Hi everyone! Last month, we announced that Themes are coming to PS Vita and PS4. If you’re a PS Vita owner, the wait is almost over! Later tonight, PS Vita system software update v3.30 will be available to download, enabling you to personalize your PS Vita’s Start and Home screens, system application icons, and the system’s background music.
Starting tomorrow, non-game Themes including Crystal, Four Seasons, and Stitching will be available to purchase and download from PlayStation Store on PS Vita. Themes from fan-favorite PlayStation Vita games, like Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Tearaway, and Freedom Wars are all coming soon. You’ll be able to manage downloaded themes through the PS Vita system’s Settings app. Check out these bad boys in action:
Update v3.30 also allows you to see Trophy rarity when viewing Trophies on your PS Vita so you can know just how kickbutt your gaming skillz are!
If you’re a fan of setting up events with your friends via the Calendar app on PS Vita, you can now send event files from your Calendar to your friends using Messages or Email so they can easily add them to their own Calendar. This update will also allow you to add players not in your Friends list to your events.

Are the Vita themes just static backgrounds, or will there be dynamic ones with animations?
I hope the firmware update brings some much-needed updated to the Vita’s web browser. It’s gotten to the point where I can’t look at trophy guides on playstationtrophies.org :(
I’m psyched for Lemmings, Costume Quest, PixelJunk Monsters, and other themes. I’ve already updated my backgrounds on a few pages of my Vita to be screenshots, but it will be nice to hear different sounds and music as well.
A neat idea would be for the lock screen to show the last 9-12 trophies acquired :)
Oh thats very nice,well done Sony…is there an option to keep the image of the opening screen while setting up a theme?…kinda like a wallpaper on PS3….don’t wanna take off my Tess picture from my opening screen.
PS:I’m waiting that Tearaway theme.
MEanwhile the ps4 cannot even pause downloads, still no you tube, no friend notifications, cannot play MP3’s, no DLNA, no folders or organization…..sony’s firmware team is asleep.
I’d love a Persona 4 Golden theme or a Sorcery Saga Curse Of The Great Curry God theme. :D

patience. ;) youtube will be here in no time. think of it this way: FTP games, many apps (including share play & youtube), etc all together given out in mass.

I have a Vita, I guess I’ll need to turn it on for the first time in a couple of months.
Does this also fix the horrible image to background downsampling? Literally any picture that looks awesome in gallery, will look horribly distorted due to heavy fragmentation like you save a .jpg file with worst quality possible as setting.
Please tell me there will be a Soul Sacrifice Delta theme. Why? PS Librom.

@100 No, the majority of the games I listed don’t stay Japan-only. Dragon Quest is the only one where that can be said. I follow the import scene closely and the series I mentioned are either barely on Vita (ports) or not there at all.

when the vita came out i started a thread on the old forums for users to request themes for me and others to make for them, i am wondering will we ever be able to have our content put up for users to have?
@65 – Sony tried and gave it a good go with vita, look at all the 1st party exclusives they released. All these ppl r screaming for gravity rush2 & a gravity rush theme, but nobody really bought gravity rush (400k sold) & considering it was a great game from japan studios 400k just isnt good enough. Tearaway was dev’d by mm, won awards, was marketed & still didnt sell for that matter look at kz Mercenary.. awesome game with console quality visuals from guerrilla cambridge but it didnt sell. Ppl cry 4 AAA 1st party vita exclusives, but then they dont buy them? Bend is a talented team that wanted it’s chance to make a big console game (think Ready at Dawn) so that’s y they arent making GA2. Perception becomes reality & when ppl like u who have been saying for 2yrs that the vita is dead, it doesnt help push the hardware. Destiny is the best selling game ever bc of perception, it’s only a 77 on Metacritic – Metro Redux is a 85 & Wolfenstein an 80 on Metacritic, but those games didnt sell. If Sony was abandoning vita than y bother to bring FreedomWars to NA or port the TellTale games.
While I generally use photos as my Vita wallpapers, It’s nice to finally have “official” themes to choose from. Can’t wait to change the background music too lol!
@120 You know what would’ve helped those games? Some advertising. Every game you mentioned was released without a push in North America. No ads or even bundles. You say Tearaway was marketed? Not in North America. 400k for Gravity Rush is great given Sony gave the game away as a PS+ freebie for over a year only six months after it came out.
You even admit that Sony is done with Vita’s first party. How is it not dead? It looks like Freedom Wars was localized for Hong Kong and is only getting a release in NA/EU as a “bonus.” There’s no English dub or demo.
No one cares about Telltale’s stuff. Their ports always run poorly and are late. They announced The Wolf Among Us on Vita nearly a year ago now. It’s still not out.
It’s a laugh that you’re trying to blame me for Vita’s failure. I’m not the one that controls the platform. I’m the one who bought it on day 1 and expected a followup to PSP. Instead, Sony has handed me PSP Minis 2.0 with Japan’s B-list. They think we’ll be okay with Remote Play (like I’m buying a PS4 after they’ve treated Vita like trash) and PS Now. That’s not for me.
It’s Sony’s job to change the perception with Vita. They haven’t because they don’t care.
Any hint on what the price will be for these themes?

I hope this update fixes the issue where the icons get all switched around when you swap memory cards. They never really did anything about that.
@ 111 – So u havent turned your vita on in months? Tell me y again? My Vita(s) never goes off. U dont use remote play? U have no interest in the awesome free + games we get on vita every month (velocity2x)? U had no interest in the recent excellent ports of Sly Cooper, GoW, & Ratchet? U cleared out your backlog? U never use vita 2nd screen app for games like Wolfenstein ect? Near? U never want to play games & earn trophies on the go? U already platinumed Uncharted, Tearaway, kz Merc, Virtua tennis4, SoulSac/Delta, GravityRush, VelocityUltra/2x, AC Liberation, FF, Hotline, Guacamelee, ps all-stars, Dokuro, Dragons Crown, VirtuesLastReward, MGS collection, OlliOlli (100%), LBP vita, Sine Mora, Murasaki Baby, Rogue Legacy, Muramasa rebirth? All good games. Do u really own a vita and if so why? There is soo much to play & do on vita it’s crazy. U obviously dont get it, maybe ur too busy playing animal crossing or floppy birds idk.
Thanks for adding this customization! I’d love to have a Metal Gear Solid theme like I’ve had on my PS3 for literall years. I love my Vita, keep supporting it and keep the great games coming!
The UI definitely needs an overhaul, at least for the PlayStation TV. The current bubble thing is just not very intuitive for a controller.
Please do something about account management on the vita. Buying digital games is an extremely frustrating experience. Ideally it would work just like the ps4 does. Having to format every time I want to change accounts is very annoying and you are losing sales because of it.

i Know its nice and all for the vita users but you all said for ps4 the update would be SOON soon like a month ago and thats not soon really But if its not as soon as you say it is or sence you just made the wait worse for putting the vita first i think i would be asking for everyone when we would at least like to know when it is released ??????! or if its to be released or announced still tonight a lil ;) face would be a nice answer XD please haha

@ 122 – TellTale games ALWAYS run like garbage even on ps3 & i thought TWD was much more enjoyable on vita with touch.There r games coming to vita like Hotline 2, Forgotten Memories, Helldivers, Galak Z, Race the Sun, FreedomWars, TWD season2, Wolf among us, Tales from Borderlands, Lego: Beyond Gotham, Tales of Hearts, project diva 2nd, The binding of isaac, Reaper (f2p), AXIOM VERGE, OddWorld, ORESHIKA, all the Devolver games like Broforce, Toukiden: Kiwami, olliolli 2, FF ect. I dont understand ppl destroying the device they love by constantly putting out negative and damaging feedback for the impressionable world to see. Yes sir u had a hand in the Vita’s decline by perpetuating these untruths & negative vibes. I have issues with the current handling of the Vita as well but i have never & will never publicly bash the device in which i love. Do u really think it makes a non vita owner want to go out there & buy 1 when they see the ppl who own them acting like they hate it? I’d love an exclusive infamous game on vita (Electric Souls) but i still have so many other good games to play.

awesome! cant wait for the system update! i am a big fan and supporter of the playstation vita,honestly i use the system much more than my PS4 or my PS3,just the fact that i can carry a small portable system with me anywhere i go is amazing,and the fact that it has two analog sticks and the beautiful display and graphics makes it the best handheld in my personal opinion :)
I understand that you are upset about Sony’s handling of vita generic, but logging on here and then preaching to everyone that Sony did not care about the vita seems one sided to me and would not help your cause.
Furthermore, if you want Sony to listen to you why not tweet them about making games and supporting their system, it’s that easy!
Coming here just to make backlash about the vita, not so much. I do however agree with your statement, but we are getting games out of nowhere for vita from right out of the blue. We got Strider 2 coming next week for the vita, not to mention the Tales of Hearts R. Sure it is better than nothing right?

@142 – Sony is a multibillion dollar corporation. They can defend themselves and sell their own products without us doing that for free. As a consumer, it’s my right to issue feedback. If Sony wanted me to be all happy about Vita, they should give me a reason to be. I bought a Vita because I was a huge supporter of the PSP and expected Vita to be PSP2. When the device launched, I was smitten. Playing games on Vita just felt right. I wasn’t sold on its software library, but I believed Sony would do right by it. I don’t think they have and worse off, I don’t think they ever will.
@145 – Asking on Twitter doesn’t work, unless you’re an indie developer. I’ve tried Sony’s hashtag campaigns. I asked for Type-0, not that Agito nonsense or Tales of Hearts. During Building The List, I asked for Monster Hunter (lol), Metal Gear and more. Instead, I got Grim Fandango. I asked for a Gravity Rush sequel. I’m actually getting that! Well, not me personally, since it’s exclusive to a platform I don’t own …
