Hello PlayStation.Blog readers! Today is a very special moment in our history. It’s been 20 years since the launch of the original PlayStation, which released in Japan on December 3rd, 1994. It seems like only yesterday! I’m so glad that we can celebrate this moment together.
20 years is a long time! In 1994, many outsiders thought that Sony was slightly crazy to launch the original PlayStation into an incredibly competitive gaming market. Who could blame them? Sony was (and is!) famous for engineering great electronics, audio equipment, and many other consumer devices. But game consoles?!
Sony Computer Entertainment, founded by my mentor Ken Kutaragi, was a project borne out of sincere passion and deep admiration for the craft of game development. The mid 90s were an exciting time for game developers, driven by the explosion of powerful but affordable 3D graphics rendering hardware and the birth of many young and adventurous development studios. The original PlayStation was meant to embody that sense of adventure and discovery, that sense that anything was possible.
We sincerely thank you for joining us on our exciting 20-year journey. You have made every bump and scrape we took along the way worthwhile. And there’s so much more to come! :D
But I don’t want to go on for too long, because we have a big piece of news to reveal: a very special 20th Anniversary Edition PS4!

Thank you for 20 wonderful years of adventures beyond our imagination. I can remember the first time I played Crash Bandicoot and how scared I was playing Resident Evil…great times!

We can’t all have the 20th Anniversary console. I am happy with my standard Piano Black and Destiny white bundle :-) It’s too bad scalpers grab them and profit. I’d like to at least see the DS4 control offered to everyone. Oh, and of course I’d jump at the opportunity to own the Anni Ps4!

It’s kind of messed up that they released unboxing videos, articles, and advertisements featuring and promoting the console. I understand that it is very limited, but it was wrong to mislead us and give us all false hope. Im sure they will give us a link to preorder whats left, but how many will there be? 50-500? At this point unless youre willing to pay 2000 on ebay, forget about owning this.
They surely have a finite amount of “golden bracelets” at the live event and likely an allocated amount for online orders. Just wait and see now.

It’s pretty much what I figured… with Sony handing out bracelets the chances of it being available to anyone outside the show is slim at best, especially when you consider how many attendees are at PSX and how incredibly limited the supply is for the 20th anniversary PS4.
But hey, let’s be honest, with barely over 12k to sell worldwide, it would’ve been sold out online before you could’ve even put it in your cart… So don’t worry if you can’t get one, it was highly unlikely you would anyhow.
I remember them saying to watch the Keynote for details. Hanging around on Twitter for updates was not mentioned.
Does seem a little unfair how we were all mislead :(

Looks like the released zero info on price and release date for ps4 20th anniversary edition.
I am going to guess $499.99 and it to go on sale before christmas

I been waiting for hours and not a single clue on how to get the ps4 20th edition.. this sucks. And also that street fighter is the same as the other street fighter 4 from before.. no difference. .
man, I couldn’t even make it home, so I had to steam through the whole live cast, used up 50% of my monthly cellphone data allowance for nothing… come on Sony, u mentioned right at article “Please watch the PlayStation Experience keynote starting Saturday morning at 10:00am Pacific Time to learn more” so where was it??????????????

I just went and dug out my SCPH-1000 PlayStation (with S-Video output!), so that I can fondle^H^H^H^H^H^Hadmire it and remember those happy times long, long ago, while I wait in vain for Sony to get their act together with this PS4 sale…
All the sellers on ebay dont have one. One of them even states ‘I will try and get one’. The one for $7,000 is shiill bidded to give us the false value so idiots will pay silly prices. I have now wasted 3.5 hours watching a load of nonsense for no reason. How disrespectful and clearly a marketing ploy from the start.
An item’s worth is what people are willing to pay for. If someone with an unlimited fund wants to buy something special for themselves or for someone else, I don’t think they care how much this limited edition PS4 is worth to get it.
