • I have dealt with outages before and I even dealt with my account getting hacked 3-4 years ago and having my personal information stolen because of their negligence. I have been trying to reach out and talk to the corporation but no one seems to want to talk about it.

    Well I don’t get any extra PS+ time because I wasn’t signed up on Christmas Day… Well maybe if your services worked then I would have been… So again thats on you…

    10% off is your way to thank us… Really… Give you more of my money is a great way for you to say sorry… I am insulted and angry that this company even has the gull to say such a thing with a straight face…

    You designed your console the way you did, you packaged the bundles the way you did and you didn’t give adequate security measures to your online system like you should have and where does that leave us the users, the gamers, the people that made your company what it is today…

  • It is kind of strange that you guys would make this announcement without providing the actual codes/discounts. It might make sense if the benefits came in the coming days, but two weeks later there is still no evidence of either of the benefits you mentioned. I do appreciate it, but I waited four or five days, then I finally went ahead and purchased psplus for a year anyway. I didn’t want to wait any longer to play my favorite games – ironically I ended up with even more lost pslus time while I was waiting for this code! Will the extra five days from this announcement extend into 2016 now?

  • I agree! I am still waiting for the 10 percent discount, along with the Plus extension. I think that it should have been ready by now. What’s taking you Sony so long? I was hoping to use my discount on a game.

  • Is this an official blog post by Sony? Everyone with a 14-day free trial on Dec. 25th has had their trial expire. Now people are waiting for Sony to follow through with their promise.

    In essence Sony is dragging out the Ddos attack in peoples minds while we wait for the promised “Holiday Thank You Gift”. Sony had no control over the attack, but this delay is soley on their shoulders.

    I have not found anything other than this blog to verify the veracity of the “Thank You”.

  • So my PS Plus account has finally ended :/ Was hoping to get the extension added on by now as I’ve cancelled my automatic renewal. Would hassle them for this but I’ve had a bad experience dealing with PS support in the UK (basically non existent), why not have a web chat system like they do in America. PS we want our discount and extension added on now!

  • Don’t feel to bad about not having chat in the UK. I’ve tried it a few times. It has always crashed. However, I have received great service via the phone.

  • 2 weeks and nearly 1000 comments asking for their discount later, still no word from Sony on how it’s going just giving out a digital coupon

  • Okay, I’m looking forward to the discount as well (personally) I’d prefer that they improve their security instead of wasting time, giving everyone a compensation. But come on people, can’t you read?

    SOMETIME THIS MONTH, we’re only half way through it so there’s still time. I fully agree with all of you that, based on the amount of comments, it would be preferable if Sony or perhaps mr. Lempel himself would provide everyone with an update. But don’t call them liars just yet as their probably awaiting the best possible time minimising financial damage.

    ….January in the US means an enormous Anniversary Sale and in the EU we have the January Sale (as promised) with very interesting discounts. Meaning everyone has their cart full of goodies and games and is impatiently awaiting the 10% discount…..

    So although not very decent (if it applies…) you can’t really blame them for waiting until these periods are over. So please, show a little patience and restraint, it’s not what we (including myself, my cart is full two!) would like to see and perhaps somewhat misleading. BUT it’s not that they have lied to us. I’m willing to (until the 22nd of Jan – EU) give them the benefit of the doubt… Let’s hope I’m right ;-)….

  • This hardly seems fair to those of us who forked out the dough for a PS4 prior to December 25, but couldn’t log on to the network to sign up for PlayStation Plus. We had to wait until after the first of the year; and believe me, we tried. But because we didn’t sign up before Christmas we don’t benefit from these “gifts”? Not cool, Sony! You really should rethink this.

  • I can’t believe Sony would do this. First, they give everybody 5 days of free PS Plus, then they try to give PS Plus members some fair quality games, then they tell everybody, they’re going to send a 10% discount code sometime this month, instead of just telling us when or just giving it to us and making valid it for the whole month of January for one use, now they have a anniversary sale and they expect us to spend our hard earned money on games in the sale and games, we want to buy with the discount code… Unbelievable… -.-”

    They made the mistake and they’re expecting us to pat them on the back for it and forgive them for it? Ha, ya right…

  • I bought the PS4 and opened it on xmas day. Couldn’t sign up for PSN Plus (so the kids could play Little Big Planet 3 user levels) for days, so I miss that discount. Couldn’t download my free downloadable games (both digital only ones I had purchased ahead of time, and those I had the code for, like Last of Us).

    What’s worse, is it’s weeks later, and still the store is almost dead for me, it loads items excruciatingly slow (like a minute to show a single page). Sony, this is your *store*. You *want* it to work well. Compared to XBLA (where I’m coming from), this is absolutely unacceptable.

  • Now, I’ve been waiting for over a week for this code. I want to use it for 10% off four things: PixelJunk Shooter (currently on sale), OddWorld (missed the first week of the holiday sale by one day while awaiting the PS4 delivery, in fact you can feel free to credit me the difference right now if you want me to be happy), Grim Fandango (pre-order), and 1 year of PSN Plus (I’m still giving you guys the benefit of the doubt, but so far I am extremely unimpressed). But no 10% code to be seen. Add to that the complication that the pre-order and the PSN Plus year thing don’t seem to want to go into a shopping cart, but rather to charge me right away, so I don’t think I have a way to apply the 10% anyways. But where is the 10%?!

    You wanna make me happy? Put those four things on my account, and charge me the holiday price of Oddworld, and then take 10% off everything, and add 5 days to my PSN Plus after its enabled. You have my credit card, just do it. Otherwise, far from impressed, and becoming much more hesitant to spend my money in your ecosystem.

  • I had a PS3 I basically used only for blu-ray and Little Big Planet 1 & 2 for the kids. I had the free PSN membership. I was always unimpressed with it, even for a free service, compared to XBLA Gold for which I’ve paid for years. I went through store pages barely loading, trailers barely loading, and the Months of PSN Down Due to Sony Inability to Keep Hackers From Stealing Our Credit Card Data. Now, I thought upon getting a PS4, surely now that PSN is a paid thing, Sony has got their act together. Seems not!

    And I’m not a Sony or PS4 hater, just an educated consumer who’s fairly well tired of being subjugated to corporations and their mistakes and their “gifts”. You wanna make it right, how about really making it right?

  • Sony doesn’t owe you a damn thing, no amount of security can prevent a DDoS. Sure, I’m looking forward to the 10% discount, but I’m not going to whine and ***** because it hasn’t shown up yet. And God forbid, people weren’t able to play Destiny for FIVE WHOLE DAYS, THE WORLD IS COMING TO AN END!!

  • Yeah there were good sales in physical stores all through the holidays, I didn’t get such good deals on my digital purchases. (Trying to avoid discs this generation.) Sony, step up your deals, after all, we’re saving you manufacturing and shipping!

  • Did you guys just remove pre-orders from the list? Really? I was really happy with this offer, but how are you going to remove something you already said you would give?

  • I had an active account on the 25th whc ended on the 28th, and have yet to receive word when they would give out the free 5 days.
    It has been 20 days since the announcement and no news.

    Can a Sony spokeperson please shed some light on the date when the 5 days will be handed out?

  • Well after now knowing I can’t use my 10% off discount for preordering any game’s it look’s like PlayStation won’t get much if any out of me soon. I was planning on preordering The Order: 1886, Project Car’s, and Uncharted 4. It was to good to be true. ???

  • Total and absolute joke. 10% would have been a nice gesture by Sony, (as it wasn’t strictly their fault for the initial downtime), but waiting until after the sales, (and still waiting), is wring. Its actually taking the michael out of customers.

    Examples,

    10% off GTA 5 for PS4= £55 – £5.50 = £49.50. It’s less than £40 on Amazon without any discount.
    10% off Tomb Raider (PS4) = £35 – £3.50 = £31.50. Its only £18 on Amazon.

    Having the voucher available for use during the sale would have been worth it and I’m sure many of us would have bought more games from Sony as a result, but now….., not worth it at all.

    Some people will probably still use the discount if it ever arrives, and Sony will be making money off of those poor saps.

    I hope Sony read these comments and realise what fools they are making of themselves.
