Hello PlayStation.Blog readers! Today is a very special moment in our history. It’s been 20 years since the launch of the original PlayStation, which released in Japan on December 3rd, 1994. It seems like only yesterday! I’m so glad that we can celebrate this moment together.
20 years is a long time! In 1994, many outsiders thought that Sony was slightly crazy to launch the original PlayStation into an incredibly competitive gaming market. Who could blame them? Sony was (and is!) famous for engineering great electronics, audio equipment, and many other consumer devices. But game consoles?!
Sony Computer Entertainment, founded by my mentor Ken Kutaragi, was a project borne out of sincere passion and deep admiration for the craft of game development. The mid 90s were an exciting time for game developers, driven by the explosion of powerful but affordable 3D graphics rendering hardware and the birth of many young and adventurous development studios. The original PlayStation was meant to embody that sense of adventure and discovery, that sense that anything was possible.
We sincerely thank you for joining us on our exciting 20-year journey. You have made every bump and scrape we took along the way worthwhile. And there’s so much more to come! :D
But I don’t want to go on for too long, because we have a big piece of news to reveal: a very special 20th Anniversary Edition PS4!

Hey guys. I experienced the issues you guys had. I had the item in my cart, chose PayPal, and it loaded and I kept getting error messages. So I called PayPal directly and they saw that I was trying to make a purchase from Sony (since you originally had to log in to PayPal). They were able to override the transaction and force it through. So I immediately received an email receipt from Sony and PayPal confirming my purchase. But if they were sold out by the time the transaction went through, I should be expecting an email from Sony saying they are going to cancel the transaction and not bill me. Hope this helps.
So how many people here actually managed to successfully pre-order one? So far it looks like one person managed to do so. Anyone else?
My guess is, once they thought about it they probably realized that divulging that information in the middle of the keynote would be quite counter productive to their show. 2nd, apparently the gold bracelet people had no idea what their gold bracelets meant which would also cause confusion.
By making only 12300 units, Sony exposes its true fans to this massive ripoff ever happened in the gaming industry. If you truly love one, you will pay more than $2000 to the flippers on eBay.

I don’t know what you’re all complaining about. This is the most fun I’ve had all year. I love spamming f5. It’s like grinding in a video game. You level up when you finally are able to order the console.

Don’t give up! I took me about 45 minutes of frustration and website refresh until finally received confirmation emails from Sony and PayPal.
I hope they at least do the shipping correctly.
It would be nice if Sony would tweet if they’re sold out. I’m just hoping they aren’t and it’s just site issues and no one got one.

Are people getting it after refreshing through the process or after payment? Get get to the payment part.
Like others, my purchase _finally_ went through. I got the email and saved the order confirmation page. Now I can wonder just how quickly Sony will tell me “You’re not getting one!!”
Now I can finally go and do something else more productive. ^^;

Hey Everyone, i have an idea that may help a little……if you want even a chance that your order went through, check your CC online…………………………after all, they wont try to charge it if it doesn’t go through, right? …………………………..right?
