You may already know that PS4’s upcoming system software 2.00, codenamed Masamune, adds some big features including Share Play, YouTube support, and Themes – but the updates don’t end there. I have personally stated in past blog posts that we listen to our fans. PlayStation has heard gamers when they say they want more ways to find friends to play with, and more ways to personalize their PS4. With this update, we’ve added a Players You May Know tile, the ability to listen to your music while gaming, the option to change the look of your PS4 experience, and easier ways to sort and filter your library of content on PS4.
PS4 has been on sale for almost a year and we’re committed to improving the player experience in entirely new ways. As always, we welcome feedback as part of our ongoing effort to make PS4 the best place to play.
- USB Music Player: PS4 owners can play their own music in the background while playing a game using USB Music Player*. After inserting a USB stick loaded with music into the PS4, a new option for USB Music Player will appear. Supported filename extensions include MP3, MP4, M4A, and 3GP.
- Change colors: In addition to the ability to add a theme, PS4 owners can also change the background of the home screen from light blue to one of seven new colors: gold, blue, red, green, purple, pink, and gray.
- Players You May Know: PS4 will now suggest players you may know as potential friends in the ‘What’s New’ section.
- Enhancements to Live Broadcasting: Masamune brings a variety of improvements to live broadcasting on PS4. In the Live From PlayStation app, PS4 owners can now select a Featured channel, which includes official broadcasts from PlayStation, broadcasts from people on a players friend list, and any game channel that the player has followed. Additionally, Live From PlayStation now has filters for searching broadcasts on a specific game, as well as support for archived broadcasts.
- Content Area and Library: PS4’s Content Area, which shows the latest games and apps a PS4 owner has used, has been redesigned to help make it easier to quickly find and access content. It now shows 15 of a player’s most used apps or games, and additional items will be added to a player’s Library. The Library on PS4 has improved filter and sort functions to help organize contented by type (game / app / TV & video), name (a – z or z – a), recently used, or install date.
- Enhanced Voice Commands: The ability to control PS4 using voice has been improved. Players can now say ‘PlayStation’ to begin commands, and ‘All Commands,’ to see a list of all voice command options available. New voice commands were added for live broadcasting, including “Start broadcast,” “End broadcast,” and “Find face.”
- Add To Library: The monthly free PlayStation Plus games will have an ‘Add to Library’ button in the PlayStation Store. This button will add a game to a PS4 owner’s library without downloading it – saving space on their hard drive.
Correction: Back Up Data, a feature listed in an earlier version of this post, is not part of PS4 system software 2.00.
PS Vita and PS TV – 3.35 update, Live From PlayStation
The PS Vita and PS TV systems will also receive a system software update to version 3.35 with the same timing as Masamune, adding four-player Remote Play support to PS TV. In addition, the Live from PlayStation app, which allows users to watch live gameplay streams from PS4 systems, will be available on both PS Vita and PS TV alongside this update.
PlayStation App 2.0 update
The PlayStation App for smartphones and tablets, available free on the App Store and Google Play, is also set to receive an update to version 2.0 within the same launch window as both the PS4 and PS Vita system software updates. This update provides a new layout for tablets, and the app’s home screen has been redesigned.

* User can play music files stored inside USB storage but cannot copy music files to PS4 HDD. This application cannot be used at the same time with Music Unlimited. USB Music Player will appear once USB storage is inserted, and will disappear once USB storage is removed.
I am very happy to see all the changes coming in the 2.0 update! I do have a question however about the themes. Will I be able to install custom made themes?

No exact dates are known for Masamune’s life and he has reached an almost legendary status.

This is all great to see coming. But what about fixing some of the problems that exists at the moment. I still have to change my input when I want to play a dvd. This is only a issues with many new 120hrz Tvs and the 4k.

The update sounds great, but would love the the ability to sort things out a bit better ala folders or some other way. I’m missing the XMB OS now. In many ways the PS4 is obviously better than the PS3 but at the same time in many ways it’s also behind.
The update sounds amazing. But come on sony, when are you going to be able to download previous games bought from the PS3 library? i know most of us have spent lots of money on games downloaded to out accounts but once upgraded to the 4 we can’t get those games. I know there is playstation now but you have to spend MORE money on those games and half of them I don’t even want to play.

Call me a relic from the 80′s but I need to be able to rip the CDs I buy so I can listen to them from the hdd. I pretty much expect PS4 to be doing everything it’s predecessor does (minus ps3 BD Game support of course). One wonders if this play mp3s etc from a usb stick only malarchie has something to do with Music Unlimited and it’s interests getting in the way. im looking forward to being able to listen to my own music. can you consider an update on the store front at some point to either create a wishlist or save for later type of thing. there are plenty of times i see a game i want to buy but just not at that moment and would like to save it for another time instead of having to search for it again.

I would like to know if it was possible to get the PS TV to stream PS4 games in full native resolution 1080p with an update.
I know that the PS TV can stream Netflix in 1080p, and since it’s the PS4 that is doing all the work, maybe it could be displayed in 1080p if possible. A lot of people would appreciate.
Just a suggestion:I think alongside the release of the new “USB Music” you should add a feature to listen to your music while viewing an awesome ever changing live dynamic background similar to the 360’s ability to do so but I can assure you that with the power and ability of the PS4 that you awesome Sony workers could make it much – Much – better than just that, I mean let the live dynamic background be in tuned with the music to where the song reaches a guitar solo the live dynamic background goes absolutely CRAZY and then at soft moments like simple singing to singe guitar strokes the live dynamic background will stay calm while at the same time stay in tuned with the music.Thats all.
Yes, well, how about addressing the state of the PSN store? I have owned a PS4 for two weeks, and I would say I have access to the store less than 50% of the time. I pay for this service, but I have yet to see any messages, acknowledgements by Sony that this is an ongoing, unresolved problem. The PS4 is an amazing machine, but I am disappointed and frustrated by the lack of accountability in this area.
What is the app would have the psn store in the app that would be amazing . And also a better iPad experience.

Ok guys..so we were given this blog to comment on the new release of the version 2.0, and we all gave our hearts desire what needed to be added and what is missing and also highlighting problem areas. Next week seems to be the date of release (28 October) but absolutely nothing has been amended in the list of given specs Sony has already gave us, even tho the words were, “we are listening” Myself cant wait for the release and what is probably the best thing is the share play feature, but its really sad that we as community was asked to give input, where only the first page was looked at and the rest was totally ignored. Why ask input, or what are your thoughts, and how can we make it better, but no one is listening or even reading this. The side column says..in blue..”don’t be a jerk” BUT at this very moment i feel like you guys (Sony) are being the jerk here not to follow and respond or even also just jump in and say, this will be in the next update, we hear you, or this cant be done at the moment ect ect.
I am new to the PS4 and am loving everything you guys are doing with it, but, one big thing I would love to see is the ability to buy ps one classics. I am a major Final Fantasy VII fan and would love nothing more then to download it to my PS4 and step back into my childhood every now and again. Thank you in advance and I look forward to future updates and more ways to enjoy my new system.

The next system update for PlayStation 4, v2.00, will be released next Tuesday, October 28, Sony announced.
I am still a bit disappointed that, a year in, we do not have better support for Bluetooth headsets. Surely, I cannot be the only one that prefers a mobile phone-style in-ear headset, like the Official Playstation 3 headset? My setup already includes a high-end surround sound system, and I just shouldn’t have to forgo that to use a stereo headset, or use a lower-quality wired mono earpiece.

ADD FOLDERS or stop updating the system IMHO. I HATE using my PS4. The side scrolling user interface is astonishingly bad; if you were competing against any company but Microsoft, who are even worse at interface design than you are, this would actually be breaking sales.
I only fire up my PS4 to grab free PS+ content but I’m not buying any new titles for it until it doesn’t anger me every time I try to use it.
What’s up, Im very happy this update is so close to being released now but i have a question can i plug a tb external hard drive usb 3.0 into the ps4 and play my music off it? I have a huge library of music and i wanna be able to play all my songs.Another question is will we get usb video support?

The library is a hot mess and I would like to be able to prevent accidental deletion of files, games and data.
…and for some damn reason the destiny beta will not delete from my library. It’s been uninstalled, and is no longer available but the installation file will not go away.
