Driveclub Update
Update: We know many of you were looking forward to playing the promised PS Plus Edition and we are truly sorry for the delay. Our first priority is to provide you with the best possible experience while playing DRIVECLUB. With the high volume of new players and additional server load the PS Plus Edition is anticipated to bring, we are currently not confident that we can guarantee the best online experience. Until we can ensure that everyone can enjoy the full social connected online experience, we will be postponing the release of the PS Plus Edition until further notice.

Hi everyone. As many of you are already aware, the DRIVECLUB team has made the decision to postpone the release of the PlayStation Plus Edition due to multiplayer connectivity issues following the game’s launch yesterday in North America and today in much of Europe. See here for a full statement on the situation from Evolution Studios.

The team is working around the clock to rectify these problems, and we apologize both for the delay in delivering the PS Plus Edition and for any difficulty that you may have connecting to the game’s multiplayer servers.

For live updates on the situation direct from the studio, visit the team’s Facebook page and Twitter feed.

  • Why not release the offline portion of it? The reasoning here makes no sense, just like having no media ownership on PS4.

  • Screw this game now. I was going to play the PS+ edition now than buy the game later, but not only was the game delayed a year, which I was fine with actually, no one delivered, it was said to be given to PS Plus users (DAY 1!!). It makes it worse seeing the game didn’t even launch at all than you ignore everyone for a day. I hope this game fails and I don’t feel sorry if it does, you had a extra year to fix a multiplayer oriented game and didn’t think about servers? Even more, you choose to delay the PS+ edition because of that? If it released than was pulled I would respect it, but it’s non-existent and ignored, so I won’t drop a penny for unacceptable disrespect. No one likes being ignored and it takes commitment to ignore so much people at once.

  • This looks like it was done on purpose, I know some gamers that were eager to play the + version of the game are just gonna buy it

  • Im hating you sony, more every day. Almost 1 year and you give me nothing except this indie ****.

  • In the future, when you make a promise like this Sony, perhaps you should use your eager and willing PS+ members to…Oh I dunno…TEST the servers?

  • Look the twitter from DriveClub

“@_eltoNn Pre-orders aren’t pushed back, so you will be able to play offline and online (if you can get a free space on the server)”

LOL! if you can get space on the server.

Buy a new Mac or they might be using 28.8 kbps modem.

  • If the game wasn’t ready they should have delayed it yet again. There really is no excuse in my eyes to do this to the customers, playstation plus members or otherwise. Had they been forthcoming with their issues and notified Sony that they were not ready we could have avoided this PR mess and could have offered up another indie title this month for Plus members while they get their servers ready. I fear they just rushed the product feeling pressure on many fronts, and because of it we all suffer.

  • Hi Sid, I appriciate you keeping us briefed on the developers efforts to a smooth driving experience. I understand many are outraged over this delay and I would like to praise you for having tough skin being the messenger even though some might throw some heat towards you. Just wanted you to know some understand from your perspective.

  • How was notification necessary? Actually, how did this get through cert?

  • they said when ps4 launches ps+ members will have immediate free access to Driveclub they you pull a bait and switch proof https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DmoZAPDV3ew&feature=youtu.be&t=2h1m45s sony believe laws do not apply to them and they can commit fraud and say sorry and think it’s ok well that is BS

  • Stop lying to us. Everything about this game has been a lie from it’s announcement at E3. No “minus a few cars and tracks”, no “small upgrade fee”, no Day 1 launch with PS4 consoles to push sales, no cushion for the blow of PS Plus becoming mandatory for online play

Just stop. If you want to recover any of the “gamer goodwill” you got after the whole Microsoft always on and DRM on retail discs fiasco, then you just need to stop. That’s all. Just stop. You’re pissing off too many of your long time paying customers. I don’t even like racing games, but I absolutely hate being lied to

  • Rented it yesterday and already returned it. Incredibly stupid AI causes AI opponents to slam into you as if you’re not even there, then you get penalized and the AI opponent doesn’t. Single player game becomes unplayable after the first couple of levels because of this. Maybe online play will be better if they ever get the servers fixed.

  • Can we get a refund for us that were tricked into buying the full version? The very point of this game was to have multiplayer support, you can’t even unlock a majority of the content without creating a club online. It is basically a broken game you sold.

I don’t think I’d be nearly as upset if we can just get a refund and be done with this bomb of a game. Plenty of other options exist for racing games.

  • Well can only hope the server is up by this weekend cause people be so pissed not being able play during the weekend

  • @therealdanhill (posts 95-97) from the Evolution Studios team.

I appreciated your feedback until the end of post #97 where you called us all SCUMBAGS

It would also have been nice if you answered the many questions why the +Edition can’t be released with offline only.

Something like what (TwinDad) post #89 said would have gone a long way if truthful.

“online code i so intermingled…would have to re-test and certify the game again”

  • Here’s the bottom line: If there were such a problem with the servers, Evolution Studios would PULL THE GAME FROM PSN. Why would they allow a non-working product to be sold? Do people deserve to have their hard-earned money go towards a non-working product? There isn’t even any indication on the PSN store that there is a problem. Yes, that is a scumbag move, period.

Instead, Evolution leaves the game up for purchase, hoping that uninformed customers, and even those who now think there is no free version coming, will buy the game. Do you really think that is ok?

  • Also, there has been a HUGE lack of communication to people who have bought the game and people still waiting on the free version, both from Evo and Sony. This is inexcusable. I sat at my computer last night, watching the official Facebook page of Evo Studios ignore any and all questions regarding the delay. The same thing happened on the Twitter account. We were told it would be up later that night, we were told there would be an update in an hour, none of that came to fruition. And now, they are deleting comments critical of their practices from their Facebook page.

Yeah , i dont consider wanting something , that was supposed to be out a year ago, and lets not forget , the ONLY reason sony offered a brand new game at the time it did , was really to try to take the sting out of the news at E3 just before it, that we would have to now PAY TO PLAY ONLINE! Thats the real reason they offered us a , what is now apparent large demo , of a brand new game for free. Think about it , How many other free new games have they gave out? 0 , matter of fact all the free games so far have been nothing but indies. Indies alot of us dont care about playing, thus ive gotten 0 free games ive cared to play for a year now. They havent offered any decent games on ps plus for ps4 , but they offered this one for free, ever asked yourself why that was? It was to take away the sting of being told we now had to pay to play online. Yet , now a year later, this game still cant handle any load at all and we are still getting stiffed. Bad enough its just a demo we are gettting. Entitled ? i think not, more like owed!

  • Keep crumby driveclub. I just don’t want to be charged to play!

  • @therealdanhill I am so sorry, I missed the top of post #95.
You were just passing on news from Evolution Studios team and not part of the team.

I got your Scumbag comment out of context.

Now that I got the right context I agree.

  • February 2013: announcement DRIVECLUB
May 2013: announcement Forza Motorsport 5
November: Release Forza Motorsport 5 (Metacritic 79)
June 2014: announcement Forza Horizon 2
September 2014: Release Forza Horizon 2 (Metacritic 86)
October 2014: Release DRIVECLUB (FORZA KILLER Metacritic 73)

    DRIVECLUB PS+ Delayed
    PSN FLOP

waited for the greatness but the greatness never came

  • Seems like such a huge misstep by Sony when Driveclub was one of their tent pole release games. To have it fall so far on the calendar and then seriously ruin the release (focusing mainly on the PS+ version since that was the original announcement) is disappointing. In the society we live in where communication is easy, why does it take the official blog so long to respond?

  • Sony forgot their own slogan from when I was a kid “Sony, no bologna”. Since the release of the ps4 I feel like it’s nothing but cheap lunch meat from Sony. They ought to open a deli.

  • I wanna return this game to you idiots can I have my 60 bucks back I’m already about done with the tour me nor my friends can even do what we bought the Damn game for and that’s play in a club hints the selling point of the game

  • @JustLu DeliClub?

  • Well for my part, all I wanted was an update on the issue. A quicker reply would have been nice but, I can understand the delay. I can’t wait to try your game. Do your best to fix the issue and good luck to you guys!

  • Who cares about the people that want the free version. I have played for well over 15 hours already enjoyed every moment of it. My wife and I can spend 60 bucks going out to eat or going to see a movie. What I am saying is that if you can get more than 5 hours of entertainment for 60 bucks they have made a successful game. It’s a bonus that you get to keep enjoying it longer. And even more of a bonus that you can trade it in for at least half of that within the first 30 days. Oh well carry on.

On another note I would like to thank the people who brought me such a wonderful game. I will be getting enjoyment for months with this game. All I need now is a Camaro SS 2015.

  • I just want to get the preorder dlc and have the game unlocked rather than spending 50 bucks preording and sitting with a ps+ edition. Can we please get an update on the issue where some psn preorders became ps+ demo even though I paid 49.99 to preorder back in September….

  • Please add a feature to import mp3. Please get the servers running to play on the weekend.

  • I’m sorry to say, but there is no excuse for this. As a client I cannot accept that given a year delay you could not have all aspects of this game ready in time for launch. As I have read in the press, this game was ready for the console at launch last year. Either your team in extremely incompetent, or you’re lying. Both of which are extremely disappointing. Fix this and make it right soon or I will be spending my money on a competing platform. This is not “sour grapes,” but a matter of principle which I pride myself upon. You said this game would be ready a year ago, it was not. Now it is being delayed further and there should be no excuse for this.

  • + meltedwolf

it’s not necessarily about being “entitled”, which, grammatically, you’re actually using wrong….

“entitled” would actually imply, or assert that the people you speak of are actually entitled to something, as in, they are owed…which they are not. they are simply whiners who BELIEVE they are owed something.

now then, i’m not one of those people. i’m annoyed by the delay, but honestly, i’ve nearly lost all interest in this title. i’m not excited about it, like i used to be.

it was supposed to be a launch title, then they delayed it…their reasoning: “we want to take a little extra time to make sure that when it comes out, it’s the game we promised you”…the real reason for the delay “the game was rubbish, and needed to be rebuilt”……so feigning concern for the customer experience, in order to cover their own asses; strike one

  • + meltedwolf

    (continued from last)

move ahead to launch day…..reviews say the game is lacking, severely, they describe the experience as “mediocre”, and as not living up to the hype, or promise. sales numbers don’t look so hot, and their servers took a big steaming dump, because they didn’t do adequate stress testing, before the launch…….as a result, now people who paid for the game are being inconvenienced, the potential buyers (PS+ members) now have to way who knows how long to try the game out, so they’re potentially pissing away customers, all because they couldn’t be bothered to properly test this stuff before going live…..

so yeah, crappy reviews, crappy servers, and more delays….that’s strike two…

  • + meltedwolf

    (continued from last)

strike three? still waiting on that one…once they finally get their act together, and get the PS+ edition up on the market, i’ll still give the game a try…..i at least owe it to them, and to myself, to see if the reviewers are full of crap…i’m honestly not expecting to be wowed….

so yeah, not all of us are obnoxious, stuck up brats, with delusions of entitlement, who are pissed off because we hafta wait for our “free game” (nothing’s actually “free”. the IGC is more like a long term rental agreement). some of us are pissed for other reasons..

  • @4: You act like 60 dollars a year is a lot, bro lol

  • of course it got delayed, be grateful that you’re getting a ps plus edition in the first place.

    sarcasm

  • If your servers can’t take a little more traffic load coming from legit PS Plus copies of your own game, how are you going withstand DDOS attacks from actual hackers? Can’t you just let Plus members download, install and play the game in single player, and just block/discard any incoming traffic from the Plus Edition (erm, you CAN detect the different version sources, can’t you?)? Are we going to experience server outages every time there is a little increase in traffic activities, due to people actually playing your game or due to DDOS? How do you expect us to have any confidence in you?

  • 1st time ever heard this “A demo requiring online connecton” why can’t it just be offline

  • To those who are expecting the PS Plus Edition to be 1/5 of the full game, I am sorry, it’s not even that.

On the Tour mode (ie. career mode) menu, you see a set of 10 events. Out of those, only 3 are available (a race, a championship with 2 rounds, a time trial). When you play an event, there are side objectives to complete (come in top 3, reach certain speed, reach certain lap time…). Completing each objective earns you 1 star. To unlock the next set of events, you need 14 stars. The 3 events available to you gets at most 12 stars.

In other words, those 3 events are all you get in the PS Plus Edition, just like any racing game demo that lets you sample a few event types. I counted 42 more events blocked by that 14-stars lock.

    It’s not 1/5 (20%) of the game you get, it’s only 3/52 (5.77%). Or 12 stars out of 255 total stars, ie. 12/255 (4.7%).

Yes, there are trophies, but you will have to keep grinding and grinding in those 3 events over and over and over to earn them.

(I have the PS Plus Edition from Asia PS+, before it was taken down.)

  • Can i please get a release date for the 2.0 update i’ve asked everywhere and i would shed a tear of happiness if i can get 1 person to tell me a date i get that sh*t happens but still idk i just hope its soon

  • The main incentive here is money. Not even a hint of a free version of Driveclub is on the store. It’s obvious Sony.

  • Kind of sucks for those of us who would be perfectly happy just playing offline. Those server issues wouldn’t affect us whatsoever.

  • Completely ridiculous. After a year of delays because they did not want to release a game that was flawed, it released and the multiplayer if broke. Not to mention the primary focus of the game is on the multiplayer social team experience. I feel like I wasted $50 and it is pretty sad that sony with all their money dropped the ball so badly on this one.

  • This is not an update.
Thanks for the BS once again Sony.

  • I regret even buying the PS4.

** ****** Ps4 Plus Games since day one
** was looking forward to driveclub and here it is
** Sony used to better but by judging its attitude , they are not going to change

should we move to XboxOne ?
Anyone ? else feeling like me

  • Well hopefully we will get another game until this is ready to go.

  • I expect from you a great reward for all players because of these complications. This is not great advertisment for you and therefore you should give a big gift for all PlayStation players.

    Yours sincerely,
    Martin from Czech Republik

  • As someone who has had this game pre ordered and paid for well in advance I feel they are doing the right thing by ensuring the online play is fixed for those of us who has paid vs. those who are wanting a handout.

  • no updates for the PS + version of DriveClub yet?

  • thanks for update. better late than never.

on a sidenote the PS Plus section of the store just isn’t well organized. I found myself having to search for a page to download dust on my PS4 because the link under PS Plus sent me to a page to sign up for PS Plus…even though I already HAVE PS Plus. I think playing around with the menus and links before publicly releasing the updates in the future would help avoid some of the frustrating confusion that just isn’t user friendly.

Thank you guys for a great service and for doing an amazing job. I love my PS4 and look forward to all that is to come. Let’s strive for excellence in the meantime with the little usability details. Thanks!

  • @TheRev6661

You are so wrong. The service should be exactly the same for all. If you go to McDonalds and they give you a free Burger, then it should be fixed with rotten meat?

Im glad im not getting this game not even if the full version were free.

By the way… You should be known as the Platinum guy. Just 1
