DmC: Definitive Edition Coming to PS4 on March 17th, 2015

Hello PlayStation community, Dominic Matthews here from Ninja Theory. Today we’re proud to announce that we’re teaming up with Capcom again to bring DmC: Definitive Edition to PS4 on March 17th, 2015.

DmC: Definitive Edition

DmC: Definitive Edition does what it says in its name: it delivers the definitive DmC experience. We’ve revisited DmC: Devil May Cry and improved, optimized, and added to the game. When creating the original DmC, there were improvements that we wanted to make, but never got the chance to. In DmC Definitive Edition, we’ve made those improvements.

We’ve taken on-board player feedback and implemented many of the most requested features. In addition, we’ve given DmC a full, next-gen makeover, with uprezzed graphics and a silky smooth running speed of 60 fps at 1080p. DmC Definitive Edition also comes bundled with all released DLC and a host of new modes.

Here are just some of the awesome new features of DmC: Definitive Edition:

  • 60 fps and 1080p resolution — It looks and feels super smooth to play.
  • Uprezzed Graphics — Including textures, characters, and cinematics.
  • Big Bundle of Content — The game includes DmC: Devil May Cry, plus all released DLC: Vergil’s Downfall campaign, 3 Dante skins, 3 Dante weapon skins, and the item finder.
  • New Skins — 2 new character skins. Devil May Cry 1 Dante and Classic Vergil.
  • Turbo Mode — Turbo Mode returns to the Devil May Cry series, with the game running 20% faster in this mode.
  • Hardcore Mode — Hardcore mode retains the experience of DmC, but with a throwback to the classic Devil May Cry games in terms of balance. In this mode, which can be toggled on all difficulty levels, the style system has been rebalanced to make ranking up much harder and ranks deteriorate much quicker. In addition, Devil Trigger doesn’t launch enemies into the air, parrying takes more skill, and all enemies hand out more damage.
  • Manual Target Lock — We’ve seen more requests for this than any other feature! The manual target lock works as closely to the classic Devil May Cry lock on as possible and has fully configurable controls.
  • Vergil Bloody Palace — Only second to Manual Target Lock in terms of the number of fan requests! This is a new Bloody Palace mode featuring 60 levels and Vergil as the playable character.
  • Must Style Mode — This is a hardcore modifier on an epic scale that can be played over any difficulty level. Players must be at an S rank or higher to deal any damage to enemies.
  • Gods Must Die Difficulty Mode — This is DmC Definitive Edition’s hardest difficulty mode. It takes DmC’s ridiculously hard Dante Must Die mode and adds a touch more punishment: All enemies spawn with Devil Trigger active and no items or health drops can be used.
  • Rebalanced and Retuned — We’ve studied fan feedback and made a whole host of tweaks and balance changes. The style system has been rebalanced, as have bosses. Exploits have been fixed in combat and some of Dante’s moves rebalanced, such as the Demon Evade. Gameplay tweaks have been made following hardcore player testing; frames have been removed from Kablooey shots, Parry/Evade windows adjusted, and collectibles, keys and doors redistributed.
  • Integration of Popular Community Mods — DmC Definitive Edition includes community mods such as an optional timer disable for Bloody Palace Mode, a triple dash for Angel Evade, and the ability to hit red and blue enemies with any weapon.
  • New Cutscene — an added cinematic scene that never made it into the original.

It’s not often that a developer gets the opportunity to revisit their game and improve it. We’ve grasped this chance and taken great care to bring DmC: Devil May Cry onto PS4 in the style that it truly deserves.

Until next time!

  • yes! i really did like this game when i played it on ps3, and i’ve kind of been missing it. i’m excited to be able to play it again, and i’m also interested in seeing what the new frame rate is like because, yeah, it wasn’t good on ps3.

the balancing has me a little worried; i hope none of his moves got super nerfed. either way, excited for it and to finally be able to play vergil’s downfall. i’m sure dragon age can hold me off until march.

  • This game is awesome, for sure I will revisit it in HD. And to all those guys that keep saying that this games sucks, it’s not true, the only thing different in this DMC from the others is Dante and, you know what, I prefer this story too, it makes more sense demon + angel than demon + human. Other thing, i REALLY

  • REALLY doubt that those “gamers” have even tried this game and that if they really played a DMC game before, people just see others complaining about it and start to say the same thing without even knowing what is happening. It has the same elemenets as the od DMCs, same modes, same everything, but because Dante changed his hair WOW, END OF THE WORLD! THIRD WORLD WAR! F you guys, this is a reboot and a very good one. Ninja Theory and Capcom don’t listen to these idiots, they don’t even played the game. And I really hope a sequel, DmC is amazing!

  • I look forward to it on PS4. CAPCOM: Please, please bring Devil May Cry Trilogy to the PS Vita. How awesome would it be on the handheld.

  • Remastered/ Definitive editions really irk me. I’m excited for some new content and improved textures… Rebalanced gameplay modes sound awesome. What kind of pricing are we going to expect? If it’s full price, I’ll be waiting for the bargain bin.

  • DmC (new) Dante is the best Dante. Super psyched for this release.

  • Wow people are still crying over this game? Capcom Fanbase = New Sonic Fanbase.

Also I loathe this series as a whole.

  • Loved – LOVED – DmC. I barely need a reason to play it again, but this is certainly a good one :)

  • I will say this though, Ninja Theory – for all the babies and whiny jerks in general, maybe put the “Classic Dante” skin unlockable from the beginning and use it in all the promotional footage so they STFU and actually experience the amazing title you guys crafted.

    Looking forward to Hellblade too!

  • Take my money !!
    This is gonna be awesome

  • I’m excited to see Devil May Cry get upgraded to the PS4. To be honest, I didn’t expect much from this game when I downloaded it last year when it was free for PS Plus members, but I was blown away at how much I loved the game. It quickly became my favorite in the series, but that’s coming from a casual DMC fan. Can’t wait to play it again.

  • love love loved this game. too bad the crybabies are too caught up complaining about aesthetic changes to realize it’s a damn good game

  • So a year out from the launch of PS4 and it’s a hell of a lot of titles that are available on the PS3 or it’s “remastered” editions of games. Please at some point sell me on ya know, a new game.

  • remastered but @ what price point not liking these big companies constant port overs and remakes the indie companies are killing you guys. id say 14.99-29.99 is fair $65 games aren’t worth $40 plus whatever dlc going to be tossed on it. next gen now capcom stop messing up not going to push a million copies of last gen remakes DMC 5 SF5 CvS3 lets go!

  • LMAO @ all the people thinking that the only criticism is aethetic changes.

Perhaps it is the fact that every game that Ninja Theory have ever made has been a stinky turd? The criticisms are that Ninja Theory are unable to make good games and all their games have poor unpolished combat.

  • Never got all the hate for DMC. I played 1/3 some of 4 and never really liked the style of the game or the mechanics. Played DMC and beat it in less than a week. Loved it. I have literally no complaints on this game. It is fantastic.

General consensus is if you played 1-4 you generally hate this game. If you didn’t (or didn’t like them) then DMC is the bees knees. Bees Knees here.

  • Being a huge DMC fan, the people who consistently bash this game for not being based off of the original…. I seriously wish you guys would play the game…. If you did play the game and are still bashing on it, shame on you.

  • I know I’m in the minority, but I actually enjoyed the bejeezus out of this game. Had it on my 360, have it on Steam and I’m seriously considering picking this up (especially with all that extra content!). Sure, its not DMC3; but nothing else is. I actually like this game better than DMC4 and DMC2 (which has been disowned in its entirety by many fans of the franchise). It really does surprise me that this is getting a re-release, though. I thought this reboot had been hated straight to death.

  • Enjoyed the PC version a lot. The new additions sound really nice, especially the manual lock-on and the inclusion of community mods that made the PC version a lot better. I’ll probably pick it up, though depending on the price perhaps not right away. I mean, Bloodborne is coming out around the same time, which is a far greater priority.

  • Seriously, what’s the deal with repackaging the same game again this gen?

How about.. You know.. Selling a new game? Ultimately this is very depressing.

  • I Hope Capcom can bring DMC back to it’s golden roots.half Demon/human and the orginal dante with Ninja Gaiden Combat style

  • Yay another rehash. Now i can play the same games that i played on PS2 and PS3 with my PS4.

  • nonono, whats next resident evil 6? why no onimusha instead way better way to bring them some revenue. but no. well they do like to trow money away. wait until its free on ps+ again.

  • Definitely getting this. Hopefully this is a sign of a upcoming sequel. I loved the reboot. Played all the previous DMC games. The controls in this one made it easier to to combos. Can’t wait for this!

  • I’m never disappointed by the sense of entitlement in the comments

  • Why not also put DMC 4 on the disc? The same goes with FromSoft doing Dark Souls 2 but not putting Dark Souls on the disc.

    Pass.

  • I was just getting ready to replay this on the PS3. I’ll definitely hold off for the DE version instead. I’ve actually been enjoying all the DE games that have been coming out and hope they keep bringing more.

  • The pile of garbage nobody wanted the first go round is getting a re-release?! It’s this kind of insanity that rekindles my hopes for that fated FFVII remake.

  • geuss this is what TN used to get to know the PS4 hardware…, havent finished the original yet.., lookinf forward to this… , abd u highly recommend new players to playing it straight on hard on the 1st playthru.., normal=easy (which is really too easy..), while hard=nomal

  • its better than MGS Rising and imo comes very close to Bayonetta…, dont believe the haters, who cant coop with the fact, that they didnt use the typical “anime” style of the prequels…, the game still looks gorgeous (and sounds epical).., gameplaywise (on hard) feels like a Nintendo product (“smart & polished”)

  • DmC was awesome. Too many people slept on it mainly because Dante looked different.

  • The game was amazing. I was very surprised when i first played it. I was waiting for a ps4 version knowing how much potential this game had running on Unreal engine

  • I hate people who wont play a game for a characters look. Like wow. In my opinion he actually looks better.

  • Definitive edition in my ass…Bring back the badass, trashtalking dante….

  • ENOUGH!!! I’m getting so sick and tired of these “Remasters” and “Definitive Editions”!!!!!!! PC players sure as hell don’t pay for the same game twice on Steam. Why the hell isn’t there a way to play the “New” version of a game for free? If you own the title on PS3, why can’t i just download the game from PSN FOR FREE and use my disc that i ALREADY PAID FOR AND OWN!!!! (in order to verify that you own the title)

Every time you upgrade your graphics card on a PC, it’s not like the game studios call you up and tell you that to play that game on Ultra settings at 1080p or 4K resolutions you have to give them 60 more dollars. WHAT A JOKE!!!!!!!!!!!

This is unacceptable that these publishers and game studios put out these “Definitive” games and if we want to play we have to fork over another $60. Vote with your wallet, keep your money or else these money grabbing bastards will continue to put out “NEW” games even though you already own them and have played them.

  • if its more than about $15, thats a no buy from me. Prettier graphics are not worth significantly more than what the last gen price is currently

  • I’m not remotely interested in this. We have a massive flood of all these no-mark games getting undeserved remasters in order to cash in on the trend, while classics like RDR, Skyrim and the Uncharted Trilogy are nowhere to be seen. Give me genuine classics remastered or new games.

  • Wow this game has gotten some people riled up. It’s just a game, calm down and you don’t have to support it if you don’t want to. I personally liked it, main character was a waste of space but game play and story were top notch, with some amazing visuals. All that said I won’t pick this up cause I have the PS3 version and it suits my needs fine. But this was the game that ruined me for bad fighters. I played Alice right after and couldn’t stand the combat.

  • @115: So you’re crazy; that’s good to know :P

Ninja Theory has never shipped a bad game. In fact Enslaved was one of the best games of the last generation. DmC was awesome too.

If you hate great games than what are you doing here? Stick to, I dunno… HyperDimension Neptunia or something.

  • I’m curious to see what they’re going to do with Devil May Cry 4. When I played it on the Xbox 360, it ran at 60fps, with minor screen tearing in a few spots, so I’m not sure what more they could do to it except upping the resolution to 1080p. Unless they plan on changing some of the core gameplay elements… I’ll just have to wait and see. I’ve beaten both on their highest difficulty levels, so I have no reason to spend money on them again. It will be nice for newcomers though.

  • Turd Burger: The Definitive Edition. Who’s buying?

  • I can’t come back to DMC.. Metal gear Rising spoiled me

  • Oh, good. Another remake… -.-

  • This game is in the top 5 of my favorite games of 2013

  • Stop whining!! If you don’t want to buy it then DON’T!!! I happen to enjoy the game and will definitely buy it. Every time a game is remastered for the new Gen you hear the same freaking whining. No one is twisting your arm to buy it!

  • I’m actually excited for this re-release. I enjoyed the PS3 release of DmC: Devil May Cry a lot, almost more than the numbered series, if I’m gonna be honest. This DmC always seemed more dark and gritty when held up against the numbered series, which was, and still is, something that has me wanting them to make a sequel. Getting to return to that dark and gritty world in 1080p, and with everything I missed out on from the first release, to boot, is super exciting. It actually kind of makes me want to see what would happen if Ninja Theory did a remake of Bayonetta.

  • Dmc 3 will ever go down as the best of the series. I do like the combat system in DmC is feel very smooth, the animations are all flawless and precise. I however think we all can agree we have not saw a significant upgrade to the combat system since DmC3. I mean other than graphically an the implementation of the grapple/pull system the was introduced in Dmc4 there hasnt been any significant addition to gameplay. I would like to see more environmental interactions and destruction. I think the Wall run from Dmc2 be brought back in addition to the body surf from DmC3. In DmC3 I think Dante is at his peek and the next DmC we should see him coming into his more flashy stylish persona we come to love. Once again DmC is a very solid game I think if they take some cues for DmC2& DmC3 and implement the environment we could see the true next gen Dante we want to see. I would also like to see a enemy engage system like Batman:Arkham. Imagine Dante engaging multiple enemies simultaneously.

  • I don’t understand why people say this isn’t the “real” Dante. I loved this game to death and I’ve played the others and this has to be my favorite Hes still a smartass he’s witty he likes fighting and by the end he protects not only the ones he cares for. The (spoiler alert ) fight with vergil was great. And those crying about the fact he doesn’t have white hair for 1 this is a prequel before he discovered his powers and heritage and 2 he gets it in the end and now ninja theory is even giving you a Dante costume. And those saying it’s easy isn’t that what hardcore mode is for? This isn’t dark souls this game isn’t suppose to destroy you. Tho all this is my opinion I just don’t think this Dante was given a fair chance is all.

  • Oh! And Taunting! Please bring back taunting!

  • Big fan of the Devil May Cry Series, have been playing for 11 years now, played an beaten em all multiple times. and i gotta say i cannot wait for this to come out! Each new updates gets me more and more amped!!!!
