Freedom Wars Out Tuesday, Characters & Panopticons Detailed

Hello again Freedom Wars fans! With less than a week to go until Freedom Wars finally hits North America, I wanted to deliver a few more details regarding our awesome cast of characters and Western Panopticons to our English-speaking “Sinners” out there.

As you’ve seen through our various trailers, even throughout the multitude of cooperative and competitive modes, the story of Freedom Wars takes center stage. While contributing to society and steadily decreasing that million-year sentence, you’ll encounter a myriad of interesting, (and might I add stylish) characters, starting with:

Freedom Wars, Aries
Aries
A mysterious girl who appears in front of our main character from time to time. Her prophetic-sounding words seem to be leading you down a certain path, but her true motives remain a mystery…
Freedom Wars, Natalia
Natalia “9” Woo
The tough-as-nails Commander of The Office of Peace and Stability, 35th division. Natalia is tasked with protecting the peace in her Panopticon and keeping the Sinners in line. She might seem cold at first glance, but Natalia’s rigid demeanor masks her deep-seated wish to protect her teammates.
Freedom Wars, Uwe
Uwe “Sakamoto” Cabrera
A veteran prisoner and brave warrior who’s earned the respect of society through his efforts on the battlefield. He’s taught countless prisoners that the only freedom they have left is “to choose how you fight and live with that decision.”
Freedom Wars, Matias
Mattias “Leo” Bruno
An inexperienced prisoner, Mattias considers himself to be your rival. Although he can be a bit competitive, he’s known to have an honest personality and won’t shy away from lending a hand.
Freedom Wars, Abel
Abel “Strafe” Balt
One of the strongest prisoners in the world, Abel is in control of one of the “Three Prototype” Abductors – “Red Rage.” He is by all means considered to be extremely dangerous.
Freedom Wars, Beatrice
Beatrice “Lilium” Anastasi
The heroine of our story, held deep within the main character’s Panopticon, under constant surveillance. Her positive attitude and warm personality make her an instant friend and ally, ready to fight by your side as she bravely confronts her destiny.
Freedom Wars, Percy Propa

And last but not least, your official Panopticon mascot: Percy Propa! Percy is the voice of the Panopticon – his job is to relay messages and issue orders to you, although in a very kind, gentle way. You’ll often see him appearing on the various screens throughout your home Panopticon, shouting his favorite phrase: “For the Greater Good!”

Suffice to say, the characters you’ll encounter in Freedom Wars will help make your experience a very memorable one – they’ll join you both on and off the battlefield throughout the story as you uncover the truth about the world and discover what “freedom” truly is.

I also wanted to take a moment and respond to one of the most frequent questions I’ve received from fans across the world: Which Panopticons are included in the Western release of the game? I’m happy to announce that the Panopticons populating the Western release represent a very international audience – we have over 50 locations from around the world that you’re free to swear allegiance to at the start of the game:

  • This is TORTURE! FAST FORWARD TO 28!!! Raawwwwwwwwwwwwwwrrrr!!!!

D.E.M.O Plllleeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaseeeeeeeeeeeee!!! *Flips the office table

    • Be careful there, sinner! Your Panopticon doesn’t take lightly to insubordination!

(Can’t wait for you to play it – thank you very much for your support!)

      For the Greater Good!

  • Nick, you still around?

Cant believe no one asked about post-game content/support. Is there any dlc planned for the game? New missions/modes/story missions, etc??

    Thanks in advance

    • Hey diodio26!

Sorry, I took a little break!

I can’t believe it! (Although there’s so much to the base game, it doesn’t surprise me that much!)

We have a LOT of DLC coming out across the next few weeks, (lots of costumes, weapon packs, items, civilian helpers – even battle music!) so please look forward to it!

Also keep in mind that there’s going to be very “Special Operations” that take place from time to time – make sure not to miss these, as they’re a once and done deal!

  • @148:

The way I had read your comment was that it was more of a swipe against anyone not from the United States posting here on this blog, regardless of what they were posting about. If that wasn’t your intent, I apologize.

But I agree that some of the responses seem a little… over-egged. (I didn’t expect everyone to be happy with the Panopticon selections, or with the lack of an English dub. But there is a line between constructive criticism and getting a little carried away with things.)

  • I’m super excited for Freedom Wars, but I have a question that I’m having a hard time getting a definitive answer for: well this game have online co-op? I was just reading the description for the game on Amazon, and according to them, the 4 player co-op will be ad-hoc only, while the 4 v 4 Competitive multiplayer will be online. Does anyone know if this is true? One of the big reasons I was excited for this game was the online 4 player co-op, but I feel as though I may have been mislead.

    • You’d better believe Freedom Wars has online co-op!

Co-op is up to 4 players, Ad-hoc and Online.

Competitive (PVP) is up to 8 players, Online only. (This will be added with our Day 1 patch, so don’t forget to download it!)

      For the Greater Good!

  • Cant wait! got my copy preordered xD Go Philippines! xD

  • Part 1 of 2

@Souledge94: I don’t think you’re wrong, for not wanting to buy a game, without an English dub. For the same reason, I gave up aspirations of buying Tales of Hearts R(at least, at the $39.99, price point). Ever since playing Symphonia, on the GC, many years ago, I’ve bought, played, and enjoyed almost every other one, that was localized. But no dub, and Xillia being somewhat of a disappointment, to me, have me wanting to wait for a price drop. Doubtful, a dub will get patched in.. Has this ever even been done, before?

But, anyways, you keep bringing up God Eater. Yes, it had a dub. But it was also a PSP game. The Vita has sold far worse, than the PSP had, at this stage of their respective lives: Fact. Vita game sales have not been that good, because of this: Fact. So, you really can’t blame these companies, for not wanting to do dubs. It’s unfortunate, but the sad truth.

  • God Eater 2 hasn’t had any localization announcement, to my knowledge(correct me, if I’m wrong). This very well could be, because whoever has the rights, doesn’t know if it would be a smart investment, to dub it. And localizing it, without a dub, could cause fan outrage, for people who enjoyed the first and wanted to play it, with a dub. If it does ever get localized, it may not have a dub, either. If. And a dub could be keeping it, from being localized.

Again, I don’t think you’re in the wrong, for not buying it, because it doesn’t have a dub. I’m doing the same thing, basically, with Tales of Hearts R, despite being a fan of the series(although, I might still get it, in a sale). Giving companies this feedback, that you and I won’t buy games, without a dub, may encourage them to dub it, if there’s any possible way to, also. They won’t NOT release it, because a few people voice their displeasure, on an internet forum, if it sells to or above their expectations, after all. So, I really see no harm, in posts like yours. I just wanted to point out, why comparing it to God Eater, may not be the best option..

  • And honestly, if Tales or this game, have the option to turn off voices, I’d just play it, like an old school PS1 game. But I have no knowledge, if they do. (Actually, ended up being 3 parts. ^^’)

  • I respect that a dub can break your deal. What I WILL say is I personally don’t care about what the dub is being that I played games like Chrono Trigger and FF series, where you read the entire game. I think of the original dub as emotions added to the way I shape the characters voices in my head, It’s cool to me. Don’t let something like a language dissuade you from the effort and time invested in making this game ultra amazing.

Also I’d like to say (Looking at the PVP) in the franchise that I know this game will have, I hope we get to professional stages in PVP with this. It’s so tactical.

Nick, you’re doin a great job dude, I’ve followed all of these posts for months, all the while lurking and soaking in every response, I’ve convinced 14 of my friends and co-workers to get this game on launch…or should I say I showed them a gameplay trailer and they decided to purchase.

Personally, I’m convinced that you’re one of the greatest PR folk of all time, because you’re one of us. Keep up the good work!

I DO have one gripe though, its a minor one though….with all the PR you’ve been doing, you could have been fast forwarding time to October 28th…you know?…For the Greater Good?!!?

    • Man, what a response!

Thanks, Repryx – you’re the kind of fan that makes this all worthwhile!

And while i’m not PR (I’m a producer, so PD, or Product Development), I do sincerely appreciate your kind words!

I honestly love this game – I can’t tell you how proud I am of how it turned out – so thank you so very much for telling people about it and helping to keep the hype levels high!

Lastly, I might not be able to fast-forward time, but I can offer you two things:

1.) A smattering of free DLC across the next several weeks
2.) The inclusion of Freedom Wars in the “Get $15 for Spending $100” campaign. (You must buy it on launch day!)

Enjoy the game, and of course,

      For the Greater Good!

  • this is my game of the year, hopefully it turns out to be the reason to push people into buying more ps vita consoles. please sony don’t screw this up by not advertising the thing, it’s gonna be release in 6 days :( ….. please make more people awared of freedom wars. I’m gonna be doing my part and purchase my copy as well and letting people know about it. here’s to a good start to more ps vita successful titles with more first party support

    • Thanks for the kind words, Folklore_Legendz!

I hope you love the game as much as I do!

      For the Greater Good!

  • @157 DamagingRob
Every recent game I’ve played have had the option to change volume for BGM, SFX, and Voice. Just turn down the voice to zero.

  • Im excittted and even tho im in north carolina my main home is NEW YORKK so ima representtttt!!!! I sent for preorder so just waiting i herd about this game from a friend and he has the japanese version and he told me he didnt like the restrictions im not sure what that really means im just hoping that it is worth the wait. I dont like to jump to conclusions i like to try things before i say noooo what a waste lol so hopefully i wont be disapointed.

  • @157

The only reason I have a tiny bit of hope for god eater 2 coming over is cause we didint get god eater 1 untill burst come out in japan. So with the announcement of God eater 2 burst I have some hope just not alot lol. Though im afraid that theres a slight chance of getting screwed out of a dub job only cause some companies seem to be doing that here and there. I was only really comparing god eater and this cause of the people working on it. Though I understand what your saying about comparing the state of the psp vs vita since it seems psp had a more stable life time compared to vitas situation now. I just hope we get at least one of version of god eater burst 2 to come over with a dub of course.

  • First off thank you @Nick Accordino and your team for bringing the game in its original voices :)

And for the clueless person that said English Voices are much cheaper(lol) you do realize the JPN voice was done a long time ago?

So basically which is cheaper? Something that was done a long time ago or something that will be created from scratch? It doesn’t take a genius person to figure that out.

Not to mention if you made a dub, this will just delay the game further, possibly next year which will be butchered by a lot of juggernauts.

It’s kinda funny people complaining about lack of English Dub and no one bats an eye. But as soon as someone complains about lack of JPN voices, you get called out by remarks like weaboo and other garbage.

Now you know what it likes to be treated the same way Atlus US has been treating their fans in the past few years.

I might get this, but i have too many games on my backlog right now.

    • You’re very welcome, PrinceofXIII – hope you enjoy them!

Let me know what you think of the game, and thanks for your support!

      For the Greater Good!

  • Nice, Jakarta, Indonesia is on the list

Definitely my day one game list, this is my third Vita game for October.

  • @164
I wouldint mind a delay if it meant I got a english dub. They could release it in the summer when the gaming drought usally happens. Since im pretty sure there are still big games coming out around now. It seems odd that your happy that its coming over with the orginal voices yet it doesint look like you will be buying it day 1 going by your comment.

  • @166
You wouldn’t mind a delay but judging by most of the comments here I am pretty sure a LOT of people would.

  • If someone drops a news on Gravity Rush 2 this month, my heart will explode

  • Oh my… I can’t believe Indonesia (my country) are even in it…

  • @Clyuno: Ah. Thanks, for the tip.

@PrinceofXIII: I prefer hearing things, in my native tongue. But if you like the Japanese more, that’s cool. Obviously, the best option, for all parties, would be to include both. If Funimation can do it, on all of their DVDs, why can’t games? Even if you couldn’t fit both on the cartridge/disc, just make it a PSN download. Preferably, a free download..

As someone who’s been playing games, since the NES, I can’t recall a single game I own/have owned, before the PS3/Vita, not having a dub. So, it’s a bit of a culture shock, that they’re suddenly not always providing it, to me.

  • Cosplayers wet dream. Nice work, guys!

  • Sad there is no, “nation’s capital”, DC. I guess it is simply East, West, Mid, Midwest.

    • Thanks KidGreengene – I appreciate the support!

I actually lived in DC for a while, but I’d rather side with my home, LA.

      Hope you enjoy the game!

      For the Greater Good!

  • If I purchase this on the 28th does it go towards the spend $100 and get $15 back promotion on the PlayStation Store?

  • Been waiting for 3 months, had a copy reserved and saving my money and it’s finally less then a week away. Kind of disappointed my Panopticon isn’t on the list but the next big one is so yay!
Your summary of Natalia kind of makes her seem less cold. Which is good. Tough as nails, cold but with good intentions

    • She’s a great character – I love the localization work we did on her too!

Hope you enjoy the game, and thanks for the kind words!

      For the Greater Good!

  • If anyone need support member for early game let me know, add me up to your friends and Ill be more than happy to support on Code 5+ missions.

    #Code7life

  • Wait…you guys really didn’t think San Francisco deserved its own spot? Really???? Thats wack.

    • I’m sure you can find a great Panopticon to fight for!

Get out there and earn your freedom!

      For the Greater Good!

  • Do we HAVE to pick a Panopticon? None of these cities are worth having my support at this point.

  • Dam i wish i could get the game, but i have to study for SAT in November ! so more waiting for me i guess.

    • Hey Blackstar!

Thanks for your support! Freedom Wars will be waiting for you whenever you finish the SATs – good luck on the test!

      For the Greater Good!

  • does the choice of Panopticon you make effect the servers you use in co-op or pvp, will it effect me negativaly to choose Amsterdam over a Canadian city seeing that i live in Vancouver Canada?

    • Your Panopticon has nothing to do with the servers that the game is hosted on – no negative effects here!

      Hope you enjoy the game!

      For the Greater Good!

  • I cannot wait for Freedom Wars! Keep up the Vita love!

Also, Nick, I just wanted to say that I loved seeing your Freedom Wars bit on Podcast Beyond this week. Hearing your story about how you went from working as the Dirt/Gravel guy to landing a top job in the video game industry really inspired me. I am a 27 year old male who has worked in game retail for over half a decade, and I would love to move up to something a bit more glorious in the industry. I am currently trying to learn Japanese again (used to speak very basic Japanese in High School) in hopes that I can perhaps find a good job a bit easier once I am able speak both languages fluently. Would you say that would be a good way to give myself a leg up? Would love any input you can give! Anyways, I digress…I really just wanted to say thanks for giving us a great show on Beyond. Greg, and Colin especially, have been talking up Freedom Wars for what seems like ages. Can’t wait to experience it myself!

    • My pleasure, KeefRiffards! Vita fans like you make this all worthwhile!

And thank you very much for your kind words about the Podcast – I loved being there.

I think foreign language fluency is a great asset in the job market – it’s definitely the most useful skill I took away from my college experience! Plus, there’s nothing more gratifying than being able to understand something you love in its native language – it’ll enhance your understanding to a wonderful degree.

I really appreciate the support, and I hope you love the game!

      For the Greater Good!

  • Will me and my friend have to be in the same Panopticon? I am so excited for this game!

    • Nope! Your achievements in battle will benefit your Home Panopticon, but you’re allowed to play with whoever you like!

I hope you enjoy the game!

      For the Greater Good!

  • I am SO excited to get this. The faster the 28th comes the better. lol

  • @159
I respect the actual developers of the games since the game does look dang good. My beef is with the localization team who didint want to be bothered to dub the game and fail to give the real reason why such action was taken. I dont want to her “cause its more naturle” or whatever BS PR reason. I want the legit reason. Maybe the representative could take a page from xseed and actually be honest.

  • Whoo! So excited for this. I know we’re getting the formal wear dlc, but is there any word on the other dlc costumes that came with things such as the ost or guide book?

    • Hi TonyCastella,

      Thanks for your support!

We’ll be releasing a huge amount of DLC over the upcoming weeks, so stay tuned to the blog and check back on the PSN store!

      For the Greater Good!

  • Finally the question has been answered! (october promotion) now you have my money.

  • Will it be compatible with the PS TV :o?

  • Thanks for answering so many questions Nick, I am really looking forward for the release of freedom wars! Only a few more days :) so excited!!

    • You’re very welcome, LegendReborn3!

I look forward to you getting your hands on it and reducing that million-year sentence!

Thanks for all of your support!

      For the Greater Good!

  • Wasnt planning on getting this anytime soon. I got ragnarok odyssey and soul sacrifice week 1 only to find out they’re both getting an extended version a few months later…ace and delta, m lookingat you…it left a bitter taste in my mouth..

But…manila, philippines?! Hellz yeah im getying this ASAP! Nothin better than getting to choose the city and country of my origin. AWESOME!

  • So, just english text huh and no english dub? Not a problem! Just the fact that u guys took the time to make this playable for none Japanese speakers is worthy of many thanks! So, many thanks!

    • Thank you very much, bummer-914!

Support the Manila Panopticon with all of your might! I know you’ll do them proud!

I hope you love the game, and thanks for your support!

      For the Greater Good!

  • Natch, so many Panopticon options. I’ll probably rep Amsterdam to make sure they get some love.

Or, since I’m going to be in Tokyo the week this is released (thankfully the PS store has a browser version so I can purchase it!!!) I might be more enthused about joining them.

Decisions! Thanks for answering all the questions.

  • How do we pre order digitally via PSN? Is it available for pre-order on the psn store yet?

Basically throwing my wallet at my monitor now!

    • Hi Vzythe,

There’s unfortunately no way to pre-order the game digitally from the PSN store – you’ll have to pick it up as soon as the store updates on the 28th.

But no worries – you’ll still get the pre-order DLC, and if you grab it before midnight on the 28th, your purchase will count towards the “Get $15 for Spending $100” campaign!

I hope you love the game, and thanks for your support!

      For the Greater Good!

  • YEA! Toronto! :D

  • Hi Im from Cape Town South Africa, I have contacted my local gaming store several times to confirm whether we will be getting, this for pre-order.

I have NOT managed to get this though.
I really want the day 1 release of this title pitty our local game store sucks.

  • why not central american countries latinos love the vita too, i know you think that we dont have money but we work hard to buy games like this.

  • Have a few questions if you are still checking this Nick.

When I was picking up my pre-orders for Bayonetta 2 and Civilization Beyond Earth yesterday in Canada they threw me off saying they also had another pre-order of mine ready for pick-up which was this. My initial reaction was that the street date was lifted but obviously that doesn’t appear to be the case and they made a mistake. Hopefully I can’t get in trouble for playing it early and asking these questions.

    1. The only thing in the case is the game. At first I thought the need for the online pass was removed but upon playing the game a bit it is clear the game does need the online pass. Is this possibly a production error with Canadian copies or is the plan to just make the online pass a free download on the store without needing a code?

    2. The game states that it is patch version 1.00. I thought it was supposed to be 1.10 out of the box? Or is this just because North American 1.00 is equal to the Japanese 1.10?

  • I have to say, Freedom Wars is probably my most anticipated game of the year for me. I’ve been awaiting the Western release of the game ever since I saw the release of the first trailer. I’ve had the game pre-ordered for a while, and even though the release is only a few days away, it feels like an eternity. The only thing that is kind of upsetting is that I wanted to represent my city, however Madison is not one of the Panopticons to choose from. Still, it is a small price to pay for the best game this year. I hope to meet all of you on the battlefield in our fight for freedom. I hope we can all coordinate sometime or some sort of event where we can play together. See you day one!

    “Fight together!”
    “Live together!”
    “Die together!”

  • Dear Sony, please let us preorder Vita Digital titles and download them at midnight on the day they’re released. Waiting for Tuesday’s store update is really going to suck. At least Nintendo does allow us to download newly released titles on our 3DS at midnight on the day they’re released and you’ve been doing Internet services longer and better than them.

  • @Nick Accordino we were able to do this for this year’s Play offerings (Hohokum, The Swapper, etc.), why can’t we do this for other titles?

  • Preordered, but i gotta work on release day T-T
oh well, at least i have those bonus weapons lol
